A native New Yorker, Adam received a BFA from Ithaca College and completed one year of his MFA at UCLA before deciding to quit because those hard wooden classroom chairs were really chafing his ass. Writing began for him when his first play was produced at the West Coast Ensemble Theater in Hollywood. A creative executive who happened to be in the audience one night called Adam the next day and asked him to write a movie for him. Spoiler alert: it never got made. Shocking, I know! Nevertheless, he persisted. Adam's day job as an Executive Producer of unscripted television shows such as “The Real Housewives of Orange County”, “The Real Housewives of Dallas”, “Southern Charm” and “The Bradshaw Bunch” pays his bills while he writes. To date, his sojourn in the scripted world includes selling a treatment to Disney Feature Animation, being a staff writer on comedy pilots for AMC and Discovery Kids, acceptance into the Warner Bros Comedy Writers Program, being a finalist for the Disney Fellowship in Screenwriting, developing a romantic comedy with Bryan Cranston for him to direct, and writing several features and pilots that have all received accolades from each contest in which they've been entered. Adam's most recent success includes being one of ISA's TOP 25 SCREENWRITERS TO WATCH IN 2025. His Horror / Comedy "HELL HOLES was one of five ISA Staff Picks for December 2024 and one of ISA's 25 Top Reads for Winter 2024. "HELL HOLES" is also in the TOP 8% of all scripts on COVERFLY. Adam's bread and butter is comedy, and his peanut butter and jelly is infusing other genres like horror, action and sci-fi with that comedy. Except for his one drama feature. That one is strictly a BLT on toasted wheat, light mayo.

Claire is from a family of artists where sketchbooks were ever present. Her father Glen is an animator, her grandfather Bil was a cartoonist and apparently her great granddad drew machine parts for steam engines. Her uncle Jeff is a cartoonist, her brother Max draws and animates… so does her cousin. And from the looks of it, her kids are following in her footsteps. After studying design at Parsons School of Design and l'École Supérieure d'Arts Graphiques in Paris, she began her career at Disney Feature Animation in California designing for Tangled, Frozen and Enchanted among other films. Over time, her work expanded to include picture books including Little Wonder, Prunella, Love is, Not Yeti, Make Way, Once Upon a Cloud, and a range of other collaborative projects. In the summer of 2024, Claire returned to Paris with her children, where you'll often find her sketching in a café alongside her basset hound, Stanley.

Episode 141 returns to the contemporary era of Disney Feature Animation with this discussion of the computer-animated musical blockbuster Frozen (Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee, 2013), a fairytale film of female empowerment that is widely credited with ushering in Disney's Third Golden Age of animated features after the ‘Classic' Disney period and earlier Disney Renaissance. The special guest for this instalment is Dr Eve Benhamou, teaching fellow in Film Studies at the University Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3, France who has previously taught at the Bristol School of Animation and Swansea University. Eve's research concerns the intersection of Disney, Hollywood, and gender - ideas central to her first monograph Contemporary Disney Animation: Genre, Gender and Hollywood (EUP, 2022) which examines the “multifaceted interactions between animated films, Disney properties such as Pixar and Marvel, and popular genres including the romantic comedy, the superhero film and the cop buddy film.” Topics for this episode include Frozen's negotiation of the longstanding Disney formula and how such a blueprint impacts the film's identity as both ‘classic' and ‘typical' Disney; gender, genre, and the portrayal of girl power and sisterhood through the Anna/Elsa relationship; recent turns towards Baroque aesthetics in Disney's post-Frozen computer-animated features; stylistic overlaps with the musical performances of Wicked; and what the sustained cultural power of Frozen has to say about the Disney corporation in twenty-first-century America. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**

