The Pittsburgh Steelers have their 53-man roster — but did Omar Khan and Mike McCarthy get it right? Tonight on Steelers Hangover, we're breaking down the biggest decisions coming out of roster cuts, including the Steelers' surprising decision to carry FOUR quarterbacks, what it means for Will Howard and Drew Allar, the biggest roster surprises, and the moves that could shape Pittsburgh's 2026 season.
In this episode, I discuss the latest on the Steelers with Allison Koehler (@AKoehlerNFL). We share our thoughts on the roster cuts to 53, the decision to keep 4 quarterbacks, the trades made, what's going to happen with the offensive line, if Joey Porter Jr will sign a contract, and more!
RUNDOWN Time for an '80s music debate before Mitch unloads on the lifeless Mariners. The guys question resting Seahawks starters all preseason, weigh the new owner's Steelers allegiance, and dissect Seattle's big-money extensions. Rick Neuheisel returns with some ribbing over his Dallas Renegades' 4–6 finish before tackling Week Zero and Bill Belichick's outlook at North Carolina. He favors Julian Sayin among the star quarterbacks, tempers Arch Manning expectations. Uneven Big Ten schedules and the SEC's nine-game grind frame the playoff picture. Brady Henderson sorts through Seattle's initial 53-man roster and explains why some cuts could return for opening night. The Brady Henderson Index gives Nick Emmanwori a 37% chance to play, while Zach Charbonnet's rehab offers optimism. After assessing the cornerback competition, Brady weighs preseason preservation against potential rust. After Toronto's sweep, Brady Farkas and Joe assess Seattle's slim playoff path and clash over whether the Mariners lack competitive fire or simply aren't executing. A botched play at the plate fuels the accountability debate before attention turns to Dan Wilson's future, likely roster departures, and Taylor Ward's struggles. August 31, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 16 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers establishing their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season on Sunday. Alex and I make sure to discuss the surprising release of ILB Elandon Roberts on Sunday in addition to the Steelers trading OT Broderick Jones and RB Kaleb Johnson. We also go over the removal of CB Joey Porter Jr. from the Active/PUP list on Sunday as well as the team placing S DeShon Elliott and OL Jack Driscoll on the Reserve/Injured list as designated to return players. Rookie undrafted free agent DL Kevin Jobity Jr. made the initial 53-man roster on Sunday, so Alex and I discuss that accomplishment and it being a bit of a surprise. We also discuss whether Jobity might wind up on the practice squad by Week 1 should the Steelers not need to move DL Sebastian Joseph-Day to the Reserve/Injured list. The Steelers ultimately kept all four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, so we discuss that in addition to three other NFL teams keeping four quarterbacks as well. Will the Steelers add a veteran safety to their 53-man roster in the coming days? What about another tackle? Alex and I address those two questions during this show. The Steelers will now start the process of putting their initial practice squad together, so Alex and I discuss a few players that figure to land on that part of the team that were jettisoned on Sunday. This 72-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Munaf Manji talks weekend action in the sports betting world. Munaf Manji opens a new season of the weekend rewind show solo on the Straight Outta Vegas AM feed, laying out the plan for a full week of football content, this rewind episode on Mondays once Uncle Dave joins him, a college football pod, a Wednesday preview show, a Thursday prop show with Sleepy, and a Friday picks show built on the injury report. At 2:47 he closes the book on preseason betting trends, underdogs went 23 and 9 and 1 against the spread through the first two weeks, a 72 percent clip, with road dogs posting a 42 and 1 mark, numbers worth watching into Week One. The headline news arrives at 5:04, Aaron Donald is officially coming out of retirement to rejoin the Los Angeles Rams on a one year deal worth twenty million dollars, with playoff incentives pushing the total as high as thirty million. Donald joins a front that already added Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade with Cleveland, and Munaf breaks down how dominant that pairing could become, while expecting Donald's snap count to build gradually as he shakes off the rust. At 7:51 the Rams sit at five to one to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings with no other team shorter than ten to one, and Munaf cites a Yahoo Sports stat that teams which opened as favorites at plus 500 or better have gone zero for 20 all time, asking whether this roster could break that trend. At 9:08 he adds the Trent McDuffie trade from Kansas City and a look at how a stronger defense could shift Los Angeles toward lower scoring games built around Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams. At 11:41 the show turns to a more serious story, Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List ahead of a court appearance on November 17, with Munaf estimating a possible suspension in the four to six game range. At 12:48 he connects that news to the Packers trading for running back Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers, a move he reads as Green Bay