SLEEP NO MORE is a Los Angeles neo noir crime thriller directed by Antonia Boganovich, and Executive Produced by Peter Bogdanovich. Warren, once a master Shakespearian actor, is now a gambling drunk. Puck-like Samuel enchants crowds on the 3rd Street Promenade, reciting Shakespeare. And brother Beckett, a master pickpocket, makes his way through the unsuspecting crowd. When Warren gets in deep with a loan shark, his sons need to find a way to escape and like Samuel's beloved comic book hero, Phantom Halo, they must break free of the mud that traps them. There is counterfeit money, a Bentley, a beautiful woman, knives, guns and an ending that is more like a Shakespearean tragedy than a film about growing up in the urban decay of Hollywood. Featuring a cast that includes; Sebastian Roché, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Luke Kleintank, Rebecca Romijn (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Librarians, X-Men), Tobin Bell (The Saw series, The Flash), Ashley Hamilton (Gothic Harvest, Rules Don't Apply) and Jordan Dunn (Read the Room). Director and co-screenwriter Antonia Bogdanovich joins us for a revealing conversation about the traumatic origin story for Sleep No More, working with her dad on the project, her decision to re-cut and re-release the film after nearly 10 years, and growing up in a household steeped in arts, literature and film. I remember the first time I ever looked at a drivers education manual… it was kind of overwhelming.  There are some big obvious things to learn, like speed limit, passing on the left, and moving over for emergency vehicles, among other things.  But there are hundreds of very intricate rules that just seem impossible to remember, and many that are often different from state to state.  As with every long-standing practice, traditions and rules around driving evolve, and they have been for decades as cars and highways have changed.  Alongside those traditions are often myths and urban legends, dating back to who knows when, including this gem.  I would always hear people say that if you come to a “Stop” sign that has a white ring around the edge, it was OPTIONAL.  Stop signs are stop signs, regardless of whether or not they have a white border.  Saying a stop sign is optional, when we know the law says it isn't, is almost like saying, “The Rules Don't Apply to Me”.  If we disobey a simple rule like that one, what other things do we feel don't apply to us too?  What other “rules” or standards do we feel are optional or don't have to be followed all of the time? This week, I talk about the importance of living our best life by being our best - not by being perfect, but by being our best example to the world.

*Programing Note, this edition of the BetFred Sports Doc Talk podcast was recorded before Casey Thompson was named the starting quarterback. And before Scott Frost claimed the offensive line has been puking a lot in practice because they have been working so hard. Also, we swear on this podcast. If you don't like swear words, don't listen.  We are a week away from the season opener—Nebraska vs. Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland. The Husker will head across the pond on Monday to acclimate to the time change and the surroundings.  On this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice dive into the opponent. Northwestern has been a roller coaster as of late. First place, last place, first place, last place. Is this year the Wildcats start heading back uphill? To find out, we welcome Louie Vaccher to the podcast. Louie is a Northwestern graduate and runs the Wildcat Report, part of the Rivals Network.  Last year, Nebraska steamrolled Northwestern 56-7. Louie is not expecting the same outcome in Dublin. For that to be true, the Wildcats need to find consistent quarterback play, not turn the ball over and see tremendous improvement on the defensive side of the ball, especially when it comes to giving up points, something Northwestern did a lot of last season.  Louie gets a lot of Nebraska in his house. Find out his Big Red connection and what is on the line every time the Huskers and Cats play.  The Big Ten Conference has a new TV deal. Seven years, $ 8 billion. Yes, that's with a B! By the end of the contract, schools will be getting close to $100 million yearly in media rights money. That's insane cash and shows you how much there is to go around. So get ready to watch games on FOX, CBS, NBC, and Peacock. Some are concerned about no conference games on ABC or ESPN. Should they be? Dr. Rob and Travis discuss.  