Despite our differences in ethnicity, culture, and race, have you ever wondered if there is a common language of the soul we all speak? Would you like to find out? Join Dominick Domingo and me on Wednesday, June 14th, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. CST U.S. Our conversation is about his remarkable life's journey and the unique insights on how we are products of the stories we've been exposed to and collectively humanity is the sum of its history! Dominick is a veteran Disney Feature Animation artist and live-action filmmaker whose award-winning narrative nonfiction essays and short stories have been included in anthologies. His Young Adult Fantasy trilogy, The Nameless Prince, launched in 2012 through Twilight Times Books has been capturing imaginations since. His book The Seeker represents Dominick's foray into Mythic Visionary Fiction. It is a universal parable about Transformation that speaks to the journey we all share. In The Language of the Soul: How Story Became the Means By Which We Transform, Dominick shares how we are products of the stories we've been exposed to as individuals. Collectively, humanity is the sum of its history. More potent than persuasion by far, storytelling changes minds by touching hearts. We may or may not be fully aware that in all cultures, Stories and Narratives permeate our life every day, from the literary arena through cinema to social media, branding, advertising, political campaigning, and propaganda. Why are we truly driven to tell stories in the first place, and how have stories become how we transform? Dominick's Artist Journey reveals the transformative power of narrative and what it is to be a born storyteller, with a call to action to embrace the power of STORY in our lives.

For the first episode of 2023, Chris and Alex are back into the world of Disney Feature Animation, following up earlier discussions of The Emperor's New Groove (Mark Dindal, 2000) and Treasure Planet (Ron Clements & John Musker, 2002) with Episode 111, which looks at the studio's 2001 feature film Atlantis the Lost Empire (Gary Trousdale & Kirk Wise, 2001), a science-fiction adventure that draws inspiration from Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870). Joining them as their very special guest is the film's co-director, Gary Trousdale, who was part of the celebrated Disney Renaissance and together with Kirk Wise also directed the Disney features Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). Gary was first hired by Walt Disney Feature Animation back in 1984 as an effects animator on The Black Cauldron (Ted Berman & Richard Rich, 1985). He then moved onto story for Oliver & Company (George Scribner, 1988) and worked as a Storyboard Artist for The Little Mermaid (Ron Clements & John Musker, 1989), before finally taking up directorial duties on Beauty and the Beast that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Gary later moved to DreamWorks and, more recently, is credited as creative consultant for the 2017 reimagining of Beauty and the Beast (Bill Condon, 2017). Listen as they discuss the Disney Renaissance as a period of industrial and creative renewal via the studio's return to a Golden Age sensibility; the siting of Atlantis: The Lost Empire within Disney's post-2000 era of narrative and stylistic heterogeneity; the 1914 setting of the Verne-inspired film, and how its images of war bear the influence of advancements in early twentieth-century technology; the formal connection between animated musical numbers and action sequences; and what the adventure narrative of Atlantis: The Lost Empire and its application of CGI has to say about Hollywood animation's own technological frontier. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo**

Joining them for Episode 94 is Dolores Tierney, Professor of Film at the University of Sussex and an expert in the aesthetics and politics of transnational imaging practices between Latin America, the U.S. and Spain. Topics up for examination this week include the film's rhetoric of ‘authenticity' with regards to Colombian representation; the growing role played by family and community in contemporary Disney Feature Animation; the maligning of Latin America within Trump-era politics; Encanto's narrative and aesthetic links to Pixar's Coco (Lee Unkrich, 2017) via engagements with Classical Mexican cinema and the influence on the film of Latin American telenovas; the portrayal of Colombian culture and how animation can navigate the ‘touristic' gaze; the importance of the quotidian in magical realist storytelling; and what Encanto has to say about the relationship between individuality and exceptionalism. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **This episode was produced and edited by Leon Waldo**

