What's cookin everyone!Welcome BACK to the flight attendant forum! If you are new the flight attendant forum, I want to offer a very warm welcome to you as this is a platform for flight attendants, pilots and all crew within the aviation industry! However, this also serves as a travel community whether you are voracious traveler or just someone who wants to know a little behind the scenes about what it is like working for an airline! This weeks episode, I delve into the recent events that occurred on Horizon Air Flight 2059 regarding a pilot who was riding on the jump seat in the cockpit and all details entailed within. While this weeks episode is a solo episode, I wanted to shine spotlight not only on what the likely vibe was during this emergency, but to highlight the importance of mental health in a career field that is mostly spent away from home. Moreover, I will be teaming up with Megan in the future as well as other friends/colleagues of mine to dissect this further. For now, I wanted to simply open up the can of uncomfortable worms, so to speak, regarding mental health and the impact it can have on being a flight attendant/pilot. Thanks for listening as always!!Talk soonColin :)

William Bernard Ullathorne was a Benedictine monk and Roman Catholic priest who ministered in Australia from 1833 until 1840 and then returned to his native England, where he was ordained a bishop in 1847 and served as Bishop of Birmingham from 1850 until 1888. He is best known for his catechetical trilogy: The Endowments of Man, The Groundwork of the Christian Virtues, and Christian Patience, published in the 1880s. Christian Patience is presented in twelve lectures. Bishop Ullathorne teaches that Christian patience is both a special virtue and a universal virtue. As a special virtue, it is opposed to two opposite vices: a vice of excess, and a vice of defect. Patience is the virtuous mean between the excess vice of obstinacy and the defect vice of impatience. As a universal virtue, patience in found in all the Christian virtues, as it strengthens and perfects them.

Tonight we read Step number 12 on Lying. Surprisingly this has always been a challenging step to read and to read as a group. Immediately our minds begin to swirl with the costs of loving the Truth and understanding that Truth is a person. Our starting point in such discussions is often examples that are extreme; things or circumstances that people might face within this life where lying might be justified. St. John addresses this and much more within the step. However, one has to be willing to suspend judgment and allow St. John to guide us along a path that deepens our sensitivity in regards to the Truth as a whole. Our starting point must be Christ. We must begin to understand that lying is a sin against charity, and to lie when making a vow or an oath is a denial of God himself. St. John understands very well that the Evil One can use something as innocent and enjoyable as humor to justify and to legitimize lying.  Yet, John tells us that there are no small lies and once spoken they have an effect upon ourselves and others. They diminish the spirit of mourning; that is, compunction within the human heart. In doing so they distract us from the remembrance of God and the things of God. We must remember that God has given us a conscience, a means of knowing the truth with Him. This is what we must form through the gospel and through our participation in the life of Christ. We must also remember that the Evil One is the Father of Lies and will use a lie under the pretext of protecting others. In the face of this, St. John tells us, “when we are completely cleansed of lying, then we can resort to it, but only with fear and as occasion demands.” Only when the heart has been completely purified, where there is no love of falsehood and where there is the presence of great discernment, can such a decision be made. To love truth, St. John tells us, is the root of every good because it is to love Christ. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:25:04 Anthony Rago: I've also been thinking that our bodies and societies are parables of truth; and we can be lying by engaging in bad lifestyles.   00:37:35 Anthony Rago: I can imagine a confessor becoming very exasperated if we treat all this as confessable sins; and it would be very wearing on all of us.   00:39:28 David Swiderski: Like many other things isn't discernment take a place here. Is this so people will think I am funny (pride), will this hurt someone, will it erode trust (the cost of lies) or lead to a habit?   00:39:39 Anthony Rago: That makes sense, thanks   00:40:57 Cindy Moran: Corrie ten Boom  lied to the Nazis when they asked if jews were in the house. This is ok?   00:44:09 Ren Witter: I feel like this is a really hard one. Intellectually, I actually feel like it is easy to understand. Emotionally, it kind of feels like one of those instances where being Christian can feel like a “kill-joy” to put it in a light way. Maybe the immense anxiety I feel in response to this is coming from the fear that being a Christian means no joy or every-day happiness. Its weird because I know that that isn't true, but sometimes it can be hard to reconcile the lived experience of Christianity with the things the Fathers write.   00:46:34 Debra: Replying to "Corrie ten Boom  lie..."   I've read a priest's response to this, is Yes, it's ok; because the Nazis didn't have a right to what's going on in their home That we have dignity, and a right to privacy   I'm interested to hear what Fr Abernethy says

