I started thinking about why I've had such a hard time doing the podcast lately. Even when I actually sit and record episodes (I swear I have like 5 episodes recorded) I just feel a mental block where I don't want to use them and instead just avoid posting them and forgetting about them instead. I realized I've been in a super avoidant place where I just would rather not, with so many things, even the things I ENJOY like anime! www.becomingmiriam.com IG: @becomingmiriampodcast
It's the end of June, my kids are out of school and the lazy days of summer are laid out before us. I used to pack our summers with outings and activities because it was hard being home all together. But as my kids have gotten older and more independent and I've learned the value of doing less as a parent, I now look forward to quiet days where the biggest question on our mind is what's for lunch. So in summer I pause. I move slow. I play. I appreciate. I enJOY. Which is why after this week's episode of the “Good Enough Parenting” podcast I'll be on summer break. I have LOVED sharing my thoughts, guidance and parenting mistakes with you this past year. I'm honored that you've read my words, listened to my voice and told me how the ideas I've imparted have resonated with you and sometimes inspired change. But I practice what I preach. Slowing things down, pausing, and taking care o myself. I might pop in with a message here or there to tell you any insights I'm gathering, but for the most part I'll be savoring summer. I'm ending season 1 with a personal story of how my own journey led me to become a good enough parent. And how what my family went through planted the seeds of the podcast. It's a bit vulnerable and scary to share my story so candidly. But I know the good enough parents out there will take it in with open minds and open hearts. Which is exactly what our kids need from us. Grace, compassion, love, wonder, curiosity and patience. If we could all show these gifts to our children and ourselves, that would be good enough. Have the sweetest summer. EP239 New Show Announced Hook: I totally let you down. And I let myself down. But I'm back and ready to rock. I'll explain everything in this episode. Welcome: Say Something Exciting What is Happening: We are completely revamping, rebranding, and restructuring our Show. And I am SO excited. What To Expect: Short. Binge Worthy Tactical & Implementable Strategies for your summits. 3 Episodes a week. Two 10-Minute Tactical Sessions of yours truly picking a summit problem, challenge or strategy and bringing that information to you in a concise and easy to consume format. Plus each week we will dip back into our Summit Vault and pull out one of the top episodes from the past 3 years. No more long, boring, drawn out interviews. I get it. I'm as burnt out as you are on them. They were great for a while. But after 230 interviews they started to sound all the same. The Story: I'll fill you in on the story. Earlier this year I was sitting with my team and I told them the truth. I said, “I really don't want to keep doing the podcast anymore.” It feels like I'm forcing myself to do something I really don't want to do, and that is not in alignment with my values or work ethic. So we pondered, hard about canceling the show. It had been a great run, and had brought us a lot of great benefits over the past 3.5 years of hosting it. After thinking on it for a few weeks, I came to the realization, it's not the Podcast I don't love, it's the format. I realized I was tired of doing interviews about the same topic, and trying to come up with a different story each time. The people were great of course, it was just there really isn't a need for more interviews on summits. When we started we were the ONLY podcast on this topic. Since then we've had a lot of imitators, and copy cats come up and run similar shows, take our content, and even our terminology and use it as their own. So I decided if we are going to keep going forward we are going to do something different. Something that I ENJOY. Something fun. The next step was I reached out to my great friend, John Lee Dumas, the host of Entrepreneurs On Fire. I had him come out here to my house and we had one of our famous “pool sessions” where we talk life, business, philosophy, and everything in between. I told him my situation, and said, “what do you think”. He took a few moments to think about it, and he said, “I think you are right”. People don't need more interviews, and that's probably not what they want from you.” He said, “if it were me, here is exactly what I would do”. And he laid out the exact strategy that we are now implementing for you. I mean when JLD gives you advice on Podcasting, you listen. He didn't become one of the top podcast hosts, and shows on the planet for nothing. Details: With that said, I am excited to announce to you our new Podcast Show, “Virtual Summit Strategies” will be going live starting the first week in October. 