Steve is joined by author, John Williams, the writer behind 'F Work, Let's Play!', and other works. Steve and John discuss the ways in which you can create a systemised approach to choosing the right business for you - one that you both enjoy and profit from. The discussion also focusses upon the process of idea formulation, marketing, selling, and establishing a profitable business that's also a pleasure to operate. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is a prevailing perfectionism problem, where people are far too anxious about things being exactly right before they take action. There are many sectors and markets to conquer, but willingness and keenness are only half of what you need to get there. Establishing your brand and business is also the art of identifying what makes your voice unique in that space. In order to create leads in the short term, we must seek to run campaigns that give people a strong connection to us, and a better sense of our skills and expertise, and ideally an interactive experience. When starting out, an effective way to gain traction is to focus on your chosen sector and establish category creation on a small niche. This marks you out to potential clients as the expert in that field. BEST MOMENTS 'People prevaricate far too much because they feel everything has to be perfect' 'What are you bringing to that idea beyond just the idea?' 'The most successful people don't have five days to give to you' 'That's the power of category creation - if you can zoom in and ask how you can super-niche within a sub-category' VALUABLE RESOURCES Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/SystemsAndOutsourcing/ Website: https://systemsandoutsourcing.com/welcome-1 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/drsteveday ABOUT THE GUEST John Williams is founder of The Ideas Lab, the company that has helped thousands of people to find something they love, get it started, and make a living out of it. On top of his Disney experience, Dominick has also illustrated books for major publishers, written several narrative books, created award-winning short films and founded the Entertainment track at Art Center where he taught for 20 years. In this episode, we describe what a creative process is and what it looks like. In Dominick's eyes, a creative process is present everywhere—not just in stories but also in life. From one's own imagination to the science behind biology, creativity lives and breathes in many forms. Similarly, a creative process looks different for everyone. Episode 47 bobs along on the bottom of the beautiful briny sea, with Chris and Alex gliding far below the rolling tideand through the bubbly blue and green for this latest episode of the podcast, which this week looks at musical fantasy Bedknobs and Broomsticks (Robert Stevenson, 1971). In addition to the film’s political agenda and 1940s wartime setting, the discussion also takes in both the Hollywood cinema and Disney Feature Animation contexts (including its formal resemblances to Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book); what Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ depiction of an illusory and imaginary London means for the organisation of fantasy against its fictional reality; the integration of musical numbers and questions of utopia; national identity and the representation of Nazism; the variant relationships between animation and sport as equally stylised practices; and how Robert Stevenson’s film gestures to postwar British cinema and the “spiv” cycle. Oh, and there’s a couple of references to Bruce Forsyth too.

Being faith-filled and prayerful during this time can be difficult. Do we blame God? Do we give up? Do we lash out to others? OR do we have gratitude and stay faithful along the way. I believe that we need to stay positive and move forward with our lives and love our earth and love each other. Taking care of yourself is MORE than food, exercise, rest and vitamins...you must have faith and belief that all will be ok, as it will!!!! Stay prayerful and be praiseworthy, just like my sweet, inspiration guests, Eddie and Mary. About Eddie and Mary:Edward Grampp is a professional CG (computer graphics) artist who has worked for companies such as Disney Feature Animation, Disney Interactive Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. He is also an almost 8 year survivor of brain cancer, and continues his fight against it to this day.Mary Grampp is an Interior Designer as well as a Wedding & Event Planner. Mary trained for both areas of expertise at the New York Institute of Art & Design located in New York City.. She also received her Associate in Science Degree at Brigham Young University-Idaho. She is currently looking into pursuing her life-long passion for the medical field by continuing further education. In Mary’s free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and also enjoys singing and hopes to make an album soon! They have 4 children; Eddie-11, Jacob-9, and Molly-4. Their other daughter, McKaylee, sadly passed away four years ago in an accident. She was three and a half years old, and Mary was six months pregnant with Molly (the youngest child). Eddie and Mary believe that they will see their sweet McKaylee again, and they feel her sweet presence often. Eddie and Mary have started a podcast called, ‘Praiseworthy with Mary and Eddie’ where they hope to encourage others to be more vulnerable and share their story all in hopes to help someone who may be going through a hard time. They want to shine a light on the good in the world, and on those who have been praiseworthy in someone’s life . How to follow them and hear their inspirational stories, including mine! Day 13: Part 2 of our Christmas donkey double feature takes a deep dive into Don Bluth’s last Disney project, “The Small One,” a short film released in front of the 1978 re-release of “Pinocchio.” On This Episode Mike Westfall (@fallwestmike), a scrawny, undernourished little beast. Lindy Kempe (@ieatvideogames), a friendly face who’s gentle and true. Brandon Medley (@brandmed) from Blessed are the Geek and good enough to be in a king’s stable. Topics and Tangents Like so many Disney movies, it’s based on a book — “The Small One: A Story for Those Who Like Christmas and Small Donkeys.” It’s directed by Don Bluth, so of course we get talking about “Dragon’s Lair.” The “Land Before Time” toys from Pizza Hut. Mouse in Transition: When Everyone Left Disney, Chapter 7 of Steve Hulett’s inside look at Disney Feature Animation deals with Don Bluth’s exit from the company after working on “The Small One.” The time Don Bluth returned to Walt Disney Animation Studios after 40 years. Assistant director Richard Rich went on to direct all 8 movies in the “Swan Princess” franchise. I’m sorry to have just informed you that there are 8 Swan Princess movies. Wikipedia’s entry for “The Small One” includes a very strange line about the other donkeys in the stable. One piece of silver, Small One’s selling price, may be about $5 or $6 in 2018 money, if I did the math right. Edits for home video include the Merchants’ song, and the Star of Bethlehem getting extra rays of light to look less cross-shaped. To avoid too much foreshadowing, I guess. Gordon Jump, the voice of Joseph, went on to guest star in a very special episode of “Diff’rent Strokes.” Yeah. Sorry. Somehow we end up talking about Pixar movies, including “Cars 3,” a.k.a. “Rocky IV, but with Cars.” Previous Episodes of This Podcast Mentioned Season 1, Bonus 2: The Adventures of the American Rabbit Season 2, Episode 12: Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey You can visit the Advent Calendar House on the web at adventcalendar.house, on Twitter @adventcalhouse, and on the Christmas Podcast Network.

