During the many years I did stand-up comedy in Los Angeles, you tend to gravitate toward funny, like-minded people as you wait for your turn at late night open mics. Which is exactly where I first met this week's guest, Jordan Olds, before he left L.A. and made his way back east over a decade ago. Cut to 2016 when a hilarious heavy-metal themed talk show called "Two Minutes to Late Night" turns up, and I recognize a familiar face beneath the black and white corpse paint of the show's charismatic host, Gwarsenio Hall! I am so excited to sit down and laugh with Jordan/Gwarsenio on this week's Waterproof Records about our stand-up comedy history and our love of heavy music!

Hack to School month continues with Idle Hands from our hosts' awkward adolescence, and yours too (probably). The film was directed by Rodman Flender, who had a tremendous amount of restraint in taking the chance to reshoot the entire ending to ensure that it was tonally accurate to the remainder of the film. Idle Hands was written by Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer. The team started with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and have gone on to write and produce tons of content. We talk about all of the uhm... influences? that the film relied on, perhaps too heavily in some ways, including most famously An American Werewolf in London. *Cough* Seth Green is basically just Jack, but also really good *cough* Devon Sawa plays Anton Tobias, who perhaps is named after Anton Levay... perhaps. Seth Green plays Mick alongside Elden Henson as Pnub. The team embody stoners as well as Jay and Silent Bob and spookiness as well as Reaper, Deadbeat, and even Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Vivica A. Fox is violent, beautiful hand-hunter, Debi LeCure. She aligns herself with Jack Noseworthy as Randy, the heavy metal heart throb, or whatever. Jordan Olds aka Gwarsenio Hall has returned to discuss Two Minutes To Late Night's bedroom cover series, Splitsville, Prince, The Muppets, uncomfortable nostalgia, and more! Talk to meWebsite - Facebook Two Minutes To Late Night Youtube - Website
Oh man...so excited about this one. We spent time chatting with Jordan Olds, the brains? behind Two Minutes To Late Night. If you don't know Two Minutes, what are you going....click the link below and dive in. Jordan spent the pandemic organizing an incredible group of "Bedroom Covers"...underground musicians covering some of their favorite songs and artists. Well it was underground until he trotted out a cover of Rush's Anthem by Danny Carey, Les Claypool, Bill Kelliher, Claudio Sanchez, Stephen Brodsky, and Jordan himself. That video has over 1.1 million views on YouTube, and subsequent bedroom covers include Jay Weinberg, and even Jay's dad Max (Bruce Springstein) covering The Misfits. Two Minutes just launched a new live stream series called Splitsville, taking inspiration from 7-inch punk splits where 2 bands cover each other's songs. The series takes advantage of Bandcamp's new live streaming concert platform, and it was brilliant, with Cave In and Every Time I Die covering each other (with exclusive shirts and 7" records available to purchase if you bought a $5 show ticket. Both the bedroom covers and Splitsville are generating revenue for all the artists and production people involved in a time when there's not much going on in live music, and Jordan has even been able to raise money for a bunch of worthy causes. One of the good ones folks.Things you will learn about Jordan:The real mission of Two Minutes is to "widen the tent" in metal. Less gatekeepy please. We agree. He has a new kind of loud neighbors even after living the city.Van Halen DOESNOTEQUAL Whitesnake. It was just a poster and the resolution was low.The secret to the success of the channel? No sleep. You too can make a living off of puns. The skinny couch room in all the bedroom cover videos was a happy accident. He has a nice BC Rich Mockingbird bass. Jeff sold it to him...lol.He also has a friend who can do really nice refinish work on guitars...hit him up.During the blind listens, he very much enjoyed that "Vazumnacht is a Krampus inspired dark Holiday EP."Stick around for an epic rant about why singers in heavy bands should just go ahead and take vocal lessons, even if it is goofy as hell. Marilyn Manson is coming out with a new album soon, which begs the question: Is shock-rock still relevant?? Can anything shock us anymore? Is the dude from TRAPT the Marilyn Manson of today because he pisses people off so bad?? Also, Spencer from Periphery says it's nearly impossible to make money in a metal band these days. Is that true? If not, what does it take to succeed?
