The Personified Vedas say in their prayers to the Lord that this is your greatest pastime, the way you extend yourself to the living beings in this world. And so the attitude and the order. If we pick up an order from the Lord and take it seriously and apply it, especially the order of how to assist him in saving conditioned souls, then Haridas Thakur said, we just want to alleviate your anxiety. And Prabhupada comments there that this is the best kind of service, is to alleviate the anxiety of the Lord. Some souls are lost here in the material energy, and we give them an opportunity to come out. And when we apply these two things, attitude, what's the first thing? Yeah, do anybody here have an attitude. Say, Yes, do your senses have an attitude? Mine do. I describe it as entitlement.I feel entitled to that. It's like no. I really think I should have that. And like no, we can't have it now, or ever. The second is order. If you just take these two principles, two ingredients, and you put them together, then you have a perfect life following the footsteps of Lord Nityananda. And magic happens wherever you go. You turn a boring drudgery of the material world into a festival wherever you go. And it's hilarious fun as Lord Nityananda, he's also funny, and his name Nityananda means he's always having fun. There's never a time when he doesn't have fun. And the only reason I don't have fun, at a certain point I get bored is because of two things, one is attitude and second one is order. And if I just come back to attitude and order, and I adjust them according to Lord Nityananda, then fun, fun, fun - Nitya, ananda! Nityananda is just fun from beginning to end. There's nothing to impede our fun. And the greatest fun of all is to go out as a representative, follow the order and in the attitude of Lord Nityananda, of bringing souls back to Krishna. And how much can you do that? Śamyāprāsa is smiling. How much can you do it Śamyāprāsa? Birds fly as high as they can in the sky. You can do it always. You can do it always and everywhere. That's why Lord Caitanya said 'yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa, āmāra ājñāya guru hañā tāra' ei deśa' (CC Madhya 7.128). That means world's open for business if you have the right attitude and you have the order, and if you follow the order. Drudgery, discipline, delight—what do these words signify in your spiritual journey? Join Tosha Williams in the Family Disciple Me podcast as we explore Isaiah chapter 12:3 and unpack how the act of seeking God, akin to drawing water from a deep well, requires commitment but promises profound spiritual renewal. Listen in as Tosha shares personal insights from life on her family farm, illustrating how intentionality in our relationship with the Lord can lead to spiritually fulfilling lives. In this episode, we delve into the heart of our "Seek Him Speak Him" motto. We reflect on the journey from obligation to joy, exploring how daily encounters with God's Word can refresh and nourish our spirits. Whether you're a seasoned believer or new to faith, tune in for encouragement, challenge, and blessing as you deepen your walk with the Lord, drawing from the springs of salvation with joy.****************I WILL'S TO INSTILL // Convo #3: I Will Seek Him“You will joyfully draw water from the springs of salvation.'” Isaiah 12:3 CSBSEEK HIM: Devotion is Meeting with God in Our Own Lives! With the Family Disciple Me ministry, our motto is “Seek Him Speak Him.” Let's spend some time with the Lord in Isaiah 12:3 about what it means to “Seek Him.” WHAT: What is God saying through this Scripture? To draw water is to bring it up from the depths bucket by bucket. In the same way, Scripture by Scripture, truth by truth, principle by principle, day by day, God wants us to go to His wellsprings of life and seek Him. ~ Have you received God's salvation; when, why, how? Look up “how to get water from a well with a bucket” and think about the intentionality it takes to get water this way. How does this help you better understand what it means to “Seek Him.”WHY: Why does this Scripture matter? To draw water requires effort, intentionality, work and determination. In ancient times, this was essential to physical life, something to be done every single day. ~ How often do you make the effort to spend time with the Lord each day? If joy is the measure of how much you “Seek Him,” how joyful are you? HOW: How does God want us to respond to this truth? The springs of salvation are available to all of us; the question is what we choose to do with this resource. We draw water when we daily decide to seek the Lord in our lives. ~ What is God saying to you personally about seeking Him? In what ways are you determined to “Seek Him”? Read Psalm 36:5-9 and listen to what God says to you through it. SPEAK HIM: Discipleship is Making God Known to Others! As we are filled with the life-giving, soul-nourishing water from God's springs of salvation, will you stay quiet or let your bucket-full overflow into someone else's life? ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. The clock was flashing 6:15. Odette snuggled up to me, making cute, happy cat-like noises. Timothy's bed was bigger than mine so I had to reach out to get my mobile device. For the tenth time, I silently thanked Timothy for switching bedrooms with me, though I believed he had chosen to sleep on the sofa instead."Hello," I said quietly."It's Buffy. I'll be there in fifteen minutes," she stated firmly."I have a companion over," I hesitated. "Can you make it twenty-five?""Who is that, Cáel Nyilas," Odette yawned. She liked the way my full name rolled of her tongue."Who is that?" Buffy grilled me."She's a sweet young lady I met; the rest is none of your business," I told Buffy. To Odette, "It is one of my many bosses. After my 'auto accident' (I couldn't tell a stranger that some psycho bitch; who I had just screwed; had her mentor kick the shit out of me), she brought me home then deposited me at your workplace. My bike is still at work." I had told Odette I was a cyclist."Does she think you are sexy?" Odette giggled. I groaned."81 days, Cáel," Buffy reminded me. "81 days," then she hung up. I wasn't getting my extra ten minutes."Do we have time?" Odette wiggled her whole body against mine."I don't think so. Babe," I sighed. "All I can do is go down on you then I have to grab a shower and get dressed." Odette blinked, blinked again, then brightened up incredibly."If that's all we can do," she exhibited no regrets as she hurled the covers back. It took me seven minutes to bring her to.I was good, but I had also torn up Odette pretty badly last night. I had to buy Timothy some more condoms. I felt kinda bad for using the number I did. I raced to the shower, did a Wonder Woman (hold your arms out and spin around a few times in the shower), raced back to Timothy's room; Timothy shot me with his Nerf gun from the sofa (Odette was vocal); and began dressing."Odette, stay and get some sleep," I stroked her cheek. "Timothy heads to work around ten, so if you could head out with him so he can lock up the place. Fix whatever breakfast you like. If it is Timothy, I'll make it up to him.""You mean beyond letting us use his room?" she fixed me with her feline eyes. I coughed."Come on, Cáel Nyilas, this room is plastered with male Calvin Klein models and you have five copies of the Village Voice on your dresser. You are far too proficient with punching all my buttons to be gay," she pointed out."Gay men can be very sexually proficient," I countered."Cáel Nyilas (damn, she loved my name), you came five times. I lost track of how many orgasms I had. If you are gay, you aren't in De-Nile, you are in Ethiopia," she giggled. This wasn't the right moment to brag that I ejaculated eight times last night. Rhada filled up three condoms during our little escapade. I repeat, I have an out of control libido."Gotta go," I straddled Odette and gave her a kiss. I deftly avoided the French grapple because I had the feeling that Buffy wasn't the kind to wait patiently."Timothy;” I mumbled as I sped to the door."I know; girl; bed; sleeping," he groaned. As the door shut I heard him add, "at least he's not dull."I managed not to kill myself tumbling down the stairs in my haste to reach the street. Buffy was waiting and drumming her hands on the steering wheel. I tried the car door; it was locked. A tap on the window earned me a baleful glare. I sighed and fell on my knees."Please," I begged. "Please, please, please let me in the car." I heard a click after ten seconds."You're late," she remarked as we sped away. I hastily put on my seat belt."I apologize," I tried being obsequious."You had better be, damn it," she seethed. Oh; I scented arousal; and jealousy. We drove a few blocks in silence. "Who was it?""Are we on the clock?" I countered. Pause."No," she said in a clipped tone."None of your fucking business, then," I growled. "My sex life is none of your concern, Buffy. It is none of your group's concern, so give it a rest.""Or what?" Buffy's eyes narrowed. I wished she would watch the road."Thunderdome, Bitch!" I grinned. Oh, she tried. She tried really hard to stay angry with me."I hate you," she snickered. She pulled out her phone and handed it to me. It was a picture of Buffy, Katrina, Tessa, Desiree and some woman who looked familiar standing, or kneeling, behind a pile of dead animals. All the ladies had bows, knives and camo gear."Does the Audubon Society know about this? I'm pretty sure the World Wildlife Fund would have a freaking stroke," I nodded."Ladies at Havenstone have a passion for killing things," Buffy measured me. "I thought you might want to know.""Why do you use bows?" I questioned. "Don't your boobs get in the way?" Buffy smacked me in the chest; hard. I could have blocked. That would have