The Doc Talk Podcast is going live! We will be at Kros Strain Brewing in La Vista on Tuesday, August 23. Setting up around 6:30 and going live at 7:00. Izzy's Pizza bus will be there to serve food. And how about the beer specials? $5 pours of Rules Don't Apply hefeweizen and Tippy Cup low cal, low carb light lager! We had the pleasure of interviewing Life on Planets over Zoom video! House music has seen a reinvigoration in recent years via progressive creatives seeking to fuse classic disco, soul, funk and R&B with modern electronic sensibilities meant to relate to dance floors everywhere. At the forefront, artists like Walker & Royce have strove to lead this diverting wave of music via their label Rules Don't Apply. For its latest release, the imprint joins forces with true-blue creative Life on Planets. Explore wayfaring creativity and full-fledged euphoria via the Nomad Lyfe EP, out NOW. Nomad Lyfe is a two-sided EP featuring vocal led, dynamic dancefloor tracks. The project leads with the title track, which opens behind funky, static basslines. “Don't know where I'm about to stay tonight - all I know is Imma be alright” sets the tone for a DIY adventure in sound and intention. The lyrics proffers listeners to find independence in living their “Nomad Lyfe,” paralleled by freewheeling creativity experienced in the production. “UDidIt2Urself” is the B-side track on the EP - where fans will find more R&B-enthused production accented by melodic elements and dazzling arps. The project was written in Baltimore - Life was living in an old row-house run by art collective, The Holy Underground. Paired with samples and virtual synthes, the producer used pitched down guitar and vocals recorded in his bedroom to create the final product. Ep 18 Boundaries part 4 - When the Rules Don't Apply There are certain relationships in which the "Boundary Rules" don't apply. These relationships do not follow normal interactions. They are usually with narcissists - though this podcast does not attempt to diagnose, there are behaviors that are observable and we are able to make choices for our safety and empowerment.  ** This is an excerpt from the book "Boundary Boss" by Terri Cole - Terri has done such a great job synthesizing and making this information understandable. In episodes 14 & 15 we talked about how exhausting bad boundaries are, and questions we can ask to understand our family of origin triggers and to see if we are living in our authenticity. We then had a bit of Boundary Making 101 as we talked about recognizing categories and types of boundaries, codependency, communication and your personal boundary blueprint. (The term boundary blueprint is from Terri Cole's book Boundary Boss) Finishing up with a tool from Gabor Mate called Compassionate Inquiry. We continued the discussion in Ep 17 on boundaries by looking within, noticing how you feel and what is going on for you as we begin getting ready to make healthy boundaries, concluding with Don Miguel Ruiz's Four Agreements.  Hello and welcome to the Goddess Archetype Code podcast with your host, Erica Randolph, an intuitive guide, and licensed trauma therapist. I use myths, music, and meditation to support emotional healing and help you regain a sense of your personal power. I stand for connecting you to your feminine empowerment through radical self love to change the world.*. *Disclaimer, this is not intended as therapy.

This week we have the talented Sara Biv on the podcast. Sara is a touring dancer who has worked with artists such as Miley Cyrus, Cardi B, and Major Lazer. In addition to touring as a dancer, Sarah is also a choreographer when she is off the road in LA. I initially met Sara when I was touring with Major Lazer. We knew each other from touring but had never really sat down and had a conversation. I knew I was going to learn a lot from her (because let's be honest I know nothing about being a dancer on tour other than the fact it is physically demanding) but damn, she taught me so much. Not just what she does - but how she does it, and her mindset. It was a very inspirational interview and I hope anyone who has any intention of making it in the touring world gives this one a listen. Thank you Sara! In this episode of the Don't Shit On The Bus podcast we will learn: • Life skills Sara developed on the road • Letting others know you're available for work • How crucial it is to be mentally and physically healthy on tour • How Sara was able to become a choreographer for touring artists (00:00) Intro (04:30) Sara gets on the bus (07:25) When Sara started dancing (13:55) How Sara started working in the music industry (19:57) Coming back from tour and having no gigs (21:33) Sara building choreography into her career (23:15) Touring with Miley Cyrus, Cardi B, and Major Lazer (34:37) How Sara deals with rejection because of her height (35:21) Sara's touring experience (39:55) An average day on the road with Major Lazer (44:56) How Sara maintains her mental and physical strength (47:45) What Diplo taught Sara (51:06) Before show routine (53:40) Eminem Story (55:53) How Sara improves after a show (59:12) Wrap up