Randee and her mom are very close. They have a wonderful relationship and Randee says "she's my best cheerleader." A lot of that has to do with the honesty and open communication that they had from the very beginning-"adoption was normal, not a stigma, not a tragedy." Also, Randee learned at a young age that just because you are blood related doesn't guarantee you a loving relationship.Lois was definitely a role model to Randee. But Randee also feels that she learned from things that Lois did and didn't t do and then would form her own opinions. Randee had the luxury of knowing that her mom "always had my back.".Unfortunately, growing up in the 70's, Randee's parents divorced and her mom went to work. She was able to get contract work, writing and editing government contracts. It was a stressful time for Lois, but she made the best of it. For example, her office didn't have a window, so she decided to put a picture of a window up on the wall. That made it feel so much better."The Only Songs We're Singing," was released April 2025 and "Leave No Trace" will be released August 2025.In “The Only Song Worth Singing”, the power of friendship is one of the major themes blended with myth and the power of music. Imagine Irish folklore combined with mysticism – makes for a magical read. She's also written Amazon Bestseller, Tune in Tomorrow and co-wrote the popular, The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion and co-edited, Across the Universe: Tales of Alternative Beatles.Randee Dawn's Bio:Randee Dawn is a Brooklyn-based author and journalist focusing on speculative fiction across the categories (science-fiction, fantasy and horror) at night, while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications including Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times and Emmy Magazine. You may have seen my name in other publications over the years, including Soap Opera Digest and The Boston Phoenix, E! Online, New Musical Express and Mojo. I contributed to a French book about American television, Les Series Tele and co-authored (with Susan Green) The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion.I've got a fair amount of short fiction in anthologies, and authored the short story/poetry compilation Home for the Holidays. I'm currently represented by Bridget Smith at JABberwocky Literary Agency, and I frequently appear at conventions and workshops on panels and to give readings. My first novel, Tune In Tomorrow, was published by Solaris/Rebellion in 2022. Arc Manor will publish my next two novels in 2025: The Only Song Worth Singing (April) and Leave No Trace (August). My degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University is occasionally useful, though I'm pleased to have a paralegal certificate from New York University.Currently, I reside with the love of my life and an adorable West Highland Terrier (who is also quite lovable). Nikki Auberkett joins me for an uplifting chat about the magic of storytelling and her inspiring journey in the indie publishing world. From designing her own eye-catching book covers to weaving intricate tales with elements of fantasy and sci-fi, Nikki's story is about creativity and passion. Author Bio: As a cultural anthropologist with a focused background in archaeology and global folklore, I weave real-world discoveries and intercultural theories into my fictional works. My current series, Song of the Sidhe, combines fantasy storytelling with "what if?" concepts, from the fae folk living in (and potentially having built) downtown Chicago to the mythological Fomorians existing within marginalized communities around the world.Ithandryll was long-listed in the 2023 Page Turner Book Awards, received an Honorable Mention in the 2023 Readers' Favorite Book Awards, a 5-Star Review from Readers' Favorite, and a 5-Star Review from Midwest Book Review. After living in downtown Chicago before, during, and after the pandemic, I entered my "Stars Hollow Phase" and relocated to a small village cluster in Iowa known as The Amana Colonies. I started an indie bookstore, BumbleBooks, which is currently a "pop-up situation" inside the village's new herbs & tea shop, Serenity Sage. Book Blurb (Ithandryll):Moving to Chicago should have felt like a dream come true, but for Roxanna Lovegood, it's a last-ditch effort to run away from a nightmarish past. When mysterious creatures break into her new apartment, curiosity leads her to a puzzling artifact buried under the floorboards. It takes her from the shores of Lake Michigan to the forest of a distant realm where she's surrounded—and threatened—by people and creatures she's only heard of in fairytales.Devon is a mischievous fae determined to figure out how Roxi wound up there to begin with. He's even more determined to send her back home. There are secrets to keep and his own set of wounds unwilling to heal, and the last thing he wants or needs is this outsider questioning—and challenging—everything he thought he knew.CONTENT WARNING: This book and the series covers topics and heavy material such as slavery, human trafficking, assault of various natures, and crude language. While violence does occur, it is not and will not be overtly graphic in nature (I do have my limits). In this third episode in our special Supernatural Stories series, host Rachel White (of TOTEM Readings) chats with client and friend Natalie Fehlner (of Sidhe) all about her real deal, actual, lived experience GHOST STORY.Spooky stuff, guys. But also, very funny and very cool! This story starts with a totally innocent musical theater production, which seemed to stimulate a spirit to commit great feats of spectral strength. Turns out: a notoriously cranky stage hand had passed away in that very location, and his haunting was just a continuation of his famous antics while alive!Natalie shares everything that went "thud" (literally), and shared more about how this experience kindled her curiosity about all things Woo and her still-unfolding spiritual awakening, which now includes psychic readings, astrology, and channeled art.Ghosts are super fun stuff, guys. After all: they're just people! Long time listener and friend of the show Drew (LP McQuack in the Discord) joins us this episode to discuss one of our favorite SnakeBros topics - the Little People. Fairies, the Fae, the Good Folk, the Sidhe... they are known by many names and come in many forms. My guest on this episode is Gina Martin, founding mother and High Priestess of Triple Spiral of Dún na Sidhe, a pagan spiritual congregation in the Hudson Valley of New York. She is a ritualist, teacher, healer, mother, and writer of sacred songs. Her When She Wakes series, which includes the titles Sisters of the Solstice Moon, Walking the Threads of Time, and She Is Here, are published by Womancraft publishing. She is the curator and composer of WomEnchanting: a Compendium of Sacred Songs and Chants. Gina is also a practitioner of Classical Chinese medicine and a Board Certified licensed acupuncturist. She lives as a steward of the land that previously held a village of the Ramapough Lenape where people can come together now to remember the Old Ways. On this episode we discuss:How Gina's early experiences in the Catholic church informed and shaped her views on ritual and ceremonyGina's relationship with the Sacred Feminine, and why she feels like despite it all, she often needs to be dragged out into the light as a celebrant of the Goddess (plus some of her experiences in doing so)Gina's "When She Wakes" series, including her inspiration behind it, and the often ephemeral line between fiction and realityHer understanding of time, and how this appears in her book series, particularly book twoHow the language we speak defines our realityAnd much more!
