In this episode of Ear and Loathing, your hosts Aaron, Damon and George (The Gitmo Bros) talk about punchable hair, George zooms in, you haven't earned that corned beef, and did someone just eat licorice and jizz in my mouth? In the Torture Chamber segment, Aaron and Damon compete for meaningless points by making George listen to his most hated music. Will George survive the Torture Chamber long enough to play one of his favorite songs? Tune in and find out! Songs featured in this episode: "John You Went Too Far This Time" (Rainbo), "Give It To Me Baby" (Rick James), "You Take My Breath Away" (Rex Smith)
Listener suggestions are rated on the Yachtski Scale, with songs by Rex Smith, Seals and Crofts, and Ray Parker Jr.
David Waldman and Greg Dworkin present their post post debate analysis and yes, they will be endorsing Kamala Harris for president! They aren't the only ones. Liz Cheney, and her father — DICK! are favoring Harris, along with former AG and White House Counsel, Alberto Gonzales — DICK! On the other hand, Kamala has support from Taylor Swift and Linda Ronstadt (No word yet on the coveted Rex Smith vote) There's also a Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor. Yep, looks like Kamala might have this popular vote thing locked up. Meanwhile, Haitians stealing ducks is the new Blacks stealing chickens, a trope that hasn't really evolved much over the last couple of hundred years, has it? And why should it? Plenty of potential voters yearn for that good old-fashioned anti-American bigoted conspiratorial propaganda. It isn't that Donald Trump no longer knows how to talk to anyone outside his base… it is that he doesn't need to. Trump wasn't joking, he just wants to find those 11,780 votes. Why waste his time and hundreds of millions of dollars trying to influence tens of millions of TikTok zombies, when only a few million bucks of rural doorknockers can move a few thousand nonvoters into an electoral victory? Stephen Miller makes a lot more sense now (relatively speaking), as well as Laura Loomer, who rightfully horrifies Marjorie Taylor Greene as Marge is guaranteed to be the first up against the wall once the new regime commences. And yet we few remaining TV watchers pray that the fact-checkers and undecided voter panels get the job done... C'mon Swifties!

Before Affleck. Before Cox. There was... Rex Smith! Broadway legend, singing star, four times wed, and the first person to play a live action Daredevil. And his suit is pretty much the same bad one as the first season Netflix suit!David Bruce Banner has been on the run for eleven years, and in this 1989 TV movie he comes to The City, where he gets mixed up in the battle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who is never called Kingpin and who is played by John Rhys-Davies dressed like an evil record exec in a 1985 MTV music video. Is it bad? You know it! Discussion of the TV movie begins at 30:12, but if you skip to there you'll miss all the superhero news that's fit to talk about! We will back in a couple of days as this show pivots to covering Ms. Marvel, which debuts June 8th. See you then!
It may be hard for some of us to believe, but this past Valentine's Day – Feb 14, 2022 – marked the 50th Anniversary of the New York opening of the musical GREASE, at the Eden Theater on 2nd Avenue. And next week, June 7, will mark the 50th Anniversary of its official move to Broadway. My guests this week are that Grease's original producer, Ken Waissman, and original director, Tom Moore, who along with Adrienne Barbeau (the original “Rizzo”) are the editors of the new book : Grease – Tell Me More, Tell Me More – Stories From The Broadway Phenomenon That Started It All. Ken Waisman is a Tony Award winning producer who made his Broadway debut with the play And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little. In addition to Grease he went on to produce Over Here! starring the Andrews Sisters, and the long running plays Agnes Of God, and Torch Song Trilogy. Tom Moore is a leading theater, film and television director whose work on Broadway includes his debut with Grease, Over Here!, Moon Over Buffalo starring Carol Burnett, and Night Mother. Their new book is made up of a the personal, behind-the-scenes memories of the show's creative and production teams, as well as scores of cast members from Grease's original cast, five national tours, and record breaking eight-year run on Broadway. In this episode you will hear about how Ken discovered the show in a ramshackle community theater production in Chicago; why Ken chose Tom to direct the show instead of Michael Bennett; how Tom almost turned the show down; and how together they discovered and cast more future stars than probably any other musical in history! Grease alumni include Adrianne Barbeau, Barry Bostwick, Jeff Conaway, Carole Demas, Greg Evigan, Peter Gallagher, Richard Gere, Marilu Henner, Judy Kaye, Rex Smith, Patrick Swayze, John Travolta, Treat Williams, and Adrian Zmed. As well as the future Broadway directors Walter Bobbie, Scott Ellis, and Jerry Zaks. Has any other show produced that many stars? Even if Grease is not your favorite show, I feel certain that you will be fascinated by their stories of how the show came together, as well as the casting stories of John Travolta, Patrick Swayze and Richard Gere. Broadway Nation is written and produced by me, David Armstrong. Special thanks to Pauls Macs for his help with editing this episode, to KVSH 101.9 The Voice of Beautiful Vashon Island WA, and to the entire team at the Broadway Podcast Network. After Warwick left the series, singers Andy Gibb and Marilyn McCoo were brought in as co-hosts and puppeteer Wayland Flowers joined the series as a secondary comedic act with his puppet Madame. Gibb left Solid Gold in 1982 and Rex Smith replaced him, but he too would leave after one season. Following a season where McCoo hosted by herself, she left in 1984 and Rick Dees of the Weekly Top 40 radio show was hired. Arsenio Hall joined the series during this time as the in-house comedian in place of Marty Cohen. At the midway point of the 1984–85 season, Dees left Solid Gold and a series of guests were used in the interim. Original host Dionne Warwick returned toward the end of the 1984–85 season and stayed on through the following season, finally leaving the program for good in 1986.
