Kris and David are guestless as we discuss the week that was January 11-17, 1999.We start with a wild WCW section, featuring Nitro, where Janie Engle makes a rare TV appearance while Eric Bischoff faces the wrath of Klondike Bill in setting up the ring, Pepe the stick horse meets his demise, Raven and "Jim" play some backgammon, and more. We also have a weak episode of Thunder and the third annual SOULED OUT pay-per-view, which features Hulk Hogan whipping David Flair pretty fiercely with his weightlifting belt, among other things. Booker T's story is tailor-made for A&E's Biography series: A Black man from Houston who went from empty pockets to the heights of professional wrestling. He's also someone who hasn't been covered to death on the WWE Network or the podcast circuit, which meant when it was time for Awesome Truth to pick an episode from A&E's big batch of wrestling content, the choice was easy. Join us as we discuss Harlem Heat's place in the tag team pantheon, the joys of Booker's theme song, and where he ranks as a WCW-to-WWE success story.

Collecting and presenting the most important Garland interviews and encounters that took place between 1935 and 1969, this work opens with her first radio appearance under contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and concludes with her last known interview, one taped for Radio Denmark just months before her death. What makes this collection unique and distinguishes it from the plethora of Garland biographies is that it places Judy in the role of storyteller. She wrote a number of essays for various publications and sat for countless print, radio, and television interviews. These and the other autobiographical efforts she made are proof that Judy Garland wanted her story told, and wanted it told in her own words. Finally, here it is. Randy L. The Netflix special Norm MacDonald recorded in his apartment before his death is out, Snoop Dogg canceled his international tour due to scheduling conflicts, including family obligations, and A&E's Biography on Bobby Brown chronicles his career including Whitney making the first move, his crush on Janet and fling with Madonna!!
For a long time, Bobby Brown was a tabloid magnet. Often, his misdeeds overshadowed his successful music career with both New Edition and as a solo artist. His relationship with Whitney Houston kept him in the headlines, as spotlighted on Bravo's “Being Bobby Brown” reality show in 2005 while they lived in Atlanta. It overshadowed the show itself, meant to be a comeback vehicle for him. Instead, their marriage ended. Now at age 53, Brown is now in a position to look back on his life with the help of A&E's “Biography” series, airing May 30 and 31. Rodney Ho spoke with Brown about the show and we'll hear that conversation on this week's podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Karen was the instantly recognizable lead singer of the Carpenters. The top-selling American musical act of the 1970s, they delivered the love songs that defined a generation. Little Girl Blue reveals Karen's heartbreaking struggles with her mother, brother, and husband; the intimate disclosures she made to her closest friends; her love for playing drums and her frustrated quest for solo stardom; and the ups and downs of her treatment for anorexia nervosa. After her shocking death at 32 years of age in 1983, she became the proverbial poster child for that disorder; but the other causes of her decline are laid bare for the first time in this moving account. Little Girl Blue is Karen Carpenter's definitive biography, based on exclusive interviews with her innermost circle of girlfriends and nearly 100 others, including childhood friends, professional associates, and lovers. He was arguably the second-biggest star of the 1980s, and then it all came apart in spectacular fashion. The rise and fall of the Ultimate Warrior is a wrestling story for the ages, which is why it's not surprising that Vice's Dark Side of the Ring and A&E's Biography both recently covered it in detail. But is either documentary any good? Do we still need to be telling the Warrior's tale in 2021, or have wrestling fans digested it in full already? Join us as we dissect the life and times of the late Jim Hellwig.

About This Episode: Ted Nugent has carved a permanent place in rock & roll history as the ultimate guitar-shredding showman, selling more than 40 million albums, performing over 6,756 high-octane live shows, and continuing to set attendance records at venues around the globe. Nugent started “beating on my first guitar around the age of five.” Strongly influenced by Chuck Berry and Bo Diddly, he knew he wanted to pursue that type of sound and attitude. Early bands, The Royal Highboys, and The Lourds, paved the way for the Amboy Dukes – and their psychedelic Journey to the Center of the Mind kicked Young Ted's career into hyper drive. The axe maniac soon broke out as a solo artist, signing with the legendary Epic Records, where the guitarist's prodigious talent, ear-shattering volume and over-the-top stage antics quickly earned him the moniker of Motor City Madman. Cranking out hits like “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Just What the Doctor Ordered,” “Free for All” and the iconic “Stranglehold,” Nugent garnered international acclaim and truly hit his stride, becoming the #1 Grossing Tour Act in the world. Nugent's no-holds-barred career now spans six decades of multi-platinum hits. The ultimate Road Warrior, touring and recording continue at Nugent's breakneck pace. Nugent and his inimitable sound have been featured on VH1's Behind the Music, A & E's Biography and more. Nugent was named Detroit's Greatest Guitar Player of All Time by readers of MLive. He enjoys The Double Win with his wife of 40+ years, five daughters, and nine grandchildren. In May 2011, Mr. Fisher entered into a worldwide licensing agreement with FilmOn to launch American Horrors as a new uncut 24 hour horror television channel as part of FilmOn's basic tier of channels. American Horrors joins industry brand names such as BBC News, Universal Sports and more as part of FilmOn's basic line up of channels that are available to subscribers for a $7.95 monthly fee (purchase a full year at $79.95 and receive two months free). FilmOn allows viewers to stream live TV on their Mac or PC computers, iPads/tablets, smart phones & mobile devices (iPhone, Android, Blackberry etc., etc.) and has just recently launched the world's first AP breaking 24 hour news channel With a long and controversial career which began in comic books, where Fisher discovered such talents as Gerard Way (lead singer for the chart-topping rock band My Chemical Romance); John Cassaday (Captain America) and political essayist Stephen Elliott (a regular contributor for the San Francisco Chronicle, award-winning novelist and child protection advocate) among others, Fisher has carved out a fierce reputation and was dubbed ‘The Most Dangerous Man in Comics.' (Hero Illustrated, 1994.) First put on the map by writing and publishing the infamous Jeffrey Dahmer comic book series, Mr. Fisher went on to write and publish books that would garner the young creator the ire of Milwaukee Brewing with the Jeffrey Dahmer: Milwaukee's Best t-shirts, the fear of Image Comics founders Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefield and Jim Lee with the release of Kill Image and even a lawsuit from OJ Simpson over the Doin' Time With OJ and OJ's Big Bust Out books. Fisher's opinions on serial killers and serial killer culture have been sought by numerous television producers for programs such as ABC's Day1, CNN's Murder By Numbers documentary, Entertainment Tonight, Larry King Live, The Jerry Springer Show, The Bertice Berry Show, CNN Headline News, A&E's Biography, American Scary, American Justice, on the radio with Crime Prevention 101 and True Crimes and in magazines such as Time, Tattoo Savage, Hero Illustrated, People, The Comics Journal, the non-fiction best seller The A-Z Guide to Serial Killers and many more. Fisher began his art career as the publisher behind Boneyard Press, a ferociously independent publishing house that has garnered coverage all over the world, in Japan (Words), Germany (Ego Magazine), England (The Sun) and brought the mass media (as well as protest marchers) to his door thanks to books such as Jeffrey Dahmer: An Unauthorized Biography of a Serial Killer, Rush Limbaugh Must Die, Dark Angel, Kill Marvel and Jeffrey Dahmer vs. Jesus Christ. Fisher's two collections of poetry (Poems for the Dead & Still Dead) were both carried in the Hot Topic chain of boutiques. Twice, Hero Illustrated placed Mr. Fisher in their 100 Most Important People In The Comics Industry list, and rock star Glenn Danzig hired Fisher to be the managing editor for his publishing company, Verotik, which Mr. Fisher promptly steered to the height of its popularity and controversy, when Mr. Fisher and co-author Christian Moore's story for Verotika #4, "A Taste of Cherry" was banned in Oklahoma on the grounds that it was obscene material and is banned in that state to this day. Never one to shy away from outrageous showmanship, Fisher has faked his own death for April Fool's Day (he was dead for a week before the hoax was uncovered by a pairing of The Comics Journal and The Comic's Buyers Guide), spit in the eye of industry goliath Marvel Comics (at the San Diego ComiCon Fisher printed up hundreds of black t-shirts proclaiming that "Marvel Can Suck My Cock”-- The shirts sold out instantly and dogged the larger comics publisher at comics conventions for years after going onto be declared the most controversial t-shirt in comics history) and has proven he has a gift for stirring up controversy that sells his products by the truckload. Mr. Fisher has been a paid feature speaker around the world (including a headlining role at the Festival of Fantasy & Terror in Mexico City, sharing a building with the President of Mexico at the time, Vincente Fox), and has spoken publicly about American poetry, team building, leadership development, and all things horror. Mr. Fisher is currently the subject of a new documentary, The Scariest Man in America, and his first feature film, The Garbage Man is available on DVD and Netflix.
