In Episode 430 of Things We Said Today Ken Michaels, Allan Kozinn and Darren DeVivo speak with Ron Griffiths, an original member of the Apple band the Iveys (which became Badfinger) about the band's history and the newly released collection of demos, “How Much Is the Sky.” There is also plenty of news (and discussion): the news segment runs from 2'20” to 33'32”; our chat with Ron follows.

Escuchar audio

With 10 years and counting of making music together, let's get to know more about the humble beginnings, struggles, and successes of the wild sibling group – The Ivey's! I am joined by 4 out of 5 members of the band, unfortunately, Hugo (lead guitarist and banjo player) can't make it today. But I am delighted to be graced by the presence of Jessica, Jenna, Galen, and Arlen here on the show. With seven kids in the family and five of them in the group, their other sibling Julia, used to be part of the band as well, and their oldest brother Shannon is into farming, it is very evident that the family loves music so much. Their interest in music started with their dad who they always hear singing while they are growing up. Their dad also exposed them to trying different vocal harmony lines; eventually, they individually learned to play musical instruments - Jessica with piano, Arlen on guitar, Galen took drum lessons, and so from there, everything evolved into the music that they have today. To keep the creative flow going, the siblings put a lot of time and effort into discussing, planning everything out meticulously, and establishing the goals ahead of time, even scheduling the days when they have to go to the studio for recording. Luckily, they've got a studio a couple of miles away from where they live, and they consider this their second home. It is called Sonic Ranch Studios located in Tornillo, Texas. Over the years, they have gotten to know a lot of different musicians and artists who they've got the opportunities to do a collaboration with. One of them is Jerry Ordonez, a fantastic music engineer who co-produced their last two projects, Leslie Johnson played the bass for some of the recordings, Michael Ways recorded cello with them and many other musicians. Democracy of siblings in a bandAs with all relationships, disagreements cannot be avoided, especially with The Ivey's because not only are their siblings but bandmates as well. Their mindset is really to try to be always focused on their goals and continue moving forward, always trying to remember that it's not one person against the other. It's more about having different ideas and coming together for the best possible option. They will always be a family and have each other. Get to know more about the members of The Ivey's: GalenGalen is the drummer of the band; he graduated just last December with a film major. “Running Wild” is one of the first music videos he directed with his siblings. He is now in charge of the music video direction and post-production. Jenna Jenna is 23 years old, graduated just last semester with a degree in theatre arts. She was helping the band to write songs even before she joined. She usually collaborates with Arlen when conceptualizing and writing songs, and works with Galen when filming their music videos. JessicaArlen tagged Jessica along when he needed a pianist and a singer. At first, they were just doing cover songs together, then Arlen started bringing in original music, and the rest is history. When Jenna and Galen joined the band, and the group recorded “Colors of Honey”, layers upon layers, getting down the piano, guitar, vocals, and hearing it all together, was when Jessica had this epiphany that these have brought The Ivey's sound to where it needed to be and completed it. ArlenHe is the second among the seven Ivey siblings. He is the guitarist, “road manager”, and one of the songwriters of the band. Jenna and Arlen have written songs together; they sometimes write songs out of dreams, sometimes they work together and lead each other to a path, and it fits well. Something magical can happen with songwriters that are connected to each other and constantly working together. Arlen is not only the “spokesperson” of the group but he is also in charge of the bookings and schedules of their shows and tours. Thoughts about their parentsTheir dad is a firm believer in the power of art. Their parents have been so encouraging now, and as they were growing up. They are so proud of what The Ivey's have accomplished, and they are no doubt their biggest fans. So that also makes it easier because this is a passion project. And we're all working together for the good of it and trying to convey something and capture a bit of magic with that, so with that focus, it helps because you always get back to that and disagreements have to be resolved, because you want to continue moving forward, and you love each other. You want it to be a positive environment.” “It's important to be educated about music in general. Bad Luck or Bad Apple?: The Tragic Story of BadfingerSigned to Apple Records. Aided by contributions from The Beatles. First 3 singles are Top 10 hits. Appeared on classic albums such as Imagine and All Things Must Pass. The band was poised to be the best thing since The Beatles. Two years later, they were broke, Apple Records disbanded, Warner Brothers sued them and when things seemed like they could not get worse, a band member committed suicide. In Episode 001 of #1 Fanclub, Craig and Shawn tell the story of Badfinger and try to reconcile how did it go from great to tragic so fast.Intro music provided by Joe Giddings"#1" from Star Collector's album Songs For The Whole Family

