From the outside, Barbie seems to have it all: She's attractive, smart, rich, and made of plastic. We're extending our Hot Barbie Summer by looking back on this gem from season seven. When Barbie first became an astronaut in 1965, she was more than a decade ahead of NASA sending a woman to space. Since then, there have been several versions of astronaut Barbie — from a spangly 80s doll to one who had a jumpsuit just like the one they give you at Space Camp. Today, astronaut Barbie actually went to the International Space Station! And she's joined by a collection of dolls that represent actual people who really contributed to space science like Sally Ride and Katherine Johnson. We're talking about all those versions of Barbie today on AirSpace. (Follow along with pictures of all of these dolls on our Instagram.) Afterward, while processing some of the messages in the movie, they decided to make it a podcast episode! We're not here to tell you whether you should go see the Barbie movie or not. Our intent is to process some of the messages the movie had with what we know of God's Word. Though it was extreme satire and meant to be a comedy, a message is still a message. Barbie has smashed through the glass ceiling. Greta Gerwig's new movie based on the popular Mattel doll is the big summer film of 2023. It's made more than $1 billion –the first time that box office benchmark has been reached by a film directed by a woman. This popular success is all the more notable because the movie deals explicitly with feminist critiques of patriarchy. Barbie has generated an enormous public debate, but not everybody wholeheartedly loves the movie. I think the best piece of writing on the film was written by Tarpley Hitt for The Nation. Hitt, a writer and editor for The Drift who is working on a book about the Barbie doll, described the movie's feminism as “muddled.” I sat down and talked to Tarpley for an enlightening discussion about this year's buzziest blockbuster.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
We sit down with YouTuber and BET star, Lala Milan, formerly LalaSizaHands89, known for her role as a stripper and hustler on BET Network's "Boomerang” and infamous for her viral Vine videos. The boys debate the potential names for their podcast fans, and Lala suggests playfully calling them "Naked Hoes." The Boyz delve into Lala's life and love as she opens up about her British boyfriend, whom she met through bold DM-sliding and her non-belief in marriage, yet desire for a family. Is he her Boohoo Boo? The hit Netflix Documentary, Anna Nicole Smith: You Don't Know Me and SnowWhite90210 becomes the center of attention, leading to heartwarming discussions about how they named Dannielynn and they reminisce their special friendship with the Guess Jeans Icon and their book being turned into a movie. Is there a role in it for Lala? Lala calls out Patrik for using Ozempic to lose weight, believing it should be saved for "real" diabetics, only to discover his pre-diabetic status. Will the boys have a baby and will Lala donate her eggs for a biracial little Simpson-Atteu? A revealing moment emerges as Lala shares her journey from an insurance lady to becoming a popular content creator, solidifying her path in the entertainment industry. It's Runway Rundown critiquing the Good, the Bad and the Ugly! Lala gives insight about hosting the Grammys red carpet and learning of Kobe Bryant's death at that moment of her celebrity interviews. What does she think of Tetona Jackson's fashion? Were they friends on the show? We close out with a bad Barbie look and what it takes to stay in shape in Hollywood. This and That goes deep with La Perla lingerie, Costco, the boys stalking Rihanna in Bermuda, Rolls Royce colors, dick sizes, tax brackets, Netflix and Shondaland's Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton. Does Lala not know who Timothy Chalamet is? Why so many “White Person Questions”? and the boys are educated on “Black People” fads, hairstyles, trends and music. Laughs continue and she teaches them to drop, roll and twerk while they share her passion for todays' hip-hop. It's her first cup of Armenian Coffee and her grinds reading offers some interesting and intriguing insights into personal life and trust in others and the new Housewife of Beverly Hills.