CHAPTER XII. Alice's Evidence “Here!” cried Alice, quite forgetting in the flurry of the moment how large she had grown in the last few minutes, and she jumped up in such a hurry that she tipped over the jury-box with the edge of her skirt, upsetting all the jurymen on to the heads of the crowd below, and there they lay sprawling about, reminding her very much of a globe of goldfish she had accidentally upset the week before. “Oh, I beg your pardon!” she exclaimed in a tone of great dismay, and began picking them up again as quickly as she could, for the accident of the goldfish kept running in her head, and she had a vague sort of idea that they must be collected at once and put back into the jury-box, or they would die. “The trial cannot proceed,” said the King in a very grave voice, “until all the jurymen are back in their proper places—all,” he repeated with great emphasis, looking hard at Alice as he said so. Alice looked at the jury-box, and saw that, in her haste, she had put the Lizard in head downwards, and the poor little thing was waving its tail about in a melancholy way, being quite unable to move. She soon got it out again, and put it right; “not that it signifies much,” she said to herself; “I should think it would be quite as much use in the trial one way up as the other.” As soon as the jury had a little recovered from the shock of being upset, and their slates and pencils had been found and handed back to them, they set to work very diligently to write out a history of the accident, all except the Lizard, who seemed too much overcome to do anything but sit with its mouth open, gazing up into the roof of the court. “What do you know about this business?” the King said to Alice. “Nothing,” said Alice. “Nothing whatever?” persisted the King. “Nothing whatever,” said Alice. “That's very important,” the King said, turning to the jury. They were just beginning to write this down on their slates, when the White Rabbit interrupted: “Unimportant, your Majesty means, of course,” he said in a very respectful tone, but frowning and making faces at him as he spoke. “Unimportant, of course, I meant,” the King hastily said, and went on to himself in an undertone, “important—unimportant—unimportant—important—” as if he were trying which word sounded best. Some of the jury wrote it down “important,” and some “unimportant.” Alice could see this, as she was near enough to look over their slates; “but it doesn't matter a bit,” she thought to herself. At this moment the King, who had been for some time busily writing in his note-book, cackled out “Silence!” and read out from his book, “Rule Forty-two. All persons more than a mile high to leave the court.” Everybody looked at Alice. “I'm not a mile high,” said Alice. “You are,” said the King. “Nearly two miles high,” added the Queen. “Well, I shan't go, at any rate,” said Alice: “besides, that's not a regular rule: you invented it just now.” “It's the oldest rule in the book,” said the King. “Then it ought to be Number One,” said Alice. The King turned pale, and shut his note-book hastily. “Consider your verdict,” he said to the jury, in a low, trembling voice. “There's more evidence to come yet, please your Majesty,” said the White Rabbit, jumping up in a great hurry; “this paper has just been picked up.” “What's in it?” said the Queen. “I haven't opened it yet,” said the White Rabbit, “but it seems to be a letter, written by the prisoner to—to somebody.” “It must have been that,” said the King, “unless it was written to nobody, which isn't usual, you know.” “Who is it directed to?” said one of the jurymen. “It isn't directed at all,” said the White Rabbit; “in fact, there's nothing written on the outside.” He unfolded the paper as he spoke, and added “It isn't a letter, after all: it's a set of verses.” “Are they in the prisoner's handwriting?” asked another of the jurymen. “No, they're not,” said the White Rabbit, “and that's the queerest thing about it.” (The jury all looked puzzled.) “He must have imitated somebody else's hand,” said the King. (The jury all brightened up again.) “Please your Majesty,” said the Knave, “I didn't write it, and they can't prove I did: there's no name signed at the end.” “If you didn't sign it,” said the King, “that only makes the matter worse. You must have meant some mischief, or else you'd have signed your name like an honest man.” There was a general clapping of hands at this: it was the first really clever thing the King had said that day. “That proves his guilt,” said the Queen. “It proves nothing of the sort!” said Alice. “Why, you don't even know what they're about!” “Read them,” said the King. The White Rabbit put on his spectacles. “Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?” he asked. “Begin at the beginning,” the King said gravely, “and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” These were the verses the White Rabbit read:— “They told me you had been to her,     And mentioned me to him: She gave me a good character,     But said I could not swim. He sent them word I had not gone     (We know it to be true): If she should push the matter on,     What would become of you? I gave her one, they gave him two,     You gave us three or more; They all returned from him to you,     Though they were mine before. If I or she should chance to be     Involved in this affair, He trusts to you to set them free,     Exactly as we were. My notion was that you had been     (Before she had this fit) An obstacle that came between     Him, and ourselves, and it. Don't let him know she liked them best,     For this must ever be A secret, kept from all the rest,     Between yourself and me.” “That's the most important piece of evidence we've heard yet,” said the King, rubbing his hands; “so now let the jury—” “If any one of them can explain it,” said Alice, (she had grown so large in the last few minutes that she wasn't a bit afraid of interrupting him,) “I'll give him sixpence. I don't believe there's an atom of meaning in it.” The jury all wrote down on their slates, “She doesn't believe there's an atom of meaning in it,” but none of them attempted to explain the paper. “If there's no meaning in it,” said the King, “that saves a world of trouble, you know, as we needn't try to find any. And yet I don't know,” he went on, spreading out the verses on his knee, and looking at them with one eye; “I seem to see some meaning in them, after all. “—said I could not swim—” you can't swim, can you?” he added, turning to the Knave. The Knave shook his head sadly. “Do I look like it?” he said. (Which he certainly did not, being made entirely of cardboard.) “All right, so far,” said the King, and he went on muttering over the verses to himself: “‘We know it to be true—' that's the jury, of course—‘I gave her one, they gave him two—' why, that must be what he did with the tarts, you know—” “But, it goes on ‘they all returned from him to you,'” said Alice. “Why, there they are!” said the King triumphantly, pointing to the tarts on the table. “Nothing can be clearer than that. Then again—‘before she had this fit—' you never had fits, my dear, I think?” he said to the Queen. “Never!” said the Queen furiously, throwing an inkstand at the Lizard as she spoke. (The unfortunate little Bill had left off writing on his slate with one finger, as he found it made no mark; but he now hastily began again, using the ink, that was trickling down his face, as long as it lasted.) “Then the words don't fit you,” said the King, looking round the court with a smile. There was a dead silence. “It's a pun!” the King added in an offended tone, and everybody laughed, “Let the jury consider their verdict,” the King said, for about the twentieth time that day. “No, no!” said the Queen. “Sentence first—verdict afterwards.” “Stuff and nonsense!” said Alice loudly. “The idea of having the sentence first!” “Hold your tongue!” said the Queen, turning purple. “I won't!” said Alice. “Off with her head!” the Queen shouted at the top of her voice. Nobody moved. “Who cares for you?” said Alice, (she had grown to her full size by this time.) “You're nothing but a pack of cards!” At this the whole pack rose up into the air, and came flying down upon her: she gave a little scream, half of fright and half of anger, and tried to beat them off, and found herself lying on the bank, with her head in the lap of her sister, who was gently brushing away some dead leaves that had fluttered down from the trees upon her face. “Wake up, Alice dear!” said her sister; “Why, what a long sleep you've had!” “Oh, I've had such a curious dream!” said Alice, and she told her sister, as well as she could remember them, all these strange Adventures of hers that you have just been reading about; and when she had finished, her sister kissed her, and said, “It was a curious dream, dear, certainly: but now run in to your tea; it's getting late.” So Alice got up and ran off, thinking while she ran, as well she might, what a wonderful dream it had been. But her sister sat still just as she left her, leaning her head on her hand, watching the setting sun, and thinking of little Alice and all her wonderful Adventures, till she too began dreaming after a fashion, and this was her dream:— First, she dreamed of little Alice herself, and once again the tiny hands were clasped upon her knee, and the bright eager eyes were looking up into hers—she could hear the very tones of her voice, and see that queer little toss of her head to keep back the wandering hair that would always get into her eyes—and still as she listened, or seemed to listen, the whole place around her became alive with the strange creatures of her little sister's dream. The long grass rustled at her feet as the White Rabbit hurried by—the frightened Mouse splashed his way through the neighbouring pool—she could hear the rattle of the teacups as the March Hare and his friends shared their never-ending meal, and the shrill voice of the Queen ordering off her unfortunate guests to execution—once more the pig-baby was sneezing on the Duchess's knee, while plates and dishes crashed around it—once more the shriek of the Gryphon, the squeaking of the Lizard's slate-pencil, and the choking of the suppressed guinea-pigs, filled the air, mixed up with the distant sobs of the miserable Mock Turtle. So she sat on, with closed eyes, and half believed herself in Wonderland, though she knew she had but to open them again, and all would change to dull reality—the grass would be only rustling in the wind, and the pool rippling to the waving of the reeds—the rattling teacups would change to tinkling sheep-bells, and the Queen's shrill cries to the voice of the shepherd boy—and the sneeze of the baby, the shriek of the Gryphon, and all the other queer noises, would change (she knew) to the confused clamour of the busy farm-yard—while the lowing of the cattle in the distance would take the place of the Mock Turtle's heavy sobs. Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days. THE END

