Our Guest: Frank Caldwell. Follow/Contact : —Frank Caldwell is a billboard-charting songwriter who began singing at four years old. Growing up in the church, he quickly took to anything that would allow him to flex his love for music and everything attached to it. By the age of 17, he was the minister of music at his church and began writing songs. His debut album “Confirmation” was released in 2000, and he was one of the few rare artists combining R&B music with inspirational lyrics. He gained the attention of Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, who sought to sign Frank to his now-defunct record label LaFace. Frank released the album, which was sold in 7 different countries, launching him as an international artist on his first album. Frank's music, such as the single 'Bring'em Home (from war)' he recorded for the military, 2 Christmas records, and his recent releases, all carry a message of hope, fearlessness, and perseverance chronicled his now 26-year journey with mental illness. Frank has volunteered for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) by performing his music, collaborating with NFL player Hayden Hurst for his foundation with his song “Panic,” and teaching classes on Ending the Silence surrounding the stigma of mental illness to middle and high school students, as well as HBCU's. Today, Frank is a Certified Mental Health Support Specialist, a Behavior Health Technician, and a Life & Wellness Coach. He has started a private practice Called 2 B Well Counseling Services, serves as a residential counselor for an adolescent mental health treatment facility, and works in Atlanta, GA, as a behavioral health field consultant for the Mental health mobile crisis team, serving the South Fulton area. A man who is passionate about tearing down stigmas, ill-informed opinions, and stereotypes regarding those dealing with mental health challenges, I present to you none other than the man himself, Frank Caldwell. Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds is a pillar of contemporary R&B. As a producer and songwriter, Babyface's discography includes hits for powerhouse vocalists like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Stevie Wonder. Although Babyface's career is most often associated with pop hits, he started writing songs in the singer/songwriter tradition, pulling influence from James Taylor and The Beatles. On today's episode Justin Richmond talks to Babyface about the childhood crushes he had that continue to inspire his songwriting today. He also plays a song he wrote in high school that he considers one of the best songs he's ever written. Actress, singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Caitlin Crosby knows a thing or two about inspiring others. She began writing songs with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds in high school and subsequently signed to his label, Arista Records. Growing up in Hollywood and working in the entertainment industry inspired Caitlin to launch the campaign LoveYourFlawz to support those dealing with body image issues, with the release of debut album “Flawz” in 2009 through Blackledge/Atlantic Records. While on tour, Caitlin started The Giving Keys which employs those transitioning out of homelessness to make jewelry out of repurposed keys. Each key is engraved with a message like FEARLESS, HOPE, STRENGTH or COURAGE. When the wearer of the key encounters someone else who needs the message - they are encouraged to give it away and share their “pay it forward” story. Over the last three years, The Giving Keys has employed 28 people who have struggled with homelessness, helped 22 move into permanent housing, and collected thousands of pay it forward stories. Today, they have over 50 employees and their products are sold at Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Fred Segal, Kitson and nearly 2,000 other retail stores around the world.Caitlin's story and mission behind The Giving Keys has been featured on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, The Today Show, People Magazine, The Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, E! ***** This podcast is sponsored by BetterHelp. I've Got Scars Baby listeners get 10% off their first month at: http://betterhelp.com/IveGotScarsBaby  It's always a good time to invest in yourself. Turn your scars into your superpower! ***** Leon discusses how men handle their scars, how societal perception has scarred both he and his daughter and how childhood victimization has affected him as a man and an artist. ABOUT LEON: He lifts his voice and something just like magic happens.  His first note.  The enchantment.  Your heart opens.  Then you smile.  Leon Timbo delivers everything you need in music. You listen and you know its genuine.  Raw, jagged, unrefined soul laced with pure, silky, captivating vocals.  He delivers transparency. With every emotionally enriched, love-centric tune, his transparency forces us to also be transparent. While others wonder how to categorize the spiritual, folksy, soulful, blues-laden, R&B-spiked, Motown-influenced delivery of the Jacksonville, Florida native, he has been busy being unable to be categorized. His expressive style and range offers logical explanation for his broad-based appeal and in his eclectic authenticity, he has managed to sing his way into the hearts of industry favorites Quincy Jones, R. Kelly, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, and more. Artistically, Leon Timbo is passionate about what love is and what love is not.  