Hello and welcome to twenty-ninth episode of Fanboy Nation’s Toon-In-Talk, your rendezvous for animation interviews. Concluding Whitney’s longer than expected series the Ladies of Animation is an interview with Academy Award winner director Brenda Chapman. Brenda is best recognized for her work as the writer and director of Pixar‘s Brave and the director of DreamWorks’s The Prince of Egypt. She also had an extraordinary career at Disney working on Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King. Brenda Chapman has since embarked on an independent creative career with her husband, director Kevin Lima. Show Notes Brenda Chapman is the director of Brave and Prince of Egypt. She has worked in the animation industry since the early days of the Disney Renaissance and first worked on The Little Mermaid. As many an animator, Brenda grew up watching Looney Toons and through close, personal connections contacted Disney Feature Animation, who sent her a brochure about CalArts. The main influence on Brenda’s work was her mother. Brenda had the privilege to know legendary animator Joe Ranft and he encouraged her to concentrate more on storytelling. Brenda has experience storytelling for the screen and page. The biggest difference for her is that regular prose writing demands more detail that is usually visually communicated. When Brenda was applying for jobs after CalArts, she put together a portfolio consisting of her clean-up work and tossed in a storyboard in the back. Disney loved her storyboard over her clean-up animation. She shared that the only reason why Disney hired her was due to her gender, but once she was in the department Brenda never felt any discrimination. Whitney is curious about the chaotic neutral will o’wisps in Brave and Brenda clears up her confusion. Brenda shares the lowdown on George Lucas’s Strange Magic that delivered an odd story. In short, there wasn’t much of a story to begin with. Brenda shared that getting a greenlight and keeping her job on an animated film are some of the biggest challenges she faced. Brenda is keeping busy with many writing projects and is starting a company with her husband. Brenda’s husband, Kevin Lima, isn’t a stranger to animation. He directed Disney’s Tarzan, Enchanted, and A Goofy Movie. Brenda declares that girls need to get out there and animate.