notes (59:18) Shower Shoes --- Sara Biv - Guest ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarabiv/ ► TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sarabiv7? ► Rules Don't Apply: https://rulesdontapply.world/ --- Don't Shit On The Bus Podcast ► Website: http://www.dontshitonthebus.com ► Spotify: http://bit.ly/DSotBspotify ► Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/DSotBapple ► TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dontshitonthebus ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/DSotBpodcast ► Instagram: https://instagram.com/DSotBpodcast ► Facebook: https://facebook.com/DSotBpodcast ► Patreon: https://patreon.com/DSotB --- Adam Elmakias - Host ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/elmakias ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elmakias ► Website: https://www.adamelmakias.com --- Edited & Produced by Connor Gaskey

With Charles Grodin's passing two weeks ago, an appreciation of his under-appreciated career can't neglect what is most inarguable his finest cinematic (two-)hour(s): Martin Brest's 1988 buddy comedy co-starring Grodin and Robert De Niro, in his first studio starring comedy role. Ted Haycraft and I are joined by the film's editor Billy Weber on this episode, which triples as not only an appreciation of the film, but also the careers of director Brest and Weber's. We discuss:- what childhood movie inspired Billy's only directed feature;- how his circuitous path through older editor's union rules led him to watching The Exorcist 150 times;- why helping a then-film student Brest while working in Taxi Driver's editing room didn't necessarily lead to future work;- but being rejected by a director for not having “box-office success” opened up his schedule to edit Beverly Hills Cop for Brest.Also:- why the film's centerpiece scene is the reunion might be the key to the genre “gumbo” that makes the film so rewatchable;- how Billy's interest in improv acting helped him blur the line between editing naturalistic and star-making performances;- the version of Brest's Gigli that was a good film before studio reshoots; - and how stupid it is that that film's questionable reputation has left Brest where “no one will take his calls.” This one's full of some great stories.Billy Weber is a two-time Oscar nominee entering his sixth decade editing features. He's worked on multiple films for such directors as Terrence Malick, Martin Brest, Walter Hill, Tony Scott, and Warren Beatty. His credits include, among others: Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Warriors, Beverly Hills Cop I and II, Top Gun, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, The Thin Red Line, Bulworth, Rules Don't Apply, and The Predator.Midnight Run is streaming on HBO Max and available on Blu-ray from Shout! Vance Walberg is the head coach of Clovis West's basketball team. Over the course of his long and distinguished career, he's thrived at high school, community college, Division 1 college, and NBA levels. Coach Walberg is highly-regarded by coaches across the country, and in creating and generously sharing the dribble-drive offense, is known as one of the best innovators of the modern basketball era. In this SGG episode, we discussed: 1. The impact of growing up as the middle child in a household with six boys. 2. Getting cut multiple times in sports as a middle schooler… and always bouncing back, ultimately becoming the top player in the league. 3. His wife Rose's impact on his career as a coach. 4. The 6:30am shooting opportunity that he presented to his teams: Going from 2 to 40 “everyday” kids in developing a hard-working program. 5. Chris Hernandez. “When your best player is your hardest worker, you're in for a special season. 6. Why his teams don't shoot free throws or have water breaks during practice. 7. The long-term dividends of Chris' “10,000 free throw summers” – and the thank-you call he placed after a big Stanford victory. 8. His open-door policy with parents – including at practice. “Come by and see how hard your son works.” Rules: “Don't come see me right after a game (24-hour rule). Don't ask me to compare your son to another player.” 9. His daughter as a coach at the cross-town rival school. 10. The importance of his family in his life – and the way he prioritizes his role as a husband and dad above basketball. 11. “Getting my team to be 2, 3, 4 points better the following year.” 12. His purposeful commitment to learning and innovation, including the 1987 deal he struck with his athletic director that allowed him to learn from the best coaches in the country. 13. “Seeing the game through angles.” 14. Gaining ideas from other coaches – including what not to do. 15. Giving back to the game by sharing ideas with the thousands of coaches who contact him. 16. Working with George Karl and John Welch.