been counterproductive. No, I grabbed her right boob and gave it a strong squeeze. In retaliation, she hit me again. I grabbed her boob. This went on until we entered the garage. She got in the last hit."We are on the clock now," I notified her. She seemed less than pleased. "Very nice, by the way.""Huh?" Buffy studied."Sorry. Any continuation of this conversation would constitute sexual harassment," I sighed."I am mentally projecting negative emotions your way," Buffy grumbled."I believe the totality of your efforts create a positive outlook for me," I grinned."Have you ever been skydiving?" Buffy dropped out of the blue on me in the elevator ride up."With, or without, a parachute?" I inquired. She blessed me with a feral smile.I hurried to Katrina's office, Buffy a step behind me, rumbling like the jaguar she'd performed illegal dentistry on. She wasn't trying to intimidate me. Buffy was trying to mark her territory. I made it to my desk without actually being scent-marked, so I considered the encounter a draw."Have fun last night?" Katrina inquired without looking up."More than any one man should have," I confessed. Further conversation was severed by the arrival of the first of the female 'new hires'. As Katrina started our little meeting, I surreptitiously put in the work order for my suits. I wasn't sneaky enough for Katrina."Are you suffering some sort of head trauma that makes you believe you can avoid participation in this meeting?" she purred."No, Ma; Katrina," I was contrite. "I had to submit a work order for the business suits Buffy and Helena purchased for me last night so I would stop coming to work dressed like a homeless panhandler." That killed four of the girls; they failed to stifle their giggles."Couldn't you have dealt with that on the way in?" Katrina had this glitter in her eyes."Buffy was attempting to subject me to vehicular homicide," I replied. "I was afraid for my life on multiple occasions, up to and including her entry into the garage.""How horrifying for you," Katrina delivered deadpan."I had my hands full, I swear," I placed my hand over my heart."I suspect that was the case," Katrina allowed. "Is there anything else you need to take care of while the rest of us wait on you?""Thank you, yes there is," I smiled, nodded and began typing away."I was being facetious, but then you knew that," Katrina teased. Several girls were openly giggling now. When I finished, I walked around Katrina's desk, went to one knee and lowered my head. Katrina scanned my latest request."Really?" she was intrigued."Yes, Ma'am," I looked up at her. She ran her hands through my hair. "Katrina.""You are trying," Katrina remarked. That could read either way. "Go back to your station before I show you where you really belong," she chuckled. I stood up and fist-pumped."Woo-who!" I shouted. "I'm going to bed." That finished them off. Even Fabiola cracked a tiny bit and snickered behind her hand. The real joke they were embracing; making me part of their new breeding program; was the punchline to the joke Katrina and I found amusing. I knew the truth. We received our assignments and left the office."How did your date with Rhada go last night?" Paula nudged me."It wasn't a date. It was a corporate appointment," I corrected. "As for the rest; you don't want to know. Please believe me, you don't want to know.""I can make you tell us," Fabiola smirked. The group kept together until I reached Desiree's desk. She was my boss for the day and she was not pleased, or amused.Fabiola saved me."Sister, compel this one to tell us what happened with Rhada last night," Fabiola sneered in Hittite. I played dumb which wasn't hard in my fatigued state. Desiree transferred all of her dislike of me into outrage at Fabiola's breach."Is your blood poisoned?" Desiree seethed. "When they tossed you off the rocks, did you bounce back up, or are you so arrogantly stupid you would flaunt one of our most basic safeguards?""You are only half the woman you could have been," Fabiola shot back.By the way Desiree flew out of her chair that was a deadly insult. I put my body between them and grabbed Desiree by her upper arms."Release me," she yelled, her hate returned its focus to me."You are my boss," I explained calmly. "I most join you in your battles. Is this a battle you truly want to fight, here and now?""Release me at once," Desiree commanded."One of us hiding behind a man," Fabiola mocked Desiree. Daphne punched her. "Ow!""Care to try that on me?" Daphne challenged Fabiola. "My family's prestige has never been called into question." I was starting to think they meant genetic purity."Buffy would not want me to let you come to harm," I whispered to Desiree then released her. It was that hunting photo that made me make that leap. Desiree glared at me. A slap followed, but it wasn't all that hard."Do not touch me without permission, Cáel Nyilas," she commanded in a clear voice.