3 Shows a Week. 2 Solo Implementation sessions & 1 Epic Vault Session. And every episode will have an EPIC Resource that you can access. The Goal of the Show is to give you the tips, tools, strategies and resources you need to host a bingeworthy, successful Virtual Summit. No cookie cutter, out of the box, boring, bombed summits. I'm going to be opinionated, and loud about those opinions, but as the worlds leading summit thought leader with more than 50 direct summits under my belt and hundreds of summits consulted on, and thousands of students coached, I know what works and what doesn't. And that's exactly what I'm going to give you. Links & RSS feed will all stay the same. You can still find us at Podcast.VirtualSummits.com and you can still reach us at Podcast@VirtualSummits.com My Promise To You: Now here's my promise to you. I'm going to stay consistent. I'm going to bring you valuable, implementable information and strategies for Virtual Summits. I'm not going to hold back. I'm not going to miss episodes, or release dates and I'm going to give you ALL my energy when doing it. It's going to be quality, fun, and beneficial information from this moment forward. It's also going to be honest, true and to the point. I'm not going to sugar coat it, and I'm not going to give you the “out of the box” same as everyone else style of summit. I'm going to help you build an empire, and get your voice out to the world by using a Virtual Summit. I still very much believe each and every one of you has a message that matters. And there is nothing more powerful to get that out quickly than a Virtual Summit. My Ask: With that being said, I'm going to ask you for something as well. I'm going to ask you to please Bear with me at the beginning and be patient as I find my new voice and flow. Provide Feedback. I need to know what you want to learn & hear. Please email us at Podcast@VirtualSummits.com and let us know what you want to hear. Share the show. You are apart of my team, and I need your help. I want to help people and I need your help to make that happen. Please share this show with at least one other person who is considering hosting a summit. Lastly, Leave a Positive 5-Star Written Review. Imagine this is your show, how much does this matter? It matters immensely. I read EVERY review and I reach out to each person who takes the time to support me by leaving a review. So please do that. Right now. Pause the episode and do it. It truly means a lot to me. And I'll know, because I read them. So that's it. That's what to expect. Starting from Episode 240 there will be 2 implementation episodes that will be 10 minutes or less, and an epic vault episode. Get ready, reach out, tell me your thoughts and let's rock this thing. Resource: For today's episode I have a pretty amazing resource. It's actually our Summitology training program. One of our main summit training courses for those who are considering whether or not to run a summit. It will help you work through the benefits, amount of time needed, what type of summit you want to run and how to get started. In honor of the new Rebrand of our Virtual Summit Strategies Podcast Show, I've decided to give this thousand dollar course away for free, for a limited time. You can access it right now at “FreeSummitCourse.com” Jump over and grab it now while it's still available for free. https://podcast.virtualsummits.com/239
This is the show you've been asking for. Many of you have asked about my personal and favorite skin care tips. As most of you know, I owned and operated a skin clinic/ wellness center for 16 years. I'm a skin care enthusiast. I'm consistently invested in learning what will help rejuvenate and preserve our skin naturally and safe. I'm the kind of woman that loves my foundation. I like to have a flawless looking palette when it comes to my skin. I'm also all about that concealer. I threw a party at my house in 2020 and was introduced to a skin care line that caught my attention, it is called ClearStem. After using clear stem for about 2 months, I noticed I was walking out of the house without make up (If you know me this is not something I do.) There was a clear improvement in my skin texture and overall color. Everything looked (and still looks) so much more even! I wanted to give these two ladies a huge HUG for the gift they gave me of even skin tone without caustic chemicals. I decided to invite Kayleigh and Danielle down to the studio to chat about their line and all of the juicy details that I NEEDED to know from them. I loved this conversation with Kayleigh and Danielle all about skin care tips, tricks and secrets. This round table talk about our struggles and triumphs with skin was so much fun and real. It will probably feel like you are sitting in our living room with us like a fly on the wall, as we spill our inner thoughts on skin. What is CLEARSTEM Skincare? It is a revolutionary skincare brand that is both Anti-Aging and Anti-Acne with zero hormones disruptors or toxins. The brand was founded in San Diego, CA by two women, Danielle Gronich (owner of the acclaimed San Diego Acne Clinic) & Kayleigh Christina (Holistic Nutritionist). The co-founders met when Kayleigh was suffering from severe cystic acne, searching for answers, and found San Diego Acne Clinic. The two bonded over their mutual passion for holistic skin health and whole-body wellness. After doing their due diligence and finding that existing products contained pore-clogging ingredients or toxic chemicals that disrupted hormones, they decided that their clients and the world deserved better. Together they began working with a world renowned cosmetic chemist developing a serum that helped reverse acne scars, regulate hormonal oil production, reduce redness and inflammation, and increase collagen & elasticity in the skin (now known as CELLRENEW). Danielle and Kayleigh decided to partner in 2017 to dedicate their lives and careers to create CLEARSTEM Skincare, and keep creating products that delivered positive change without sacrificing health. In addition to pioneering the all-new anti-aging and anti-acne skincare category, Danielle and Kayleigh created Ditch Your Acne Protocol which has trained thousands of estheticians and helped people ditch their