In the Marvel Cinematic Universe series “Ms. Marvel” and the feature film “The Marvels,” Zenobia Shroff plays Muneeba Khan, the mother of Kamala, who becomes Ms. Marvel. In the show and film, Muneeba is very protective of her daughter. In the series, she takes young Kamala to learn her roots. Her performance has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Shroff has been performing for decades. Her career started in Mumbai, India as a model and actress. She has starred in stage performances and played Kumail Nanjiani's mother in the 2017 feature film “The Big Sick.” In this episode, Shroff explains how she got the role of Muneeba and how it has impacted her life. She also discussed living in New York for over three decades and the limited roles she could take due to being a minority in America. The latest episode of Hyperspace Theories discusses the full story unfurled in the newest six-episode Disney+ series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Ms. Marvel, featuring the origin story of teenage heroine Kamala Khan. Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester are joined by longtime FANgirl Blog contributor Priya Chhaya, an historian and advocate for representation in storytelling and nonfiction alike. First introduced in the comics, Kamala Khan stands out as Marvel's first Pakistani-American and Muslim superhero. Like the comics, the Ms. Marvel series showcases Kamala's family, friends, faith, and community as integral aspects of her personal identity both before and after she acquires her superpowers. At the same time, her story includes universal themes than resonate with audience members who do not share her heritage or religion, such as overprotective parents, sibling resentment, and a multi-generational immigrant experience in the United States. In addition, Ms. Marvel is prominently a story about mothers and daughters, too often still a rarity in blockbuster entertainment and other popular fiction. Kamala's story is also unusual in featuring an intact family unit. The Ms. Marvel series also places significant emotional prominence on an important event in the 20th century history of South Asia: the Partition of India at the end of British imperial occupation, creating new borders and the new country of Pakistan. (Subsequently, East Pakistan became the independent nation of Bangladesh.) The Partition not only sparked religiously motivated violence in India, but also the largest mass migration in human history as millions of Muslim refugees fled to Pakistan. Ms. Marvel highlights the Partition in the flashback love story of Aisha and Hasan, as well as its lingering ramifications in the lives of Sana, Muneeba, and Kamala. Although the Clandestines and the Department of Damage Control serve as Kamala's overt antagonists in the series, Ms. Marvel perhaps suggests that the real villain is the generational trauma of imperialism. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel: A 16-year-old Pakistani-American high school student from Jersey City who is an aspiring artist and avid gamer, and writes superhero fan fiction about heroes such as Captain Marvel. Khan gains the ability to harness cosmic energy and create constructs from a magical bangle. Co-executive producer Sana Amanat said Khan brought a "grounded perspective" to the MCU with "bright and eager eyes". Vellani noted Khan enjoys the simplicity of a life with powers, instead of worrying about high school, boys and relationships, family drama, and culture and religion. She also added that the character "felt so much like me" due to their similar background, ethnicity, and love for the Marvel universe. In India, 1942, Aisha takes refuge in a village, where Hasan, an Indian independence activist, offers her food and shelter. They fall in love and have a child, Sana. Five years later, Najma finds Aisha and orders her to retrieve the bangle. Aisha leaves it with Sana and attempts to flee to the new nation of Pakistan with her family, but Najma finds and stabs her. Hasan and Sana are separated in the chaos. Kamala is able to interact with Aisha, who asks her to guide Sana before dying. Conjuring a projection of stars to lead Sana to her father, Kamala realizes she was destined to reunite them. Returning to the present, she finds that Najma's strike had opened the Veil of Noor, but it vaporizes anyone who interacts with it. Najma transfers her power to Kamran before sacrificing herself to close the Veil. Sana and Muneeba find Kamala and the latter accepts her daughter's powers. Meanwhile, Kamran seeks refuge with Bruno. After being attacked by a DODC drone, Kamran destroys it, but the ensuing explosion obliterates the store below them. This week we recap episode 5 or Ms. Marvel title "Time and Again". Summary: In India, 1942, Aisha takes refuge in a village, where Hasan, an Indian independence activist, offers her food and shelter. They fall in love and have a child, Sana. Five years later, Najma finds Aisha and orders her to retrieve the bangle. Aisha leaves it with Sana and attempts to flee to the new nation of Pakistan with her family, but Najma finds and stabs her. Hasan and Sana are separated in the chaos. Kamala is able to interact with Aisha, who asks her to guide Sana before dying. Conjuring a projection of stars to lead Sana to her father, Kamala realizes she was destined to reunite them. Returning to the present, she finds that Najma's strike had opened the Veil of Noor, but it vaporizes anyone who interacts with it. Najma transfers her power to Kamran before sacrificing herself to close the Veil. Sana and Muneeba find Kamala and the latter accepts her daughter's powers. Meanwhile, Kamran seeks refuge with Bruno. After being attacked by a DODC drone, Kamran destroys it, but the ensuing explosion obliterates the store below them. Partition is coming and Muslims are moving to the new state of Pakistan. Hasan offers Aisha a place to stay and eat and the couple fall in love