Toronto-London based experimental group, The Flowers of Hell, founded by Greg Jarvis release their latest album called "Keshakhtaran" via Space Age Recordings. "The Flowers of Hell" is rooted in an old blues idea about how music transforms the misery and toil of musicians into the joy of listeners, as well as Baudelaire's poetry book called, "Les Fleurs Du Mal." "Keshakhtaran," meaning "seeking nirvana through meditation to sound, especially when you're stoned," is suitably named. The album presents a 42-minute instrumental psilocybin meditation piece in two parts, rooted in sax, flugel horn, chimes, harp, sitar and opera soprano vocals, augmented with tremolos, flutters, horns, woodwinds, strings and percussion. The album was mastered by Grammy recipient Peter J. Moore (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer). For the past 18 years, The Flowers Of Hell have traversed the experimental edges of indie, classical and jazz, with music often rooted in the audio-visual synesthesia of Jarvis. Despite relative obscurity, they have been championed by music legends such as Lou Reed, Sonic Boom, Kevin Shields and members of The Legendary Pink Dots, Death In Vegas, The Wedding Present, The Fugs and The Plastic People Of The Universe, not to mention support from NASA's Mission Control team and the Tate Gallery. THE FLOWERS OF HELL also released their deluxe first vinyl pressing of Lou Reed-endorsed "Odes" album for Record Store Day UK. "Odes," pays tribute to The Joy Division, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Stereolab, Laurie Anderson, The Velvet Underground, Siouxsie & the Banshees and Neutral Milk Hotel, among others. http://www.flowersofhell.comhttps://flowersofhell.bandcamp.comPlaylist and podcast: https://djnocturna.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DJNocturnaListen : http://modsnapradio.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna Every Saturday on ModSnap RadioKMOD: San Antonio2pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)
Our latest commentary podcast has us going back to the deepest roots of one of the most important and celebrated industrial bands of all time. Holed up in West End apartments, Ogre and cEvin Key recorded Back & Forth, a collection of minimalist demos which pointed towards their interests in dub, Portion Control, and The Legendary Pink Dots, yet still hold some early trace of the version of Skinny Puppy we would all come to know and love.

Toronto-London based experimental group The Flowers Of Hell have announced that they will release their new album 'Keshakhtaran' via UK cult label Space Age Recordings (home to Spacemen 3, as well as Spectrum, Chapterhouse, Acid Mothers Temple and The Telescopes). Ahead of this, they present ‘Foray Through Keshakhtaran', the first taste of the trans-Atlantic group's first studio album in six years. A tripped out instrumental journey in two 20-minute parts, this record involves 20 artists, including special guests Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Beck) on sitar, Montreal harpist Sarah Pagé, and avant-accordion legend Angel Corpus Christi (Suicide, Spiritualized, Dean Wareham). Produced by the band's leader and composer Greg Jarvis, this album was mastered by Grammy recipient Peter J. Moore (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer). For the past 18 years, The Flowers Of Hell have traversed the experimental edges of indie, Classical and jazz, with music often rooted in the audio-visual synesthesia of the group's mastermind, Greg Jarvis. Despite relative obscurity, they have been championed by music legends such as Lou Reed, Sonic Boom, Kevin Shields and members of The Legendary Pink Dots, Death In Vegas, The Wedding Present, The Fugs and The Plastic People Of The Universe, not to mention support from NASA's mission control team and the Tate Gallery with an album installation and concert just a fortnight before London locked down. #NewMusic #Legends #Interview

Formed in London in 1980, The Legendary Pink Dots - led by core members Edward Ka-Spel and Phil Knight - are an uncategorizable experimental avant-rock band with over 40 albums to their credit. This week's guests, Oklahoma City husband-and-wife duo Allan and Barb Vest (doubleVee), join us to discuss their 1991 album 'The Maria Dimension', a uniquely compelling collection of neo-psychedelic tunes that sound like they were intercepted from an interplanetary radio broadcast hosted by Syd Barrett and Hawkwind. Songs featured in this episode: Home - The Legendary Pink Dots; When Dawn Comes Tonight - doubleVee; As Long As It's Purple and Green - The Legendary Pink Dots; Dark Globe - Syd Barrett; Disturbance - The Legendary Pink Dots; Chromosome Damage - Chrome; Pennies For Heaven - The Legendary Pink Dots; In The Square - The Pretty Things; The Third Secret, The Grain Kings - The Legendary Pink Dots; The End - The Doors; Flaming - Pink Floyd; The Ocean Cried 'Blue Murder', Belladonna - The Legendary Pink Dots; My Impression Now - Guided By Voices; People Who Died - The Jim Carroll Band; A Space Between, Evolution, Cheraderama, Expresso Noir - The Legendary Pink Dots; The Question's Closed - doubleVee

As we recently opined, the new album by The Legendary Pink Dots ranks among the best works in the long-standing experimental band's voluminous discography. It's a timely honour, then, to speak to the band's frontman and chief songwriter Edward Ka-Spel on this week's episode of We Have A Technical. Edward spoke with us about the structuring and execution of The Museum Of Human Happiness, how his songwriting has changed to reflect different eras, and shifting senses of utopias past and present, all with the characteristic wit and humanity instantly recognizable to any long-term LPD listener.

This month's Patreon-supported commentary podcast has the Senior Staff revisiting Curse, an early chapter in the massive discography of The Legendary Pink Dots. Both Alex and Bruce hold LPD in a special place in their hearts, and are offering thoughts about what has and hasn't changed about the band since Curse, the genres which the band border upon yet never quite occupy, and the early occurrences of some of Edward Ka-Spel's recurring lyrical themes.
Edward Ka-Spel has built an international following with his dark psychedelic folk melodies and astute lyrics. Best known as the lead singer, keyboard and electronics player, songwriter and co-founder of the band The Legendary Pink Dots. He has also released numerous solo albums and has worked in various different projects including The Tear Garden (with cEvin Keyof Skinny Puppy), and Mimir (with Phil Knight, Christoph Heemann, Jim O'Rourke and others) and has collaborated with Amanda Palmer From The Dresden Dolls releasing the LP "I can Spin a Rainbow" and Steven Stapleton's Nurse With Wound, just to name a few. Ka-Spel's albums range from abstract electronic noise to more traditional pop songs, incorporating diverse elements of psychedelia, industrial, avant-garde, experimental electronic, art pop, classical music, folk, sampling, noise, collage, music concrete. His lyrics have been described as intensely mystical, incorporating recurrent themes from his own personal mythos. The Legendary Pink Dots' new studio album is called "The Museum of Human Happiness" available on the band's website or Metropolis Records. His latest solo works include "Conspiracy of Pylons" and "The Concrete Diaries" and many more. The Legendary Pink Dots' North American Tour 2022 was recently announced, followed by their European Tour in 2023. https://legendarypinkdots.orgSubscribe to my monthly mailing list for the latest music news, updates and my next interviews and events:http://eepurl.com/gtw6PP

One of the pioneers in darker electronica music is ATTRITION. The man who has steered the band through the 40 year career, fueled by a succession of critically acclaimed albums is founder Martin Bowes. Formed in 1980 in Coventry, England, Attrition is influenced by a mix of punk ideology and experimental art aesthetics. They emerged as part of the early 80s UK industrial scene alongside contemporaries such as Coil, Test Department, Legendary Pink Dots, Chris and Cosey, In the Nursery, Portion Control etc.Martin's increasing studio production work at his studio, The Cage, has included mixes for The Damage Manual (Martin Atkins, Jah Wobble, Geordie Walker, Chris Connelly et al...), Die Form, In the Nursery, Black tape for a Blue girl, Mona Mur/En Esch and mastering for countless bands and labels, including collaborations with Anni Hogan (known for her work with Marc Almond through the 80's) and the legendary Wolfgang Flur (ex-Kraftwerk). He contributed synths and vocals on a song on the last Pigface album, is the narrators voice on US horror series, “C for Chaos”, has written the score to US horror film G.H.O.S.T from Mutantville productions and has mastered the latest album by Pieter Nooten and Marselle Hodges called Anonymity, just to name a few.Attrition's current single is out now called The Alibi from the upcoming album, The Black Maria to be released this year on Two Gods label with accompanying video and remixes from Bellhead, Vaselyne, Steckdose and Follynator.Martin Bowes – Vocals/ All Electronics, Yvette Winkler – Female lead vocals Joanne Wolf – Female spoken vocals Elisa Day – Female backing vocals Vancorvid – ViolinMarietta Fox – ViolinAnni Hogan – PianoIan Arkley – GuitarKris Force – CelloWritten by Martin Bowes.Photo of Martin Bowes taken by Dylan Madelayhttps://attrition.co.ukhttps://www.thecagestudios.co.ukhttps://attritionuk.bandcamp.com/album/the-alibi