acne, for good! Meet Danielle! She is the formulator and CEO of CLEARSTEM. Danielle's 10-year acne struggle was the impotence to her current reputation as The Acne Guru™. After three failed rounds of Accutane and multiple laser treatments Danielle decided to dive into clinical research and went back to school to find the answers to her acne for herself, earning her license as a clinical esthetician and acne specialist. She learned that acne has multiple triggers that operate in tandem and that thoroughly evaluating each case in a holistic way – both internal and external – is the only way to help truly manage skin. Danielle is a wealth of knowledge when is comes to skin care. Danielle's expertise and knowledge became real for me personally when I saw my skin start to transform. After using Clear Stem for 6 months consistently, I wear a LOT less make up. I don't feel I need it anymore. I like to show my bare skin because it glows. Meet Kayleigh Christina is the Co-Founder and COO of CLEARSTEM, a nontoxic anti-aging and anti-acne skincare line. As a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, published author, podcaster, and investor of wellness-based brands, Kayleigh has a deep passion for making a positive impact in other people's lives. Her journey into the skincare world began when she developed numerous health issues - a breast tumor and severe cystic acne in her mid-twenties - and tried in vain to find a cure. After countless doctors, dermatologists, and specialists, no one could figure out what was going on. That's when she took matters into her own hands and discovered San Diego Acne Clinic, where she met co-founder Danielle Gronich. Not only did her acne clear up, but through their sessions, the duo discovered their mutual passion for helping other acne sufferers achieve clear skin through internal and external methods without sacrificing their health. That's when CLEARSTEM Skincare was born. Kayleigh puts the play and fun back in skin care. Her magic touch in ClearStem to me is the playfulness of the brand. I ENJOY my ClearStem ritual. Trim Transformations Podcast: Sharing Women's Stories of Health, Weight-Loss, and Wellness.
Note from our guest, Lori Leeke: I am a 59yr old woman, NON-diabetic, who eats all foods, all macros, all available at any grocery store. I am at an all-time-low in my weight for my 5'5” frame: 129lbs. That's smack-dab in the middle of the Normal column on a BMI chart. Most of my meals focus on a single fuel: carbs or fats, based on what I feel like eating - no plan, no schedule to follow. If social circumstances don't allow for fuel separations, so be it; I can be flexible and eat what is available. Of greater importance than my bathroom scale number is the number on my glucose meter (https://youtu.be/4hC0kNOVb4g) and my ketone meter (https://amzn.to/33T1AJ9). My blood meters are my fuel gauges guiding me in my Data-Driven Fasting lifestyle (https://bit.ly/2XCRjAG). I ENJOY fasting times almost as much as I enjoy feasting times. Fasting saves me money, allows me more free time in my life, and offers me hope for aging well until God calls me into Eternity. Feasting lets me fill up to my heart's desire, eating whatever I feel like eating…which sometimes includes non-nourishing choices. During fasting, I am resting my digestion and cleaning up my arteries through autophagy (https://youtu.be/XswcZrzJYiM). During feasting, I am nourishing my body and satisfying my taste buds. My fasting & feasting lifestyle has been influenced by Trim Healthy Mama (http://amzn.to/2qAWy53), Delay, Don't Deny (https://amzn.to/2vIl98h), #DrBozRatio (https://youtu.be/FBovEjbiAOE), nephrologist Jason Fung (https://youtu.be/5r4ql0uBIOs), Type I's Cyrus Khambatta and Robby Barbaro (https://apple.co/2MQPqds), the how-to book Complete Guide to Fasting (https://amzn.to/2XUM8MR), and the absolutely amazing weight loss fight endured by Eve Mayer in Life in the Fasting Lane (https://amzn.to/2ZSQfKC). I made a video demonstrating testing for my insulin ratio while I was walking at my TreadDesk: https://youtu.be/PRNzORQ3YzQ. How many times have you looked around and wondered if you are running your business right? How many times have you looked at a competitor in your industry and questioned if their method works better – or even tried to copy it? Recently I got into a little mini tiff, debate, I don't know what to call it – let's just say a polite disagreement with another photographer online. This person was trying to argue that the way I do business is unrealistic and basically that I was wrong. There is some controversy in our industry surrounding different business models. There are people that offer cheap sessions where they show up, take pictures, put the pictures directly onto a flash drive, disk, etc. and give them to the client – this is called “shoot and burn”. There are photographers who do IPS or In Person Sales which is typically a higher ticket session where they pay a session fee and then have an in person (or these days over skype) meeting and choose prints, products and occasionally digital files that they want from their session. And then there is something of a hybrid in the middle which is where I fall. I offer predetermined packages that include the session as well as a set number of digital files (which are fully edited) and then they have the option to purchase more. There is typically no sales meeting, definitely no pressure on the client to purchase anything additional and it is a mid-range price. There are a million different ways that photographers organize their businesses but it usually falls into one