He stands poised to be the voice without reservation that expresses accurately the difference between the two. “I feel like the emptiness in musical expression stems from us being afraid to be transparent to not be perfect, to not do it right, to not just say ‘I'm sorry,' but to actually be transparent enough to say why. Without that, I think we're missing a huge piece of what our music is. Being that that's who I am, I feel like I'm special – and that my message is special – for this moment.” Leon's Timbo's Non-Profit Organization UNIFI , and Mentoring initiative “Leon Timbo and Me” uses a collective of artists, advocates, community leaders, activists and do-gooders that have come together to positively impact the community to create change and address the social issues that plague our community. UNIFI seeks to empower individuals and communities through the creative arts and engagement, providing creatives the opportunity to use their platform and influence to positively impact communities and address social justice issues for good. Leon strongly believes that no matter what position you have in life that everyone can invoke change because "Change Begins With Love." #LeonTimbo #AudraBryant #Ivegotscarsbaby You can stay connected with Leon at:  https://www.instagram.com/leontimbo https://www.instagram.com/leontimboandme --- *Free Gift for You: "3 Ways to Turn Your Scars Into Your Superpower":  https://witty-composer-7238.ck.page/7489f6a025 Check out Audra's Music video “Scars”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9omSfX-IMkE For Coaching Inquiries: https://www.audrabryant.com/products You can stay connected with Audra at:  Website: https://www.audrabryant.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/audraabryant                     https://www.instagram.com/ivegotscarsbaby Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IveGotScarsBabyShow  Twitter: https://twitter.com/AudraABryant ABOUT AUDRA: Audra was burned at a year and half, had six surgeries between the ages of 2 and 16 and did not look at herself in the mirror until she was 25 years old. JP Saxe is on this episode of BEHIND THE FAME with Jana Rosenberg and Tony Moras. We talk to JP about his hit songs with two powerhouse female artists in the music industry - Julia Michaels and Charlotte Lawrence. He tells us how these collaborations happened and how the songs came together. JP is an incredible songwriter, musician and vocalist. He's been writing songs for as long as he can remember. His first song that got his fans attention was a song written right after a breakup called "25 in Barcelona". He explains how the song was so personal to him, he didn't feel like it would resonate with others. However, it did quite the opposite. JP dives into the topic of heartbreak and relationships with us on this episode. You do NOT want to miss it! Not everyone may know his same at the moment, but it will not be long until JP Saxe is a household name.  JP Saxe is a Los Angeles based R&B and pop singer/songwriter from Toronto. Saxe’s debut single “Changed” has over 4 mission streams on Spotify and was the 19th most viral track globally on Spotify in additions to the US and Canada Viral 50 Charts. In October, he recently released “If the World Was Ending” featuring Julia Michaels. JP started his career as a songwriter, working with other singer-songwriters such as Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Foxes, Cool & Dre, Jacob Banks to Louis the Child, and Robin Hannibal. Saxe grew up in a creative family as the grandson of Grammy award-winning cellist Janos Starker. He initially studied the cello as a teenager, but later switched to the piano and guitar after discovering jazz and R&B. By the time he was in his twenties, he was posting his songs online and started performing weekly in Toronto. He caught the attention of producers in California, who invited him to record some of his songs, which led him to relocating to Los Angeles. Learn more about your ad choices. O’Bryan is a classic American R&B artist with a distinctive sound and a legacy of hit records. He is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who has taken multiple albums and singles to the Billboard charts and was one of the most popular vocalists of the early 1980s. He is one of the mainstays of R&B radio. His music has been used in television and film and was also a direct influence on artists like The Deele, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, and even the King of Pop, the late Michael Jackson.  A North Carolina native, O'Bryan moved to California as a young man and sang in Santa Ana's Second Baptist Church choir. It was there that he was introduced to Philadelphia International musician and producer Ron "Have Mercy" Kersey.  While O'Bryan's work with a group Kersey was putting together never materialized, the connection did result in an introduction to Soul Train host Don Cornelius, who in turn connected O'Bryan with Capitol Records, where he was signed. Guided by Cornelius genius and business savvy, O’Bryan went on to have great success at Capitol, releasing four albums that made the Billboard R&B Charts. His debut record, Doin’ Alright, came out in April of 1982 and peaked at Number Ten on the Billboard R&B Albums Chart, spawning the funk/new wave/rock single “The Gigolo,” which rose to Number Five on The Billboard R&B Singles Chart. It was followed by a rearranged cover of The Four Tops’ “Still Water (Love),” which hit Number 23.  .