On our final episode this season of Working Smarter we talk to Sophia Wang, an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Stanford University. Wang leads the school's ophthalmic informatics and artificial intelligence group, which uses the latest machine learning techniques to analyze electronic health records. In practice, that means looking at disparate sources of data—from doctors' notes and eye exam data to diagnostic imagery and billing codes—and finding the sorts of patterns that can be difficult for humans to spot.Hear Wang talk about using AI to extract useful information from a sea of unstructured data, and how to make better decisions with the data you already have—which, in Wang's case, means improving outcomes for glaucoma patients and providing a better quality of care.Show notes:Learn more about Sophia and her researchVisit Stanford University's Ophthalmic Informatics and Artificial Intelligence Group~ ~ ~Working Smarter is a new podcast from Dropbox about how AI is changing the way we work and get stuff done. You can listen to more episodes of Working Smarter on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, or wherever you get your podcasts. For our seventh episode of Working Smarter we're talking to Drew Houston, the co-founder and CEO of Dropbox. If you've been online long enough, it's likely Dropbox was your introduction to the cloud. The goal is still more or less the same—give you one organized place for all your stuff—but it's no longer just about storing and syncing files. A hundred files on your desktop is now a hundred tabs in your browser, and Houston believes AI is what will finally bring calm to the chaos that's been created by the tools of modern work. For Houston, AI's potential is so great that its arrival feels like a civilization shift. It's also not just a professional preoccupation; AI is a personal interest too. A few years ago he decided to teach himself machine learning in his spare time—and some of the AI tools Houston now uses to run Dropbox are ones he built himself. Hear Houston discuss why it's gotten so hard to find the information you need to do your job, the types of tasks we'll increasingly offload to our silicon brains, and what Dropbox is doing to help make modern work more meaningful and fulfilling.Show notes:To learn more about Dropbox Dash and try Dash for free, visit dropbox.com/dashThe two books Houston mentions are “High Output Management” by Andy Grove and “The Effective Executive” by Peter Drucker~ ~ ~Working Smarter is a new podcast from Dropbox about how AI is changing the way we work and get stuff done. You can listen to more episodes of Working Smarter on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, or wherever you get your podcasts. We frequently hurt our pursuit of purpose with two, polarized myths. One is that our purpose will be nothing but fun and play and passion. Or two, that our great purpose, our mission in life, will be great toil and sacrifice. After having over 250 of our world's most influential people on this show, I haven't found any who felt what they did was all play or all toil. And I haven't found this in my own journey through well over 20 different endeavors I've devoted myself to. In our previous episode I was with business architect and purpose expert Mike Zeller talking about our zone of genius, which is the title of his book, and my focus with Mike was on the topic of purpose. He helped us look at our purpose and genius as a zone and not one, specific thing. Now I want to help you with the perspective of what your purpose will likely feel like and take it out of the errant polarization it often falls into. Got a comment or question about an episode? At Cognizant—an IT services and consulting firm—Hodjat's team puts this work into practice by helping other companies integrate AI tools into their workflows.Hear Hodjat discuss why it's still so hard for machines to understand exactly what we want them to do, the problems he's helping his customers solve, and how the latest generation of workplace assistants can help us make better decisions and improve the way we do our jobs.Show notes:Learn more about Cognizant's Advanced AI LabLinks to Hodjat's researchThe Perceptive Assistant that Learns (PAL)The Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes (CALO)~ ~ ~Working Smarter is a new podcast from Dropbox about how AI is changing the way we work and get stuff done. You can listen to more episodes of Working Smarter on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, or wherever you get your podcasts. For our third episode of Working Smarter we're talking to May Habib, the co-founder and CEO of Writer, a generative AI platform for businesses. Writer helps streamline the writing parts of people's workflows, so they can get to the “thinking part” of their jobs more quickly. For Habib, AI isn't just about automating mundane or repetitive tasks, but a way to amplify the talent and intelligence of a team. There