The argument is not that every beat causes trance, or that neuroscience has proven spirits. The stronger argument is that rhythm enters the human organism through hearing, motor prediction, breath, movement, attention, emotion, expectation, culture, and social synchrony. The drum becomes powerful when sound, body, group, ritual frame, and meaning converge. These sources support the archaeology, neuroscience, EEG research, shamanic studies, possession studies, Indigenous and culturally specific drum traditions, ritual theory, placebo and meaning-response research, ceremonial magic, and modern witchcraft material used in the episode.Core Academic and Scientific SourcesHuels, Emma R., Hyoungkyu Kim, UnCheol Lee, Tirsa Bel-Bahar, Ana V. This supports the claim that the brain does not merely hear rhythm as background sound; it can represent rhythmic structure in measurable ways.Nozaradan, Sylvie. “Exploring How Musical Rhythm Entrains Brain Activity with Electroencephalogram Frequency-Tagging.” Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B 369, no. 1658 (2014). Use as broader rhythm/EEG entrainment support. This helps explain frequency-tagging, beat tracking, meter, neural entrainment, and the measurable relationship between rhythmic structure and brain activity.Thaut, Michael H., Gerald C. McIntosh, and Volker Hoemberg. “Neurobiological Foundations of Neurologic Music Therapy: Rhythmic Entrainment and the Motor System.” Frontiers in Psychology 5 (2015). Use for rhythm as motor-system timing information. This supports the claim that a beat can become bodily instruction, not just sound for the ear. Especially useful when discussing rhythmic auditory stimulation, motor planning, gait, entrainment, and the auditory-motor bridge.Ross, Jessica M., John R. Use carefully: this does not make group drumming a cure-all. It supports the more grounded claim that embodied rhythm and group participation can affect mood, social connection, and body chemistry.Bittman, Barry B., et al. “Composite Effects of Group Drumming Music Therapy on Modulation of Neuroendocrine-Immune Parameters in Normal Subjects.” Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine 7, no. 1 (2001): 38–47. Use as older supporting material on group drumming and neuroendocrine-immune measures. Keep secondary. Fancourt is cleaner for the main script body.Archaeology and Deep History of DrumsLawergren, Bo. “Neolithic Drums in China.” In Music Archaeology in China. 2006. Use for clay drums in Neolithic China and the deep-history claim that drums are not just poetic symbols of antiquity. They appear in the archaeological record as instruments tied to early sound-making, ceremony, and social order. Both, Arnd Adje. “Music Archaeology: Some Methodological and Theoretical Considerations.” Use as general support for why ancient instruments should be treated as ritual and social evidence, not merely decorative objects.Anthropology, Ethnomusicology, Ritual, and TranceRouget, Gilbert. Music and Trance: A Theory of the Relations Between Music and Possession. Translated by Brunhilde Biebuyck. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1985. Essential source. Rouget helps keep the argument academically serious by emphasizing culture, ritual frame, meaning, and expectation.Becker, Judith. Deep Listeners: Music, Emotion, and Trancing. Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2004. Use for music-linked trancing, emotional absorption, religious experience, and culturally trained ways of listening. This supports the “hearing versus entering” distinction.McNeill, William H. Keeping Together in Time: Dance and Drill in Human History. Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1995. Use for marching, dance, drill, muscular bonding, synchronized movement, and rhythm as social glue. Colmenero, Alexandra Nelson, Stefanie Blain-Moraes, George A. Mashour, and Richard E. Harris. “Neural Correlates of the Shamanic State of Consciousness.” Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 15 (2021): 610466. Use for the strongest modern EEG anchor. This study used high-density EEG with shamanic practitioners and controls during rest, shamanic drumming, and classical music listening. It assessed altered-state reports alongside brain measures such as power, connectivity, signal diversity, and criticality. Use carefully: the study does not prove spirits or show that drumming mechanically causes trance in everyone. It supports the more careful claim that trained practitioners entering shamanic states with drumming show measurable brain-state differences.Gordon, Yoel, Golan Karvat, Noa Dagan, and Ayelet N. Landau. “Neural Tracking at Theta Predicts Drumming-Induced Altered States of Consciousness.” Scientific Reports 16, no. 1 (2026): Article 10204. Use for the strongest updated drumming/theta/neural-tracking source. This study tested drumming at theta, delta, and alpha-rate rhythms while recording EEG, and found that stronger rhythmic neural tracking at theta was linked to stronger altered-experience reports. Use carefully: this does not mean theta equals the spirit world or that one frequency opens a portal. The serious point is that altered experience may depend partly on how strongly the nervous system tracks rhythmic stimulation.Aparicio-Terrés, R., et al. “The Neurobiology of Altered States of Consciousness Induced by Drumming and Other Rhythmic Sound Patterns.” Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2025. Use for the newer review literature showing that rhythmic sound is now a serious altered-consciousness research topic. This supports the opening claim that modern academia is examining drumming, rhythmic sound, absorption, relaxation, cognition, and neural activity without reducing the subject to one simple “trance frequency.” The review is especially useful for framing the field as promising but still complex.Neher, Andrew. “Auditory Driving Observed with Scalp Electrodes in Normal Subjects.” Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology 13 (1961): 449–451. Use for the historical bridge between repetitive sound, EEG, auditory driving, and early scientific interest in rhythmic stimulation.Neher, Andrew. “A Physiological Explanation of Unusual Behavior in Ceremonies Involving Drums.” Human Biology 34, no. 2 (1962): 151–160. Use carefully. This is useful as an early attempt to connect ceremonial drumming and physiology, but it should be balanced with Rouget because the “drum simply causes trance” argument is too mechanical.Maurer, R., V. K. Kumar, L. Woodside, and R. J. Pekala. “Phenomenological Experience in Response to Monotonous Drumming and Hypnotizability.” American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis 40, no. 2 (1997): 130–145. Use for monotonous drumming, subjective altered experience, imagery, absorption, and hypnotizability.Maxfield, Melinda C. “Effects of Rhythmic Drumming on EEG and Subjective Experience.” PhD diss., Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, 1990. Use as older supporting context on drumming, EEG, imagery, body-image changes, and subjective altered experience. Especially useful when discussing rhythmic auditory stimulation, motor planning, gait, entrainment, and the auditory-motor bridge.Ross, Jessica M., John R. People Also Ask (FAQ) How does a guided Reiki journey help stop overthinking? A guided Reiki journey shifts your nervous system out of an active stress response into a grounded parasympathetic state. By working with the light of the divine mind and symbols like the distance symbol, Reiki helps dissolve negative thought forms and old beliefs, giving you the mental clarity needed to break repetitive circular loops. What is the River of Peace in a spiritual meditation? The River of Peace is an enlightened, sacred space within a guided spiritual journey used for deep energetic cleansing. It works alongside the life force of Reiki to wash away the worries of the world, dissolve unhealthy attachments or cords, and quiet a busy mind so you can align with your inner truth. How do you program Reiki to work "on the fly"? You can give Reiki a direct instruction to activate automatically whenever you experience unexpected stress or overthinking, a practice known as "microdosing Reiki." By setting this intention during a deep meditation, you allow the energy to instantly step in and reset your neural pathways in real time, even when you don't have time for a full session. Why for Jazz

Playlist of the Show:[23:09] What'd I Say - Ray Charles[26:30] Early Summer - Ryo Fukui[28:52] Hymn to Freedom - Oscar PetersonAI建议的爵士乐育儿歌单(20月龄-36月龄)20个月:高保真钢琴触键(物理建模期) ● 曲目: Midnight Sugar (山本刚), C-Jam Blues (Red Garland), Linus and Lucy (Vince Guaraldi), Bag's Groove (MJQ) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: 20个月的孩子,内耳耳蜗的**音调映射(Tonotopic map)**正在进行最后的物理微调。 1. Work Song (Nat Adderley) 2. Killer Joe (Benny Golson) 3. Blues in the Closet (Bud Powell) 4. 1. Moanin' (Art Blakey) 2. Song for My Father (Horace Silver) 3. The Sidewinder (Lee Morgan) 4. Watermelon Man (Herbie Hancock) 5. 1. Aruarian Dance (Nujabes) 2. Luv(sic) Part 3 (Nujabes) 3. Waltz for Life Will Born (Uyama Hiroto) 4. Take Five (Dave Brubeck) 2. Unsquare Dance (Dave Brubeck) 3. Blue Rondo à la Turk (Dave Brubeck) 4. 