On this episode of Money Grows on Trees: The Podcast, host Lloyd Ross welcomes guest Simon Beard, a successful entrepreneur with a fascinating journey to share. Simon begins by recounting how a business assignment in grade ten ignited his passion for entrepreneurship. Inspired by his neighbor, Big Kev, Simon set a goal in year ten to become an entrepreneur and never work a regular job. After finishing school, Simon ventured into selling electronic items from China at markets. However, he initially faced zero sales due to a lack of active selling and customer connection. Realizing the need to learn sales techniques and connect with customers, Simon followed a pattern of buying products, putting himself in a corner, and then learning how to effectively sell them. Simon's journey took an exciting turn when he invested in a public company and listed it on the share market. He also acquired brands like Princess Polly, experiencing both initial setbacks in the share price and eventual rises. His constant checking of the share price and calculations of his potential worth, which he believed could exceed 500 million, highlights the rollercoaster ride of his entrepreneurial journey. During the COVID pandemic, Simon built an online business and discovered the importance of physical interaction in building a culture. He mentions an upcoming event and encourages listeners to attend. When asked for his number one piece of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, Simon emphasizes the significance of building an audience as a valuable asset. He discusses the importance of personal branding, sharing valuable content on platforms like Instagram to establish goodwill and equity. Simon also emphasizes that having a large audience is a powerful asset, regardless of actively monetizing it. He expresses a desire to support others who have implemented his teachings and built successful businesses. Mentorship and personal development are crucial to Simon, who emphasizes the significance of having the right people around and taking action on knowledge gained from books and courses. Simon shares his experience of working with Jordan Belfort, highlighting the importance of mentorship and the need to take action, not just read books. He mentions using the tool Chat GBT to test his understanding of concepts from books through multiple-choice questions. An impactful encounter with Peter Hedge helped Simon overcome his ego barrier and make sound business decisions, leading to a significant deal valued at 600 million. Simon reflects on the challenges of adapting to the public company environment and his desire to step back from day-to-day operations to become an investor. He believes that AI, specifically Chat GPT, will revolutionize everything and wants to adopt a hands-on approach to learning about it. Simon also shares an anecdote about a missed opportunity involving a waterproof camera case, ultimately leading to the introduction of GoPro founder Nick Woodman. Throughout the episode, Simon's enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, mentorship, and continuous learning shines through. Listeners are encouraged to take action, build their personal brands, and leverage their audience as valuable assets. The episode concludes with Simon's excitement and curiosity about the potential of AI and his dedication to staying hands-on in his entrepreneurial journey. Money Grows on Trees Team

Mikey Goldman is part of the over-prescribed generation directly impacted by the ease at which serious drugs were “handed” out to kids and teens before natural alternatives were even discussed. He grew up with a racing mind, always struggling in school to focus and sit still. Formally diagnosed with severe ADHD and math dyslexia (dyscalculia) in highschool, he was later prescribed Vyvanse in college which led to severe side effects that resulted in a snowballing of prescription drug use including daily prescriptions from his doctor of Vyvanse, Adderall, Klonopin, Ambien, and Xanax.Through a brutal withdrawal period, Mikey eventually got off all prescriptions, and sought to find a natural solution for his ADHD + racing mind. After experimenting with dozens (if not hundreds) of wellness products, experiences, and drug alternatives, Mikey was mesmerized by the benefits of Deep Touch Pressure and weighted technology, but like many people with ADHD, he found weighted blankets uncomfortable. Quiet Mind solves for those areas of discomfort with an alternative in the form of the first-ever Original Weighted Pillow, a convenient and reliable solution for people like me - and it's only the beginning. Prior to launching Quiet Mind, Mikey worked in marketing and social media in the tech industry for companies like GreenPark Sports, Insightly, and Zuora. Quiet mind is his ticket to a joy-filled and purpose-driven career to help people never feel that way.In This Conversation We Discuss: [00:00] Intro[00:59] What are Quiet Mind's products?