I have always been drawn to fables of underdogs and the unrecognized. This affinity was engendered early on in childhood, and marinated throughout 30 years in the acting trade, where I've seen many of the finest talents of my generation wither on the vine of show biz obscurity. This catchy girl-group number from the Cameo catalogue is spunkily delivered by a couple of black Philadelphia teens, whose exciting vocal energy belies some of the mysterious whispers of chicanery that surround the story of the record's creation, and, afterward, the group's precipitous disappearance. Ann and Lillian Storey of The Twinkles created this ode to black rock n roll culture in 1957, (immortalized in the film Hairspray) - when Ann, or Lillian, (I've seen both credited) submitted their song to a contest run by local DJ Kal Williams, who put his name on it as co-writer, and then took it to Baltimore musician and record label owner Al Browne, who also put his name on it. Browne released it on his indie label, Peak Records in 1957. The following year Cameo, who had national distribution, changed the group's name to The Storey Sisters and rereleased it nationally, where it went to #45 on the national charts. It was at this point that Ann, or Lillian's name disappear from the credits. In short order, The Storey sister's career was over, after having recorded only two more sides. Bad Motorcycle is said to be slang for “Bad Motherfucker”, and these young women may have encountered some bad motorcycles during their short ride out of fame's parking lot. VOOM VOOM VOOM!
Last time on Crown of the Kobold King, Scarab was able to convince Bloodeye, the leader of the Red Rocks, to not interfere with the coup against the Creeds. Our party then starts snooping around a tower on the edge of town, curious by rumors of ghosts. Monet turned into a cat and snuck in to find a friendly lonely girl. Monet was ushered out by the girl for fear that her father might find her. The closest the world came to world peace since Pokemon Go. Barbie (2023). We know Emily has no negative thoughts towards this film she saw 7 times in cinemas alone...but what did Stephen think...? ---
In today's Daily Fix: The ambitious space sim Star Citizen has been in development for more than a decade, and has allegedly cost over $700 million to make...but it's never been officially released. However, creator Chris Roberts posted on a blog that the upcoming Alpha 4.0 release has accelerated the development of new features and that a full 1.0 release "twinkles on the horizon." In other news, the Palworld devs have a problem: they're making too much money. The game cost less than $6 million to develop, but has already raked in at least ten times their production costs. Yeah, we're not jealous at all. And finally, Minecraft is getting a subscription service. Content from the Minecraft Marketplace will be curated by Microsoft and could be a decent deal for younger players who just want to check out a bunch of stuff and don't have a lot of coin to buy everything.
On our latest episode the absolutely wonderful Jessie Buckley joins us for lunch in the middle of promo for her new film Wicked Little Letters. Jessie zoomed round to mum's on the back of a motorbike & Mum rustled up a rare Table Manners plate of pasta with prawns & tomatoes. We heard all Jessie's fabulous stories about her colourful and loud household she grew up in, her wedding catering, drinking Twinkles with the stars at The Ivy at 18 years old old and she offers up a stellar last supper that includes oysters and giant chocolate buttons. The most brilliant actress and singer, we loved having the divine Jessie on. Jessie's brand new film Wicked Little Letters is released in cinemas on the 23rd February. Hosted on Acast. Last time on Crown of the Kobold King, our heroes spoke with the large wolfman living in mysterious ruins. He was not interested in conversation, and the group decided to stop pestering him before things got ugly. Upon further inspection, this creature was actually a Worg! As our heroes bumbled through the forest and contemplated on what to do next, they came across a campsite next to an abandoned creepy hut. Scarab discovered tracks of other Kobolds at the campsite, and there was evidence of a struggle. Before following the tracks the group decides to check the hut for leads. Turns out the hut used to be a witch hut, and it was still inhabited by an animated cauldron! After dispatching the angry cauldron, Joq finds a creepy shrunken head. Following the Kobold tracks, our heroes are able to take cover as a wyvern flies overhead. Our heroes then discover the oldest darkwood tree in the forest. As Joq samples some bark from the tree, he notices a few bodies hanging from the branches, and is then attacked by a large serpent! If you think about it we were never taught to breath, isn't that strange? We have been living out our whole lives without the basic instructions on how to breathe properly. Isn't that shocking? Most of us breathe like little chipmunks that are being chased by Mr. Twinkles the neighborhood cat. That type of breathing is fight or flight, or panic breathing. We are all running from Mr. Twinkles in our own way throughout the day.
