Guest host Alistair Hirst returns to Dolby Creator Talks to speak with the audio team behind "Star Wars Outlaws," one of the most successful games of last year. Developed by Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the title delivers a rich, cinematic gameplay experience — thanks to its immersive sound design and dynamic score. Recently nominated for a BAFTA in Audio Achievement, the team shares how they built the game's soundscape from the ground up, mixing original Star Wars recordings with new field material to create unique environments, iconic weapons, and vehicles. They also explain how Dolby Atmos® was used to deepen the spatial realism — from starships above to rain on rooftops — and how their creative approach to sound design gave the game its gritty, signature edge.“First and foremost, we landed on three main pillars... The first of them being a cinematic experience... We really wanted to tell a story using audio... The second was making it a true and authentic Star Wars experience... And finally, we coined the phrase we call the scoundrel sound... It's about keeping the grit from the original trilogy, but also updating the sounds to make them sound fresh and new.”—Simon Koudriavtsev, Audio Director, "Star Wars Outlaws"Joining today's conversation from Massive Entertainment: - Simon Koudriavtsev - Audio Director - Jacob Coles - Lead Audio Designer - Martin Weissberg - Principal Audio Designer - Simon Siegfried Klar - Senior Audio DesignerBe sure to check out "Star Wars Outlaws," available now in Dolby Atmos®, on supported platforms. Please subscribe to Dolby Creator Talks wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode on YouTube.Learn more about the Dolby Creator Lab and check out Dolby.com. Ubisoft's stock value has plummeted 75% over the past 5 years due to politics, consumer practices, incomplete games, and broken releases. Star Wars Outlaws' new creative director Drew Reckner promises big changes after disappointing sales, focusing on revamping combat, stealth, and controls. Ubisoft delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows to 2025 to change the narrative and polish the game, addressing criticism of inconsistent quality. Ubisoft's decision to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows aims to deliver a day-one experience worthy of players' time, rather than releasing a "polished turd". Star Wars Outlaws' original creative director Julian Ger is moving to The Division 3 at Massive Entertainment, signaling potential issues with the project. Ubisoft's AAA titles, developed over years, are struggling due to politics and consumer practices, leading to a downward trajectory in the company's value.

The time has come to review the first triple-A, open world Star Wars game in ‘Star Wars: Outlaws' developed by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment alongside partner Lucasfilm Games. Join us inside the ‘Broken Hoof' for a spoiler-free chat about our early impressions of the game and hear our thoughts for how the next iteration of open world Star Wars could build upon the sturdy foundation that is, Star Wars: Outlaws.

Don't worry, no need to wear protective eyewear to listen to this weeks episode. This week, EA makes a few announcements, some of them late, some of them unexpected, and some of them booed. Ubisoft finally gives us a release date for Star Wars Outlaws, and gives the Prince of Persia a roguelike makeover. Meanwhile, Disney makes big announcements for 2026, Joker gets a trailer, and AMC says "hindsight is 20/20". That and more.
In this episode of Behind Massive Screens, Petter and Dóri meet Johan Flote, Live Producer in the Ubisoft Connect team at Massive Entertainment, to find out more about how his job works and to talk about the open beta. During the summer, Ubisoft Connect launched their open beta. But why did they choose to have an open beta? What sort of feedback has been implemented? Also, what is a Live Producer and how to you become one? All these questions and more are among the things Petter, Dóri and Johan discuss on this episode of Behind Massive Screens.

The Star Wars Outlaws release date confusion started just two days into the new year. IGN initially reported that the game would be landing in late 2024 and then Ubisoft responded. The Star Wars Outlaws gameplay trailer has many fans looking forward to the game, but the release date was simply shown to be 2024. This Star Wars Outlaws news has me concerned that the game will be pushed out too early like Jedi Survivor was. So with the Star Wars Outlaws 2024 release window now in question, I would prefer a delay over a rushed release. Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft under license by Lucasfilm Games. The game takes place during the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Monster Hunter Wilds, Marvel's Blade, Overdose, Exodus, God of War Valhalla… My Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Season Pass reaction is a bit mixed. I think the game looks promising but Avatar gameplay has been compared to Far Cry gameplay quite a bit. But the latest Avatar Frontiers of Pandora trailer gives me a different view of where this game is potentially headed. The consistent debate about how live service games are bad especially in light of the PlayStation live service games seeing half of them pushed back, I've continued to think that ongoing video games need a new way forward. Is Ubisoft charting a new patch with the Avatar game and Star Wars Outlaws? Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming open world action-adventure game based on the Avatar film series developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The game is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on December 7, 2023. We should all have courage like David Zaslav (; ̄Д ̄). Lord Gaben has been required to return to the US for court, more layoffs hit the game development world, and CD Projekt Red is really gearing up for the Witcher 4. Meanwhile The Hunger Games prequel is just wrapping up the box office, Taika wants to make sure his Star Wars will be good, and Chris Evans is totally unware of the return of Cap. My guest today is a writer and narrative designer for independent and blockbuster video games. Born in London she studied English Literature at Kingston University, then completed her postgrad in journalism. She worked as a freelance writer, contributing to the Guardian and the BBC, often covering in games and the lack of representation of people of colour within the industry. In 2014 she took a course titled ‘Writing For Games', which resulted in ‘Before I Forget', an affecting indie game in which you play as a dementia sufferer. In 2020 she joined Massive Entertainment, the Swedish developer of The Division series, to work as a senior narrative designer on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an open world action-adventure game based on the James Cameron-directed Avatar films. She is also writing Windrush Tales, a narrative video game about the triumphs and tribulations of two Caribbean immigrants to post-war Britain, in the world's first Windrush-themed video game.
