Jason Foley (1-0) earned his first career win with a scoreless inning in relief of starter Matt Manning, who was activated off the 60-day injured list before the game after missing three months with right shoulder inflammation. Gregory Soto earned his 20th save. Griffin Jax (5-3) allowed three runs in 1/3 inning of relief. Mark Contreras hit his first career homer for the Twins, who have lost five of seven. White Sox 9, Royals 2 – Jiménez drives in 4, Abreu homers, White Sox beat Royals 9-2 Eloy Jiménez had three hits and four RBIs, José Abreu homered and the Chicago White Sox pounded the Kansas City Royals 9-2. The White Sox made no major moves prior to the trade deadline and will bank on improvement from within as they try to overtake Minnesota and Cleveland to win their second straight AL Central championship. This one wasn’t exactly pristine, but the White Sox will take the lopsided win. Jiménez singled and scored in a three-run first inning and smacked a two-run double in the fourth to bump Chicago’s lead to 5-2. He added a long sacrifice fly in the sixth before Abreu chased Royals starter Brad Keller with a two-run homer making it 8-2. Contreras got a standing ovation in what many thought would be his final home game at Wrigley Field against Pittsburgh on July 26. Teammates hugged him following Sunday’s 4-0 loss at San Francisco, thinking that might have been his last game for the Cubs. MLB – Twins stock up with starter Mahle, relievers López, Fulmer The Minnesota Twins stocked up their sputtering pitching staff before Tuesday’s trade deadline. They acquired All-Star closer Jorge López from the Baltimore Orioles, starter Tyler Mahle from the Cincinnati Reds and reliever Michael Fulmer from the Detroit Tigers, giving up a total of eight prospects in three separate deals. Azurá Stevens, Allie Quigley and Emma Meesseman each scored 14 points. The defending WNBA champions, the Sky (23-8) had their franchise-record 10-game home win streak snapped. Tonight Indiana Fever at Atlanta Dream, 7:00 p.m. WNBA – WNBA playoff picture still muddled, 2 weeks left in season The WNBA playoff picture is still unclear with two weeks left in the regular season. Five teams have clinched postseason berths and only three games separating Chicago, Las Vegas and Connecticut at the top of the standings. The Dolphins will forfeit a first-round selection in the 2023 draft and third-round selection in the 2024 draft. Ross is suspended through Oct. 17. He may not be present at the team’s facility and may not represent the club at any team or NFL event. There are still six teams vying for the final three spots, setting up what should be an exciting finish to the regular season. Each of those six teams has at least one game left against the other teams in the group. NBA – Bulls and Dragic finalize $2.9 million, 1-year contract The Chicago Bulls and guard Goran Dragic have finalized a one-year, $2.9 million contract. The Bulls tweeted a welcome message in announcing the deal about a month after the two sides reached an agreement. The 36-year-old Dragic has averaged 13.7 points and shot 36.2% on 3-pointers over 14 seasons with Phoenix, Houston, Miami, Toronto and Brooklyn. From Slovenia, he made an All-Star team with the Heat during the 2017-18 season and helped them advance to the 2020 NBA finals. Dragic averaged 7.5 points while shooting 25.4% from beyond the arc last season for Toronto and Brooklyn. NFL – NFL suspends Dolphins owner for tampering with Brady, Payton The NFL has suspended Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and fined him $1.5 million for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton following a six-month investigation stemming from Brian Flores’ racial discrimination lawsuit against the league. The league’s investigation found the Dolphins did not intentionally lose games during the 2019 season but the team had impermissible communication with Brady and his agent, Don Yee. The Dolphins will forfeit a first-round selection in the 2023 draft and third-round selection in the 2024 draft. Ross is suspended through Oct. 17. He may not be present at the team’s facility and may not represent the club at any team or NFL event. NFL – Art McNally set to become 1st NFL official in Hall of Fame The NFL finally will have an on-field official in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former referee Art McNally will be inducted into the Hall after a decades-long career starting as an on-field official and continuing as the head of officiating for the league. McNally was instrumental in modernizing and standardizing officiating. His use of film to teach and evaluate and a grading system is still mostly in use today and is credited for helping improve the way games have been called over the years. MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Detroit Tigers 5, Minnesota Twins 3 Chicago White Sox 9, Kansas City Royals 2 St. Louis Cardinals 6, Chicago Cubs 0 Tigers 5, Twins 3 – Tigers top Twins 5-3 after Minnesota’s flurry of trade deals Riley Greene had two hits and two RBIs as the Detroit Tigers spoiled Minnesota’s big trade deadline day, beating the Twins 5-3. Cardinals 6, Cubs 0 – Wainwright, reunited with Molina, hurls Cards past Cubs 6-0 Adam Wainwright pitched seven spotless innings with longtime catcher Yadier Molina back behind the plate, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 6-0. Paul Goldschmidt homered and drove in three runs to lead the St. Louis offense. Dylan Carlson hit a two-run shot and made a nice catch in center field. Nolan