Portland-born Justin Hopkins is the quintessential LA story. A road more musicians are familiar with than not. Hopkins began playing multiple instruments at a young age, self-taught on guitar while simultaneously taking piano and bass lessons from NW Jazz greats Randy Porter and Phil Baker. After a brief stint playing college athletics in California, Hopkins graduated from University Oregon. Soon after, he and his band decided to pick up roots and move to the beach cities of Los Angeles, where he became a regular on an early, and emerging Hotel Cafe scene that would spawn Platinum selling careers for his peers like Sara Barielles and Mat Kearney. All at the same time Hopkins was a focused and dedicated behind the scenes songwriter/producer, behind the helm on albums for Country artists like Brett Young, and in the same evening going to write songs for R&B legend Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds. After several years and a long list of collaborations, Hopkins set out for Solo success, releasing the self-funded "Vol 1: Here Goes Nothing." The expansive, 14 track album took over 18 months to record, but received a heap of critical praise, and set Hopkins off on over 3 years of touring to support the album. He signed with Universal/Pama Records in 2007, releasing "You are where you come from." In contrast, YAWYCF was recorded in 1 week in a parish church house, in a remote village in Sweden, with Hopkins playing nearly every instrument but drums, the album solidified Hopkins' reputation in Europe as the ultimate showman and songsmith. The first single "Why would god come to LA" landed in the top 20, peaking at #10, and it would be several months till Hopkins returned to the US. Upon his return Hopkins focused on what he knew best, being a sideman and supporting other artists. He landed a gig playing with his dear friend Joe Firstman as a regular guitarist in the house band for Last call with Carson Daly. He would later get a personal call from Carson to be on his latest venture, NBC's hit show The Voice, where he landed a spot on Ceelo's team in season 2. Since then, Hopkins has kept busy touring, producing, while also being a serial Entrepreneur. Since 2009 he helped found Showkicker, a crowdbooking™ platform for live bands, developed a software called Sun Number™, that is used by Zillow to determine solar viability for homes in California and the east coast. He is currently a majority partner in an up and coming on demand Photo service called Commish™, as well as a consultant for several major emerging Cannabis companies in both Oregon and California. Most recently he has began making music on a regular basis, collaborating with grammy winners like Krish Sharma (Rolling Stones), Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow), and many more. With a wildly large catalogue of songs ranging from Country to Dance, it's clear Hopkins moves to the pulse of whatever moves him. He currently lives in Redondo Beach with his wife of 8 years and their young daughter. facebook.com/Justinhopkinsofficial twitter.com/jhopsmusicbox

Inspired by the R&B legends—Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Luther Vandross and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds—who have been guiding lights in Avant’s career, the project marks the singer’s first release on the Capitol/EMI-distributed independent label Mo-B. But the set does more than just pay homage to R&B masters. Thanks to Avant’s inventiveness, Face the Music cooks up a tantalizing blend of contemporary and traditional sounds. Jumpstarting the buzz about the forthcoming album is lead single “You & I,” Avant’s long-anticipated reunion with duet partner Keke Wyatt. Already a top 10 hit on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart and currently climbing the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally, the searing love ballad revisits the natural magic Avant and Wyatt conjured on their first hit together, “My First Love.” Like many R&B singers, Avant got his start singing in the church choir. After attending Cleveland School of the Arts, he became the first act signed to NBA legend Magic Johnson’s MCA-distributed label, Magic Johnson Music (MJM). Avant’s 2000 MJM debut album, My Thoughts, spun off the Billboard No. 1 R&B hit “Separated.” That was followed by the top five hit “My First Love,” a cover of the 1983 Ren&eac

Inspired by the R&B legends—Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Luther Vandross and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds—who have been guiding lights in Avant's , the project marks the singer's first release on the Capitol/EMI-distributed independent label Mo-B. But the set does more than just pay homage to R&B masters. Thanks to Avant's inventiveness, Face the Music cooks up a tantalizing blend of contemporary and traditional sounds. “It's a taste of new school and old school,” explains Avant. “You might hear a piece of, say, Stevie Wonder or Babyface, then I spin right back around and offer up some new age R&B. It's a well-rounded album with something for everyone. At the end of the day, Face the Music is about who we are and what we live by; it's about respecting that as well as the music.” Jumpstarting the buzz about the forthcoming album is lead single “You & I,” Avant's long-anticipated reunion with duet partner Keke Wyatt. Already a top 10 hit on Billboard's Adult R&B chart and currently climbing the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally, the searing love ballad revisits the natural magic Avant and Wyatt conjured on their first hit together, “My First Love.”