preparing for time without Jacobs and potentially leaning more on Jordan Love. From 14:20 onward, the show becomes a rapid tour of final roster cuts, Trevon Diggs released by Seattle but likely practice squad bound, Anthony Richardson and J.J. McCarthy surviving their initial rosters, and Titans wide receiver Xavier Restrepo earning a fantasy shoutout behind Calvin Ridley and rookie Carnell Tate. At 16:07 the Giants keep Darius Slayton and Odell Beckham Jr. while moving on from Jalin Hyatt, with Beckham's comments about bringing a championship back to New York getting a mention. At 16:53 Cleveland's quarterback carousel takes center stage, Dillon Gabriel making the roster, Deshaun Watson holding the starting job, Shedeur Sanders waiting in the wings, and Taylen Green turning heads late. At 17:53 he runs through players opening the year on injured reserve or the PUP list, Micah Parsons, James Conner, Isaac Guerendo, and Kerby Joseph among them, along with the release of Titans quarterback Will Levis. At 19:59, Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III has been cleared by head coach Ben Johnson and is expected ready for Week One despite a groin injury. After a mention of his appearance on RJ Bell's Dream Preview podcast at 21:31, Munaf lands on his best bet of the show. At 23:02 he builds the pick around a quote from Ben Johnson, who said this offseason he wants Chicago to be the highest scoring offense in NFL history, a comment Munaf says grabbed his attention given what Johnson built previously with Jared Goff in Detroit. At 24:20 he lands on Caleb Williams' season long passing yards prop, the number sitting at 3,649.5 on DraftKings but a better line at 3,600.5 on BetMGM. Williams threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in year one under Johnson while playing all 17 games in each of his first two seasons, and Munaf likes him to clear the number in a more explosive year two offense. The episode closes with a look ahead to next week, when Uncle Dave joins Munaf for the first full regular season show, previewing the opener including the Super Bowl rematch and the international matchup between the 49ers and Rams in Australia, ahead of the Friday picks show heading into Week One. The Pittsburgh Steelers preseason is officially over, and now the REAL decisions begin. Mike McCarthy appears prepared to keep FOUR quarterbacks on the Steelers' 53-man roster — Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar and Will Howard — but does keeping both young quarterbacks actually make sense? I don't think it does.

August 28, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 15 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the preseason finale that the Pittsburgh Steelers played Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. We go over several players sitting out the preseason finale in addition to giving our initial overviews and main takeaways from that road loss to the Bills. The Steelers restructured the contract of WR DK Metcalf since our last show, so Alex and I go over the details related to that transaction. We also discuss how the Metcalf restructure is any sort of guarantee that the team will soon sign CB Joey Porter Jr. to a contract extension and why that is. Steelers HC Mike McCarthy gave us a few things to talk about during his Thursday night postgame press conference, so Alex and I pick over those replies. We obviously focus in on what McCarthy said Thursday night about the possibility of all four quarterbacks ultimately making the 53-man roster come Sunday night. Could the apparent head injury that QB Will Howard sustained Thursday night lead to him being placed on the Reserve/Injured list to start the season? We go over the plausibility of that happening and whether we think it ultimately will. Are DT Sebastian Joseph-Day and S Jaquan Brisker each a candidate to start the regular season on the Reserve/Injured list? We entertain that question during this show as well. As usual, Alex and I give our initial thoughts on the play of several Steelers players in the team's preseason loss to the Bills. We start with the quarterback play Thursday night of Howard and Drew Allar and go from there. We discuss all of the offensive position groups and that includes discussing the play of rookie OT Max Iheanachor against the Bills. Has he given himself a chance at being the Week 1 starting right tackle? We attempt to answer that question. Alex and I also go over the play of several players on the defensive side of the football from Thursday night. We go over a few roster spot battles on defense. We also make sure to talk about some special teams play from Thursday night and we make sure to highlight the punt return for a touchdown by Kaden Wetjen as part of that discussion. The Steelers will need to set their initial 53-man roster by Sunday night so ahead of that happening, Alex and I give previews of what are final predictions will look like. We discuss how several final roster spots could go in various directions and especially if any players go to the Reserve/Injured list that could put a fly in the prediction ointment. Alex and I talk a little bit more about the latest on Porter Jr. and his contract negotiations ahead of the Steelers having until Sunday evening to remove him from the Active/PUP list. This 118-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we make sure to answer several listener emails to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