of those 3 categories. Anyway, this person was trying to tell me that my business model wasn't sustainable, that clients wouldn't be happy because I was skipping out on the full service aspect of designing the art collections for their walls for them, and that I would be completely burned out because I'm doing too many sessions per year. That may all be true for them and their clients but it is clearly not true for me because I have been doing it happily and successfully with a huge number of repeat clients for YEARS, so I wanted to jump on today and remind you that you should ALWAYS being doing what works for YOU. Don't worry about what anyone else is doing – do what works for YOU! Here's the thing… when you are starting out or when you are struggling, it is really tempting to look around and start following exactly what the first successful person you see is doing. It might even work. Maybe. If you are similar people, with a similar ideal client, with similar strengths and similar weaknesses. You get the picture. It also might fail horribly because they are REALLY good at sales and you are still struggling in that area. Or they are fantastic on the phone, but you really prefer writing it in an email. Now if you were to take the time to really look around, instead of panicking and jumping on the first bandwagon that you see, you would see that there are lots of really successful people that are running their businesses in completely different ways. They will all have some things in common, like excellent customer service and a quality product, but there will be tons of things that are done completely different. The one thing that they will all have in common though is that they are doing what works for them and their business. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking inspiration from the way other people are doing things, in fact is it a great way to learn. I teach my students how I do things all the time. My advertising methods, my workflows, my customer service processes – all of it, I try to lay it out in a blue print that they can copy so that they can have the same success that I have – but I ALWAYS tell them that they need to take what works for them and throw out the rest. If something feels unnatural and isn't working, then see if you can find an equally effective way to accomplish the same thing. Take a minute and think about your business and the areas that you have success vs the areas that you are struggling. What are the areas that are hard for you? What is making it so hard? Is there a way that the same goal could be accomplished in a way that feels more natural or true to you? When I first started out one of the areas that was a huge struggle for me was calling clients, or calling other businesses or people in my area to network. I was super shy, I had major phone anxiety and it never seemed to work anyway. A) I would procrastinate all day or for multiple days and leave it way too long before I finally picked up the phone and b) when I did get on the phone I was nervous, and awkward. It didn't make people trust me as a phone call should, it probably made them think I was lacking confidence in my own work or wasn't trustworthy. And yet, you hear from people in business ALL THE TIME that you need to get your clients on the phone! Get them on the phone and start building a relationship before you ever talk pricing. Get them on the phone to build the “know like and trust factor”. Just get them on the phone and you will make the sale! For lots of people this is 100% true and good solid advice – in fact if you are not a phone person then I would suggest trying to get more comfortable speaking with people in real time. But to say that this is the only way to be successful in business, or the best way to communicate with clients? Not the case for people who are anxious and nervous on the phone. I say it all the time – people's BS meters are SO high now, they see right through it, and in a case where you are just having anxiety over the phone call itself it can trigger that meter to make them think that something is off even though it's really just that you are nervous. On top of it – if you really, really hate doing something then you are more likely to keep pushing it back and putting it off. Not great customer service when it is taking you longer than it should to return a phone call. People want quick responses, they want to know that you are attentive to your clients – and if you are in a saturated market then there is also a good chance that in the time it takes you to work up the nerve to call them back, they will already have hired someone else. So what did I do? I worked around it. Yes, I still had to make calls some of the time – but I also made it REALLY quick and easy for people to email me through the website instead. I also mentioned email as being an option on my answering machine and suggested that they contact me that way for the quickest response time. If I needed to network I would reach out via email, showing them that it was my preferred method of contact. When is felt appropriate I might also apologize when I stumbled over my words and just let them know straight up that I get a bit anxious on the phone. You might be surprised at how nice people are when you are willing to be honest and a bit vulnerable – and it would let them know WHY they might be picking up a strange vibe, instead of leaving them to assume that I was untrustworthy or didn't know what I was doing. I also practiced getting on the phone and talking to people. I wrote scripts for myself so that when I panicked or my mind went