Tim Shipman and Charles Parton, China adviser at the Council on Geostrategy, join James Heale to discuss the ongoing fallout over the collapse of the Westminster spy case. Security minister Dan Jarvis answered an urgent question on the matter late on Monday in Parliament, stringently denying that the government played an active role in collapsing the case. But, as Charles and Tim stress, the case still doesn't add up. Is it as simple as the government not wanting to offend China? And is the deputy national security adviser being 'hung out to dry'?Produced by Patrick Gibbons.Become a Spectator subscriber today to access this podcast without adverts. The Conservatives have accused Keir Starmer and those around him of wilfully forcing the collapse of a trial involving two young British men accused of spying for the Chinese government - allegations they deny. Security minister Dan Jarvis got to his feet in the Commons last night to angrily deny Kemi Badenoch's attacks - it's all the fault of the last Conservative government was his counter charge. So why exactly did the case collapse? Did those in government really choose to protect economic interests over national security? Or could this be a case of cock up rather than conspiracy?Later, which party leader emerged best from the conference season. And what might this tell us about the public hunger for change? The News Agents is brought to you by HSBC UK - https://www.hsbc.co.uk/EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal -> https://nordvpn.com/thenewsagents Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee

On today's episode I interview one of the most badass dudes I've been fortunate enough to meet - Dan Jarvis. His journey is WILD. 12 years in the Army. 6.5 as a Deputy Sheriff. We get deep into tales from combat, and talk about what it was like to step on a pressure plate IED then end up a few months later looking at a rifle about to end it all. A call the next morning changed his life and now he is putting his power to use through 22Zero - a nonprofit with a mission of ending veteran and first responder suicide. He has defied the odds and is taking a stand against the system with a clear message: Trauma is an injury that can heal. They offer this free service to veterans, first responders, medical personnel and their families. Stephen and Raya celebrate a half century of the Cyclist Pod with a bumper edition show; and if you ride bicycles (or even horses), this one is a must. In this massively drawn out podcast (and conversation), it's all about the terrain. Snow? We cover it. Riding huge organic beasts? We cover that too. Saddles both of the tiny triathlong shaped carbon and the massive 15th century leather variety are covered, and the velominati has a say on that too. OBVS. Who wins in a race of horse vs bike? Want the answers? Erm. So do we. But our major topic today is taking your bike off the road; as we discuss mountain biking, as a sport, as a pasttime, and as a way of roadies to get back to nature. And with that, MTB World Cup commentator Dan Jarvis is on the phone to tell us how you can get into it, and who is doing the business at the top end of the sport. LET'S OFF ROAD! Etc. Dan Jarvis is a former law enforcement officer and combat veteran. Dan came home from his deployments and struggled to adjust to life back at home, and even though he found purpose as a cop, he struggled. Hard. Dan was literally moments away from putting the gun to his head when an unexpected sound made […]
Raya and Stephen catch up with all two-wheel based goings on in this extended episode, where they delve into some Zwiftery, triathlon news and general idiocy. Fashionably late to the cyclocross party, our feature today has us talking from Cyclist Pod HQ to the voice of live UK events Dan Jarvis, while he hides in his car from his cleaning lady. As ever there's the Velominati, the Kitbag, News, a (literally) hairy The Bike Price is Right, Triathlon World, and You Drive Like a D*ck.
