Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 236 features an interview with Paul Ryan of Origin. Origin should be pretty familiar to followers of Dreams of Consciousnes by now. The band has been written about ad nauseum on this site, and was the featured guest on the 100th episode of the podcast. Safe to say, I'm a fan. Guitarist/founder Paul Ryan caught me up with what the band has been up to since the last time he was on the podcast, and why he wants the flow of Origin's to be like movies. We also discussed the "one song a month" writing challenge that he gave himself to create the latest Origin album, Chaosmos, and why the band doesn't know what their albums will sound like until the recording process is done. My thanks to Paul for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening. Music In This Episode: "Dajjal" "Cascading Failures" taken from the album Unparalleled Universe "Decolonizer" "Panoptical" "Cullscape" taken from the album Chaosmos Thanks for listening! 25 years into existence for the death metal band Origin, and they refuse to let up the brutality. In fact, here we have a band aging like fine wine. We are joined by guitarist Paul Ryan in this episode, and being from Kansas isn't something you hear every day on where this all started for a band like Origin, yet here they are. The 8th and newest album, “Chaosmos,” seems to culminate everything Origin has released from the previous 7 into one chaotic offering. The album title fits in this case, get it? Paul talks about the production processes that went behind one of the more “technically” death metal albums of 2022, including his love for the food in his home state of Kansas. Finally, touring and live music is a big part of Origin's arsenal, and Paul talks about his appreciation for getting back on the road again after so long. Plenty to unpack on this episode, tune in and be sure to buy and stream “Chaosmos,” out now worldwide via Nuclear Blast Records.Stay connected with Origin, visit: https://www.originofficial.com/, https://www.instagram.com/originband/ and https://www.facebook.com/OriginStay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

Brent Everett Dickinson is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist and associate professor of art at Azusa Pacific University in California. In 2017, Dickinson founded the MMHTT (Marcel Maus Hermeneutical Think Tank), a multimedia web project driven by philosophical concepts such as power, authorship, immanence, performativity, and deterritorialization. In this week's discussion, Dickinson delves into the interplay between philosophy and art, as well as conceptions of beauty, stirring the debate as to whether beauty is truly objective. Dickinson also discusses "Chaosmos" (a term coined by James Joyce) in relation to the production and sustainment of culture—he notes that Western culture is one that perpetually produces the new, and thus conservatism and progressivism act in accord to some degree.Host Jeremy Tate @JeremyTate41Guest Brent Everett Dickinson
Fantasies are a central part of our lives, but what are they, why do we have them and what function to they play? This week the boys look at fantasy and how fantasies connect with ideology, loss, depression and objects of desire.

Apologies for those who previously downloaded this file and didn't hear any audio. As some already guessed, Mark found a "great" trade involving our audio equipment for a rare copy of Biblios, but we thankfully were able to get it called off. Sometimes a game is hitting all the right notes, and you want to recommend it wholeheartedly ... but there's just one tiny blemish you can't overlook. It's not enough to make a great game bad, but, man, just imagine if it someone had fixed that. This week we're looking at games that almost nail it. Before we smooth the last crease, we talk about Chaosmos, Subtext, On a Scale of One to T-Rex, and Empyreal: Spells & Steam. 01:26 - Krass Kariert 03:22 - Chaosmos 11:40 - On a Scale of One to T-Rex 16:52 - Subtext 20:58 - Empyreal: Spells & Steam 29:46 - Games with One Small Issue 31:44 - Kemet 36:06 - Root 37:28 - Cthulhu Wars 39:39 - Gloomhaven 42:14 - Decrypto 43:35 - Azul 44:53 - Point Salad 45:32 - Concordia Join the discussion at: https://boardgamebarrage.com/discord
Mitzi Peirone was born and raised in Turin, Italy. After high school Peirone left Italy to study theater in New York City at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She ended up writing and directing a short film called “Chaosmos,” and directing another short called “Versperlings” while she geared up for a feature. The screenplay for Braid rapidly became her main focus, and in 2016 Peirone partnered up with entrepreneur Joseph Lubin to create a new business model to finance her film, which became the first one ever to be fully financed through a cryptocurrency equity crowdsale. The sale raised 1.7 million dollars in two weeks. The film premiered at Tribeca in 2018 and won Best Picture at the Lausanne Underground Film Festival. Braid, which tells the story of two women who decide to rob their wealthy psychotic friend - but must participate in the friend’s perverse game of make believe, received worldwide distribution via Blue Fox Entertainment. Mitzi then signed with ICM, and her next directorial effort is a sci-fi thriller set in a tech-apocalypse, starring Bella Thorne. The movie Mitzi chose to discuss this week is a real mind bender - 2001's cult classic, Donnie Darko. Part of the reason that Mitzi loves this film is that, much like her own movie Braid, it can be hard to tell what is real and what is imagined. She discusses her unusual fundraising technique for the movie which involved a cryptocurrency equity crowdsale. Mitzi also emphasizes the need for filmmakers not to concern themselves with whether the audience will completely understand their vision. Plus, she talks at length about her belief that there is no difference between reality and dreams - a conversation that makes April's brain explode. You can see Braid streaming now. And if you haven't seen Donnie Darko yet, go watch it! With April Wolfe and Mitzi Peirone. You can let us know what you think of Switchblade Sisters on Twitter or Facebook. Apocalypses are something that all sorts of media have been attracted to and using all the time. For a long, long time books, movies, theatre, games… This game, Chaosmos, takes the apocalypse to a new level because it is the universe that’s about to end, not just a world that’s about to end, or a country or a civilisation… nop… it’s the universe! This is a game for two to four players in which they play an alien race looking for an item that will allow their race to survive the apocalypse and travel into the new universe to thrive again. With gorgeous artwork and some interesting bluffing and trick playing mechanics, this game is very promising and being funded in Kickstarter at the time of publishing this podcast. Hope you’ll take a look and that the interview sounds interesting!