The films of 1999? Whoa! What an amazing year of movies! On this Tom-less episode Dan and Ivey go over the many, many films that were released in the year of nineteen hundred and ninety nine! A lot of films that influenced the movie studio and pop culture, came out 20 years ago and you may not even realize it! Dan goes over over a quick quiz about the films of Keanu Reeves, and Ivey gives us his guilty pleasure film. This lengthy episode has discussions on all the films that were huge then and still are! Matrix, American beauty, Betty White, Fight club, Freddie Prince Jr, and so much more. Enjoy the soothing sounds of Iveys voice debating if these films still hold up and Dan's annoying laugh. And let your earholes love the sensation of Tom not talking! So sit back and relax and let it all sink in that a huge majority of your favorite films was released 20 years ago!!!! Thanks to Kirby Krackle for the kick ass music! Check out our Facebook page and stuff and don't forget to e-mail us cause we're lonely and want friends. Jamie Ivey joins us this week to talk about fear, control, shame, and vulnerability. Jamie and her husband Aaron Ivey are both biological and adoptive parents; she writes, speaks, and hosts a renowned Christian podcast “The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey.” As we discuss the parenting journey that the Lord has had the Iveys on (including adoption, being a working mother/parent, and work travel), Jamie shares about how vulnerability has transformed her friendships and her parenting. Together, we delve into the false gospel we preach with our lives if we, as believers, try and act like we have it all together -- and how shame plays into inadvertently training our kids not to confess sin. Get the encouragement and support you need to teach your kids to love Christ in a world that doesn’t — directly to your inbox each week! My guest for The Happy Hour # 201 is Priscilla Shirer. Priscilla is a wife, mom, and Bible teacher. She and her husband, Jerry, lead Going Beyond Ministries through which they provide spiritual support and resources to the body of Christ. They count it as their greatest privilege to serve every denomination and culture across the spectrum of the church. Friends, Priscilla is a joy to talk to and you are going to love hearing her speak about her ministry, her family, and how God has led her down paths she never would have imagined (such as how she flat out said No! the first time she was asked to be in a movie!) We start out the show talking about family and ministry - you guys have heard Chrystal and Wynter on the Happy Hour before, and it's awesome hearing how they do life together and support each other. Priscilla and I talk about trying to teach our kids the importance of those daily tasks we all need to do (i.e. cleaning, cooking!) and being ok when maybe it's not quite how we would have done it - the struggle is real! Priscilla then shares how she started writing The Prince Warriors series - can you imagine if your 4 year old came up to you and asked, "Mom, will I be in a battle one day?" This is what happened to Priscilla and you are going to love hearing what happened from that question. In the last part of the show Priscilla shares how she came to act in movies. I think we can all relate to feeling afraid, intimidated, and unequipped to succeed. But, I know you will feel encouraged as you hear Priscilla describe how God led her and made what felt impossible, possible, and expanded the reach of the ministry greater than she could have imagined. {You can listen to the show HERE, and make sure you never miss a Happy Hour - subscribe using your favorite podcast app (ie. iTunes, Google Play). My guest for The Happy Hour # 200 is my all-time favorite guest on The Happy Hour, my husband Aaron Ivey. Friends, I cannot believe that The Happy Hour is celebrating its 200th episode!!! I want to thank each and every one of you for listening, sharing the show, joining us in Book Club or Happy Hour Live, and supporting If You Only Knew. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm honored and humbled to be able to share so many women's stories. These stories made us laugh and cry -- sometimes at the same time! -- and have encouraged, inspired, and most importantly pointed us to the Gospel. On today's show Aaron and I share some favorite moments from The Happy Hour. We hear a little bit from twelve different episodes and we get to talk about everything from the single life, married life, kids, how men and women look at approval, diversity, creativity, and more. I would have loved to share clips from every single episode, but if you want to catch up on any shows you missed, maybe a Happy Hour podcast binge is in order! Thank you again to each and everyone of you for listening, sharing your stories, giving feedback, and building this community. I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart and here's to the next 200 shows! {You can listen to the show HERE, and make sure you never miss a Happy Hour! My guest for The Happy Hour # 198 is Michelle McKinney. Michelle defines herself as a Dream Architect and she brings her 20-years experience working alongside senior executives at companies such as Starbucks, American Express, Fannie Mae and Zion, to help women design, construct and bring their God-given dreams to life. Michelle and her husband, Tony, reside in Maryland with their 4 children - Caleb, Mekhi, Anthony and Selah. I knew Michelle and I would get along when I saw her dance onto the stage at Shine, and she brings her joy and energy to the show today - I know you're going to love it. Michelle believes that every woman can fulfill her God-given purpose, and on today's show we talk about how women can discover those dreams and move through the restlessness, yearning, and transition of when God is transplanting us to something new. We discuss the struggle of finding contentment in a season instead of only focusing on what's next. I love her idea of keeping a journal to write down your wins each day - it's such a great way to celebrate and look back and see how God has been working in your life. In the second half of the show we discuss one of my favorite topics - marriage. Michelle speaks about marrying for love and purpose. She says, "marriage is about partnership and being able to build something to advance God’s kingdom even more than what you could do alone." Lastly, Michelle tells us about what is now my new favorite idea for a party - a bridal shower reboot for her 20th wedding anniversary! {You can listen to the show HERE. It's April 1968 and The Beatles are back from India and open for business with a new company: APPLE. The concept of Apple Corps began as a clever way to reinvest money into creative endeavors, rather than pay it all to the taxman...but it soon blossomed into, as Paul put it, a type of "western communism" that sought to change the world of pop music from the top down and the bottom up. The company would be divided into several sectors including records, manufacturing, retail, publishing and technology, each designed by the Beatles themselves to promote art, music, culture, innovation and talent that they each believed in. At the heart was Apple Records, and John, Paul, George and Ringo each set out to discover, nurture and promote talented fresh faces of music such as Mary Hopkin, James Taylor, The Iveys, Jackie Lomax and others. Apple was a massive undertaking, and could not have come at a more unstable period for the group. Upon returning from Rishikesh with a renewed sense of inner self, John put months of secret correspondence to bed (literally) with Japanese conceptual artist Yoko Ono Cox, sending his marriage into a tailspin. George, meanwhile, became the increasing target of bitterness and resentment from his bandmates for having involved them with the Maharishi in the first place, whom John especially felt personally betrayed by. All this while the boys readied themselves to return to the studio and begin the most challenging sessions of their musical career... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Johnny Warman - Screaming Jets Edit By Petko Turner Warman was born in Bethnal Green, East London. He then moved to Hackney at the age of seven where he enjoyed a normal idyllic childhood, frequently climbing trees and scrumping over Victoria Park. Within Warman's home there was always music in some shape or form although nobody played an instrument, his mother sang and his father was a terrible singer no matter how much he tried. Warman enjoyed his school years very much and when he first heard The Beatles at the age of 11, he was walking home from school when he passed another school building and heard music. He was so transfixed by the sound so much he walked up to the Dansette record player to find an Ep cover for the song playing - "Love me do". He decided to join the school choir. He was picked to sing at the Royal Opera House in 1964, where he sang alongside Maria Callas and Tito Gobbi. Warman considered this a pivotal event in his choice of singing as a career. Warman was (and remains) a keen fan of both The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. He had no hesitation in choosing between being a Mod or a Rocker once he had heard The Who. After Jimi Hendrix (considered a "Guitar Messiah" by Warman) had burst onto the British music scene in 1966 when Warman first heard "Hey Joe" he realised all he wanted to be was a Rock Star. Whilst in school Warman wrote a song called, "Cosmic Butterflies" and joined a band called "Sounds Like Six," with Kevin Molyneux on lead guitar. During the late 1960s Warman frequented many live music performances including Jimi Hendrix thrice and other groups including The Move, The Iveys and Pink Floyd whilst using the Melody Maker as his bible.

