Benedikt Weibel wächst in den 1960er-Jahren auf, einer Zeit des Aufbruchs und der Träume. Als er die Beatles zum ersten Mal hört, verblassen die grauen 1950er-Jahre schlagartig. Ein schillerndes und unbeschwertes Jahrzehnt der Weltgeschichte beginnt. Weibel feiert das Leben, wird früh Vater. Und reibt sich an seinen bürgerlichen Eltern. Doch der Rausch weicht bald der politischen Ernüchterung, Weibel wird Pragmatiker. Er studiert Betriebswirtschaft, promoviert und übernimmt 1993 die Leitung der SBB. In dieser Funktion streicht das SP-Mitglied Weibel rund 12000 Stellen, strafft Strukturen und prägt mit der Bahn 2000 die Schweizer Bahngeschichte. Nach 14 Jahren tritt er Ende 2006 als SBB-Chef zurück. Weibel ist ein begnadeter Kommunikator, ein leidenschaftlicher Leser und ausgebildeter Bergführer. Wie ihn Herkunft und Zeitgeist geprägt haben und welche Erlebnisse ihn bis heute begleiten, erzählt er in «Musik für einen Gast» bei Simon Leu. In recent weeks we've looked at ferrosilicon, advanced anode materials, and so I wanted to examine a market like boron which is underfollowed relative to some of the more familiar materials like lithium or cobalt. I was surprised to learn just how ubiquitous boron is in multiple sectors of the economy and clearly governments agree with both the US and UK classifying Boron as a critical metal.
