Introduction  A Certain Kind of Experience (v13-16a).  The inner testimony of the Holy Spirit (v13).  The eyewitness testimony of the Apostles (v14).  Your own personal testimony of Christ (v15).  A Certain Kind of Hope (v16b-19).  A Certain Kind of Love (v20-21).  Conclusion  Christian assurance is an outworking of the love that God has shown us in Jesus Christ.  It rests upon the testimony of God's Spirit within us, the testimony of the Apostolic witness, and the outworking of God's love in our lives.  ‘I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day!' (1 Tim 1:14).  ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!' Enter into your master's happiness.' (Matthew 25:23).

In this lively episode, Sandy kicks things off by sharing his wild encounter with a giant coyote on the Brushy Creek Trail in Cedar Park. This sparks a fun chat with JB and another guest about urban wildlife, with JB reassuring everyone that coyotes are more scaredy-cat than scary. They then switch gears to the recent inauguration, tossing in some light-hearted political banter. The trio wraps things up by debating Austin's ranking as the sixth most fun city in America, comparing it to places like New Orleans and Las Vegas.

Part of the process of getting into my body. Writers live in our heads. Yoga kept me body aware. Start feel yourself. Accesses to feel your feelings. Access internal world in more embodied way. Bad Acting = Facial Expressions. Get on the Body. Get off the face. Exercise: close eyes and feel everything. 2. How did writing impact your healing? Transformational impact as a person. Understanding my father, saw them separate from me. See myself for the first time. Writing from the child's perspective. A lot of inner-child work. Consciously explore my own reasons for doing what. Study of the self = memoir. Putting your characters IN the story. Concrete sensory details. Have access to that place.  3. Talk a little about the fears memoirists have around writing about their family. Any tips or guidelines? And how does that feed into breaking cycles of silence and secret-keeping? So important to get the stories on the page. Be a Just God on the page. Give everyone their reasons for doing what they did. Take a step back, and ask Why they did it. Shifts out of victimhood. People want to be seen and felt. Everyone was totally fine with it. Take time to figure out why they did it. 4. Your media kit mentions Trauma Bounce (bouncing back from the trauma). What should we be on the lookout for when writing and getting retriggered? Spent half the time crying. Strategies: therapy while writing, yoga, find safety where you can.   Exercise for memoirists: Highlight all the exposition. Get rid of all the the exposition and repetition. You can thread it back in afterwards.   5 How can wisdom come through action? Show it in the character arc, actions at end of story different than at the beginning.  So many objects in rough drafts. Use them for metaphor. Don't mine your life, mine your page.  Positive side to trauma. Try and try and try. "If you quit, you'll die." Train to survive. Feel so powerful in the end.  Writing to be in service to the reader. What are we in service to? The reader. What psychological practice can we share with the reader? Structure of book to manipulating reader's emotions.   Find Us:   Valerie's Linktree: https://linktr.ee/valerieihsan Erick's Linktree link: https://linktr.ee/erickmertzauthor

Episode #209:  A Certain Kind Of  (Song starts at 4:41 ) This song, #213, is in a different style to the piano vocal ones that have made up the bulk of the songs featured on this podcast. It was written in 1992 by myself and with Paul Dredge on guitar. So it's a guitar + voices song. Writing with Paul, when we are in the same room, is great fun. Having had a brief chat about the lyrics, what sort of mood style might suit, Paul will start playing a riff or some chords on his acoustic guitar. I have the prewritten lyrics draft in hand. It's completely liberating for me to wing a melody over the top of what Paul is playing. I have no idea what chords he's playing (I don't play guitar). His fingers moving easily on the fretboard, his eyes are shut for the most part. Me, I'm alternatively looking into space, or projecting some sort of energy back to Paul as we write together. He'll look up now and then and we just click together. There's been a fair few songs written like this by us now. We are about to release our 6th folk rock album. Our last one was called The Untrodden Track (It's streaming on all the usual platforms). Being able to write songs so easily and quickly together is something we certainly don't take for granted. It's a joy. The words include Tip toeing on broken glass. It was an emotional time for me when I write the lyrics (a love interest, things not running all that smoothly). t's a good idea as a song writer to keep an eye on yourself in terms of maybe keeping a diary. You can then. glean some truths, what's true to you. When you do this sort of work on the self, I think you're more likely to write songs that ring true. Because they come from a place of some clarity. That's the idea, anyway. You may choose to tuck of that truth into some arty sort of lyric writing, obtuse, if you will.. there's some interesting lines in this song that's for sure: communicating in a chamber One of the great things about emotional upheavals is they can be great experiences to draw on to put into art. Affairs of the heart. When Paul and I write, we are completely on the same page. We communicate without talking as we improvise our parts. You have to listen very closely to what the other person is doing, when you're in the moment, composing together. A Certain Kind Of was one of 17 songs we recorded and mixed in 3 days (!), our first time in a real studio. With Earl Pollard on drums and Michelle Pickett on vocal harmonies, it all came together really well. Everything was one take - including the vocals. All sung live together, with some tight harmonies. Performing music like this in the studio is a blast. I was as high as kite at the time of - and for days after - the recording sessions. It was like we managed to produce the paintings which I always imagined we could, after having working drawings and sketches for so long. Composing and recording is still where it's at for me after all these years. I'm putting the finishing touches to 5 albums at the moment, in different genres  - and I intend to release them all this year. This podcast is such good fun, creatively, it's a great release for me to me to be doing what amounts to a songwriter speaks sort of online gig each week. It's nice to be sharing the music, the stories, some songs writing ideas. By the way, you certainly don't need any musical theory up your sleeve to enjoy this podcast. It's inclusive, each week, while I'm inviting you into my songs (which at times are very personal), once they are complete , recorded even a demo, means they are outside of me, so I'm comfortable sharing. Each listener is going to hear the song differently. Some will hear the beat, others the melody, others the mood, others the lyrics. Arranging a song is great fun as well. So it's a multifaceted thing, this song writing..there's the lyrics, the music to compose, the demo to record, the finished arrangement. The live performance.