are some types of writing, such as an RFP or a JIRA ticket, where it doesn't always make sense to start from scratch. By using AI to learn how a company works and the knowledge a person needs to do their job, Writer aims to make those kinds of writing-related tasks faster, easier, and more efficient. Hear Habib talk about how AI-powered tools like Writer can help increase the amount of time you spend in flow, supercharge your existing workflows, and create more space for insight, creativity, and inspiration in your job. “How do we adjust to the drudgery?” Martha was asked this question by Ro when they returned home from a wonderful stay at the Imiloa Institute in the Costa Rican jungle. A lot of upkeep is required to sustain ordinary living, and much of daily life gets consumed by repetitive tasks. In this episode of The Gathering Room, Martha talks about a shift we can make to transform drudgery into beauty. In traditions where they have the concept of awakening or enlightenment, Martha says, the emphasis is not on what you do, but how you do it. It's the quality of presence in your body, mind, heart, and spirit while you carry out each task. As the Zen saying goes, “Before enlightenment: Chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment: Chop wood, carry water.” When you are fully present and engaging with all of your senses, any experience can become sublime, even mundane tasks like washing the dishes. You can look at even the simplest object and say, “You are so beautiful.” To get more insights about transforming drudgery into a spiritual practice, tune in for the full episode, which also includes Martha's guided Silence, Stillness, and Space meditation. And if a retreat with Martha sounds like just the thing to help you return to your life with fresh eyes, read about her Pure.Wild.Self Retreat in Costa Rica at the link below!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For some people, coming off the busyness and the legitimate preoccupation of celebrating Christmas produces a kind of postpartum depression. After the decorations, presents, company, and feasting, it can be hard to go back to the daily grind. But the word of God has plenty to say about that. We, as believers, can and must go about our daily tasks, even the mundane ones, with a sense of purpose and even joy. Fasting is one tool available to assist us in pursuit of transforming drudgery into a satisfying and meaningful life. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Fr. Eric Nicolai preached this meditation on retreat at the Manoir de Beaujeu, west of Montreal, on December 28, 2023. Today the Holy Innocents. The priest's vestments are red, the color of martyrs, in memory of those Innocents who gave testimony to Christ, as the opening prayer says non loquendo sed moriendo, not by speaking but by dying, as first fruits for God and the Lamb. The children die without knowing what is happening; mothers see their innocent lives cut short without knowing why. There is no apparent explanation. The children's suffering at first glance seems useless and unjust. Their lives bear witness to a truth they aren't even aware of. But God rewards their total self-sacrifice with eternal glory, with the enjoyment and direct vision of God, And the little ones, wrenched from their mothers arms and made co-redeemers with Christ at such a young age, enjoy in heaven the fruitfulness of their sacrifice: These innocent children were slain for Christ. They follow the spotless Lamb, and proclaim for ever: Glory to you, Lord.sanctification Peter

In this enlightening podcast episode, we explore the concept of engaging in passion projects as a form of co-creation with a loving and supportive God. The discussion challenges the notion of a distant and aloof deity, inviting listeners to view God as an enthusiastic collaborator in their creative endeavors. Drawing upon relatable anecdotes and a touch of humor, the episode highlights the idea that God's approach to our passion projects mirrors a patient parent guiding a child through an exciting and messy baking session. Listeners are encouraged to approach God with their ideas and visions, regardless of their stage in life, feeling the assurance that God welcomes their involvement in the creative process. Listeners are reminded that God is not a rigid taskmaster waiting for our perfection, but a joyful partner willing to work through the messiness of our efforts. The episode emphasizes the importance of taking small, deliberate steps toward passion projects and learning to view everyday tasks through the lens of purpose and collaboration with God. Through an engaging narrative, the episode encourages listeners to release the limiting belief that their passion projects must be confined by current abilities or circumstances. Instead, they are invited to dream big and embark on creative ventures that hold the potential for miraculous outcomes, guided by the enthusiastic presence of a divine collaborator.

