Remember all of those times when you wished Chris Chalmers would be on the pod more? Well how about this: he was the only one who joined Tyler today on the pod. They also called Liam in from the bullpen and had a nice three-man conversation on a whole bunch of topics. They started things off by talking about Chalmer's run through Edmonton Minor Hockey Week and Tyler had some memories of the iconic tournament as well. From there, they talked about everything that went down this weekend in the NHL like the Oilers beating the Canucks and Bruce Boudreau being let go as the Head Coach in Vancouver. How did the Canucks let this get as ugly as it did? They discussed. After that, Tyler welcomed Mike Stelter to the show to talk about the launch of The Ben Stelter Fund and also, the upcoming Ben Stelter Memorial Tournament. Alec Card, one of the event's organizers was also there to tell people what they can expect from the tournament, which is coming up on February 16th. The Stelter family is doing some great work in the community all in Ben's name and talked about the impact of what they've done and how they're growing the fund.If you want more info you can head here: https://stolleryci.crowdchange.ca/27588To wrap things up, Chalmers and Yaremchuk got excited for this weekend's big tournament in Jasper! It's Friday afternoon and that means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has wrapped and is here to help you get through what's left of your week. On today's show, we talked about Ben Stelter, the Pacific Division, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's podcast, we got started by honouring Ben Stelter who unfortunately lost his battle with brain cancer after capturing the city's hearts and imagination. From the way the boys embraced Ben as part of the team to the way the city rallied around him from the moment we met him, it goes without saying that he captured our imaginations in a way that no one could have expected. Turning to hockey, we spent some time looking at the Pacific Division and took a few guesses as to how the eight teams will shake out over the course of the season. Is this Edmonton's division to lose? Where does Calgary rank? From there, we looked at Tyler Benson signing a fresh one-year contract and what it will take for him to crack a roster that's looking deeper than it has in quite some time. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another edition of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
Happy Thursday! Hunter starts off the show by wishing his condolences to Ben Stelter, the young Oilers fan who lost his life due to brain cancer earlier this week before getting into the meat of the episode. After that, he brings up the debate on if the Penguins should wait to extend Tristan Jarry after the season or if they should just get it out of the way now. He looks at his numbers from the past couple of years to see what AAV he could get followed by what he still needs to see in Jarry to feel comfortable about an extension right now. He then gives his stance on it, even though the goalie market next year isn't that good before touching on some Metro power rankings. How do the Penguins currently stack up to the rest of the Metro teams? Are they still squarely a playoff team heading into next season? Which teams have improved vs which teams have not? Finally, Hunter looks at some other pending UFAs on the Penguins and gives his thoughts on if the Penguins should have any extension talks with them. Back again this week and we had to record this twice because our file got corrupted. First and most importantly, we want to give so love to Ben Stelter and his family. Ben was such a light that will continue to shine via the Oilers organization and its fans. With having to re-record we caught the Robin Lehner out for the season news. It's Wednesday and that can only mean one thing... a brand new episode of your favourite podcast - Better Lait Than Never! Are you excited? Of course you are.Kicking off this week's podcast, I got started with a tribute to Ben Stelter after news came out that everyone's favourite fan passed away last night after an extended battle with cancer. Needless to say, it was tough news for everyone to hear today and I wanted to send my thoughts out to the Stelter family during this horrible time. From there, I tried to get back to business and create some FOMO for each and every one of you that chose not to come with us to Toronto on Friday for the first-ever summer #NationVacation. While we're having an amazing time cheering on the Jays, you'll be at home in your tear-soaked pajamas and I hope you'll find a way to learn from this most terrible of lessons. Getting back to the Oilers, how could I not mention Darnell Nurse's wedding that took place last weekend, or how the biggest story to come out of that knot-tying celebration were the pictures of Connor and Leon. I also ran through some of the latest rumours that are out there, including Edmonton's alleged interest in Phil Kessel. If Phil Kessel isn't to your liking, then would I be able to interest you in a slightly used PK Subban? I'm not sure where this rumour came from, but the Oilers were also tied to the 33-year-old defender this past week so I looked through his last few years and tried to decide if it was a good idea or not. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another round of voicemails to get your take on what's been going on over the last week in your life. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. 2:40 | Rest in Power, Ben Stelter. The six-year-old superfan of the Edmonton Oilers passed away Tuesday evening after bravely battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Ryan opens the show honouring the boy who brought the entire hockey community together. 7:54 | In less than a month, Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) voters will select their new leader. Jean Charest may be lagging in the polls, but he says he'll fight to the end. Ryan asks the former Quebec Premier about Pierre Poilievre missing the debate (and earning Stephen Harper's endorsement), his proposed tweak to the carbon tax, daycare funding, Reconciliation, and more. 43:47 | Following yesterday's interviews with alumni from Saskatoon's Legacy Christian Academy, Ryan checks in with Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck. What would appropriate government action look like? Are there funding implications? The conversation evolves to provincial political dynamics across western Canada, the rise of populism, and the role of Crown corporations.