Text: Mark 1:40-45 ESV 40 And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” 42 And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. 43 And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once, 44 and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” 45 But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter. -Mark 1:40-45 ESV A CERTAIN KIND OF DISOBEDIENCE A leper came near to Jesus. As an outcast, he was imploring and kneeling in desperate need for healing. Moved with much compassion, he touched and healed him instantly. There was no fanfare. His leprosy was gone immediately. Jesus' healing is marked with supernaturality. Jesus charged him, saying, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” Jesus was asking the priests to validate His work. His intent was to reach out to the religious leaders not to undermine them. But the man went away telling everyone else about His healing. Who won't be excited? What was wrong? He disobeyed Jesus. He did not seek popularity. Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter. Sadly, this man has valued the physical and social blessings more than the spiritual cleansing. Consequently, he drew the attention away from Jesus' teaching and onto His miracles. Remember, this was the first temptation that Jesus triumphed over in the wilderness (see Mat 4:1–4). ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Questions answered this episode: As a young man in my mid twenties, I long for a godly woman. However, I've questioned my intentions about this yearning and wondered if my ambitions to get in shape, make a good living and develop a closer relationship with God could just be a cover for worshipping an idol of attracting a certain kind of woman. How can I learn to integrate these ambitions with becoming the kind of man God wants me to be. I want to get married but I see many huge challenges in raising a family. I wonder if it would be safer to join a monastery despite my strong desire for marriage. Do you have any advice? If a man and a woman were stranded alone in an island with no foreseeable way of ever leaving or having access to the Sacraments. Could they marry and raise a family? Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II's beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body.

Since childhood, I've been reflecting on the depiction of Beatrice d'Este, a duchess from fifteenth century Italy, in E. L. Konisgburg's novel The Second Mrs. Giaconda. What is the mystery of character? I think about that question all the time, and reading this novel may have been one of the influences that made me want to understand this mystery. The Case for Prosecuting Trump

The Jan. 6 hearings have made it clear that Donald Trump led a concerted, monthslong effort to overturn a democratic election. The extensive interviews — over 1,000 — that the House select committee conducted prove that Trump was told there was no evidence of election fraud, but he pressed his anti-democratic case regardless. And it appears that the hearings may be making an impact on public opinion: An ABC News/Ipsos survey released Sunday found that 58 percent of respondents believe Trump should be charged with a crime for his role in the Jan. 6 attack, up from 52 percent in April. But after all the evidence comes to light, will he actually face legal consequences? If the answer is no, then what might future presidents — including, perhaps, Trump himself — be emboldened to do? And what would that mean for the future of the American political system?Jamelle Bouie is a Times Opinion columnist and co-host of the podcast “Unclear and Present Danger.” Bouie brings a remarkable historical depth to his writing about American politics. His columns about Jan. 6 — and the troubling idiosyncrasies of Trump's presidency before it — have shown how the former president's illiberal actions have threatened the constitutional foundation of American government. So I asked him on the show to help me process the Jan. 6 hearings with an eye to America's past, and also to its uncertain future. We discuss why Jan. 6 may be not just an insurrection but “a kind of revolution or, at least, the very beginning of one”; how the anti-democratic nature of the American Constitution makes our system vulnerable to demagogues like Trump; the most important takeaways from the hearings so far; what could happen in 2024 if Trump is allowed to walk free; what Trump allies are already doing to gain power over elections; why refusing to prosecute Trump would itself be a “radical act”; why Republicans have grown increasingly suspicious of — and hostile to — representative democracy; why Bouie thinks prosecuting Trump would be worth the political fallout it would cause; and more.Mentioned:“Trump Had a Mob. Gravensteen is a beautiful medieval castle built in 1180 and located in Ghent, Belgium. This historical landmark has been repurposed over the years as a court, mint, prison, and factory. With all of this history, what stands out the most? An event in November of 1949 when 138 students from the University of Ghent stormed the castle to protest a hot topic: the price of beer. During the second part of the episode, we go on a journey told from the source, Aimo Koivunen. Using a translated version of his memoir, we live two weeks during WWII where Aimo escapes the pursuit of the Soviets while overdosing on methamphetamine, a drug commonly used during the war to combat battle fatigue. On this harrowing journey, Aimo manages to out-ski his troop, find himself with no food or weapons, ski through the middle of a Soviet camp, burn down a house, and blow himself up...twice.