blank I could refer to them and read the answers to their questions. Because while I truly believe that you should do what works for you, I also believe that we should work on our weaknesses. Now I am completely fine with jumping on a call with a client, and chatting with them. I still prefer email – I like being able to refer back to what was said, and it is easier when there are kids running around, but with time I was able to work through the anxiety and by using what worked for me I was able to continue building my business successfully in the meantime. So what are the areas in your business that you struggle with? Is there something you could use as a work around until you can strengthen that weakness? Or maybe there is just a better way of doing it for you and your clients? Are you struggling to hit deadlines? Maybe you were following a higher volume business model but what you really need to do is take on less work at a higher price point. Are you terrible at sales? What if you created a streamlined process that took the actual selling out of your hands? Struggling to meet people and network? What about trying social media instead? There's always more than one way to tackle a job – find the one that works for you. I am confident that if I WANTED to do fewer sessions for a high ticket price as this other person was suggesting that I could do so successfully – but the beauty of being in business for yourself is that you get to CHOOSE. I ENJOY seeing many clients per month. I love snuggling their babies, I like chatting with people. I love doing mini sessions and having a weekend that is just packed with kids getting to see their familiar faces a few times year. I LOVE my business. I am willing to bet that this other person could say the same. She probably gets a thrill from seeing how high the sale goes, from planning out wall collections from her clients and working with only a few people a month which allows her to free up more time for other things, or to have a really intimate experience with her clients. I am also willing to bet that we are both successful as a result of the enjoyment we get from our own business and the way we do things. People are attracted to success and happiness. People are attracted to confidence. When you feel good about the way you are doing business, and confident in your methods and business model it shows, and it will draw people to you. Be authentic in your business. Enjoy running your business. Think about the needs of your clients and how you can really and truly fill those needs, and serve that client. These are the things that will help you build a business that thrives. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing – just make sure that you are doing what works for you, your family and your business. Make sure you are profitable, make sure that the workload isn't too much and do your thing. As a bonus, doing it your way will also set you apart in a saturated market. If we are all running around copying what the other people in our industry are doing then all of the businesses are going to look identical. Where does that leave the client when trying to choose who to work with? Honestly, if they are all identical then it's going to come down to price – and that's not an area I want to have to compete in. This applies to creation as well – not just the everyday management of the business or customer service and sales. When I first started out it was very trendy to be a natural light photographer. People were using their “natural light” studios as a selling feature in their advertising. It was so tempting to jump on that bandwagon, regardless of the fact that my studio was in a darkish basement and I far prefer working with predictable lights and soft boxes. These other photographers appeared to be doing really well for themselves, I was seeing this marketing everywhere about how great natural light was and for a second I almost jumped on the bandwagon. I'm glad that I didn't. I would have hated working with natural light indoors. I would have been super stressed every time it was overcast or cloudy and I would have loathed the inconsistency in my images as the light changed from session to session based on the time of day or weather. My work also would have looked just like everyone else's instead of staying true to the style that I had developed – the style that my clients hire me for an expect. The same thing happened when the editing style changed – everyone was adding these colour tints or filters to their images, giving them a moody, dark sort of feel. I was seeing it all over social media and started questioning if I should be following suit instead of sticking to my classic, light, airy, natural style. Again – that classic, light and airy, natural style is WHY my clients hire me. Why change it? If they wanted dark and moody, or coloured filters they would be going to a photographer that offered that, instead of coming to me. If I had followed suit then what would be setting me a part from those other photographers? The same goes for any industry. Find what works for you and stick with it. If we want McDonald's fries we go to McDonald's. If we are craving New York Fries then that's where we go. I don't know about you but if I went to McDonald's to get fries and suddenly they were serving thick fries with the skin on I would be confused, and quite frankly annoyed. Find your style. Find ways of doing business that work for you. Go above and beyond to serve your clients. It will set you apart, it will help your business thrive, and it will leave you feeling great while doing it.