1. Waltz for Debby (Bill Evans) 2. Bluesette (Toots Thielemans) 3. Alice in Wonderland (Bill Evans) 4. Up with the Lark (Bill Evans) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: 三拍子会强烈刺激小脑的前庭系统。 1. The Girl from Ipanema (Stan Getz) 2. Wave (Antônio Carlos Jobim) 3. Desafinado (Stan Getz) 4. 1. So What (Miles Davis) 2. Maiden Voyage (Herbie Hancock) 3. Little Sunflower (Freddie Hubbard) 4. 1. My Funny Valentine (Chet Baker) 2. You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To (Art Pepper) 3. Autumn Leaves (Cannonball) 4. 1. Scrapple from the Apple (Charlie Parker) 2. A Night in Tunisia (Dizzy Gillespie) 3. Donna Lee (Charlie Parker) 4. Early Summer (Ryo Fukui) 2. Scenery (Ryo Fukui) 3. Blow Up (Isao Suzuki) 4. 1. L-O-V-E (Nat King Cole) 2. Cheek to Cheek (Fitzgerald & Armstrong) 3. Fly Me to the Moon (Sinatra) 4. How High the Moon (Ella Fitzgerald) ● 深度分析: ○ 脑神经科学: SSIR 假说(Shared Syntactic Integration Resource)指出,语言与音乐共享神经资源。 St. Thomas (Sonny Rollins) 2. Moritat (Sonny Rollins) 3. Cantaloop (Us3) 4. Mambo Inn (George Shearing) 2. Manteca (Dizzy Gillespie) 3. Afro Blue (Mongo Santamaría) 4. Spain (Chick Corea) 2. Birdland (Weather Report) 3. Giant Steps (John Coltrane) 2. Naima (John Coltrane) 3. Speak No Evil (Wayne Shorter) 4. 1. Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin) 2. Hymn to Freedom (Oscar Peterson) 3. The Köln Concert (Keith Jarrett) 4.

Chapman describes a deepening in 2013 following awakening in India (in Tiruvannamalai) that led to his book Magia and a shift toward a more “miraculous” view of realization beyond standard nonduality frameworks. They discuss delusion as mistaken identity, “silent knowing” as the impulse behind seeking, transmission and its seductions, the limits of maps versus the need for cosmology, and a gardening metaphor for traditions that avoids both perennial “mush” and rigid traditionalism. Chapman shares how he works with students through practices that let experiences disclose their nature, and he points to his site and retreats for further study.01:29 Meeting Alan Chapman02:45 Baptist's Head Era05:17 Awakening Deepens 201313:12 What I Know Sure17:29 Silent Knowing Faith21:15 Gnosticism Labels Rejected24:21 Traditions as Garden27:42 Universals and Particulars31:44 Fear and Running Away37:37 Delusion and Trust Thread44:24 Morality After Awakening46:01 Ramana Self Inquiry Myth47:09 Who Am I Inquiry48:34 Transmission Explained49:46 Seduction of Control52:24 Guru Yoga and Institutions54:43 Why Teachers Help56:28 What We Really Seek58:04 Entrainment and Dependency01:00:17 Cautionary Guru Stories01:04:42 Maps Versus Cosmology01:06:07 Let It Disclose01:07:12 Gardening the Path01:13:36 Faith and Silent Knowing01:19:13 Practice and Awakening01:22:44 Enjoying the Garden01:23:33 Extreme Awakening Chasing01:24:06 Two Worlds One Heart01:26:09 Farming Incarnation Metaphor01:27:39 Transmission Life and Death01:30:28 Minimal Tree Cosmology01:32:35 Unbinding Practice Steps01:34:41 Mounting Cosmology Stages01:36:49 Journal Envy and Comparison01:40:37 Dry Paths and Fireworks01:48:25 Cosmological Binding Method01:49:28 Unconditional States Test01:58:29 Cutting Down the Tree01:59:21 Resources Retreats Farewell

In times of collective tension and "pressure cooker" moments, how do we stay grounded? Join Colleen and Robyn Benelli as they explore the science of entrainment and the spiritual power of Reiki to embody peace during the Great Shift of 2026. Discover how your personal frequency can counterbalance global negativity and serve as a powerful form of activism. Key Insights * The Power of Entrainment: Just as metronomes eventually tick in unison, our energy can entrain to the higher frequency of Reiki. By holding a frequency of peace, we help the collective transition from anxiety into spiritual coherence. * Reiki as Activism: When external events feel out of control, our internal state becomes our most powerful tool. Embodying peace isn't bypassing reality; it's adding a "thread of light" to a global rope that holds the collective steady. * The Map of Consciousness: Referencing Dr. David Hawkins, Colleen explains that one individual vibrating at the level of Peace (600) can counterbalance 10 million people at lower frequencies. Your personal healing has a massive, measurable global ripple effect. * Self-Care is Activism: Maintaining your own wellness and moving forward in a positive way during the "Great Shift" isn't selfish—it is a necessary contribution to the wellness of the global human family.
