Actor, writer, activist and Brooklynite Gbenga Akinnagbe joins us to discuss his career and his latest offscreen role: Working to save a 140-year-old living landmark in Bed-Stuy, a magnolia tree that has survived and thrived in the least likely place. Today its very existence is in peril — as is the environmental community center that was established around it in 1977. Akinnagbe is perhaps best known for his role as Chris Parlow, the terrifying assassin on HBO's “The Wire.” He can currently be seen in FX's “The Old Man” as a hit man sent to kill a former CIA operative played by Jeff Bridges. He also played Tom Robinson in Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird." Renaissance man is an understatement when it comes to Gbenga Akinnagbe! He makes us all look lazy. Best known for his roles in “The Wire” and “The Deuce”, Gbenga is currently starring on Broadway in “To Kill A Mockingbird”. He also owns a line of vintage and repurposed furniture and a social activism lifestyle clothing brand. Oh, he writes and directs too. And rides his bike from Brooklyn to Times Square for his 8 shows a week!  But we love him most for his kind, warm soul. 

Gbenga Akinnagbe played the evil henchman Chris on The Wire and is now on Broadway playing the wrongfully-arrested doomed defendant Tom Robinson in To Kill A Mockingbird. Gbenga Akinnagbe (pronounced phonetically as Benga Akinabee) joins host Robin Milling to talk about his turn as Agent Matthew Travis to President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) in Independence Day: Resurgence. His background is perfectly suited for the role as he tells Robin there was a time when he actually was interested in becoming President of the United States.
