Mindfulness, enlightenment, inner-peace. If you are anything like me you might hear these words and glaze over a little bit. Seriously who's got time for that - and does it even make any difference? Today's guest is going to help me (and maybe you) sit with these terms a little longer and explore why they might be useful. Luke McLeod has become one of Australia's most popular thought leaders and practitioners in mindfulness and meditation, having trained in these practices for over two decades. But he didn't arrive on these through wanting to chase calm - he started to explore these as high performance tools. You may also remember Luke from the 2017 season of The Bachlorette here in Australia. His day-job though is teaching meditation practices to support those navigating overwhelm, anxiety, and wanting to drive higher performance. Luke is the founder of The Mindful Life App, Soul Alive, with thousands of members worldwide and the author of his book released this year, Everyday Enlightenment. Bring your curiosity to the forefront as we explore meditation and mindfulness with Luke McLeod.

How often do you read good fiction books? There was a stretch of maybe half a decade where I, although an avid reader, avoided reading any fiction because I believed that it was not productive. I read countless nutrition books, books on fitness, books on personal development, and more. They all contained a lot of facts and theories (which were great) but I was missing on something really special for my life. Luckily, a few years back after the poking and prodding of several people, I picked up a book called The Alchemist and it shined a bright light in a part of my mind that I had been neglecting. Little did I know that there was significant research touting the benefits of reading fiction. You can see marked changes in the brain, bolstered creativity, and so much more than the average person isn’t informed about. My rekindled love of fiction eventually led me to one of my favorite authors, Dan Millman, which is why I’m so excited to share this with you today! One of Dan’s books, that I read several years ago, still sits on my nightstand to this day (well, until I picked it up and brought it to the studio with me to record this). Thanks to Dan and other amazing authors, I’ve been able to foster new connections in my mind, paint more vibrant pictures than ever before, and I know it’s helped me to connect and relate with others so much more. If you’re not reading fiction books every now and then, I think this will be very inspirational in you doing so. Whether it’s physical books or audiobooks, storytelling (and story listening) is one of the things that makes us more human, and keeps our minds open to the possibility of everything. Dan is a remarkable person with a remarkable story. So, just click play, listen deeply, and soak it all in. Enjoy! In this episode you'll discover: The surprising benefits that reading fiction has on your brain. Why it’s important to be strong in multiple directions. What luck really is. What inspired Dan to write book that imbues fiction with autobiography. What it means to be a Peaceful Warrior. How paradox exists in all aspects of our lives. Why embracing the concept of change can quickly transform your life. Why comparing yourself to others can lead to suffering and how today’s social media explosion can add even more fuel to the fire. How self-acceptance can be a way to inner peace. Why everything you do matters. How giving up can still lead to success (as long as you do this one key thing!). What Dan does to stay vital and healthy at 71-years old (he’s still doing handstands and somersaults!). Items mentioned in this episode include: Onnit.com/Model

In today's episode, we're asking the hard question: how do I know what to do? How do I know when to keep fighting, when to turn the page, and know the difference? Does this information live in your gut? Your heart? Is it out there in the Universe waiting for us to grasp or find? Is it beyond our control? A wonderful set of questions asked by one of our listeners, join us in discovering just how to understand what it means to "know" what do to and when to do it; what it means when you "find" the answer you've been seeking "out there"; and why the answer is actually never "out there" but always, always within.

The B&E Podcast #113 "The Art of How to Motivate Yourself" Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: Nothing like a Not So Serious podcast to get into the little problem of motivation. Turns out, it involves rethinking some of our programmings and getting over a lot of social stigmas. When we follow our truest desires of what we want, without shame or guilt, we can create more joyfully and build momentum for taking on the big goals. POINT #1: "DO WHAT YOU WANT" -You might be surprised to realize how often we neglect doing what we really want. Sometimes doing what we want may seem counterproductive because we're judging its worth. Maybe doing that thing, no matter how trivial, may be the key to getting the ball rolling -- even if that's watching a movie, or taking a walk, or going out for a coffee. POINT #2: "REALLY DO WHAT YOU'RE DOING" -Now that we're doing more of what we want, now we have to actually do it. Really do it. One hundred percent. Even if that is playing video games. So often we don't even really do passive activities -- we're on our phones or thinking about the other things we should be doing. When you're not fully doing something, you're not really doing anything. Commit to work and commit to play, and you'll find more energy and more joy. POINT #3: "STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES" -We have our goals and ambitions that require discipline and work. That doesn't mean we have to grind the whole way. Chip away, work towards it, but take time to breathe and enjoy yourself. Today's episode explores equanimity: what it is, how to cultivate and apply it in our lives, and it's foundations in the principles of non-violence. Through examining our response to suffering, both outside of us and within, we begin to peel back the many layers of our own responses. The roots of suffering are a false sense of separateness and equanimity, or the practice of peace, is the culmination of practicing compassion, loving-kindness, mindfulness, and light-heartedness. When we laugh, we're in equanimity, when we extend true compassion or love to others or our selves, we're in equanimity.
In this week's episode, we explore what it means to be an empath. No longer considered as "out there," emapths are finding their voice and power in today's society. We look at the attributes of an empath, the differences between highly sensitive people and empaths, rekindling or cultivating our empathic abilities, and the importance of loving kindness and compassion in specifically an empath's life.

