In the CrossFit world of athletic fitness, a WOD is a “Workout of the Day.” A "Hero WOD" is an amped up version of a WOD. It's a commemorative workout that honors a fallen hero. Performing a “Hero WOD” is a wonderful way to the describe the daily Christian life. It's intense, it's difficult, it's sweat-inducing, and it is all done to honor the Ultimate Hero, Jesus Christ. This message emphasizes the athletic dimensionality of the Christian experience—pointing to the exercise of prayer as one of the chief ways the Christian can honor “The Fallen and Resurrected Hero” and change the world while they are doing it.

Today I'm talking to Jedidiah Snelson, a former Pro Motocross racer and trainer to action sports athletes. When it comes to sports like motocross and CrossFit, Jedidiah says the training can be very similar between the two; enduring a 35 race is a bit like a long Hero WOD. After an accident left him paralyzed, Jedidiah turned to CrossFit for an athletic and competitive outlet. Quickly, he became a top Adaptive Athlete in the Seated division and is still elite as he nears his mid-40s. We cover a lot of ground in this episode, and I hope you enjoy!

PART 2BECOMING THE PROTAGONIST. Dr. Joshua Appel recalls his journey to becoming an elite PJ in the Air Force, his path to becoming an ER doctor, his connection to the Murph Challenge, and the incredible rescue of Lone Survivor Marcus Lutrell. About Josh: Appel served active duty from 1994-99 as a pararescue specialist in emergency medical tactics, as well as combat and survival skills, continuing on with the United States Air Force Combat Search and Rescue Squadron as a reservist throughout medical school. The rescue team that recovered the lone survivor, Marcus Luttrell, was led by Appel.Josh and the MURPH (from the Fit at Midlife site): Hero WOD's are usually programmed and set up in gyms, and it is a great opportunity to commemorate these heroes to instill and retell the stories of heroism and sacrifice. Murph was first registered on CrossFit's Main Site on August 18th, 2005. No one can tell when exactly it became a tradition for gyms to program Murph on Memorial Day. But in 2007, Josh Appel, an Air Force pararescue jumper who headed the team that jumped to save LT. Murphy's team, took the concept to his gym, Albany CrossFit, and the rest of the CrossFit community did the same. Ten years later, it's an honorable tradition for gyms to close on Memorial Day, working only Murph as their workout, often accompanied by a barbecue or other community bonding event. #lonesurvivor #murphchallenge #becomingtheprotagonistSupport the show

Veterans Day 2021 Hit Us Different As We grew up in School we always had the Remembrance day events, the moment of Silence and we always had Vets themselves come to the school to be part of this day. As a kid it was what it was and we showed our respects. As we all grow up and hit University or go to jobs we try to have the moment of silence at 11:11 and still show our respects. As a brand that lives and breaths Cross-fit we all in this community know that we show up and represent for the Fire Department, Police, the Military and our Vets. We always rock what we call HERO WODS. It's a big part of the lifestyle and the mentality of this community. He have however noticed the last few years that a lot of places now close on this day, the day we are needed most to show up and represent and pay or dues and respect. For us here at RAVEN we felt this urge to stand up even harder for the soldiers and the Vets to show our respect, and this year it got very emotional for us during our HERO WOD. It was an honour for us to be able to show up and for that we are forever thankful www.raven425.com

A Hero WOD is a workout dedicated to a person or group of people who died serving their country in the military, police, fire, or first responder. You want to come into the week with a plan on how to approach each workout in order to stay safe and have a good time.