Drudgery is a test of life. When you continue day in and day out, doing the same things over and over, you can begin to question if what you do matters. If you're not following God's plan for your life, the enemy wouldn't bother trying to discourage you. God wants you to pass the test of the mundane. This message is a reminder that what you do, DOES matter.

Devin: What do you see as your superpower?Jeff: I will say something maybe a little bit contrarian, which is that I actually think that the nuts and bolts of stuff is what matters.Jeffrey Robbins, a partner at Saul Ewing and syndicated columnist, was part of the guest impact creators delegation visiting Israel last month. We both concluded that the best part of the trip was the diverse composition of the delegation itself. I invited each member of the 8-person delegation to be a guest on the show.AI Summary of the Podcast* Jeff Robbins is a lawyer and syndicated columnist who twice served as the United States delegate to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.* He admires Hillary Clinton's influence on human rights issues and challenges Trumpism in his writing.* He feels an obligation to write against Trumpism and states his appalled sentiment toward it.* Robbins has written for conservative newspapers like The Boston Herald.* Robbins believes in paying attention to detail and reading documents carefully, with no shortcuts or substitutes.* Robbins catches important evidence during litigation by paying attention to small details.* He encourages younger lawyers to embrace the “drudgery” of thinking about everything and taking responsibility for their cases.Earlier in his career, Jeff worked as a staffer in the U.S. Senate. That led to his developing a powerful network that yielded appointments from President Clinton for two years to serve as a delegate to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.Jeff shared the story of his experience as a delegate:The United Nations, the United States has a tradition of appointing four so-called public delegates from outside the Foreign Service, from outside the State Department, to attend the Human Rights Commission. The idea, I think, originated with Eleanor Roosevelt when the UN was founded. The idea was that there should be some expression of the American public at the council. So the White House appoints four or five people a year to go. I have to say it was moving. I mean, on one level, of course, the UN is full of bloviation and nonsense and almost Monty Python-like silliness in terms of the rhetoric and the meaningless folderol. There is all that. But there's also a tremendous amount of idealism. The council every year is attended by hundreds of activists and refugees and victims and advocates for victims. And as a delegate for the United States, the United States being the 800-pound gorilla, there is actually opportunity to speak out on their behalf and to lend support to their various causes. These are stories, some of them too long to tell today. But there were numerous times in those two six-week stints when I thought, “My God, how wonderful to represent the United States. With everything that we've got going that's problematic, what a wonderful thing. The United States is at its best as an advocate for people, for those whose human rights are not being respected. So, I came away with it all, very much moved by the opportunity to speak at the UN on behalf of the United States and, probably more substantively, to kind of advocate a bit for various human rights organizations and individuals around the world.Today, Jeff writes a syndicated column that originates in the conservative paper, the Boston Herald. He writes as the liberal contrarian speaking to conservatives who don't often agree with him.He shared his motivation with me:I'm so appalled by Donald Trump. I'm so appalled by Trumpism. I'm so appalled by all of the viciousness and the brutality and the swagger and the corruption and the anti-democratic instincts, to be quite blunt about it—my view of the last five years of that movement. Even though I know that there will be people, lots of people, in fact, most of the Herald's readers, who will be enraged by that, I feel an obligation to go right at that. So I think in some perverse way—perhaps I shouldn't admit this—I actually like going right at that stuff in a newspaper where I know the readers will just detest me and cast aspersions on my mother. In Jeff's career, he has developed a superpower: focusing on the small stuff. This has enabled him to be successful as a human rights delegate, a Senate staffer, a columnist and especially as a lawyer. How to Develop a Focus on the Small Stuff As a