Mindfulness is a wonderful tool that anyone can learn and use. It's non-secular nature makes it accessible for virtually anyone willing to learn. And yet, there is a powerful link between mindfulness and spirituality. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive. As one begins to deepen their mindfulness practice, they can begin to have more spiritual experiences or understandings. When we merge the two, our spiritual path can become a source of strength and integrity for our entire lives. In this episode, we explore how mindfulness can open our hearts to receiving spiritual intuition, the importance of non-judgment in that process, and the beauty of choice.
In today's episode, we explore the question: what is love. We'll look at love from an emotional, felt sense, as well as what it is in universal form. The B&E Podcast #076 "What to do When It's a Slog & a Struggle" Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: We were literally struggling today and we decided to make it our topic for discussion. It went deeper than either of us expected. We learned that there is a lot to learn when we find ourselves in moments of struggle. What we discovered is that admitting it to ourselves is key to moving through it and finding extraordinary growth within ourselves. POINT #1: "ADMIT IT, YOU'RE STRUGGLING" -As we have heard so many times, the first step is admitting. When we can admit that we are struggling, without harsh judgments of ourselves, we can stop putting ourselves in a victim position and be more proactive. POINT #2: "SHIFT GEARS, RESET EXPECTATIONS" -After we have acknowledged our situation for what it is, we can change our expectations and focus on what we can actually do and where we can make progress. POINT #3: "THERE'S GOLD IN THERE" -When we find ourselves swearing at the computer or bemoaning the circumstances and limitations, it's usually an indication of something much deeper going on. When we dig in and shine a light on it, we can discover limiting beliefs that can be a catalyst to healthy change. We learn to embrace struggle as a necessary means to our evolution. To live a fulfilling life without having the courage to face our fears is an impossibility. On today’s QOD episode, Dan Millman ( http://www.peacefulwarrior.com ) provides you with clear guidelines about when to listen to fear and when to ignore it. What the heck happened? I mean, all of us were born absolutely perfect. With everything we needed. Totally maxed out on self worth. But something happened. Well, a bunch of things happened … We got hurt. We were abandoned. We messed up. We blamed ourselves. With every unfavorable event and negative emotion, we concealed another layer of our inborn sense of self worth, until it was no longer recognizable. Until we no longer felt worthy of the endless possibilities that were (and still are) our birthright. On today’s episode of The Quote of The Day Show, author and speaker Dan Millman implores us to consider this truth: “You are worth no more and no less than any human being, any saint, any leader who has ever lived.” Because self worth is not something we ever lose. It’s not something we need to raise. We already have it. It’s always been there, waiting to be rediscovered. Waiting for us to lose our judgments about ourselves. To make different choices. I can’t. Two words we say far too often. They are the words of self-imposed limitation. A waving of a white flag in the presence of our fears. The surrendering of untold possibilities. Fear can really do a number on us. It stops us in our tracks. Makes us tell silly lies about ourselves. Of course the silliest lie we tell ourselves is that we can’t do something. Because the truth is that we can do anything we put our minds to. YOU can do anything. (Well, almost anything. You know what I mean.) In today’s episode of The Quote of The Day Show, author and speaker Dan Millman reminds us that: “Beyond flying, levitating, or walking through walls, there is very little you can’t do.” Listen in and learn a simple visualization exercise that will help you move beyond fear and find the courage to know you can. To live a fulfilling life without having the courage to face our fears is an impossibility. Fear can be a useful servant protecting us from real dangers. However, its obsession with imaginary doom-and-gloom outcomes can preclude us from living satisfying lives. It is the voice in our heads determined to maintain the status quo, thus prohibiting our passage into the unknown, where growth takes place. On today’s QOD episode, Dan Millman provides you with clear guidelines about when to listen to fear, and when to ignore it.
