In our 100th podcast we interview Director & animator Lino DiSalvo. Lino DiSalvo is an accomplished artist in the animation industry, with a career spanning almost 17 years at Disney Feature Animation, DiSalvo has contributed to numerous notable projects. He served as the Head of Animation for the successful film Frozen and was a supervising animator on Tangled and Bolt.
In our 97th podcast we interview Valentin Amador, a supervising animator at Walt Disney animation studios. Valentin was born in Cadiz, Spain, and wanted to be a Disney animator since he was a kid. In 2012, he was hired by Disney to work on their box office giant, Frozen. He has been there ever since, working on movies like Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana, and Frozen 2. His latest job was as a supervising animator on Encanto, where he led the characters of Pepa, Camilo and Felix.

In our 87th podcast we interview Blizzard animator, Justin Rasch. Justin has been working as a professional animator for over two decades, which has ranged from video games, to stop motion feature film, to cinematics on such IP's as World of WarCraft, Overwatch, and Hearth Stone. While at Laika, Justin put his stop motion skills to use on two of their features films, ParaNorman and Kubo. It was a treat getting to talk with Justin and hear how he uses reference, the magic and workflow of stop motion, and how that translates to CG.

Brad has been working as a professional animator for 10 years, ranging from film, television, VR, web series, cinematics, and now in video games. A past student of iAnimate and he believes always learning is the ultimate key to being an animator. He spent 2 years at Reel FX working on Free Birds and The Book of Life, then headed to Kelowna, Canada for work on Tales of the teenage mutant ninja turtles TV show. Seth Hippen has spent his career working in character animation for some big-name studios, including Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, and Big Sky Studios. In this episode, Seth explains the difference between 2D and 3D animation, why specializing is important, and the names of some of his favorite projects, including movies and video games. We'll discuss his experience in BYU's animation program, which included an internship on The Simpsons that he found himself. With 20+ years of experience in the business, Seth talks candidly about the pros and cons of moving from studio work to freelancing and how Covid might provide a silver lining for the industry. Victor has been a professional animator in games since 2011 and has worked on such titles as Halo 4, Destiny, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. He is currently working at Amazon Game Studios in Orange County on the new IP - New World. It was great to hear how Victor had a complete career change from a Lead Operations Engineer at Microsoft to a professional animator working on AAA titles.
In our 71th podcast we interviewed Pixar animator and iAnimate alumni, Andrew Atteberry. Before joining Pixar Animation Studios Andrew got his start at Magnetic Dreams, a small studio in Tennessee where he learned many portions of the pipeline. Wanting to grow in his animation skills he joined iAnimate. After graduating iAnimate he went on to Walt Disney and joined their talent development program, Blue Sky Studios, and MPC. He's worked on such films as Rio 2, The Peanuts Movie, Coco, Toy Story 4, and most recently Pixar's Onward. Being somewhat newer to the industry, it was great to hear Andrew's journey from student to professional and some of his learning experiences.