Well folks, we figured it out. Singapore is socialism with extra steps! Just kidding, or am I? Enjoy.

A little personal diatribe about comparing yourself to others, impostor syndrome and shoulding all over yourself. HOST LINKS - SLADE ROBERSON Slade's Books & Courses Get an intuitive reading with Slade Automatic Intuition FACEBOOK GROUP Shift Your Spirits Community BECOME A PATRON https://www.patreon.com/shiftyourspirits Edit your pledge on Patreon TRANSCRIPT Slade: Have you been shoulding all over yourself? Are the voices playing in your head these days starting sentences with You should this ... or You should that… Or I should … You know, “I should …” feels a little better, a little more like you’re driving, you’re in control, it’s intentional … but beware the “I should probably …” Hmm. That “probably” … That’s external. That is not originating within you. And along with all the things you’re telling yourself you should be doing, if you do them, then it feels like you’re faking it. It feels like a mask. It feels like a white lie, at best. And if you’re supposed to be shining your light, then putting a mask over that dims it. It’s a shade. Impostor syndrome — who the F do you think you are, acting like you’re some kind of star. Nobody’s buying it. Look at so and so over there, look at HER instagram. She knows how to do it. She’s barely even trying. And now we’re into Comparisonitis. See, this malaise is actually sort of a cluster of mind virus cancer cells — it's comparisonitis and impostor syndrome (referred to in pharmaceutical commercials as IS) — and shoulding all over yourself. That's the big symptom. The past month or so, in my world, was difficult. In addition to all the typical holiday stuff and just having all your routines interrupted, my dad was also in the hospital. And although I should have had a lot of excuses and reasons to cut myself some slack, instead I just kept thinking of all the things that a "Real FB group host" would post. I kept being presented with the idea of things I was “supposed” to do or things I “ought” to do. It actually became a little ridiculous. Because I was aware of it, as a voice, as a program, playing in the background. Like a tv left on across the room. Somebody turn that shit OFF already! I thought I ought to be posting Solstice message, because I would prefer to acknowledge THAT among all the holidays that we're acknowledging during the holidays and I felt like I needed to let everyone know I'm down with solstice. And then of course, do I do a Christmas message? That's always kid of awkward for a non-Christian because we celebrate quasi-pagan American Christmas. I don't know. That's a conflict in and of itself. And then a New Years message. That's a huge one for personal development bloggers and self-help people like me. I saw all these happy new year messages in the Facebook community and I felt like as the administrator, the originator of our group, I “should” somehow beam in. I "should" somehow appear in a FB live video or something. I’m going to have to come back and do another post addressing goal setting and milestones and intentions and all that stuff, because it’s a topic unto itself, and it's a little bit too much of a tangent at this moment. These were the kinds of things that were crossing my mind when I say I was "shoulding" all over myself. Those were the detailed examples in the moment of how that was all manifesting. But the reality is, what I wanted to do during the Holidays, once the actual holidays hit and everyone was off doing all their stuff, I just wanted to RETREAT. Self care was definitely what was called for and I don't think anyone who looked in and took a peek at what was going on in my world and the lives of those close to me and my family and all that, I don't think anyone would have argued with me that, you know, you need to just be focused on some self care. But I felt like, in order to claim that, I had to REBEL. I sure as shit couldn't "phone it in" or go through the motions (because that’s IS for sure. Impostor syndrome. We're calling it IS now). By rebel I mean not “call in sick”, not apologize. I didn’t want to have to explain it or announce it or do a Facebook post about how I'm not going to be on Facebook. That annoys me. I just wanted to ghost. Aka the Irish goodbye, the French exit, and any number of other ethnophobic terms—which means leaving a social gathering without saying goodbye. One minute you’re there at the bar, the party ... And then the next minute you’re just gone. Where did he go? I’ve been practicing that for as long as I can remember. I know since childhood I can remember at least an elementary school age Halloween costume party of some type at some time when I ghosted. It required my mother's assistance because of course she was driving. But somehow I pulled off a ghosting. Leaving without anyone noticing is one of the components of invisibility magic, which is something that