The writer Corey Atad joins me from Phuket, Thailand for a sequel to our Junk Filter episode about Bane that turned into a discussion about Tenet, and we return to the topic because of the recent cultural reconsideration of Christopher Nolan's 2020 time-bending thriller, which was released during the pandemic and has taken some time to find an audience.  Tenet got a one-week re-release in 70mm and IMAX 70mm in the leadup to this year's Academy Awards, and Corey and I discuss the film as Nolan's temporal pincer movement; it turns out he released the sequel to Oppenheimer 4 years ago, and we are only realizing it now. Unlike his latest, Tenet is about “the bomb that didn't go off”, and is a film that perhaps needs to be seen a few times to be best appreciated, especially after seeing Oppy. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes State Representative Martina White back onto the Dom Giordano Program for an update from Harrisburg after Shapiro signed the recently passed Pennsylvania budget into law. This comes with controversy, after Republicans offered concessions for the installation of a Lifeline Scholarship program in the state, bringing school choice to Pennsylvanians after Governor Shapiro ran in support of the program and the issue. Then, Shapiro pulled a bait-and-switch, noting before signing that he'd essentially chill that aspect of the budget through his political power. Martina explains where things currently stand, and tells whether she still believes we'll soon seen school choice in Pennsylvania. Then, Dom spends a chunk of the hour analyzing the national election, asking listeners whether they initially supported Trump and why they would vote for him even if in jail. This leads Dom and Dan into a conversation about Trump's popularity, with both giving their own reasons why Trump has been able to make such an impact on conservatives. Finally, Dom welcomes back in Neal Zoren to hear what's worth watching on television and in theaters this weekend. First, Dom suggests a show to Neal, telling why he's very much enjoying Netflix's How To Become a Cult Leader. Then, Neal offers up his suggestions for shows worth watching, suggesting The Days, which focuses on the Fukushima disaster, Good Omens, a comedy that follows the alliance of an angel and demon as they team up to stop an impending Armageddon, and The Horror of Dolores Roach, a show he says strikes a similar chord to very-popular Barry. Then, Dan suggests The Righteous Gemstones, asking if Neal's seen it, and makes a point that he hasn't seen many Evangelicals calling for a boycott of the show as other groups would if it offended their sensibilities. However, Science Friday has been talking to Dr. Fauci for decades, beginning in 1994, about topics ranging from HIV/AIDS to Ebola, interviewing him about everything from the Zika virus to advances in allergy research. Fauci has been in his current role at NIAID for 38 years, and has served as an advisor to seven presidents. He is the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He spoke with Ira about his career in medical research, the things he's most proud of achieving in his time with the NIH, and the challenges the nation still faces in dealing with the pandemic, and other disease outbreaks yet to come.   New Documentary Is Endearing Tribute To NASA's Rover Program In 2003, the world became captivated by two rovers launched by NASA on a mission to Mars, known as Spirit and Opportunity. The rovers were sent to the Red Planet to discover what was on the surface. The rovers were only expected to last 90 days. Instead, Opportunity led a 15-year life of discovery, including the bombshell that Mars may once have been suitable to sustain microbial life. The story of these twin rovers is the subject of a new documentary out this month: “Good Night Oppy,” evoking the nickname of the Opportunity rover. The film features footage taken over nearly two decades, from the building of the rovers to recent interviews with scientists involved in the mission. Ira speaks with “Good Night Oppy” director Ryan White, as well as featured scientist Doug Ellison, engineering camera payload uplink lead at NASA, based in Alhambra, California.   Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.

KPCC's John Horn, sat down with director Ryan White at the Telluride Film Festival, where ‘Good Night Oppy' premiered.