Arenado also went deep. Molina returned from knee inflammation that had sidelined him since June 16. He and Wainwright made their 317th career start as batterymates, passing the Boston/Milwaukee Braves duo of Warren Spahn and Del Crandall for sole possession of second place in major league history since 1901. The only pair in front is Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan with 324 for the Detroit Tigers from 1963-75. With the Cubs rebuilding and free agency looming, Contreras appeared destined to be traded. Fellow All-Star Happ also seemed like a good bet to be dealt. The Twins took a one-game lead in the AL Central into their game on Tuesday. They have a 5.30 team ERA since the All-Star break. MLB – Vin Scully, Dodgers broadcaster for 67 years, dies at 94 Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully, whose dulcet tones provided the soundtrack of summer while entertaining and informing Dodgers fans in Brooklyn and Los Angeles for 67 years, died Tuesday night, the team said. He was 94. Scully died at his home in the Hidden Hills section of Los Angeles, according to the team, which spoke to family members. As the longest tenured broadcaster with a single team in pro sports history, Scully saw it all and called it all. He began in the 1950s era of Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Tonight Dallas Wings 84, Chicago Sky 78 Wings 84, Sky 78 – Mabrey, McCowan help short-handed Wings beat Sky 84-78 Marina Mabrey scored a season-high 26 points, Teaira McCowan added 20 points and 12 rebounds and the Dallas Wings beat the Chicago Sky 84-78. Dallas was missing Arike Ogunbowale, who is third in the league in scoring at 19.9 points, due to an ankle injury. Kahleah Copper led Chicago with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Azurá Stevens, Allie Quigley and Emma Meesseman each scored 14 points. The defending WNBA champions, the Sky (23-8) had their franchise-record 10-game home win streak snapped. Tom Brady expected to retire after legendary 22-year NFL career with Patriots, Buccaneers Those close to Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady anticipate the seven-time Super Bowl champion will announce his retirement from the NFL in the near future, CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported Friday. As of now, the 44-year-old reigning Super Bowl MVP has yet to make a formal announcement about his future. Brady has also not yet officially informed Tampa Bay of his plans for 2022 and beyond, according to his agent, Don Yee, his father, Tom Brady Sr., and Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians. All three men provided statements to various media members amid Saturday reports from ESPN and NFL Network that indicated Brady had decided to retire after 22 seasons in the league. Teammates and close associates of Brady "remain convinced that the all-time great is preparing to retire from the game," La Canfora reported Friday, "with a formal announcement expected shortly. ... [Those peers] believe [Brady] went into this postseason knowing it would be his final run, no matter the outcome in the playoffs. ... Within the Bucs organization, sources said, there has been a growing sense that the team will end up in the market for a new starting quarterback next season." ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington took it a step further Saturday, reporting that Brady is retiring amid family and health reasons and "believes this is the right moment to end his playing career." NFL Media quickly followed suit, echoing the report. Teammates past and present soon chimed in on social media, paying their respects to Brady's 22-year career. But Yee and Brady Sr. have since denied that the QB has decided to hang up his cleats. "This story ... is total conjecture," Brady's father told NFL Media's Mike Giardi. "Tommy has not made a final decision one way or another, and anybody else that says that he has is absolutely wrong." Brady Sr. also told KRON-TV that his son is not retiring. Essentially, those close to the QB remain convinced he will call it a career, even if the QB's camp hasn't finalized a formal announcement. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support

Football player development is the topic in this edition of Schooled with the Professor. The Alliance of American Football (AAF) is heading into its third week of action. The XFL is preparing for a launch in 2020. But a third league is in the works that should be very interesting. The Pacific Pro Football League is preparing to develop young football players and get them ready for the NFL. It’s founder, Don Yee, joins us to explain. This isn’t a league that is competing against the NFL. It’s a league designed to develop future NFL players. I’ve known Don for three decades as an agent. He represents Tom Brady and has represented some of the top football players in those three decades. Don gives great detail in how this league will work: Starting in 2020, a four-team league will be formed, based in Southern California. Teams will have approximately 40 players and will be paid around $50,000 for a two-month schedule. Colleges have been a feeder system for the NFL but the college game has drifted away from what the NFL does. Most college offenses don’t have fullbacks. The PPFL will have fullbacks. Quarterbacks will take snaps from the huddle and will get NFL offensive coaching. It’s been successful in lining up sponsors and experts. As everyone knows, developmental leagues are important for the future of the NFL.