Anna Drubestkoya is able to borrow a horse and carriage from the Rostovs to head to Count Bezukhov's mansion, where the Count is said to be on his deathbed.  Anna relays her plan to her son – to delicately ask Count Bezukhov for some financing…..in the Count's last moments. Humbly asking for money was surely just as uncomfortable then as it is now. Anna tells her son, who is embarrassed about asking for a hand-out: This is about your future, not mine, so don't let pride get in the way. She realizes she needs 500 rubles to get her son outfitted and supplied to join the prestigious Imperial Guards. They arrive at the extravagant estate. Anna scurries passed the porter and gets in the vestibule. The staff tells her the Count is not taking any visitors due to his health but this does not stop Anna. She asks to speak to Count Vasili Kuragin. He is a relation of Count Bezukhov, through his wife, and since Count Bezukhov doesn't appear to have any legitimate children, Vasili is near the front of the line to inherit. Three nieces, labeled “princesses” are also staying at the mansion and are in a similar position. Boris is the Count's godson, so he may also warrant minor consideration. Lastly, the Count's illegitimate son, Pierre, is taking up one of the many spare rooms at this solemn time. The potential distributes are in one place, and eyes are on the prize – but not so much with Boris and Pierre. Prince Vasili comes to speak to Anna and relays how poorly the Count is doing. Anna insists she be one of the patient's nurses. This would involve cleansing the Count for Last Rights if necessary. She claims, in her effort to keep herself in the inner circle, that although the duties of a Christian are harsh, she is there to fulfill them. Vasili is trying to get rid of her, but accepts this isn't happening. One of Count Bezukhov's nieces complains of the stir Anna is causing and that it is disturbing the Count. However, Anna is likely having no such effect. Anna has entrenched herself for what are likely the final moments of one of the richest men in the country. She tells her son to go meet with Pierre and convey the Rostov's invitation to dinner.