As a kid, Scott fell in love with creature animation when he stumbled upon Jason and the Argonauts on TV one Saturday morning. Scott's professional feature film credits include “Monster House,” “Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe,” “Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers,” “Hellboy II,” “Paul, “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” ”Antman and Wasp,” and “Pokemon Detective Pikachu.”
In our 69th podcast we interviewed industry veteran and iAnimate feature animation instructor, Jim van der Keyl. Jim has been in the animation industry since 1989, getting his start as an inbetweener on the Little Mermaid at Walt Disney Animation Studios. He later worked at Warner Brothers where he was nominated for an 'Annie Award' as best animator for his work on Brad Bird's 'Iron Giant'. Jim made the transition to CG animation early on during Osmosis Jones and later worked for such companies as Sony Imageworks, Dreamworks Animation, and Blue Sky. He's worked on such films as Shark Tale, Over the Hedge, Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, Flushed Away, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Puss N Boots. Most recently Jim was an Animation Supervisor at Singing Frong Studio where he helped with the super successful feature film La Guerre des Tuques (English - Snowtime).
In our 70th podcast we interviewed Pixar animator and iAnimate feature animation instructor, Tal Shwarzman. Before joining Pixar Animation Studios Tal spent over seven years at DreamWorks Animation were he animated on such films as Kung Fu Panda, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Shrek Forever After, Kung Fu Panda 2, Rise of the Guardians, and How to Train Your Dragon 2. Since joining Pixar he's worked on the short Piper, Finding Dori, Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4. His interest in animation started while watching animated TV shows of the mid 80's and films like The Fox and The Hound and The Land Before Time. He graduated from Sheridan College (Ontario, Canada) classical animation program in 2000. Tal shares his knowledge of animation history and his experience in feature animation industry with iAnimate students from the first semester it opened its virtual doors.
In our 67th podcast we interviewed iAnimate Feature animation alumni and DreamWorks Animation Supervising Animator, Ravi Kamble Govind. Ravi was one of our first students to attend iAnimate and one of our first graduating classes. It has been remarkable to follow his growth and success since graduating. Since graduating, Ravi has worked on many feature films and commercials. Ravi worked on the feature film 'The Penguins of Madagascar' where he was promoted as character lead on the octopus villain "Dave" and was nominated for an Annie. He served as a character developer on the 'Detective Pikachu' movie, and has acted as one of the Supervising Animators on both the upcoming Abominable movie and Boss Baby 2 feature. Ravi is both passionate as well as humble about his craft, which made for a fun and informative interview.
In our 66th podcast we interviewed iAnimate game instructor and Senior Animator at Blizzard, Casey McDermott. Casey has animated professionally since 2008 for film, commercials, music videos, R&D, pre-viz, cinematics, and most recently, in games. Since working at Blizzard from 2012 he has been an animator for incubation teams, World of Warcraft, a lead animator in cinematics and is now a Senior Animator/Game Developer for the Overwatch team. He has also taught at several schools and has mentored students for the better part of the last decade, a good handful of those students currently work alongside him at Blizzard. Having worked in multiple different areas within animation, it was great to sit down and talk with him.
In our 62nd podcast we interviewed past iAnimate feature student and current Pixar animator, Frank Abney. In addition to Pixar Animation, Frank has had the opportunity to work for Dreamworks Animation and the Walt Disney Animation Studio. During his time at three of the top studios he has been able to work on such films as Kung Fu Panda 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Frozen, and most recently Toy Story 4. With a resume like that and Frank's own personal project 'Canvas', this made for a great animation conversation.

In our 54th podcast we did a roundtable interview with four artist, three of whom are iAnimate.net instructors, about an art festival that took place a couple months back in Łódź, Poland called Promised Land. Promised Land was the brain child of Sebastian Kalemba & Paweł Mielniczuk, two talented artist at CD PROJEKT RED. This art festival brought speakers from around the world from such studios as Guerrilla Games, Platige Image, Blizzard Entertainment, Industrial Light & Magic, Ubisoft, and CD PROJEKT RED. It looked like a great event, full of creativity, and at a beautiful location. Because it included a handful of speakers who are our instructors, one being the co-creator of the event, I thought it would make for an interesting interview.

In our 31st podcast, we interviewed Bungie Principal Animator, Richard Lico. Richard was a Sr. Art Lead on Bungie's recently anticipated title Destiny. This was Bungie's first mutli-platform title release since having been exclusive with the Halo franchise, and Richard was a part of the project from its infancy. He was responsible for the overall character animation technology and working with the art director to set the animation vision on Destiny. He's been in the game industry since 1999, and has a passion for animation and game design that definitely showed in the podcast!

Jalil is a very talented artist who has animated heavy acting scenes with Jack on Rise of the Guardians, and a whole host of creatures from Aslan on the Chronicles of Narnia, apes on Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and banshees on Avatar. He's currently working on How To Train Your Dragon 2 at DreamWorks. This was recorded shortly after his GDC lecture back in April, which was titled "Making it Believeable."

This one is more or less a short introduction and what we'll be doing.
