SLEEP NO MORE is a Los Angeles-set neo noir crime thriller, combining grit and atmospheric style, occasional comic desperation and an inspired literary bent. As the 2014 film, director Antonia Bogdanovich's debut feature, neared its 10th anniversary, she wanted to revisit the film, a New York Times Critic's Pick (originally distributed as Phantom Halo), with a goal of releasing the version that she originally envisioned. So, as a tribute to her late father, multi-hyphenate Peter (who also executive produced), she set to work to produce SLEEP NO MORE: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT.Warren Emerson (Sebastian Roché, Queen of Tears, 1923, Big Sky, The Man in the High Castle) once a Shakespearian thespian of renown, is now a gambling-addicted drunk. Puck-like Samuel (Thomas Brodie-Sangster, The Artful Dodger, The Maze Runner series, The Queen's Gambit, Godless) enchants crowds on Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade reciting Shakespearian monologues his father all but beat into him while his brother Beckett (Luke Kleintank, FBI: International, Midway, The Man in the High Castle), a master pickpocket, makes his way through the unsuspecting crowd. When Warren gets in deep with a vicious loan shark (Gbenga Akinnagbe, Power Book II: Ghost, Asphalt City, Wu-Tang: An American Saga), his sons need to find a way to escape and like Samuel's beloved comic book hero, Phantom Halo, they must break free of the "mud" that traps them. There is counterfeit money, a Bentley, a beautiful woman, knives, guns and an ending that is more like a Shakespearean tragedy then a film about growing up in the urban decay of Hollywood. Rebecca Romijn (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Librarians, X-Men), Tobin Bell (The Saw series, The Flash), Ashley Hamilton (Gothic Harvest, Rules Don't Apply) and Jordan Dunn (Read the Room) co-star.Here's the trailer:Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6372BGFFuo Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Actor, writer, activist and Brooklynite Gbenga Akinnagbe joins us to discuss his career and his latest offscreen role: Working to save a 140-year-old living landmark in Bed-Stuy, a magnolia tree that has survived and thrived in the least likely place. Today its very existence is in peril — as is the environmental community center that was established around it in 1977. Akinnagbe is perhaps best known for his role as Chris Parlow, the terrifying assassin on HBO's “The Wire.” He can currently be seen in FX's “The Old Man” as a hit man sent to kill a former CIA operative played by Jeff Bridges. He also played Tom Robinson in Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird." It's 'Part Two' this week's @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ and this time, we bring you three vastly different, BUT, very good films!, Starting on Apple TV+ with a story of friendship from the future, then it's over to Netflix for a book adaptation that hits a racial & cultural nerve. And then, what could be this generation's 'Love Jones'! 'Finch' is a new dystopian feature on Apple TV+, directed by Miguel Sapochnik and written by Craig Luck & Ivor Powell. On a post-apocalyptic earth, Tom Hanks is Finch, a man who embarks on a moving and powerful journey to find a new home for his unlikely family—his beloved dog and a newly created robot—in a dangerous and ravaged world. Rebecca Hall adapts ‘Passing', Nella Larsen's celebrated 1929 novel of the same name for the big screen! It tells the story of two Black women, Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Ruth Negga), who can “pass” as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in late 1920s New York. After a chance encounter reunites the former childhood friends one summer afternoon, Irene reluctantly allows Clare into her home, where she ingratiates herself to Irene's husband (André Holland) and family, and soon her larger social circle as well. As their lives become more deeply intertwined, Irene finds her once-steady existence upended by Clare. 'Really Love' is directed by Angel Kristi Williams and co-written by Felicia Pride. Set in contemporary Washington D.C., a rising black painter, Isaiah (Kofi Siriboe) strives to break into the competitive art world, while balancing a bittersweet romance he never expected with a strong & ambitious law student, Stevie (Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing) with her own dreams, aspirations, and desires. Renaissance man is an understatement when it comes to Gbenga Akinnagbe! He makes us all look lazy. Best known for his roles in “The Wire” and “The Deuce”, Gbenga is currently starring on Broadway in “To Kill A Mockingbird”. He also owns a line of vintage and repurposed furniture and a social activism lifestyle clothing brand. Oh, he writes and directs too. And rides his bike from Brooklyn to Times Square for his 8 shows a week!  But we love him most for his kind, warm soul.