Job responds to Zophar, but is speaking to all his companions. Job is frustrated and says sarcastically, "You know it all you three; you have all the wisdom!" Job posits that karma and cause-and-effect hardly explains his plight. He admits looking a mess and that objectively, it sure looks like he is being punished. However, he tells his friends to look around and see all the evil-doers who are prospering. In his mind, as an elder with a renewed focus on the nature of reality, it has always been this way. Those who do wrong often have great worldly success. Some are awarded material wealth who provoke their fellow man to immoral behavior or a wrong path. How is this fair? Job challenges his companions to account for that. He warns them not to be so smug and sure of themselves. His point is: suffering is not always brought about by transgressions. It is all up to God – the great puppet master we struggle to understand. Job acknowledges there are lessons in God's creations - and some show how cruel the world can be. Look how animals devour each other. It is certainly not pleasant to be prey. And man is often animalistic, going after his brother for base reasons. Job recognizes God's imprint is in everything, even the ugly and violent. It is a difficult concept he has internalized through being tested. The emphasis is on God's power to hurt because Job is so beaten. Job believes he differs from his friends in that he wants to look deeper into the Great mysteries. When he received an abundant life from God, for living upright and making the right sacrifices, he was not struggling with these questions of mankind. In a sense, by being brought low, Job is on his way to being ennobled. Job provides a warning: avoid the pride and arrogance to think you have the rules figured out. Recognize your position in relation to the Almighty and be humble. In Job's searching, he is at a point where he is thinking about how God destroys for reasons he can't fathom. Maybe there is a reason; but he doesn't get it. He will not stop reaching out, however, for answers and remedy.

