We look at the art of film and television casting today with acclaimed casting director, and gay man, Matthew Lessall. Matthew's latest accolade is an Achievement in Casting nomination for a Canadian "Oscar" bestowed by the Canadian Screen and Television Academy.  The nomination recoginizes his work on The Swearing Jar,  Described as "intelligent, hopeful and heartbreaking", Michael casted  Patrick J. Adams, Adelaide Clemmons, Douglas Smith, and Kathleen Turner as its stars.  A romantic musical, the film is about a music teacher who both loves her husband, and falls in love with another musician. A two-term former Casting Society of America (CSA) president, Matthew was born in London and raised in New York.  After graduating from DePauw University, with a degree in Communications, Lessall moved to London to study acting at LAMDA, but ended up finding his niche in Casting.  With his prophetic eye for great talent, Matthew cast Anna Kendrick in her first major film role, having done the same for many other now-celebrated actors.  His resume includes casts for productions and co-productions for Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, and the UK. Most of his projects have earned Official Selection laurels – and numerous wins - at Cannes, TIFF, Venice, Sundance, San Sebastian, Tribeca, Outfest, SXSW, and a host of other significant festivals, oftentimes securing immediate distribution deals.  With co-host Brody Levesque

As noted in the previous episode, auditions are the backbone of this industry. It is the fundamental job of every actor to do as many jobs as we can and do each one to the best of our ability. But there is an important gatekeeper when it comes to submitting our self tapes or actually getting in the audition room, and that is the casting Director. You've heard from Actors and their experiences in front of the audition table. Well, now it's time to hear from the other side of that proverbial table and what goes in to casting, and the vital role they play in the production for the stage or screen. Daryl Eisenberg, along with fellow casting director Ally Beans, works to create a comfortable space for actors, so they can take risks and really show their full potential as artists. You'll hear Daryl's thoughts on how actors can make their mark in the audition room or on a self-tape, and then you'll get an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at how she uses her position and expertise to make the audition process enjoyable and inclusive for artists on both sides of the table. Today on What's My Frame? I'm joined by casting director LISA ZAMBETTI. Lisa began her creative journey as an actor working on & off Broadway for a number of years. Lisa met casting legend Billy Hopkins who opened her eyes to the wonders of the casting world; and the rest as they say is history! Her insight and personal experience as an actor is evident in how she now works with actors in auditions. Lisa has worked with some of the top casting directors including Kerry Barden, Paul Schnee and Suzanne Smith, Lisa moved to Los Angeles where she worked her way up to assistant with such fantastic CDS as LaPadura & Hart, Debra Zane, Bialy/Thomas and Linda Lowy. Lisa also was a casting coordinator at NBC/Universal where she got to see the network/studio side of the industry. Lisa landed her first associate job with Susie Farris where she worked on many comedies, before moving on to the world of procedural drama where she was an associate and later head casting director of CBS' long running hit "Criminal Minds", as well as co-casting director on the spin-off "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders". Today Lisa shares with us her extensive insight into the casting process, how things have changed for casting and actors in the new hybrid world pre-production. She also shares her insight into the often misunderstood world of video game casting and what an incredible opportunity and door opening job that can be. The Good, The Bad, and The Movies

Oh boy! If you liked "The Cat in the Hat" episode, you are in for a treat here, as this is one polarizing film. This week, the space sluts watched "Space Chimps". This animated movie follows several chimps from NASA and one circus chimp who is the grandson of a former NASA chimp, heading off into space and through a wormhole to encounter alien life that an unmanned probe has found. Along the way, these chimps realize the importance of friendships, trust, and the reality of animals working for humans. Sadly, the space sluts did not realize these things with such grace and dignity within our own group. This episode has everything, from Lukas drinking beers brought to you by Cold Stone, conversations about AIDS and the Casting Society of America, and what Gabagool actually is. Do the chimps actually discover alien life? What is a ham horn? And would a chimp make a good bomb defuser in Iraq? Tune in to find out all these questions and more, but only on "The Good, The Bad, & The Movies"! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tgtbtm/message