People Also Ask (FAQ) * What is entrainment in Reiki? Entrainment is the process where different vibrating bodies lock into a shared frequency. In Reiki, our personal energy entrains to the higher, stable frequency of the Reiki energy, allowing us to remain calm even in stressful environments. * How does one person's energy affect the collective? Based on the Map of Consciousness, higher frequencies like Love and Peace have significantly more power than lower ones. A small percentage of the population holding high consciousness can counterbalance the negativity of the remaining 85%. * How can I use Reiki when I feel helpless about world events? You can use Reiki to regulate your nervous system through techniques like box breathing and then consciously emanate peace frequencies. This allows you to contribute to a "web of light" that supports the world, even when external outcomes are out of your control. The distinct biology of the human brain, scaffolded by language and culture, allows ideas to be formed, named, shared, and accumulated across generations. Dean Falk, Professor of Anthropology, Florida State University, explains how paleoneurologists study the brains of human ancestors by producing endocasts from fossilized skulls and measuring cranial capacities. Dated skulls indicate brain size more than tripled in hominins during the Stone Age that began around 3.5 million years ago, while endocasts can also preserve traces of blood vessels and convolutions, even though sulci are often fragmentary and difficult to interpret. Falk describes how sulcal patterns differ most noticeably between great apes and humans in the lateral prefrontal cortex and in the parieto-occipital association cortices, and she addresses long-running debate about whether the lunate sulcus in evolving hominins marked the anterior border of primary visual cortex as it does in living monkeys and apes. Because few fossils exist from the earlier “Botanic Age,” she outlines how comparative primatology and evolutionary developmental biology can extend the study of brain evolution by considering brain development and locomotion, including bipedalism. She applies this extended paleoneurological synthesis with special attention to auditory entrainment and complex grammatical language. Step into a sacred space of soul coherence and divine alignment. In this guided Reiki journey, we traverse the Bridge of Light to the higher realms, releasing old stories at the River of Peace and anchoring your 2026 visions into physical structure and practical action. Companion Link: https://youtu.be/FHE0jJKie6U Key Insights The Power of Automatic Writing: Using the Reiki channel to allow information to flow through your pen without evaluation helps bridge the gap between spiritual guidance and physical clarity. The River of Peace: Manifestation requires a "cleaning of the slate." By placing old stories, fears of responsibility, and doubts of worthiness into the river, you create the necessary space for your vision to land. Entrainment on the Bridge: The Bridge of Light serves as a frequency-matching tool. As you cross, you entrain your energy to your "authentic self," ensuring that the vision you bring back is aligned with your soul's truth. Vision as Structure: In the Field of Opportunities, vision moves from imagination to architecture. This journey helps identify the specific structures and practical steps needed this week to make your manifestation real. People Also Ask (FAQ) What is automatic writing in a Reiki journey? Automatic writing is a practice where you place pen to paper and allow Reiki to channel information through you without judgment. It helps bypass the analytical mind to receive direct insights about your path. How does Reiki help with the "Great Shift" of 2026? Reiki provides a stable frequency of divine love and higher consciousness. By entraining to these frequencies, you can remain centered and focused on your personal vision even when collective energy feels uncertain. Why is releasing "stories" important for manifestation? Visions often stall because they are trying to occupy the same space as old beliefs. The River of Peace practice allows you to dissolve those stories so your new vision has the energetic room to take form. ✨Connect with Colleen and Robyn  Classes: https://reikilifestyle.com/classes-page/ FREE Distance Reiki Share: https://reikilifestyle.com/community/  Podcast: https://reikilifestyle.com/podcast/ (available on all major platforms too) Website: https://reikilifestyle.com/ **DISCLAIMER** This episode is not a substitute for seeking professional medical care but is offered for relaxation and stress reduction, which support the body's natural healing capabilities. I was immediately drawn to find out more about filmmaker Bill Prokopow when I meet him at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023 and as you may have heard on Tuesday's episode, picking Bill's creative brain did not disappoint. Bill's film “Entrainment” is absolutely a captivating story told in an innovative and unique style and it took home three Filmmakers awards at SOFF 2023; FA - Outstanding Short Film – SciFi, Outstanding Screenplay – SciFi – Bill Prokopow, and Outstanding Creativity – SciFi. Welcome back,  Discover Indie Film Listeners! Did