MOANA is a successful new entry in Disney Feature Animation’s ongoing experimentation with non-Western stories and non-white characters, an experiment that was still in its nascent stages around the time of 1998’s MULAN. Inspired by an ancient Chinese poem about a female warrior who disguises herself as a man, the film is an odd mishmash of comedy and war movie, of ancient and modern reference points, and of traditional and CG animation. Today, in part two, Steve tells more behind-the-scenes stories about some of the Nine Old Men including Woolie Reithermann, Ward Kimball, Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas.  Steve talks candidly about the departure of Don Bluth and a group of other Disney animators to form their own studio in 1979, the challenge of working for animator and future Disney Legend Ken Anderson, the arrival of Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg in the mid 1980s, and finally, the notorious internal memo that incited the wrath of Disney Feature Animation president Peter Schneider. Steve Hulett is Tim's guest today in The Mouse Castle Lounge. You can read more about Steve Hulett's Disney exploits in his book "Mouse in Transition: An Insider's Look at Disney Feature Animation," available from Amazon.com and Theme Park Press. www.TheMouseCastle.comRSS Feed: http://themousecastle.libsyn.com/rss

TAG Interview with Randy MyersFind all TAG Interviews on the TAG website at this link Director and animator Randy Myers is nothing if not persistent. When he got turned down by Cal Arts for a spot in their animation program, he applied a second time. When the school declined to accept him a second time, Mr. Myers started taking art classes in earnest, redid his portfolio, and finally found success ... But Randy Myers was a young man in a hurry. "It was the early nineties," he says, "and there was a demand for animation artists. And I had loans of pay off, so after two years I left and went to work full time in animation. ..." It was a heady time. Disney Feature Animation was on a roll with a string of hits, and every major entertainment company wanted to be in the animated feature business. Randy went to work for Turner Feature Animation, where he worked his way up to animator on Cats Don't Dance, then moved over to the Warner Bros. feature studio where he animated on Quest For Camelot and Brad Bird's Iron Giant in rapid succession. Randy speaks of these things and more in the first of a two-part TAG interview.

Here's the second half of Mr. Hickner's audio podcast, and most of the interview in the video version (new camera equipment was a tad glitchy; new processes to learn): TAG Interview with Steve HicknerFind all TAG Interviews on the TAG website at this link Steve arrived at Disney Feature Animation while The Black Cauldron was in work, and plunged into work on the production. After that came The Great Mouse Detective, in the middle of which Michael Eisner, Frank Wells and Jeffrey Katzenberg arrived to remake the studio, top to bottom. Peter Schneider was installed as head of Disney Feature Animation. During the production of live-action/animation hybrid Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Steve asked Mr. Schneider for two minutes of his time, which Peter granted. (Who can turn down a couple of minutes, right?) Mr. Hickner told Peter he had heard a second animation unit for Roger Rabbit was opening, and he wanted to be part of it. Mr. Schneider made Steve no promises (he didn't even admit the unit was being formed), but a short while later Steve was an early assignee into Who Framed Roger Rsabbit's new-formed animation unit. Which demonstrates that it pays not to be shy when there are new worlds to conquer.

TAG Interview with Steve HicknerFind all TAG Interviews on the TAG website at this link Director and story artist Steve Hickner has been in the animation business since Lou Scheimer headed up Filmation (where Steve got his first animation job) and Disney Feature Animation in the Time Before Jeffrey. Steve has worked at DreamWorks Animation since its founding. In a way, he was at DreamWorks Animation before it was DWA ... In the early days of his career, Mr. Hickner never allowed grass to grow under his feet. At Filmation, he worked his way up the corporate ladder to become board supervisor. At Disney, he lobbied for a spot on the animation crew of Who Framed Roger Rabbit ... and got it. Later, when he heard that director Steven Spielberg was forming an animation studio, he interviewed for a job in the new studio twice before landing the gig. Steve remained with Amblimation from its inception to its merger with DreamWorks' animation division several years later. During his time there, he found himself in management positions (something for which, by his own admission, he had minimal training). Later at DreamWorks, he was in the pilot's chair yet again when he co-directed Prince of Egypt, and later Bee Movie. The leadership roles left a strong impression on Mr. Hickner, which inspired him to write a book about them: A few of the things Steve has learned from his decades in the cartoon biz are: 1) Never stop learning, 2) Never dodge a challenge, and 3) Every job you have is one more opportunity to improve your skill set. Remember the drill around here: Today half the audio version of the interview; tomorrow the other half, plus the interview as video, which will (unfortunately) will be missing the last several minutes because of glitches with a newer camera.
