Our guest this week is a Surfer, skater, snowboarder, and HSS alumni, turned 6-time Emmy nominee and 2-time Emmy Award-winning director. His work spans film, television, and global brand storytelling. He's collaborated with heavy hitters like FX, Netflix, Apple Music, as well as iconic brands including Porsche, Nike, Levi's, Microsoft, and Disney. His creative range even extends into music videos, working with legends like Tom Petty and cutting-edge artists like XG.He directed narrative pieces for the Olympic Channel's Game Breakers, and has shadow directed on major productions like The Politician and the Emmy nominated, Producers Guild Award winning series Shōgun. Now he's bringing that vision to his latest project, Lotus Point, a homage to 90's Surf and Skate culture, inspired by classics like North Shore, Point Break, Thrashin', Rad, Gleaming the Cube, The Goonies, and more. We're fired up to dive into his journey, his creative process, and what's next, we welcome to the show Mr. Joel Kazuo Knoernschild.

Starring Josh Brolin as a young skater caught between rival crews—the Ramp Locals and the Daggers—the film mixes romance, turf wars, and plenty of downhill skating chaos. Actor Robert Rusler (Weird Science, Thrashin', Shag, Vamp) was a big part of some our favorite 80's films. We were beyond stoked to have him on the show to discuss his time as the love interest of Phoebe Cates in Shag, his role as the dynamic leader of the notorious skate crew, the Daggers (and enemy of Josh Brolin) in Thrashin', and of course, as a bully in the John Hughes film that launched his career, Weird Science. Robert is candid about how sobriety saved his life and how gratitude, love and joy changed his perspective and allowed him to see beyond regret. He shares how important his relationship with Robert Downey Jr. has always been, since meeting on the set of Weird Science, the wisdom RDJ taught him about auditioning and life, and how close they remain to this day. Now, normally when the word "boards" comes up in conversation on our show, it's of course going to be a congenial chat about charcuterie - the bougie meat and cheese boards that people love to nosh on but can't pronounce or spell to save their lives.
