Our three part season filmed in Ireland begins!Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) is likely the most famous figure in Irish mythology, leading the legendary band of warriors known as the Fianna (Fenians) through an epic mythic cycle. On his adventures, Fionn encounters a giant, a fire-breathing goblin, and a magic fish containing all the world's knowledge. Maybe the Salmon of Knowledge can explain what the fierce warrior is doing dressed up like a baby?We will explore how, even a thousand years after his tragic final battle, Fionn mac Cumhaill inspired revolution and cultural revival in Ireland. The many-skilled warrior demonstrates an ancient ideal that any of us can carry into modern life.Mythos & Logos are two ancient words that can be roughly translated as “Story & Meaning.”Support the channel by subscribing, liking, and commenting to join the conversation!Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/mythosandlogos00:00 Introduction00:12 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid00:35 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid01:12 Fionn mac Cumhaill with the Red Light of Battle Shining Around his Head by Beatrice Elvery01:47 Boyhood Deeds of Fionn mac Cumhaill02:39 Druidess by Alexandre Cabanel03:45 The Riders off the Sidhe by John Duncan04:04 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid04:12 Augusta Gregory, Gods and Fighting Men04:59 Oscur Leaning on his Left Arm by Beatrice Elvery05:21 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid05:30 The Salmon of Knowledge06:19 Connla's Well by Justin McCarthy07:30 The Fighting Fianna07:58 Illustration from Heroes of the Dawn by Beatrice Elvery08:49 Ossian on the Bank of the Lora by François Gérard09:03 Illustration from Heroes of the Dawn by Beatrice Elvery09:31 The Giant's Causeway10:46 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid11:29 Sadhbh by Arthur Rackham11:36 A Legend of Knockmany by John D Batten13:02 The Fianna's Final Fight13:41 Illustration from Myths & Legends; The Celtic Race by Stephen Reid14:41 Conclusion: Fionn mac Cumhaill's Legacy16:57 Portrait of William Butler Yeats by John Butler Yeats17:40 OutroAll works of art are public domain unless stated otherwise. In this seventh episode of the 11th season of The Skeptical Shaman podcast, host Rachel White (of TOTEM Readings) chats with friend of the show and Skeptical Shaman podcast editor Natalie Fehlner (of Sidhe) all about Natalie's strange, strange journey into weird world of online dialogue-- and what it revealed about the spiritual reality underpinning surface-level ideology.Natalie experienced a pronounced spiritual trauma when accidentally encountering the hyper-violent images of Charlie Kirk's death online. While not a right wing Christian nationalist herself (I mean, Natalie is a fairy-channeling astrologer, poet and theater teacher, among other things!), she was gobsmacked by the reaction of "her team": the supposedly compassionate, open-minded, and ideologically consistent, spiritually-aware group to which she and many other Woo-based practitioners generally belong.Shocked by the cognitive dissonance of it all, Natalie did the unthinkable: she entered into the online colosseum to battle it out with anonymous faces (and voices) on the inter web. What she learned from this experience has not only served as a major spiritual and societal awakening for her, but also served as her inspiration to get educated and certified in cult awareness, ultimately setting out into the world to help deprogram her fellow humans that are ready to leave their distorted, ideological prison and enter the real world.Rachel's LINKS:TOTEM Readings Website: https://www.totemreadings.comTOTEM Readings Substack: https://totemrach.substack.comRachel's Other Links: https://linktr.ee/totemrachPlease support the Sponsors of The Skeptical Shaman Podcast:Buy The Business of Woo book HERE: https://a.co/d/0g7EFJmMTOTEM + PUCK HCKY Merch Drop: https://puckhcky.com/collections/totemThe TOTEM Flower Essence Deck: https://a.co/d/gw16LsGThe TOTEM Flower Essences: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TotemReadingsATXTOTEM Spiritual Transformation Coaching: https://www.totemreadings.com/coachingTOTEM Business of Woo Mentoring: https://www.totemreadings.com/business-of-wooOur guests' links:Natalie's Substack: https://nataliesidhe.substack.com/?utm_source=global-searchNatalie's IG: https://www.instagram.com/nataliesidhe/Natalie's Etsy Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/NatalieSidhe Please note: The views and opinions expressed on The Skeptical Shaman do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the podcast. Folkways welcomes back esteemed guest Thomas Sheridan!
