Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: Lawrenceville Police Say A Scammer Is Pretending To Be One Of Their Officers- Here's What You Should Do   Lawrenceville police issued a warning about a scam involving fraudulent calls where the caller claims to be a police officer. The scammer demands money, typically in the form of gift cards, to resolve fictitious warrants or legal issues. The police emphasize that they never solicit payments over the phone for warrants, citations, or any violations. They also caution residents about spoofing, where scammers manipulate caller ID to appear as if calling from the Lawrenceville Police Department. Residents are urged to verify suspicious calls by contacting the police directly at 770-962-4173 and to inform friends and family, especially the elderly, about this scam. STORY 2:  Four Lake Lanier Boaters Hospitalized After Fourth of July Incidents On July Fourth, Lake Lanier saw two boating incidents, the only ones reported statewide in Georgia. The first occurred at Buford Dam Park when two rented personal watercraft collided, resulting in injuries to three individuals who were hospitalized with lacerations, abrasions, and fractures. The operator deemed at fault fled the scene and remains at large. The second incident occurred at Burton Mill Park, involving a person jumping into shallow water from a vessel, resulting in a fractured rib and hospitalization. Additionally, DNR's Law Enforcement Division issued three boating under the influence citations in the Gainesville region, which covers Lakes Lanier and Hartwell. STORY 3: OLYMPIC BOUND: Brookwood Grad Walker Zimmerman Makes Final US Roster   Walker Zimmerman, a Brookwood High School graduate and defender for Nashville SC, was selected for the U.S. Men's Olympic Team headed to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. Named by head coach Marko Mitrovic, Zimmerman, 31, is one of three overage players allowed on the roster, boasting 42 caps at the senior international level. He's a two-time MLS Defender of the Year and has extensive MLS experience. The team includes 15 players who have featured for the senior squad and 17 with MLS backgrounds. Grouped in A with France, New Zealand, and Guinea, the U.S. faces tough competition starting July 24 in Marseille. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. This initiative aims to enhance the play experience alongside dining, catering to families seeking both entertainment and food options at Chuck E. Cheese locations in Atlanta, Conyers, Fayetteville, Jonesboro, and Kennesaw. STORY 5: ‘My new avenue'- Suwanee author Katy Marshall writes her first book for children Katy Marshall, a Suwanee resident and author, recently shifted from writing adult poetry to creating children's literature with her new book "Klaire and the Pear". Inspired by her youngest daughter's fascination with pears, Marshall found her new path after observing Klaire's innocent curiosity at the breakfast table. The book blends simple storytelling with poetic elements to engage young readers effectively. Marshall's future projects include books featuring her other children, such as "Malcolm the Astronaut" and "Shylah Plays the Trombone", each tailored to their unique interests. In Episode 23 of the How Humans Work Podcast, wildly entertaining Jimmy Conrad joins us for a deep dive into his life in and beyond his tremendous thirteen year career as a professional soccer player. In Let's Make This Matter we get a real and buoyant account of what it took for a lad from Southern California with a profound drive to prove his value, to move from being a perpetually underrated talent into a notable career littered with successes. Equally vociferous, funny and honest, Jimmy breaks down not just the things he did to make himself into a highly respected player who was able to become an MLS CUP Champion, the 2005 MLS Defender of the Year and a starting player on US Men's National Team at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but also the team dynamics, the personal subplots, and the assorted adversities he encountered. Along the way we learn something about what it means to face stress by choice, to “learn to learn” and how one can build the keys to success “brick by brick.” In finding ways to create control and make progress, Jimmy shows us through his journey in the American soccer landscape how his determination, planning and effort came together to get him a place in the Mecca of World Football: the World Cup. Deep in the throws of that career apex, we get an honest portrait of his World Cup experience as Jimmy reflects at length about a handful of key moments where he was called upon to play his part in untenable circumstances. Not only did his play earn him Man of the Match in a pivotable game, Jimmy tells us his one regret from that game. We end the show with a look into Jimmy's present and future. Sharing his coaching approach with his charming and spirited U-10 girls team with his daughter, we learn how Jimmy's values for the game are being imparted to the next generation. We also find out what Jimmy's vision for his future is after his current media run up through the 2026 World Cup in North America. Consider yourself heartily invited to not only listen-in but to stay tuned. Because with the effervescent and authentic jester there's much more to learn about meeting our stresses, taking our game to a higher level, and making this life matter!

