Welcome to Church Pew Sports Ep 177 - Shedeur Sanders - A Cautionary Tale from the NFL Draft In this episode of Church Pew Sports, we welcome a special guest—Bryce Johnson, host of the Unpackin It podcast and founder of a sports-faith ministry that's been impacting lives for over a decade. Bryce joins Bill and Paul to talk sports loyalties (yes, he's a Duke fan), ministry in the locker room, and how fantasy football can actually draw people closer to Christ. We dive deep into the 2025 NFL Draft, breaking down quarterback drama, the mystery of Shedeur Sanders' draft slide, and why NFL teams still struggle to evaluate talent correctly. Bryce The crew also talks about how NIL deals are changing the hunger levels of incoming NFL talent. This episode goes beyond Xs and Os—we explore how perception shapes opportunity, and why humility matters more than ever in sports and in faith. Bryce offers insights into living boldly for Christ even when it's uncomfortable, referencing moments from the draft that highlight how character can make or break an athlete's future. Plus: Mel Kiper hot takes, draft-night surprises, NBA replay frustrations, and why Seth Rollins announcing the Bears' pick was Paul's favorite moment of the weekend. Don't miss this conversation at the intersection of sports, faith, and culture—and hear how Bryce is helping fans unpack both the games they love and the gospel they need. They even go as far as picking up receipts from the mall to cover up their fraudulent actions. If I'm lying, they should sue me. – Former President of Techiman City FC, Charles Ntim (Mickey Charles)

Sports has a special place in so many of our hearts. We love the competitiveness, adrenaline, and passion that comes out of sports, but something that is undermined is how sports can be used for outreach, for finding friends (even a family), and the good that comes from playing with people that you may never meet otherwise. Today, we're talking about how we as Christian athletes can use the sports that we play and watch as a way of reaching out to people and using sports to relate with people within your community. Sports Ministry Enthusiast and Professional Speaker Duane Eger joins the show to talk about this intriguing, yet important topic, what he's learned about friendship through playing sports, and being inviting and inclusive with all who play sports. This week on the podcast, Jerry Lynch and John O'Sullivan answer some questions sent to us by our Patreon Podcast Champions. These are our biggest supporters, and we gave them the chance to ask us anything. The most popular type of questions revolved around some recent topics, including: using physical exercise as punishment do we need a national sports governing body in the US? If my club or school does not align with my values when I am coaching, should I leave? How do we improve grassroots coaching, and what should we teach them first? “What starts here changes the world” -The University of Texas On today's show I sat down with Ashley Minor, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Representative at The University of Texas. Ashley and I talked about all of my favorite things, Jesus, football, and the Longhorns. If you are a college student, have children in college or you're not in the college world at all, there is something for you in this episode. Ashley talks about the pressure student-athletes face and how she brings the gospel into their world. She also shares her testimony - how she came to know Christ through FCA and how God said to her, “You will work with FCA”. When she heard the call, she immediately changed her major to Sports Ministry. Ashley recently started her own podcast, Come Like A Child where she talks about, desiring more while in the waiting. If you know anything about Texas, you know their famous slogan, “What starts here changes the world”. While Texas may say those words for many reasons, Ashley says them from a spiritual view, every faith seed planted at UT will one day change the world. Press play, laugh with us, and be encouraged on your faith journey.Connect with JamieFacebook // Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE
