It feels like a long time ago from when the Red Sox hyped up the Big 3 of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell and now to avoid anything like that the trade of Adley Rutschman was made.

Most of the response to the Adley Rutschman trade is discontent for the haul the Red Sox had to give up. Are fans too focused on the prospects because of many years of lackluster trade deadlines? Also, its time to gear up for a legit playoff run and there aren't any more excuses as to why the Sox can't do it. And, it may be the trade deadline, but the dongs will never be moved in tonight's Dong Report.
It feels like a long time ago now that the big 3 Red Sox prospects were the focus of the team and now they've all underwhelmed. What about that time was influential in today's deadline moves? Then, Rob Bradford joins live in studio to give his thoughts on the acquisition of Adley Rutschman and the departure of Marcelo Mayer. And, Bradfo emphasizes that the purpose of overpaying for Rutschman among other moves is to legitimately go for the World Series.
Lots of prospects were given up for Adley Rutschman, but if the idea was to make the 2026 Red Sox better, then that bridge can be crossed later. Then, Craig Breslow spoke about the trade deadline and felt pretty convinced about the moves he made. And, Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon were dealt because of the pitching development Breslow trusts which everyone might need to start trusting too.
The show starts right as the trade deadline ends and the Red Sox were aggressive in making the deals they wanted. How shocking was it to see Craig Breslow not sit on his hands and get the trades he wanted done? Then, Marcelo Mayer's tenure in Boston is over and it sure sounds like the Sox didn't want anything to do with him which is why a reliever was the return. And, it may have been an overpay for the Sox to acquire Adley Rutschman, but that's the price it takes to make a World Series contending team.