[01:40] Where the idea of weighted pillows come from[03:26] The weighted blankets trend during the pandemic[03:53] Weighted blankets are cumbersome[04:27] Weighted pillows might be the solution[05:31] The next step after getting the idea[06:30] How Mikey performed “prototyping”[06:52] Finally telling others about the idea[07:11] Figuring the target demographic[07:26] What pushed Mikey to dive in[07:45] What's next after deciding to pursue the market[08:32] Phase 1 for Quiet Mind: Prototyping[09:06] The importance of starting with the right people[10:05] Put your own money in to condition yourself[10:47] Mikey's tiered approach to outside investors[11:45] Sponsor: Electric Eye electriceye.io/connect[12:42] Sponsor: JSON-LD For SEO jsonld.app[13:59] Sponsor: Retention.com retention.com/honest[14:51] Using an adjacent product to get feedback[17:11] Getting the word out there while still under wraps[17:58] Meeting the Gravity Blankets founder[18:34] You need to be careful if you have a novel idea[19:14] The secret to founders' peace of mind[19:56] The product, the founder, and the story[20:50] Why PR is the number one choice for Mikey[21:36] Quiet Mind's SEO strategy[21:52] The timing for SEO and PR[22:39] The biggest challenge for a new product[22:50] Educating audiences with your new product[24:35] Why should get the product to market ASAP[26:12] Lessons with overseas manufacturing during Covid[27:52] Where to find Quiet Mind productsResources:Subscribe to Honest Ecommerce on YoutubeConnect with Mikey linkedin.com/in/mikeygoldmanA wellness brand offering clever solutions to help people suffering from common disorders like ADHD, anxiety, stress, insomnia, and loneliness onequietmind.comFollow Quiet Mind on Instagram @quietmindSchedule an intro call with one of our experts electriceye.io/connectGet your free structured data audit for your store jsonld.appBook your demo today and get 20% off the annual commitment fee retention.com/honestIf you're enjoying the show, we'd love it if you left Honest Ecommerce a review on Apple Podcasts. Show Notes 4/19/21 0:00 - Anthony vs Nick: Is motivation real? You cannot depend on how you feel that day, to allow you to do the thing you need to do. So with that being said what is your “why” to keep it going consistently? 0:02 - Little bit of background on Coach Nick and his motivation. Who Is metaphorically counting on me? My teammates and the people I am going to be up against. I don’t want to be the one to fail my end of the bargain. 0:04 - People that make excuses to cover up the area that they are lacking in. They don’t hold themselves accountable. 0:10 - Not everyone who comes to the gym has goals. As a coach we take the time to correct and perfect movement but for many of the recipients of those corrections is not here to be perfect. 0:15 - You have to do the individual work in order to see the results you want. If you are looking to do double understand flawlessly it will not come with doing them a few times in class every month, more work has to be done. 0:23 - W discuss certain stress levels, common everyday stressors, and stresses specific to each of us. 0:30 - Exercise can help your stress tolerance. We dive into this later in the episode but anxiety can be helped by consistent exercise. In order to perform repetitive exercise you have to be comfortable with a certain level of pain and discomfort which those suffering from anxiety and panic attacks often can’t tolerate. In fitness that pain and discomfort has to be tolerated in order to make progress. 0:38 - As Anthony has previously talked about concerning, The Problem with Weight Loss Podcast, we have our own convention about their “healthy at any size” topic. 0:45 - Society effects all. Diving deeper into the pressure that women and men face in light of being “strong” and how they deal with shame and comparing their physique. 0:54 - Did you ever realize that the symptoms/side effects of eating disorders are also what we tell people to do in order to lose weight? 1:00 - What physical potential are you trying to reach? Very few are trying to obtain that high level athlete life. What are you gunning for and what do you NEED to do to get there? 1:04 - Still on the topic of comparison all four of us give our thoughts on the separate challenges presented with dealing with what we see on social media. And an interesting mention by Anthony, how our family or significant can be our second worst saboteur. —

Nick first started the company in 2002, when he realised that it might be fun to record his surfing antics on a wrist-strap camera. And the rest, as they say, is history: adrenaline junkies, performers and sports stars have been using these incredibly smart and nearly-indestructible cameras to record just about everything ever since. Today, Nick tells us how he sold Indonesian shell necklaces to fund the first ever GoPros; Why it's important to put a deadline on your success; and how it's good to be a little bit scared once in a while. For GoPro, things are looking up.   After a tumultuous couple of years — which saw the action-camera company enter and then leave the drone business, get squeezed harder by increasingly competitive smartphone cameras, and ride a steady wave of criticism of its product line — GoPro appears to have found its footing with the well-received Hero 7 Black camera and a return to profitability.   At the center of the company’s renewal is founder Nick Woodman. Woodman joined MashTalk to talk about what it’s been like to be CEO through such a roller-coaster time. After promising expeditions into media, drones, and 360 video didn’t work out as planned, he’s discarded unrealistic visions for tighter focus. The new GoPro may be less ambitious, but it’s much more confident about what it can offer: high-quality action cameras with a compelling mix of features, value, and usability.