I can say that I'm good at, or that I enjoy practicing. I don't know that I ENJOY it. I think I had to learn how to do it for any number of reasons. I enjoy the fact that I'm good at it and it's kind of fun to watch the effects of good invisibility magic. I think, wow, it's cool that I can do that. I’ll talk about that another time too. But this idea of ghosting, the Irish goodbye, the French exit, my friends in college kind of probably hated that about me. I was known to do it. I let it be a THING I was known for, because then it was just a blank cheque. I could do it all the time. After college, friends always wanted to ride with me when we went out because I didn’t drink. I did designated driver on New Years Eve for, I can't even remember how many years. But I always used to say, “Alright. You can ride with me to the club, but I WILL disappear on you, so just be prepared… I'll get you there but you gotta figure out how you're getting home. Because I will disappear." Interestingly, when I think back to that, I realize what I REALLY wanted to be doing when I wanted to disappear from the club was the same thing that I wanted to be doing now when I disappeared from everything. I just wanted to be home, reading a book. And that's exactly what I did for New Years. Not New Years Eve. New Years Day. I actually prefer New Years Day so much that I just go to bed in preparation on New Years Eve of having a luscious New Years Day. My New Years Day's intentions were to really truly just take the day off, do nothing, but drink caffeine, coffee, tea, watch Netflix and read. And stay in my pajamas all day. It's HARD for me not to work at least a little bit every day. And I did end up working for about 10 minutes. Because it was a Tuesday, and I forgot to schedule everything, so I had to jump on Facebook and share a few links to my latest podcast episode — for the sake of my guest, really, more than for me. If it had been one of these solo episodes, I would've just been like, eh, I'll do it tomorrow. But I didn't want her to not get the full, you know, backing and sharing and promotion that her show deserves. By the way, just for the record, lying all around day in pajamas not doing anything … was depressing. It was physically depressing. It programmed my body in a way that was really uncomfortable to me and I don’t think that I'm ever going to even try that again. It honestly felt like being sick, but I wasn’t. And it kind of made me almost have symptoms of being tired, like feeling fatigue. And who wants that? Through all this, on New Years Day even, when I was really just intentionally ghosting everything. I kept thinking: Are the people in the SYS community wondering where I am? Do they realize I’m missing? Are they disappointed that I’m not putting some helpful something on their feed today? And I don't mean are they wondering where I am, do they miss me... like I wanted to be missed. It was more like, "Oh crap, I hope I can get away with this and that they really don't care." Because I really need this. And I feel like if I could've asked you all to vote, you probably would've said it's okay. And there were so many wonderful Happy New Year messages on there anyway. I would kind of look at them and scan once in awhile, oh those are nice! You know, whoever's in there looking for that is getting a lot of it. They don't need mine. It's just a drop in the bucket at this point. To tell you honestly, it sometimes feels like I’ve thrown a party on social media and then chosen to stay upstairs. Like I'm having a party in my house but I'm just hanging out in my bedroom with my cats because social media for me has always been a necessity of my business more than a real kind of personal impulse. My personal impulse is always to ghost. I don't know. Did you guys criticize my absence? Did you think, “Wow. What a lousy leader he is…” Or did you even notice? Or did you think maybe I was recovering from a stressful holiday period with a parent in the hospital, because you saw me post about that. So you kind of knew, maybe, what was going on for me. You know what? Who cares what you think about me? WHO CARES WHAT ANYONE THINKS? About you. Or me. Or anyone. That’s kind of the point of all those thoughts — all the Shoulding all over yourself. What do you really want to do? What do you need? Why isn’t that acceptable? Why isn't that enough? How are you shoulding all over yourself? What areas of your life? What’s it about? It’s gotta be about something to do with the public. With other people. With those around you outside your own head. With some perceived external judgment from the world. But is that even real? Or are you projecting it? And what happens if you just don’t? If you’re honest with your true inclinations and desires and needs and you just say: I’m not going. I’m not showing up. I’m not calling. I’m not explaining. I’m not apologizing. Even as I say that, I’m thinking “Isn’t that a little