On this episode, we discuss the tenth prompt in the Books and Bites 2022 Reading Challenge, read a manga! Manga are comics or graphic novels that began in Japan. Since you read them from right to left instead of left to right, they can be challenging at first. But thanks to the wide variety of subject matter, you should be able to find something you'll enjoy. Book Notes Michael recommends Remina by Junji Ito. Carrie recommends She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai and Tsubasa Yamaguchi. Carrie also seconds former Books and Bites co-host Adam's recommendation of Dragon Goes House-hunting by Kawo Tanuki and Choco Aya. Jacqueline recommends Fairytail Vol. 1 by Hiro Mashima. Bite Notes A refreshing pint of Hitachino Nest White Ale nicely juxtaposes with the madness and chaos of Junji Ito's Remina. Pair She and Her Cat with a big bowl of Sapporo Soup Curry from the book Japanese Soul Cooking by Tadashi Ono. A bowl of ramen would complement Fairytale, whose character Natsu has a hearty appetite. Try this Quick Homemade Ramen from Pinch of Yum.

What's good? Simulcast info News: Crunchy made every first episode of new shows this season free to watch in 1080p with no ads. Makoto Shinkai His passion for his work stems from the manga, anime and novels he saw in middle school. His favorite anime is Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki. Some people call him “The New Miyazaki”. Shinkai worked at a video game company called Falcom from 1994-2001 where he made video clips for games. During his time at Falcom, Shinkai met Tenmon, who scores a lot of Shinkai's current films. In 1999, Makoto Shinkai released She and Her Cat winning several awards. In 2001, Mangazoo gave Shinkai a grant to turn his drawing of a girl in a cockpit grasping a cellphone into an anime. This opened up the possibility for Shinkai to create many more films. What's good? News Makoto Shinkai's new film entitled “your name” will premier at Anime Expo on July 3rd. His previous works include, “She and Her Cat”, “Voices of a Distant Star”, “5 Centimeters Per Second”, and “Garden of Words”. your name is about a girl, Mitsuha. in high school who lives in a little mountain town whose father is the mayor. She has an honest personality and doesn't approve of her father's election campaign or the customs of her family's Shinto shrine. (Shinto is a religion of the people of Japan. It focuses on ritual practices to be carried out diligently, to establish a connection between present-day Japan and its ancient past.) Mitsuha yearns for a life in Tokyo where Taki, a boy in high school, lives. Mitsuha has a dream where she is a boy in Tokyo, and Taki has a dream where he is a rural mountain girl. Shonen Jump revealed a listing for My Hero Academia Season 2, which will tell the story of the “sports festival” arc. Anime Expo sent an e-mail stating “Hulu returns to Anime Expo with a stunning VR Demo, a manga wall photo booth, and up to 100 special collector giveaways per day, Hulu is staking its claim at AX 2016 as your go-to streaming destination.” School Tanaka-Kun is Always Listless- Silver Link (Kokoro Connect, Non Non Biyori) Azumanga Daioh- J.C. The 14 contributors to this insubstantial anthology, most of whom lack science fiction publishing credentials, bypass focused extrapolation in favor of satire surrealism, and vaguely hinted catastrophes. The best of the lot is Chris Niles's "Sin's Last Stand," in which Las Vegas is finally overwhelmed by the tyranny of the religious right, sort of like The Handmaid's Tale condensed to 12 pages. Felicia Campbell's "4/18" destroys Vegas with a mysterious toxin that freezes gamblers, revelers, and debauchees in place forever. Vu Tran's "Kubla Khan" is genuinely haunting, and there is even a parody of Harlan Ellison in C.J. Mosher's "A Girl and Her Cat," but longtime SF readers looking for a richness of ideas won't find it here. This is an interesting and important book. It blends serious literary intentions with what have been typically called genre concerns to make a collection that really speaks to contemporary fears in our culture.
