WISH-TV Political Reporter Garrett Bergquist sits down with Dave Hoffman, current Lawrence Deputy Mayor and Republican candidate for mayor.Hofmann said he is running for mayor because he wants to continue the growth and safety improvements Lawrence has seen over the past 10 years. He said despite the new construction along 56th Street, city leaders have not neglected areas south of Pendleton Pike. He said two new neighborhoods are planned on the south end of town and city officials have spent $50 million bringing water and sewer lines up to date. To keep housing affordable, Hofmann said city leaders will have to be picky about which developments they approve to ensure a good mix of price points.Hofmann has said keeping crime rates low is one of his top priorities. He said the key to that is ensuring the Lawrence Police Department is fully staffed and fully funded. To keep those officers accountable to the public, Hofmann said LPD in 2017 became one of the first departments in the area to adopt body cameras."Our officers take great effort to make sure that they are consistent, that they are fair and balanced in their policing," he said. "It's the men and women of the Lawrence Police Department that get the credit for (dropping crime rates). And only by having a fully-staffed and funded police department can that occur."On economic growth, Hofmann said he wants to pursue a trades district near the I-465/Pendleton Pike interchange. Currently in the conceptual stages, the district would bring in businesses associated with skilled trades, such as HVAC contractors and electricians. In the nearer term, he said INDOT's plan to build a median along Pendleton Pike from I-465 to Oaklandon Road will create a safer and more attractice road and one more likely to draw developers.Hofmann said his work experience makes him the best candidate for mayor, pointing to his time as an IMPD commander, chief of the Lawrence Police Department and both chief of staff and deputy mayor to Collier.Indiana early voting began Wednesday, October 12.“All INdiana Politics” airs at 9:30 a.m. Sundays on WISH-TV.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of See generally, Dave Hoffman, Deputy Dean and William A. Schnader Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, joins Kristen Marino to discuss his research in contract law. Professor Hoffman begins by describing his path to academia and interdisciplinary methodological approaches. Then, he describes his forthcoming article, Nonparty Interests in Contract Law, in which he identifies “nonparty defaults” as a judicial technique for resolving contract disputes. He develops a normative account of when courts should advance these nonparty interests. Additionally, Hoffman outlines his forthcoming article, Defeating the Empire of Forms, which argues that the scope of forms in people's lives is a social problem that could be remedied by a reverse statute of frauds. Lastly, he discusses the collective implications of these articles. Interview by Kristen Marino, Media Editor, Vol. 171, University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Produced and edited by Andrew Gormley. The 1991 Washington Huskies are, by most accounts, one of the greatest college football teams ever assembled. With top players like Steve Emtman, Dave Hoffman, Jaime Fields, Donald Jones, Walter Bailey, Beno Bryant, Mario Bailey, Billy Joe Hobert and Mark Brunell as well as many others, the cast of characters not only on the field, but also on the coaching staff, were the stuff of legend. Former KJR personality Mike Gastineau, "The Gas Man", came to Seattle in early 1991, so he had a front row seat to see what that Husky team was able to do. Now, 30 years later, he has endeavored to give Husky fans and the rest of the nation a closer look at what that team was all about. His relationship with Hall-of-Fame coach Don James, James' wife Carol, as well as some of the players and other coaches associated with that team has allowed him to pull back the curtain, so to speak, and tell the backstories of what went on during that magical season. Dawgman's Kim Grinolds sat down with "The Gas Man" recently and got the chance to get the scoop on why Gastineau decided to write the book, what it meant as far as all of the information and his interviews with the players and coaches who made history. From the letdown of the 1990 season to the offseason of work the players and coaches put in to the epic win over Nebraska in Lincoln to their close call against Cal in Strawberry Canyon, Gastineau takes you through everything in his book "Fear No Man" that is required reading for any true Husky fan. In this episode, David A. Hoffman, Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, discusses his article "Hushing Contracts," which he co-authored with Erik Lampmann, a student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and published in the Washington University Law Review. Hoffman begins by explaining that a "hush contract" is a non-disclosure agreement, usually relating to sexual harassment or sexual violence. The #metoo movement has exposed how hush contracts have enable abusers to continue committing sexual harm. Many states are considering legislation to make hush contracts unenforceable, but Hoffman and Lampmann argue that a common law approach, using the contractual public policy doctrine, might be more effective. Hoffman is on Twitter at @HoffProf.This episode was hosted by Brian L. Frye, Spears-Gilbert Associate Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law. Frye is on Twitter at @brianlfrye. Interview with Dave Hoffman, senior director for community engagement for the Boston Celtics. With an increase in national awareness and activism related to racial profiling and police harassment, Dave was asked by the Celtics’ leadership to develop a proactive and thoughtful organizational response in the form of a community outreach initiative. Dave began by meeting with members of the 2016-17 Celtics team, such as Avery Bradley, Al Horford, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Amir Johnson and Jaylen Brown. Inspired by these conversations, Dave and Celtics staff developed and launched an anti-discrimination and bias-prevention program called The Playbook Initiative. The first step of this initiative was to enlist a racially, ethnically, and economically diverse group of youth as program designers. With this critical input, a “social playbook” was produced – a resource that helps facilitate authentic dialogue on race, religion, gender, disability and sexual orientation and equips youth, teachers, counselors and others with tools to safely intervene in challenging social situations.
