My guest on the show today, Sheriff Mark Lamb, walked away from a successful business career, stepped into a police academy in his thirties, and never looked back. He went on to become one of the most recognized law enforcement figures in America. On this episode of the Cops and Writers Podcast, we take a look at how it all started for Sheriff Mark Lamb. Mark Lamb is known as "America's Sheriff.” He served as the 24th Sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona, overseeing a county the size of Connecticut with over 600 employees. Before entering law enforcement, he was a business owner for over a decade and didn't join law enforcement until his thirties, yet he quickly rose through the ranks. Valedictorian of his training class, Rookie of the Year, Officer of the Year, and Detective of the Year.He served as sheriff from January 2017 through December 2024, and ran for U.S. Senate in 2024, losing the Republican primary to Kari Lake. Sheriff Mark Lamb is the elected sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona, a position he has held since 2017. Both sides agree that work needs to be done to secure our southern border. Dr. Phil first heads to Arizona to find out why there is a super-highway for illegal crossings down there. It's been nicknamed the "Smuggler's Highway" …right on Interstate 10, which runs through California and Arizona. It's become the most popular route for smugglers from Mexico. But Sheriff's deputies in Pinal County, say it isn't just cartels smuggling migrants…it's American teenagers. Right in the thick of it all, Sheriff Mark Lamb says the drugs and people being trafficked through this "highway" are ending up in cities all across America. In fiscal year 2023 alone, Arizona had more than 775,000 illegal border crossers. That's a whole lot of people slipping through the cracks. Arizona Sheriff Mark Lamb raises the alarm in an uncomfortable truth, that slavery of women and children ‘prospering' under the open southern border.