Roscoe and Gary feel on the cusp of stardom and celebrity as they record Episode 48 in time for the holidays. Basking in the great feedback and listener response to our Charna Halpern interview on the last episode, the boys dream of Booth One seating at the great establishments of the world, particularly the Old Ebbett Grill in Washington, DC, where the shellfish is always fresh and the oysters are always briny and cold. We announce the winner of our Hamilton ticket raffle - that lucky someone who will accompany Gary and Roscoe to the Chicago production on Dec. 4. And the winner is......Fran Bernstein, long-time friend and fan of the show! Congratulations, Fran. We'll see you at the PrivateBank Theatre on the aisle! And don't forget we have the VIP Experience before curtain and at intermission. How Booth One of us.... Gary and Roscoe take a tour of the current Broadway season, noting that the aforementioned Hamilton grossed $3.3M last week, the most money ever made in a single week by a Broadway show. Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 also cleared the $1M mark (much to Roscoe's consternation), joining the ranks of The Lion King, Wicked and Aladdin. Another new Broadway show, Heisenberg, prompts Roscoe to share one of his great unpleasant theater-going experiences of all time. Hint: It involves a faulty hearing device and a Wednesday matinee crowd. And tickets for Sally Field in The Glass Menagerie appear to be selling briskly for a March opening. Lost footage of a filmed version of this play from the 1960's starring Shirley Booth of Hazel fame and Hal Holbrook will be aired on Turner Classic Movies during December. Gary went to the circus again. For the first time in 134 years without elephants. But it's still an experience not to be missed. Booth One tip: Sit as close as you can without being in the front row. It's worth it for the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd. As well as the snarling of the lions and tigers. Here's an image of Gary in his souvenir pachyderm hat! On a related note, Elephant Polo will now be disbanded in Nepal in the continuing and important efforts for elephant conservation and welfare. Though widely known for it's humane treatment of the animals since 1982, a spokesperson for the International Elephant Polo Championships said, "We've always been ahead of the game in the way we treat our elephants, but we prefer our elephants to remain as elephants, and elephant polo is hardly that." Live long and prosper, you great giants of the jungle. It's been a stellar season for great movies, but we rue the fact that many of the smaller films come and go so quickly in Chicago to make room for the holiday blockbusters. Some films we wish stayed around longer so we could see them are Moonlight, Loving, Birth of a Nation and Inferno. Roscoe mourns for Warren Beatty and his new film Rules Don't Apply, which received mixed notices but can only be seen at 10:00am at one theater in the city. And has per screen grosses in only the hundreds of dollars. Sad. It's A Wonderful Life has always been one of Gary's favorite films, and this holiday season he visited the Live in Chicago version presented by American Blues Theatre. It's a clever, well-produced, and highly entertaining piece of theatre, and Gary recommends it as a perennial must-see. To give our listeners a flavor of the presentation and the high quality of the actors involved, we've inserted a few excerpts from the production, courtesy of the American Blues Theatre publicist and friend of the show, Cathy Taylor. You'll hear George Bailey, Bert & Ernie, Mary Bailey, Mr. Potter, and the unique talents of a great Foley artist. If this doesn't put you in the holiday spirit, we don't know what will. Another installment of Remembering Roscoe highlights the life of Howard Johnson, graduate of Monticello High School in 1912. A true story of triumph of the human spirit. Inspiring, moving, and a story worth remembering.

A veritable legend visits “Happy Sad Confused” this week.  The story of American moviemaking and celebrity in the 20th century would be woefully incomplete without a chapter devoted to Warren Beatty. He’s counted John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan as friends. He was trained by Stella Adler, discovered by Elia Kazan, battled with studio heads, flirted with running for public office, and was perhaps the last person to see Marilyn Monroe alive. Beatty is a delightful set of contradictions. He’s a charming storyteller who hasn’t done interviews in nearly 20 years. He’s a self-admitted control freak who talks endlessly about how much he values collaboration. He’s a quintessential hunky leading man with the soul of a comedian. Beatty is back in the public eye with “Rules Don’t Apply” (out November 23rd), a dramedy set in the waning days of the studio system and just as the sexual revolution was about to transform America.  The film stars Beatty as Howard Hughes alongside Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich. This chat goes everywhere, from Beatty’s uneasy relationship with celebrity, why he turned down such classics as “The Godfather”, “Kill Bill”, “Boogie Nights” and “Superman”, to his take on the state of politics and the film business today.