SuperpowerJeff explained the power of sweating the small stuff:You are somebody who has achieved an enormous amount by paying attention to detail, by sweating the small stuff. I know that it's popular to say, don't sweat the small stuff unless you're a genius. I am very, very far from that. There's nothing to be done but to sweat the small stuff. I sometimes think that there's a direct line between neurosis and excellence. Neurosis is no guarantee of excellence. God knows, as I think I demonstrate, on an hourly basis. But on the other hand, unless you're a genius, excellence comes does not come without the neurosis, without the blocking and the tackling and the reading of things and the paying attention to details. So I actually think that the boring stuff is what matters most. If you skip the quote-unquote, boring stuff, the chances of succeeding at whatever it is you're trying to do are much slimmer in the practice of law. For example, in a big firm where the cases are big, and there are a lot of documents, I always had to laugh because people would talk about, “Well, document review, let's just give the document review to some junior people or some paralegals just let them do it.”I'm like, “I don't know what you're talking about, man. It's the documents that are the evidence. The evidence is going to be in some footnote someplace. If you don't look at the damn documents, including the footnotes, you're not going to get the evidence. And you don't get the evidence. You don't win the case.” That, to me, is an example of how there are not, in my experience, any shortcuts. Unfortunately, it's the slog that makes the difference, if you see what I mean.Jeff shared a specific example of attention to detail helping him win a case:It happened to me, quite frankly. Last week, while I was examining a witness and I looked down at a document that I had worked on, and I saw for the first time there was an entry on a legal bill, which was a piece of evidence that showed something important. My split-second reaction was, “Goodness, this probably isn't the best time to have noticed this, but no one has noticed this before. And here we are, standing in court, and I've noticed it.” That happens to lawyers, I think, way more than they like to say. But the bottom line on all of it is, if you don't spend the time as a litigator looking at the evidence, scouring it, turning it around, reading it at different times during the course of a case, because, of course, things occur to you differently as a case progresses, you're going to miss that stuff. There's no shortcut for that. There's no way around that. There's no clever Perry Mason skill that can substitute anything or even close to substitute for sticking your face down in the paper and reading the damn stuff. When I asked for advice for developing the skill, Jeff responded, “there are some people who, for one reason or another, find that drudgery. Again, I don't know any alternative to embracing the drudgery.”If you follow Jeff's example and take his advice to “embrace the drudgery,” you can make it a superpower that enables you to do more good. My guest this week is Allie Casazza. In this episode, Allie and I discuss how to declutter our lives and environment so we can be happier and healthier. If you are listening to this episode as it airs, the start of the new year is the perfect time to cover this topic, as many of us are looking at our lives—homes, schedule, health, routines, etc. and saying, “Oh my goodness, I need to get things in order”, especially after the holiday hoopla. There is something about the blank slate of a new year that invites us to take a closer look at our environments and habits, and this can be a really good thing for us adults and for our kids. Research shows our physical environment plays a huge role in how we feel and function, and that includes how our kids feel and function too. Let's explore deeper to provide you with practical and doable tips to declutter, where to start, and how to navigate resistance and obstacles! Allie Casazza is on a mission to eradicate the hot mess mom stereotype by empowering other women. She's built a massive audience and a multimillion-dollar online business based on her proven family-oriented approach to minimalism. She's also the host of The Purpose Show, a chart-topping podcast, the creator of multiple online programs and courses, and bestselling author of Declutter Like a Mother and kid's book, Be the Boss of Your Stuff. Her platforms continue to grow every day, as more women discover her life changing approach to an abundant life. She lives in Southern California with her husband, where they homeschool their four young children.