The Spouter-Inn; or, A Conversation with Great Books

When news of this being's phenomenal genesis was first released to the world, a certain phrase was used that has—at varying times—been attributed both to me and to others. On the newsflashes coming over our tvs on that fateful night, one sentence was repeated over and over again: ‘The superman exists and he's American.' I never said that. [...] I presume the remark was edited or toned down so as not to offend public sensibilities. [...] What I said was ‘God exists and he's American.'Watchmen, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, is an superhero comic about time, history, power, and the threat of the Cold War. In other words, it's very 1980s. Chris and Suzanne reflect on their own experiences of the 1980s, and they become particularly fascinated with Dr. Manhattan—a character who experiences all of time at once, but also moves through time linearly. They also consider the book's reckoning of an apocalypse, its deeply intricate formal construction, and what it means if these characters are kind of unlikeable.SHOW NOTES.Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons: Watchmen. The fallen angels had been set on humanity's destruction. At the same time they were dependent on humans as a place of refuge. It came to pass that rather than destroying them completely they found a way past having to depend on their bodies to dwell in or possess. They discovered a process to use them to become a new breed of humanoid. The demons are reborn through humans as a new breed called warlocks. In profane spite, the fallen angels continue their campaign against humanity as warlocks. They gain great influence through politics, education, religion, the media, etc. They capitalize on mankind's inherent wickedness and embolden humanity to become something that even God agonizes over. The Warlocks want God to hate humanity as much as they do. However, they don't want to be wiped away in God's wrath. Knowing there is an extinction level event coming, the warlocks find out that a man called Noah is the only one with a means of escaping it. The Warlocks want to find Noah so they can hi-jack his vessel, but they especially want to find him so they can end the continuation of humanity by replacing them. Though God could create another race of humans, the point is to thrust a sword to the heart of God by getting Him to wipe out His own creation. The twist of the knife will be in them killing the only human left God favored; Noah. But to kill Noah they'll have to get past the sons of the sons of God; the sons of the angels who remained loyal to God and shared in His love of His creation. The children of these Angelic sons of God became the heroes of old and great renown. These misunderstood half human angels are the Nephelim. LISTEN TO THE WHOLE BOOK FOR FREE IF YA LIKE, HERE! NOTE: This is a creative work and a means of entertainment made with a hope to inspire the reader with a healthy curiosity to examine the Bible. It is not meant to promote an idea of how the “Flood Event” could have happened. For the true account of Noah, prayer and reading the Bible is highly recommended. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/alfonzo-rachel/support

Luang Por in the West – 1977 & 1979: Part 1 INNER LAND – OUTER LAND In 1976, Ajahn Sumedho returned to California in order to visit his parents. On his flight back to Thailand, he stopped over in London for a few days as a guest of the English Sangha Trust (E.S.T.), a body set up to establish a Theravada Sangha in England. For the duration of his visit, Ajahn Sumedho stayed at Hampstead Vihāra, a four-storeyed terraced house belonging to the trust on the busy Haverstock Hill road, a mile or so south of Hampstead Heath. The E.S.T. had suffered years of frustration and disappointment in their efforts to promote a home-grown Sangha. In Ajahn Sumedho, they saw someone who might finally turn their dreams into reality. …

The tape recording made that night captures wonderfully the warmth and informality of the occasion. ‘Monks' and ‘zestful' are two words not commonly linked in one sentence, but the conviviality, punctuated by gales of laughter, is tangible. It was the old magic of Luang Por, making people feel by his presence that they'd never in their lives been so happy and contented. He also took the opportunity to show off his only English phrase. Just a few sentences into a more formal Dhamma talk, a layperson entered the room with a new tray of hot drinks. …

This barren life of monotonous routine, reclusive loneliness, and soulless hoarding is all he knows, until, one day, something happens that changes it…for good. It is a deceptively quaint and simple story set in the countryside of 19 th century England that is densely packed with insights into the human soul and – when all is said and done – devastatingly sweet. This barren life of monotonous routine, reclusive loneliness, and soulless hoarding is all he knows, until, one day, something happens that changes it…for good. We're once again hit by the plague and it's just the original duet on this episode, in which we follow up with Evan's LCG Store Championship and Leo tells us exactly what he thinks of Stephen King. While we had planned to look at the recently released Wave 8 of X-Wing miniatures, we decided to hold off until we could all add our two cents. Hopefully, we'll have a full house for the next episode so we can actually do that! This episode follows up on many of the topics covered in the last one, including where the Living Card Game stands among all the other popular Star Wars games from Fantasy Flight and what we think of the monthly content updates for SWTOR, as we finish up Chapter XI of Fallen Empire and look forward to Chapter XII. Tonight, we offer you Dana Janssen, who , with the help of Akron/Family, shook up the Indie Rock scene of the early oughts with an unhinged melange of folk, noise, and experimental rock. He'd gone on to Young God Records label mates (and label founder Micheal Gira's) Swans extension The Angels of Light.Dana married and relocate tp Portland, where, amid a home festooned with house plants, composed (the inferred) percussion to Mort Garson's cult electronic album that dropped in the year of my birth, !976. That record, Mother Earth's Plantasia, never reached worldwide acclaim, but made a massive dent in the underground. With a sketch of percussion, Dana allowed his surroundings to guide him. This is the zygote of Experiments In Plant Based Music Vol.1.We dig into the NYC of the early 2000s, the influence of Bob Dylan, early Dead, Sonic Youth, Swans, Tortoise... a segue into horror soundtracks, the trappings of being from the Eastern Pennsylvania area...