rude though? You gotta make some excuses and apologies just to keep from hurting other people’s feelings…” One of my favorite memes is a picture of a T-shirt that I really need to track down and order: It's just a black t-shirt and it has big white block letters on it and it says “SORRY I’M LATE. I DIDN’T WANT TO COME.” That kinda sums up my social life. I'm one of those people that gets excited if you cancel plans with me. I go, "Oh yes!" I feel a sense of relief. It still assumes an apology. "Sorry I'm late. I didn't want to come." It draws sarcastic attention to the issue and makes you more of an asshole. But one of my favorite Oprah quotes, or Oprah-isms is “NO" IS A COMPLETE ANSWER. It’s okay to say No. Without an excuse or an explanation or a white lie or a justification What if you just say No? What can you really get away with just saying No to? If you’re a spiritual person and you're trying to better yourself and be best, you probably want to come from a place of Yes. So, that’s sticky, right? I want to come from a place of Yes but I need to say no and not apologize for it when I need to. It sounds good, but that's all kind of hard to follow through on, I think. So maybe do this. Maybe get clear about what are you saying Yes to for the right or wrong reasons. What are you saying No to for the right or wrong reasons? Just get clear about that. Do you say No because of a fear of success? Then you should probably come from a place of Yes then right? It’s so easy to convince ourselves that every invitation is an opportunity. Have you ever thought something like, "Yeah, but what if I don't go to the Christmas party and my soul mate was there and we didn't meet." Some bad romantic comedy situation. But let’s be honest—you know there are some things you just want to say No to. Obligations. What happens if you say No? Really, what happens? What about instead of explaining or apologizing, you just don’t say the word 'sorry' anymore. There was a meme going around last year that I loved so much. And it was about replacing Sorry with Thank you. Instead of “Sorry I’m late” you say “Thank you for waiting on me.” Instead of “Sorry I’m talking your ear off” you say “Thank you for taking the time to listen." I know Oprah said No is a complete answer, but I think we can still make it pretty. You could say: “Thank you for the invitation. I’m really grateful you included me. I won’t be able to attend. Have a fantastic time! Let’s catch up soon and you can tell me all about it.” They're excited. They're don't want to hear about the drama going on in your world that you're using as an excuse not to come. So just wish them well. Wish them happiness and say, "Have a great time. Tell me about it later." Are you mad at me, for choosing to be alone in my tower over the holidays? And just ignore all that Solstice, Christmas, New Year stuff and just not be there for it. Are you disappointed? Do you resent me? You’re not. You don't. I’ve talked to some of you about this and I know what your response is... And, you know, your friends and family and clients, they're probably okay with your choices too. Whatever it is you’re trying to be: perfect parent perfect professional perfect creative perfect partner perfect spouse perfect planner You notice the theme there… Shoulding all over yourself is about perfectionism. You’re not going to be perfect. It’s not going to be perfect. Maybe as we remove the words sorry and should from our vocabulary, and we can also remove the word perfect. My friend Seth has a mantra for this: “It always turns out wonderful anyway."
Let’s start episode 306 of Secrets of Organ Playing Podcast. This question was sent by Jack and he writes: “Hello Vidas, I practice every day for 1 or 2 hours, sometimes even more. But I make slow progress on e.g. Bach level 1 course. Probably due to my age (71) and the fact that I didn't play for almost 30 years. But the good point is that I ENJOY the practicing now, thanks to your inspiring learning materials. Rgds, Jack”

But what does this mean? What if I LIKE eating protein? What if I weigh 175 pounds but I ENJOY eating 350 grams of protein per day? 55:48 - What do you think of mini-cuts? 55:16 - Any tips for finding someone to train with? 59:24 - In order to make gains one must be in a caloric surplus. Can this caloric surplus be calculated on a weekly basis? 1:01:07 - Do you run into people that tell you how lifting is not healthy and that counting calories doesn't work? 1:08:08 - What's your opinion on continuing to taking Forge/Phoenix even while bulking? Wouldn't the improved insulin sensitivity help with improving the ratio of muscle to fat gained during the bulk? 1:12:32 - Today I ate a protein bar that was horrible...not many are great, as we know. Will Legion be making anything like that? 1:15:53 - If you eat too much sodium, how long does it take to get rid of it? 1:17:39 - At what point does it make sense to start adding in HIIT?
