Everyone's Irish! Slainte to all of you, and to celebrate St. Patrick's Day we have three Pubs to bring you all the green beer, Irish-friendly menus, and fun on Food Farms & Chefs! We first hear from friend a of the show, McGillin's Olde Ale House and their amazing General Manager, Gabrielle Rubery. As one of the oldest pubs in the country, this local favorite has some fame of its own. McGillin's, which is the oldest pub in Philadelphia, has been in Owner Chris Mullins' family since 1958. It's so famous, that people travel from across the globe to dine and drink at McGillin's. On St. Patrick's Day the green beer is kept flowing, and don't be surprised if you find your future love when you visit. On top of all the festivities that happen throughout the year, McGillin's seems to offer good luck to people's love life...and has seen many couples pop the question in their pub.Speaking of festivities, we spoke with Dooney's Pub's Director of Operations, Ariane Bonnes to chat about how Jim and Mary Dooney started their restaurant & pub, as well as the menu, events, and how the couple gives back to their community. As for their menu, Dooney's offers seasonal cocktails, so look for their Spring drinks menu (out now), and since they are deeply rooted in all things Irish, look for some traditional items, like Bangers & Mash, Shepards Pie, and Guinness Beef Stew year-round.Lastly, we spoke with the Co-Owner of Cresson Inn, Tracy Harding and how he and his childhood friend re-established The Cresson Inn as a neighborhood pub in Manayunk. Originally founded during the prohibition era, the location started as an Inn before being turned into a shoe store with a booming speakeasy in the basement. Over the years the business changed hands (and purposes) within co-owners Sanders and Hardy's families before Tracy & his wife took over ownership. Now, Harding & Sanders are preparing to celebrate their One-Year Anniversary (on St. Patrick's Day), and joined us to let you know all the details!

PHL Diversity is excited to speak with Chris Mullins, Sr. from McGillin's Olde Ale House. Shortly after the Liberty Bell cracked and long before ground was broken for City Hall, McGillin’s threw open its doors. Its beer taps have been flowing since 1860 (the year Lincoln was elected) — making it the oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia. McGillin’s has outlasted Strawbridge’s, the Civil War and even Prohibition. McGillin’s celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010. Family ownership is definitely one of the reasons for McGillin’s longevity and success over the years. Join us as Chris shares his insights about operating a restaurant during the Covid-19 pandemic (the tavern’s second pandemic), his favorite three memories and McGillin's iconic sign collection.
McGillin's Olde Ale House opened in 1860 and remains one of the best bars in Philadelphia. Known for its rich history, world-class beer selection, and allegiance to Philly sports, McGillin's is the place to be for all special occasions. Joey and Frankie interview Chris Mullins who has owned the bar for over 25 years.
Best known for his record-setting performance in the title role of “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, Howard has appeared extensively in leading roles on Broadway and London’s West End. Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, which is more than the number of people suffering from cancer, diabetes, and heart disease combined. Considering this statistic, the current opioid epidemic isn't terribly surprising. And even over-the-counter medications have a variety of side effects that can lead to kidney, liver, and GI issues over time. For many of these people, there's a solution: Quell 2.0, a completely drug-free, wearable device that blocks lower-extremity pain signals by stimulating nerves with high-frequency electrical stimulation. No bigger than the size of a credit card, the device is worn comfortably and discretely around the calf and is the only over-the-counter therapeutic pain device that's been FDA-cleared for use while sleeping. This is important since there is a positive feedback loop between pain and sleep; pain leads to loss of sleep, and sleep loss leads to the exacerbation of pain. Frank McGillin, COO of Quell, joins the podcast to discuss all the details of how the product works, feedback from chronic pain patients who've used it, how long it takes to start working, the device's ability to track quality of life measures to provide users with useful information over time, and the soon-to-be-launched AI-assisted Quell product that utilizes years' worth of data to make the device smarter and more personalized to the individual pain sufferer.
