We've all probably been incredibly annoyed with our partner at one point or another, and thought (just for a second!) “I could kill them,” then went and made dinner as a perfectly functioning adult. The comedy thriller “Over Your Dead Body” from director Jorma Taccone (“Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” “Macgruber”) starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving as the warring couple, asks what would happen if you didn't let that thought go. What if you actually planned it… and it was a really, really awful plan?And that's what the film is about. It's not about professional killers or brilliant criminals. It's about a couple in a relationship that's on the rocks who think they are clever enough to get away with murder, and almost immediately show that they absolutely are not.What happens next isn't a neat and tidy thriller. It's more like a series of awful choices triggering each other, poorly thought-out plans, and doing things in a panic. The film's style changes as it goes along, beginning as a sharply funny look at a failing relationship, becoming a farcical murder attempt, and then becoming far more chaotic than you'd anticipate.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got two old friends who've worked together on such culture-crushing songs as “Dick in a Box”—one of whom is known more for the music, and the other for the funny. It's Andy Samberg and Asa Taccone. Samberg you surely know for his years on Saturday Night Live and Brooklyn Nine-Nine and tons of big movies. Before all that he was part of the trio The Lonely Island, which blew up on SNL with “Dick in a Box,” among other hilarious jams. The Lonely Island also features Jorma Taccone, and when Samberg and Taccone needed some musical help for their SNL shorts, they would often call Jorma's brother Asa, who helped them shape “Dick in a Box,” “Motherlover” and plenty of other songs. But Asa's less inclined toward the funny stuff that his childhood friends are known for; he's been making his own decidedly less silly music since 2011 in collaboration with Matthew “Cornbread” Compton under the name Electric Guest. The duo just released their first album since 2019, and it's called 10K—you'll hear the meaning behind the name in this chat. As you'll hear, there's no jokey rap to be found, just a compelling mix of soulful pop: You might not be surprised to learn that in recent years Taccone has also collaborated with the likes of The Weeknd and Carly Rae Jepsen. Alexis Hejna and Zachary Strobel present their Knuckles 2024 Miniseries TV Show Review! Knuckles is an American television miniseries created by John Whittington and Toby Ascher for the streaming service Paramount+, based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega. It is a spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series and is the first live-action Sonic television series. The series takes place between the events of the films Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024), and follows Knuckles the Echidna as he trains deputy sheriff Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior. Whittington was head writer, with Ascher as showrunner.Idris Elba reprised his voice role as Knuckles from the film series and stars alongside Adam Pally, reprising his role as Wade. The series was announced in February 2022 during a ViacomCBS investor event, with Elba on board with the project. Production began in London, England, in April 2023, with Sonic film director Jeff Fowler directing the pilot and further casting announced. Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker directed the following episodes. Tom Howe composed the score.Knuckles premiered on April 26, 2024, with all six episodes. Over its premiere weekend, it became the most-watched original series on Paramount+.