Introducing Episode 008 of our weekly music podcast, Miami Music Partners Radio, featuring a special 1-hour set by this week's guest DJ, TECHNASIA.MMP Radio is brought to you by the Miami Music Partners, Miami's premier organization for the production & promotion of Dance Music events. Follow us on Instagram @MiamiMusicPartners or visit us online at MiamiMusicPartners.com, to stay up to date on our latest special events, and podcast special guest mixes! SPECIAL GUEST BIO. - TECHNASIA: For thirteen years Technasia has created a unique east/west fusion that moves seamlessly from the Paris club scene, to the streets of Hong Kong, to the hippest techno venues in Europe. Founded by Charles Siegling and Amil Khan in 1996, Technasia thrived as a duo for almost a dozen years. Now, Charles has gone solo, taking Technasia into 2010 as a one-man project. Unlike a Hollywood divorce, the parting between Siegling and Khan is truly amicable. Hong Kong-based Khan retired from Technasia to spend time with his young family. “You have to live this scene every single day,” says Siegling, “It’s very consuming, Amil didn’t want that anymore.”Despite the change, Siegling has always been the ‘front man’ in terms of DJing and performing live, so Technasia is as thrilling and full-bodied a live experience as ever. If anything, Siegling is even more determined to infuse every aspect of Technasia with his utter absorption in sound, the passion born of 25 years engrossed in electronic music. ?Born in Paris and raised in an 11th century chateau, Charles grew up listening to everything from Depeche Mode, Jimi Hendrix to Legendary Pink Dots and Einstuerzende Neubauten. His music-loving dad even introduced him to early British rave tunes. As a university student he continued his musical education the clubs of Paris listening to the likes of Derrick May and Robert Owens; and taking note of the records Laurent Garnier and DJ Deep played on their radio shows.● Soundcloud - click here● Beatport - click here● Spotify - click here

Hailing from Coventry England, Attrition is one of the pioneers in dark electronic music in the UK. The band, founded by the talented Martin Bowes in 1980, emerged from the experimental post-punk scene of the early 80s, alongside with other influential groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey and the Legendary Pink Dots. Bowes' early beginnings was when he started a xeroxed fanzine called Alternative Sounds in Coventry England in 1979, running 18 issues. It was then when he decided to form Attrition. With an amazing catalog of music, Bowes continues to tour with Attrition, producing music and remixing tracks for various artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Die Form, Pigface, Black Tape for a Blue Girl and so much more.Attrition's latest single, "The Great Derailer' to be released on EP is coming soon !Photo by Tracy Chan, taken at the 4th Annual Hawaii Horror Ball concert in September 2017.www.attrition.co.ukhttp://attritionuk.bandcamp.com/www.thecagestudios.co.uk
Naturally, the new year for Extra Noir brings in lots of old music. Actually, we do have one new track from the great new album "7" by Sault. Otherwise it's the standard blend of post-punk, coldwave and minimal synth from the early 80s onwards. This show features Caroline K, Thick Pigeon, Liquid Liquid, The Legendary Pink Dots, Neo Museum and more. Levenda answers more about project "To The Stars", & we continue the philosophical examination of the U.F.O. phenomenon. Some issues touched: Are they human, aliens, or inter-dimensional? Organic, machines, or robots? Has AI jump-started itself? Is higher forces in play? Is reality manipulated by magic & technology? Why do contactee's turn spiritual? Have we back-engineered? Why is Deep State concerned & why not come clean? Will other whistle-blowers step up? Is this a controlled drip disclosure? Does it restore the SSP discussion? How is consciousness key? ...and Al argues that the NASA footage proves they are not only "ours". :: :: :: :: All programs are gratis & listener funded. Well Yells is darkwave, ghostly sounds, surreal lyrics that construct their own logic. It imagines the entity that you call to at the bottom of a well, or what it’s like to be inside a well. It’s the solo project of Chicagoan Patrick Holbrook, who wanted to do something with the music fragments he could remember from his dreams, and make a portal to his teenage days, when he learned to play bass by following along to Joy Division and Bauhaus songs. More recently, he runs the record label Hairy Spider Legs, and was in the music project Laughing Eye Weeping Eye with his wife Rebecca Schoenecker. Well Yells has drawn comparisons to The Cure, John Carpenter, The Legendary Pink Dots, Clan of Xymox, and A Certain Ratio.
Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, industrial, psychedelic folk, synthpop, post-punk, progressive, jazz, noise, pop, and goth rock, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre."
