Happy Wednesday friends!I have been migrating computers, getting a new phone set up since last week. It has really thrown me for a loop. I almost have everything back to 100% but still trying to get used to my new computer. My next guest is AWE-inspiring! He is very authentic and vulnerable talking about his battle with addiction. Please welcome Justin Brien! A little bit about Justin:My name is Justin Brien and I am a Mental Health Advocate / Inspirational Speaker and Life Coach working in Salmon Arm BC. For over half of my lifetime, I have been riddled with an endless cycle of addiction stemming from my mental health. I have battled dark nights filled with loneliness and doubt, questioning whether or not I would make it to see my son graduate, ride a bike, or even through the night. It was during this time by my own sheer mental determination and ultimately my will to live and succeed I decided to find my “why” in life. With that thought, I took my last breath in my old negative and recycled ways and looked to a new future through a better understanding of myself. With discipline and a sheer work ethic, I found it was possible to defeat my mental demons at last. Now in my new life with my son, and his mother by my side I am able to show him we are enough, each of us, and that we matter. We are not alone. There is a magic in each and every one of us and through the power of sharing my story, my experience and passing on my knowledge to others in support and understanding of what they are going through I am able to help defeat the stigma around mental health. With my life long experience dealing with these important personal issues, I aim to bring awareness to others who don't understand and bring hope to those who desperately need it. Join me this week as we have a real and raw conversation with Justin Brien. He is a mental health advocate, speaker and professional executive coach. I had the honor of chatting with Justin about his journey and how he's traversing life today. As you'll hear, he's taken time away from the business to spend time with his family as his newly born daughter is recovering in NICU from surgery. Justin extends you and me a lot of trust in taking us in the decisions he's making for his own health and his family's. We discuss how self-reflection is the key to improving mental health. We also delve into Justin's story to discuss how alcohol can create false confidence, fight addiction and address depression. We'll be dealing with loss, being aware of your personal mental health and how to make appropriate decisions if correction is needed. Justin has a fantastic transformational story - I came away encouraged by his honesty and vulnerability, as well as hopeful for what is yet to come. My name is Justin Brien and I am a Mental Health Advocate, Inspirational Speaker and Professional Coach. However to be able to put those titles in front of my name I had a 16 year long battle with addiction and a lifelong battle with my own Mental health and self worth. I almost lost everything including my family. I lost jobs, friendships, my son and gf and I nearly lost my life. For 6 years I was suicidal and I started to make a plan to end it all and donate my body to someone more deserving. I was fortunate enough to find my WHY, get the help that I needed and turn it around to become the man I am today. Back together with my family 3 years later, I have over 2 years of sobriety underneath my belt along with coaching and speaking certifications. I believe in the power of sharing your story and lending an ear can go a long way. Alone we fight, together we battle.