we all survive Thanksgiving? I'm hoping everyone's holiday was relaxing and joyful but if you find yourself in need of a energy recharge or some good old creative inspiration to get through this final push of the year, I have the perfect interview for you today. Did you ever meet somebody and think to yourself that they seem like an incredibly interesting person? That was my reaction after moderating a Q&A with Bill Prokopow at Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023. I shouldn't have been surprised. Bill's film “Entrainment” is absolutely a captivating story told in an innovative and unique style; of course its filmmaker is equally interesting. By the way, I wasn't the only one impressed with “Entrainment.” It took home three Filmmakers awards at SOFF 2023; FA - Outstanding Short Film – SciFi, Outstanding Screenplay – SciFi – Bill Prokopow, and Outstanding Creativity – SciFi. I know that I'm biased, but as a SciFi fan I'm quite comfortable saying that the most creative SciFi film is going to be the most creative film at the festival. Nothing beats SciFi for creativity. As I'm implying, Bill did not disappoint. The creative story of how Bill is reaching towards his goal of transitioning from musician and composer to filmmaker is well worth a listen! Are you getting enough deep sleep?   In this episode of the Longevity podcast, I am joined by Dr. Dan Cohen, a neurologist and sleep technology expert as he introduces a groundbreaking technology that could revolutionize how we approach sleep and stress management.    We discuss how this unique Soltec system differs from other sleep aids by actually supporting your brain's natural sleep cycles rather than just sedating you. We also dive into sleep's implications for stress reduction,  the impact of trauma on sleep, and the significance of restorative sleep for longevity.    Dr. Dan Cohen, MD, is a pioneering entrepreneur and innovator in the fields of medical technology and consumer health products. As the lead developer of brainwave monitors and sleep disorders diagnostic equipment, he revolutionized sleep analysis, enabling the growth of sleep labs from 300 to over 3,000 during the 1980s and 1990s. His creative marketing strategies, including conducting 400 radio interviews and enlisting over 150 NFL players, propelled the Breathe Right® nasal strip to widespread popularity and distribution in 40,000 US retail outlets. The conclusion of this series on dancefloors, electronic dance music, and house music examines how dancefloors offer space to imagine differently. The episode looks at how the synchronous movement and entrainment of bodies propels bodies to move closer, creating a sense of “thickening” that moves toward social cohesion. We look at the importance of utopian visions to peace and reconciliation work and how these visions may be both helpful and harmful. Finally, using a case study of Bjork, we look at how dancefloors offer an unraveling and unfolding that offers space for new ways of being. The Music & Peacebuilding Podcast is hosted by Kevin Shorner-Johnson at Elizabethtown College. The rhythm of life is a powerful thing and for those who study entrainment this is more than a fact. Entrainment is quite simply the rhythmic syncing of behaviour from the pendulum to the murmuration of Starlings and the schooling of fish. From a musical perspective it it the synchronisation of dance and the timing of musicians. As a collective inelegance all that exists perpetually searches for harmonious relationships.

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 4, 2024 is: zeitgeber • TSYTE-gay-ber • noun Zeitgeber refers to an environmental agent or event (such as the occurrence of light or dark) that provides the stimulus which sets or resets an organism's biological clock. // The ratio of daylight to darkness in the spring is an important zeitgeber that affects the activity of some migrating birds. See the entry > Examples: “Which digital rhythms are we actively following because they make us feel good, and which are we entrained to? Entrainment, a term that originated in biology and then spread to the social sciences, refers to the alignment of an organism's physiology or behavior with a cycle; the most familiar example would be our circadian rhythm. The signal driving entrainment, in this case light and dark, is called a ‘zeitgeber' ...” — Jenny Odell, The New York Times, 8 Dec. 2022 Did you know? Zeitgebers are alarm clocks—both biologically and etymologically. The word zeitgeber comes from a combination of two German terms: Zeit, meaning “time,” and Geber, which means “giver.” In nature, zeitgebers tend to be cyclic or recurring patterns that help keep the body's circadian rhythms operating in an orderly way. For earthlings of all kinds, the daily pattern of light and darkness and the warmer and colder temperatures between day and night serve as zeitgebers, cues that keep organisms functioning on a regular schedule—consider how the changing ratio of day to night in spring serves as a trigger for critters such as birds and spring peepers to sing their mating songs. For humans, societally imposed cycles, such as the schedule of the work or school day and regular mealtimes, can become zeitgebers as well. What you sing is up to you, however.