and have a baby, Kamala's grandmother Sana. As India gets more unsafe, Aisha is confronted by her former companion Najma who has spent years searching for Aisha and wants her to finally come good on her promise and open a portal from this world back to their realm. Aisha placates her saying she needs more time to retrieve the second Bangle. In the intervening twenty four hours she convinces Hasan to go with her and their daughter to the last trains out of India to Pakistan. But Najma tracks her there and, realising that Aisha no longer wants to leave the Earth realm, Najma stabs her and leaves her for dead. With the original owner of the Bangle that enhances her powers now dead, Kamala steps in and completes their families ancient tale by guiding her grandmother back to her father with a burst of stars. With the circle complete Kamala returns to the present and must still face the remaining Clandestine. A gateway to their realm has been opened by Kamala's adventure. But it's not what they expected and it kills one of the final Clandestine when she tries to pass through. With a word about familial responsibilities from Kamala, Najma is encouraged to sacrifice herself and closes the realm gate by sending its power into her disowned son Kamran as he has the power of the Noor as well. As Najma dies, Muneeba sees her daughter's power and realises all of her mothers fantastical tales were true. Back in New Jersey, Kamran is shocked to discover he has a similar command of his powers as Kamala. He seeks out the help of the only other person who knows Kamala's secret, Brian…I mean Bruno. After an awkward start Bruno agrees to help him but they discover they are being watched as a Damage Control drone launches an explosive attack on Bruno's home. In 1942 India, Aisha flees from assailants and takes refuge in a village. Hasan, an Indian independence activist, offers her food and shelter. They fall in love and have a child, Sana. Five years later, Najma tracks Aisha and orders her to retrieve the bangle. Aisha leaves the bangle with Sana and attempts to flee to the new nation of Pakistan with her family, but Najma tracks her down and stabs her. Hasan and Sana are separated in the chaos. Kamala finds herself able to interact with Aisha, who asks her to guide Sana. Conjuring a projection of stars that leads Sana to her father, Kamala realizes that it was she who had mysteriously reunited Sana and Hasan in the past. Returning to the present, she finds that Najma's strike had opened the Veil of Noor, but it vapourises anyone who interacts with it. Najma sacrifices herself to shut the Veil, transferring power to Kamran before dying. Sana and Muneeba track down Kamala and the latter accepts her daughter's powers. This week's episode of 'Ms. Marvel' (11:54) is titled 'Seeing Red' and follows Kamala and her mother Muneeba as they visit the heavily populated Pakistan city, Karachi. As Kamala seeks answers from her grandmother Sana, she's still on the run from the Clandestines and the DODC. Kamala's brother Aamir marries his fiancée Tyesha, but Kamran crashes the wedding to warn Kamala before the other Clandestines arrive. Kamala, Bruno, and Kamran are overpowered by the Clandestines while Najma tries to use the bangle, which triggers a vision of a train. Once someone is cast and under contract, they may be able to disclose their role but that would have to be coordinated with marketing and creative. On Thursday, reports indicated that Jake Schreier has been tapped to direct an upcoming Thunderbolts movie, with Black Widow's Eric Pearson set to write the script and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige set to produce.   It is unclear at this point who could make up the cast of Thunderbolts, a team that traditionally consists of supervillains and antiheroes going on missions, initially to convince the general public that they are operating as heroes. The first comic incarnation of the team was led by Baron Zemo, with other members including Songbird, Moonstone, Taskmaster, U.S. Agent, Crossbones, Abomination, Ghost, and more. The team gets its namesake from General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), but following Hurt's passing earlier this year, it's anyone's guess as to how that aspect of the storyline could be handled. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel: A 16-year-old Pakistani-American high school student from Jersey City who is an aspiring artist and avid gamer, and writes superhero fan fiction about heroes such as Captain Marvel. Khan gains the ability to harness cosmic energy and create constructs from a magical bangle. Co-executive producer Sana Amanat said Khan brought a "grounded perspective" to the MCU with "bright and eager eyes". Vellani noted Khan enjoys the simplicity of a life with powers, instead of worrying about high school, boys and relationships, family drama, and culture and religion. She also added that the character "felt so much like me" due to their similar background, ethnicity, and love for the Marvel universe. Kamala Khan is a 16-year-old high schooler and fangirl of the Avengers, particularly Captain Marvel. After failing another driving test and meeting with school counselor Gabe Wilson, Kamala and her best friend Bruno Carrelli finish her Captain Marvel cosplay for "AvengerCon" while avoiding her strict parents, Yusuf and Muneeba. Kamala receives a package of items from her grandmother including a golden bangle, but Muneeba sees it as junk. After failing to convince her parents to let her go to AvengerCon, Kamala and Carrelli sneak out and attend anyway, taking the bangle as part of her cosplay. After getting there and dressing up, she puts it on, but it causes her to shoot energy constructs, inadvertently causing havoc. Carrelli rushes Kamala back home, where a distraught Muneeba pleads with her to focus on her own story and grounds her. In a mid-credits scene, Department of Damage Control (DODC) agents P.