The Work in Sports Podcast - Insider Advice for Sports Careers
Jack Mills, agent for Baker Mayfield, joins the podcast to share the secrets he has learned over his 50 years representing NFL players. I've long held this belief that if you are a sports fan you should work in sports. I know, revolutionary, but hear me out.All the people out there who are accountants, administrators, human resources reps, sales account executives, marketing coordinators – all of these jobs exist in the sports industry, so rather than selling tires, why not sell tickets. Rather than marketing the worlds largest concrete museum, why not market sports events.Analyze spreadsheets for some ecommerce site, or analyze game film?Community relations for JP Morgan Chase, or Community Relations for the Toronto Blue Jays Just about every job in the business world can be done in the sports world. They are simpatico! But then there are the glamour jobs in sports too.Sports anchor.Coach.Scout.General Manager.Agent.These are the jobs that are very unique to the sports industry, and require special focus and talent. Let's hone in on that last one. Agent. Since Jerry Maguire the idea of becoming an agent has grown massively in popularityThere are about 830 agents certified by the NFL Players Association — more than one for every three players in or around the league. Roughly 75 percent of NFL players are represented by just 17 percent of all certified agents, according to NFLPA statistics. The Super Agents rep about 75% of the NFL, then the rest battle it out for who is left.Guys like Tom Condon – who represents Drew Brees, Eli Manning, JJ Watt and Matthew Stafford amongst others – accounts for 1.4 billion in contracts alone. That is insane. But, that doesn't mean the business is closed out for people trying to break in. These super agents don't work alone, they have huge agencies. There are Undrafted free agents, like Patriots Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler who is represented by little known Derek Simpson. There are ways to make a name for yourself in this side of the sports industry if you truly want it.But how? What is the answer? What should you learn? What should you focus on? How do you land clients?Well, I have just the person to answer that for you. Jack Mills from Capital Sports Advisors – don't know Jack? Well, you should. He's the agent for #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft Baker Mayfield. When Tom Condon and Drew Rosenhaus and Jimmy Sexton came knocking on Bakers door, it was Jack who stole the show.Jack's been around the block more than a few times. He represented 4 1st round picks in the 1970 draft. He's represented Eric Dickerson, Tony Boselli, Rod Smith and a bevy of other top line, pro bowl, hall of fame type players. And he's here, to share it all with you. So let's get to it.Questions for NFL Agent Jack Mills1: Over the years it appears that agency has consolidated into a few major big players – all the biggest and brightest get represented by a handful of names, or agencies. As someone with decades of experience, but maybe not as much of a household name as let's say Drew Rosenhaus -- how do you cut through huge competition to still land players like Baker Mayfield and 3rd round pick Michael Gallup? 2: I found it very interesting that Tom Brady and Jimmy Garapollo are represented by the same agent Don Yee – how does that work? How can you possibly do your fiduciary best by your client if another client is in competition for the same position on the same team?3: How would you describe the art of being an agent – is it a relationship job? Or more of a CBA / contract negotiation job?4: You and I were connected by a mutual friend Zach Gross, and I give Zach a lot of credit, you were a panelist at the Sports Management Worldwide NFL Combine Career Conference and he identified you as someone he wanted to meet, and he struck up a conversation and has built a relationship with you since. How vital is it to be that personality type, the aggressive fearless, talk to anyone type, to be a successful agent?
On Monday's podcast, I opened the show with reaction to fake Don Yee pranking Boston Herald columnist Ron Borges. I also shared some thoughts on Bill Simmons, Paul Pierce's No. 34 retirement ceremony, the Winter Olympics, and Rob Gronkowski's WWE future.
Episode 163 of the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast features a sports media roundtable with Boston Globe sports media writer Chad Finn and Black Sports Online founder and editor Robert Littal. In this podcast, the group discusses the Boston Herald suspending columnist Ron Borges after he was catfished by a person claiming to be Tom Brady’s agent; why something like this happened; how much Borges’ journalism history play into how we should think about this story; how alert sports journalists should be about potential cat-fishing attempts; the suspension of WEEI radio host Christian Fauria for using a fake Asian accent to impersonate Don Yee, Brady’s agent; our thoughts on Olympic coverage and the ratings so far; why NBA ratings are up in the regular season; the potential viewership for this year’s All-Star Game; why Kevin Garnett has worked as a broadcaster, and much more. We preview NFL Week 14. Plus, we are joined by Don Yee of Yee & Dubin Sports LLC., agent for Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Jimmy Garoppolo, as well as founder of headcoachranking.com. Yee gave his breakdown of Jimmy Garoppolo's first start with the 49'ers and an explanation of his new NFL Head Coach Ranking website.
Phil Perry speaks with Judy Battista, columnist for NFL.com, about the statement released by Don Yee regarding Tom Brady’s history with alleged concussions. Perry also answers listener questions regarding the Patriots.
Tom Brady's agent Don Yee is one of several partners who are launching the Pacific Pro Football League. The league will launch in summer of 2018 with four teams, each playing eight games, roughly 50 players on their roster. What makes this league so unique and interesting is they want to be an alternative to playing college football by paying the players (roughly $50,000), and training them to be a professional. Brian Cristiano and Rob Cressy dish about the viability of the Pacific Pro Football league. Will there be enough attention and viewership to bring in sponsors? How long does the league need to last before it sees major progress? What is their best case scenario: a player making it to the NFL? Kevin Cattani, sports marketing professor at the University of Dubuque, also chimes in on his thoughts from an academic standpoint (since these players will be forgoing traditional education.) At the end Brian and Rob give actionable advice on what you can implement into your business from the Pacific Pro Football league concept. Our goal of the podcast is to create the best sports marketing podcast and take The Sports Marketing Huddle up to #1 on iTunes New & Noteworthy. One way you can help support the show is by subscribing to The Sports Marketing Huddle on iTunes and letting your friends who are in the sports and marketing worlds know about it.
