Jason Wolfe is the definition of a serial entrepreneur. He sold MyCoupons.com for roughly $23 million in 2000, shortly before the DotCom bubble burst. Jason rolled over his proceeds into successive wins with his companies Direct Response Technologies (acquired by Digital River for $22 million), Jambo Media (for $15 million) and Giftcards.com (by Blackhawk Network for $120 million). Pretty impressive. Even more so when you consider how he grew up. After growing up in the Milton Hershey School, an orphanage founded by Milton Hershey, Jason was living out of his car. He taught himself how to code by using books at the local library and CompUSA's 'Building the Perfect Web'. This led to building the first coupon website and launching his first internet business. From 1995 to 2000, Jason built the business, raising $500k in VC from Jupiter Media and garnering >$1 million in annual sales and 20 million page views per month. Today, he is building GiftYa, GiveInKind, and PerfectGift, which have the potential to be his biggest businesses yet. Jason's Challenge; Give more. Be Kind. Pull someone else up. It Takes an Ecosystem to Grow InternationallyJason Nyhus is the SVP of Global Sales at Digital River, focusing on helping brands go global “The honest reality of today is a lot different than it was a decade ago. If you make any product, you are inherently global overnight.”- JasonJust because you're able to take people's money, doesn't mean you will be able to fulfill the brands promise. You have to make sure that you will still be able to deliver an on-par experience. You have to be able to serve the demandThere are two categories to consider:1. Where is the product coming from? Does it have to cross the border?2. Where is the payment being taken? Does that also have to cross the border? The more onshore, the better. Better in terms of products, how long it takes to get there and making sure you have the appropriate payment methods. A brand can really screw up when they go global if they surprise their customers in a negative way.“It's not just your flagship. If you're going cross-border, it's your only ship.” -Brian“A lot of people think that they can execute an international global expansion. The question is, should they do it themselves or should they find help from some of the companies that you have on this podcast? Because I think that's probably the most likely best path for a lot of them.” -JasonAssociated Links:Want to learn more about going cross-border? Jason Wolfe is an entrepreneur through and through. After growing up in the Milton Hershey School, an orphanage founded by Milton Hershey, Jason found himself living out of his car. MyCoupons.com sold for roughly $23 million in 2000, shortly before the DotCom bubble burst.   Jason rolled over his proceeds into successive wins with his companies Direct Response Technologies (acquired by Digital River for $22 million), Jambo Media (for $15 million) and Giftcards.com (by Blackhawk Network for $120 million).   Never miss one of our best episodes by subscribing to the newsletter.     Connect with Jason Linkedin Website jason@wolfe.com

This is an important case from 2014. It is part of our post-Alice software series of Litigation Quality PatentCasts because it’s about an important decision that’s often cited in prosecution literature, in IPRs, and in litigation in favor of patent eligibility for software claims in certain circumstances. Alice is the Supreme Court decision, and it has set the bar and the two-step Alice test for analyzing whether claims are patent-eligible subject matter, or whether they’re too abstract, to be patentable.