Jamie Ivey and Jessie Pepper chat about everything from quality-time at breakfast to being really clear about clean underwear expectations. In this episode you'll hear about: Pulling weeds. Husband's are hot when they have their hands in the dirt. If you're not familiar with this epidemic, ask him to do some light yardwork and you will be thanking us later. Adoption as a way to open your eyes to the world. Jamie explains how her experience with growing a family has been one of the ways that her eyes became more open to the world. The downsides of a long engagement. For anyone who happens to prioritize sexual purity, that stretch of time can be a serious struggle. It's obviously important to know whether your partner is truly “the one,” but setting aside a realistic timeframe is so helpful. Having breakfast with your babe. Expecting and relishing that time together in the mornings always helps the Iveys start their day with a delicious burst of quality time. Grill + Wine + Good book = Great date night idea. Jamie and Aaron have this all figured out, and need nothing more to create a special evening together. (I have to agree!) Debunking the description of a traditionally perfect wife. It doesn't necessarily to mean perfect make-up or perpetually clean laundry or staying home to take care of the house around the clock. Different for everybody and definitely not worth getting worked up over. Sex gets better. Jamie claims that once you've been doing it for 15 years, you're nearly bound to get better with time. Put it on the calendar and prioritize it amidst your busy lives. Too many people get tired by the end of the day, and the balance of craving each other and avoiding each other. The fear of infidelity. Jamie says she used to loved Aaron SO well because she wanted to make sure he would never leave her… she has since realized that it's more important to love her partner because God loves them both. Standing on the truth that Jesus loves us more than worrying whether or not she'll ever be alone. Trusting God instead of just trusting Aaron. Jamie says: “At the end of the day, I know that there is nobody else that I'd rather sit on the couch with than Aaron. There is nobody else that's going to support me more than he will, and there is nobody else that is going to Love me when I (incorrectly) think that I'm always right. We just truly want the best for each other, and that is how I see Great Love come alive in our marriage.” Find out more about Jamie by connecting with her online!Web: www.jamieivey.comInsta: @jamieiveyTwitter: @jamie_ivey
Nada mais “In”. Vivemos aquele momento. 01-Alive & Kicking | Tighter, Tighter 02-Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg | Je TÁime Moi Non Plus 03-The Chi – Lites | Oh Girl 04-Herman Hermit’s | End Of The World 05-Earls Grant | The End 06-Louis Armstrong | What A Wonderful World 07-Ray Charles | Yesterday 08-Iveys | maybe Tomorrow 09-The Marmalade | Maybe Tomorrow 10-Bee Gees | I Started A Joke 11-Jose Feliciano | Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying 12-Bread | make With You 13-The Carpenters | Close To You 14-Elton John | Your Song 15-Carole King | It’s Too Late 16-Lettermen | Hurt So Bad 17-Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons | Can’t Take My Eyes of You 18-The Jackson Five | Never Can Say Goodbye 19-The Stylistcs | Betcha By Golly, Wow 20-Eddie Holman | Hey There Lonely Girl 21-The Delfonics | La La Means I Love You 22-Tower of Power | You’re Stll A Young Man 23-Todd Rundgren | Hello It’s Me 24-Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 | The Look Of Love 25-Dionne Warwick | I’ll Never Fall In Love Again 26-Diana Ross & The Supremes | One Day We’ll Be Together
