Once again, I answer a question from you guys! I have gotten this question time and time again from women doing the 30-Day Reboot The question usually goes along the lines of “I started the 30-Day Reboot, and I binged, does this mean I have to start from day 1, what do I do?” This is a very loaded and subjective question. From the nature of the question, you can tell it's specific for women currently doing the 30DR, but if you feel like you've been struggling with feelings of inadequacy then I suggest giving this one a listen! Everyone is different, and a huge part of food freedom is listening and getting back in touch with what your body needs. I will tell you my take on this. In this week's episode, I answer another question I got from one of you guys! I answer the question “should I stop calorie counting even if I get a lot of peace of mind from it?” Some people find calorie counting easy and some people find it's not at all easy. Let's discuss this. Firstly, I start off by defining what calorie counting even is. Calorie counting is measuring and finding out how many calories you're eating while tracking it down mentally or on an app. Calorie counting is keeping track of how many calories you're expelling when you work out or move around. Basically, I define calorie counting as a hyperawareness of how many calories are coming in and out of your body. Then, I mention the pros and cons of calorie counting and I answer these questions and more: Why do people calorie count? How to decide whether or not calorie counting is good for you and if you should stop doing it How can you stop if it is something you should be stopping? I leave you with quick little pointers on stopping calorie counting. Hopefully, this episode gives you clarity on whether calorie counting is for you! Hey Fam! I wanted to make today's episode to reassure those of you who are undoubtedly fearing that binge eating will always be a factor in your life. I completely understand the feeling. Throughout my 20s I believed that binging was a part of my personality and as a result I really did think that binge urges would always plague me and I would be in a constant battle with food. Well, I am here to assure you that is so far from the truth. I now have the healthiest relationship with food and my body that I can imagine. The urge to binge is entirely non-existent and I can proudly say that “I do NOT struggle with food!”. If you are in a place where you are doubting whether full recovery is possible, then I urge you to listen to this podcast. Following a recent dental surgery in which I could only consume liquids for a few days, I was reminded of my disordered eating days when I would YEARN for a viable excuse to restrict my calories. I took this to my Instagram stories and I was (un)surprised by the number of you who could relate to this !! Thankfully, I am now in a place where a few liquid only days doesn't faze nor excite me! In this episode I explain the difference between binge eating and extreme hunger. I get SO many DMs from people asking me how they can stop binge eating, when oftentimes they simply need to ride the extreme hunger wave and allow their body to re-fuel, following a period of restriction. However, this isn't always the case. Often we use food to cope with our emotions and this is really the foundation of most people's struggle with binge eating. I wanted to use this episode as a space to truly clarify what the difference is between the two - they can both be incredibly frustrating and scary to deal with, so I want you to AT LEAST understand which one you are experiencing, in order to make your recovery as effective as possible. As mentioned in this episode, I personally do not believe I have struggled with extreme hunger. If you are struggling with this, I want you to know that you are not alone. Listen in to hear my take on why saying yes to every craving ISN'T necessarily a good thing. Food freedom means deciding WHAT and HOW you would like to eat. It means giving yourself the CHOICE! This means that if you wish to set certain boundaries around what you eat, you absolutely can do this. Others can't find the motivation to pick up the pace without manual controls in front of them and love the accuracy of doing a structured workout indoors. Neither group is wrong. There is no right or wrong place to run - as long as you're moving correctly. Benefits [03:50] While some people would prefer to not be on a treadmill there are some benefits to both treadmill and outdoor runs. For example, treadmills are going to be your best friend if you can't get outside. Both modalities have pros and cons, and each can help you get stronger and faster, whether you're looking to train for a race or get in a cardio workout. How to Workout without Either Option [05:00] When you cannot get on a treadmill and cannot get outside, you can still do indoor running skill and strength workouts. You can do drills and still get your heart rate up real quick. Stop Running for a While [8:39] Working on running and strengthening your legs with pulling and drills will make you a better runner. 30-Day Reboot [09:15] If you are in a position where for whatever reason, you're not near the treadmill, or you can't get outside, and you can't get your running in, you can go through the free 30 Day reboot. Short episode summary In this episode of the RunRX Podcast, we are going to talk about how you should come back to running if you were on a break. If you were ever sick, injured, or inactive for a very long time, then listen to this episode. Timestamps of big takeaways The Challenge [01:50] If you were already working out, have a good routine, and took time off or got sick, then you have to come back with a long warm-up. Then, start working the routine back in. When you get sick, injured, or become inactive for a long time, you should focus on movement. Focus on warming up for a long time and targeting those hips, ankles, and joints, and just getting good movement in your body. Transitioning the Body [03:22] Spend the first few workouts listening to your body. If you push yourself right away, you might get your heart rate high. So listen to your body's signals. If you spend a good time warming up, your body will feel good. That is where you start your movements and push yourself little by little. Coming Back to the Movement [04:14] Instead of thinking that you have to come back and run your usual distance of let's say three miles, run and move for 20 minutes and just see how it feels to your body. Do a little bit of movement, drill a little, run a little walk, stop and reset, and get just to where you're just moving again. Then just feel how the movement feels. You are re-teaching yourself the correct way to move. And that's the best way to get back to the movement.
