I was talking with Robert Pierce from my Solo Cleaning School Elite Membership. He's doing amazing. Robert works as a manager at Target and it's been in retail for 25 years. He found me on the Side Hustle Nation Podcast and decided to start a solo cleaning business. Robert understood the value of investing into his new business as he wanted to shortcut years of trying to figure it out himself. He joined the Elite Membership and has subsequently built his solo cleaning business in 6 months to a lean, professional, and profitable company. I was so impressed talking to him as he shared how close he is to achieving his goal and dream of getting out of retail! I was so excited to hear this. We talked about his plan and how many clients and profit he needs to hit this goal. The main reason for the call was for strategic coaching. He was taking on 1-time and recurring house cleaning clients, but like me, he wanted to get into commercial more. He had a recent opportunity with a tool & die shop. It was set up like any industrial building. Picture a large steel box with offices in the front and huge warehouse and/or manufacturing space in the back. There's a filthy bathroom in the warehouse area and the office space isn't the most pristine either. These are blue-collar workers, running a useful service to the community. Robert did an estimate for cleaning the offices and warehouse restroom 3 weeks ago with no feedback. He wondered if his prices were too high. Our conversation was excellent and I knew it would help others as well.Robert gave a very realistic price of $200 per visit. He estimated the job would take 4 hours per visit and he wanted to charge an hourly rate of $50. Thus, he gave a flat rate price of $200 per visit. I agreed with Robert on his method and the price was reasonable for the work he was proposing to do. However, I knew it was overpriced! Listen to what Robert shared next. "Ken, I found out that this facility had a janitor that cleaned prior. I figure he was there for 8 hours to clean the place and made $12 per hour. I'm guessing the tool & die shop paid $100 per day to have their facility cleaned. I'm asking $200. I figured it would be fine since I'm an outside contractor and would be fully insured." Robert already knew why they weren't calling him back. This was all the opening I needed. He is absolutely right at his $200 price is completely reasonable. I taught him that in the Elite Membership. But... there are two angles to come in on a price. One is COST PRICING and the other is VALUE PRICING.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

I shared a clip from an expert call in our Smart Cleaning Tribe last episode. I have another clip to share. This one is important. I want you to stop what you're doing and ask yourself an important question. If something rocked my very existence tomorrow and I needed time to deal and heal, would I have the margin in my business to take that time? You're either in a crisis, coming out of a crisis, or heading toward one. Never get complacent. Thank you Kate Sloan for your willingness to let me share this clip. If you live in the Montgomery, MN area, make sure to check out Kate's company, Chicka Chicka Broom. They are an excellent company to hire and work for! I also want to give a special thanks to the other members who contributed in this conversation. Kesha Gossett of Your Clean Break in Atlanta, GA, Michelle Allegrezza of Sparkling Homes in Albertville, MN, Jenn Jubrey of Maid Spotless Cleaning in Sand Lake, NY, Carrie Cottrell of Cleaning by Carrie in Galion, OH, Hannah Brees of Shine & Sparkle Cleaning in Dallas, OR, Robert Pierce of This Guy Cleans House in Belleville, MI, and Bryan Morton of KAS Cleaning Services in Suffolk, VA.
This conversation with Robert Pierce, Founder of This Guy Cleans House, touches on all the important topics: -Leaving Corporate Leadership in big box retail to start a dream of small business ownership -Solving problems for people. -How to be a great leader -Real men cry And so much more that you will want to tune in for!

More than anything, Beatrice longs to be a schoolgirl. But in her small African village, only children who can afford uniforms and books can go to school. Beatrice knows that with six children to care for, her family is much too poor. But then Beatrice receives a wonderful gift from some people far away—a goat! Fat and sleek as a ripe mango, Mugisa (“luck”) gives milk that Beatrice can sell. With Mugisa's help, Beatrice's dream may come true after all! After his father died, Kojo had to quit school to help his mother collect firewood to sell at the market. When his mother receives a loan from some village families, she gives a little money to her son. With this tiny loan, Kojo buys a hen. A year later, Kojo has built up a flock of 25 hens. With his earnings Kojo is able to return to school. Soon Kojo's farm grows to become the largest in the region. Kojo's story is inspired by the life of Kwabena Darko, who as a boy started a tiny poultry farm just like Kojo's, which later grew to be the largest in Ghana, and one of the largest in west Africa. Kwabena also started a trust that gives out small loans to people who cannot get a loan from a bank. One Hen shows what happens when a little help makes a big difference. The final pages of One Hen explain the microloan system and include a list of relevant organizations for children to explore. Givers, Doers, & Thinkers—A Podcast on Philanthropy and Civil Society
Wrapping up season two of Givers, Doers, & Thinkers, Jeremy talks with David Patrick King about faith-based nonprofits and how evangelical Christianity specifically has helped shape America's philanthropic landscape.David is the Karen Lake Buttrey Director of the Lake Institute on Faith and Giving and Associate Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. His research interests broadly include exploring the practices of 20th and 21st century American and global faith communities and, more specifically, investigating how the religious identity of faith-based nonprofits shapes their motivations, rhetoric, and practice. And he is the author of the recent book, God's Internationalists: World Vision and the Age of Evangelical Humanitarianism (UPenn Press 2019), which traces the seventy-year history of World Vision, the world's largest Christian humanitarian organization, as a lens into the religious history of international relief and development organizations.Jeremy and David discuss the longevity of religion-sourced giving in light of the growing demographic of "nones" and what that means for philanthropy moving forward, given that the majority of charitable gifts come from faith-oriented givers. David offers insights to congregations on their fundraising messaging and suggestions about connecting with younger givers and preparing older givers to leave a lasting legacy with the organizations they cherish the most. They also get into fascinating details behind the creator of World Vision International, Robert Pierce, an American Baptist minister and relief worker whose personality was one for the books—literally. And last but not least, you'll hear from senior consultant Abigail Alberti about the wisdom of planned giving programs and why it is easier to get started than you might think. She demystifies "legacy fundraising" and shares how to implement this tool into your development strategy. You can find Givers, Doers, & Thinkers here at Philanthropy Daily, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, Buzzsprout, and wherever you listen to podcasts. We'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, questions, and recommendations for the podcast! © copyright all rights reserved by Karsten Mantei This episode is also available as a blog post: http://missionconnects.net/2021/04/01/ostergruss/