It’s been several months, but it looks like the MLS Is Back tournament is FINALLY set to kick off in less than 24 hours. Unless you play for FC Dallas. Or maybe Nashville SC. Or one-fifth of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Or 2019 MLS Defender of the Year Ike Opara. Or, as we learned this week, reigning MLS MVP Carlos Vela of LAFC. But other than those players (and a handful of others…), MLS Is Back! Before the breakdown of the beginning of the tournament, it’s time to introduce the Defenders world to our brand-new member! Scarf likes to refer to him as Director of Arts and Crafts, but, really, the talent that Dexter Quinn brings to the table as our right-hand man on all things artistic is incredible. We are so happy to have Dexter on our team, and, as you can see from some of our most recent posts on social media, the guy is good! We also take a minute to try our best at appreciating the great talents of Vince La Rosa. We wish all the best to Vince on whatever he does next, can’t wait to see him absolutely crush it in his next endeavor, and look forward to our next glass raised together. #HireVince As we continue to celebrate Pablo Sisniega’s birthday, we delve into This Day In LAFC History, where we get BOTH a Rant With Filly and a prediction from Scarfstrodamus! What a segment! Here’s to many, many goals from Brian Rodriguez. LAFC also officially welcomes Andy Najar, courtesy of a brand new, 48-hour transfer window that ended July 7th! We explore roster options for LAFC during the COVID Cup, fresh off the revelation by Bob Bradley that Dio, BWP, and Andy Najar are all not ready to go a full 90. Will that mean more of LMU’s finest, Adrien Perez? Or will Latif Blessing reprise his role as striker? Does that mean more Cifu or Pancho? More importantly, is there any team in MLS deeper and more talented than the Black and Gold? We break down all three matches in LAFC’s Group Stage, including some predictions for our showdown with Carson on July 18. Welcome back soccer fans! The terrible, winter weather has held off just long enough for our hosts to get back to the studio and give you a full length episode of analysis and entertainment. To begin, Nick and Mike break down Orlando City's latest Designated Player (DP) signing in Nani. The Portugese international and former Manchester United star may be 32 years old, but can bring a certain quality to the Orlando roster. Look for him to work the wing, creating opportunities for Dwyer and get the rest of the Orlando squad involved in the attack. Next, Mike gives his take on Darlington Nagbe wanting a trade to reunite with Caleb Porter in Columbus. Mike calls Nagbe overrated, and Nick doesn't disagree. Finally, Aaron Long signs a three year deal with Red Bulls New York, who now can focus on rebuilding their attack after locking down the 2018 MLS Defender of the Year To lighten the mood, the hosts take a look at the new jerseys released by MLS teams this year. The LA Galaxy disappoint, expansion side FC Cincinnati start off solid, and Minnesota United's away jersey has a classic look. Also, Toronto FC's new red, home jersey looks just as terrible as they played in their CCL opener. Speaking of the Concacaf Champions League, TFC and Independiente kicked things off with a 4-0 result in favor of the Panamania home side. Nick appreciated a home team playing aggressively while Mike could barely stand to watch his beloved Reds play like garbage. TFC had no structure, formation, or attacking threat, but at least they can now focus on the regular season. The other MLS teams should fare a better fate with Houston, Red Bulls, Sporting KC, and Atlanta all the favorites to win their first round matchup. In a bold prediction, Nick picks RBNY to win the tournament, while Mike thinks that Liga MX teams will dominate and have all four semi-final spots. What are your thoughts on the transfer news around Major League Soccer? Who's your pick to win the CCL? Let us know on twitter @SOPSoccer and in the comment section below. Thanks for listening, and enjoy all the soccer action this week.