As always a bit of rambling, a theory about a book series we tend to talk about often and a look at two fairy folklore, this episodes a bit shorter then usual due to some time constraints
Volume One of Daphne Charters' Collected Fairie ManuscriptsBy Daphne Charters (Author) & Michael Pilarski (Editor)This book offers readers of all ages an incredible view into the lives of 34 intelligent fairies. True fairy tales told by the fairies themselves.Plant fairies live wherever there are plants, even in the cities. In 1950, Daphne Charters who lived near the edge of a town in England began to see the fairies who lived in her neighborhood. Eventually Daphne became their good friend. Daphne had ongoing friendships with these fairies for forty years. Over the years Daphne worked with 34 individual fairies from two groups of nature fairies and one group of house fairies. The fairies told Daphne about their lives, their exploits, their work and their spiritual development. Daphne wrote it all down. The Collected Fairy Manuscripts of Daphne Charters are one of the great, fairy literary treasures of the twentieth century. Hitherto these manuscripts have been available only to a few. Daphne's writings offer one of the most intimate looks into the lives of the fairies available today. These stories will take you to fairyland. Enjoy the journey.Michael Pilarski has been consciously working with the subtle realms since the 1970s. He is the founder of the Fairy & Human Relations Congress which has happened annually since 2001. The Congress is about communication and co-creation with the various fairy realms. They also have an online Gaian Congress in January. Michael has a website called “The Fairy Library” which has a bibliography of over 200 books on the Nature Spirit and Sidhe realms. The higher levels of the Nature Devas are very long-lived and their consciousness expands back into ancient times. Every sacred site has fairy beings that work with it and they can be another source of information for those who can contact them. Michael is also the founder of the Global Earth Repair Foundation and works on the physical and subtle realms for Earth regeneration and ecosystem restoration. Randee and her mom are very close. They have a wonderful relationship and Randee says "she's my best cheerleader." A lot of that has to do with the honesty and open communication that they had from the very beginning-"adoption was normal, not a stigma, not a tragedy." Also, Randee learned at a young age that just because you are blood related doesn't guarantee you a loving relationship.Lois was definitely a role model to Randee. But Randee also feels that she learned from things that Lois did and didn't t do and then would form her own opinions. Randee had the luxury of knowing that her mom "always had my back.".Unfortunately, growing up in the 70's, Randee's parents divorced and her mom went to work. She was able to get contract work, writing and editing government contracts. It was a stressful time for Lois, but she made the best of it. For example, her office didn't have a window, so she decided to put a picture of a window up on the wall. That made it feel so much better."The Only Songs We're Singing," was released April 2025 and "Leave No Trace" will be released August 2025.In “The Only Song Worth Singing”, the power of friendship is one of the major themes blended with myth and the power of music. Imagine Irish folklore combined with mysticism – makes for a magical read. She's also written Amazon Bestseller, Tune in Tomorrow and co-wrote the popular, The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion and co-edited, Across the Universe: Tales of Alternative Beatles.Randee Dawn's Bio:Randee Dawn is a Brooklyn-based author and journalist focusing on speculative fiction across the categories (science-fiction, fantasy and horror) at night, while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications including Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times and Emmy Magazine. You may have seen my name in other publications over the years, including Soap Opera Digest and The Boston Phoenix, E! Online, New Musical Express and Mojo. I contributed to a French book about American television, Les Series Tele and co-authored (with Susan Green) The Law & Order: SVU Unofficial Companion.I've got a fair amount of short fiction in anthologies, and authored the short story/poetry compilation Home for the Holidays. I'm currently represented by Bridget Smith at JABberwocky Literary Agency, and I frequently appear at conventions and workshops on panels and to give readings. My first novel, Tune In Tomorrow, was published by Solaris/Rebellion in 2022. Arc Manor will publish my next two novels in 2025: The Only Song Worth Singing (April) and Leave No Trace (August). My degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University is occasionally useful, though I'm pleased to have a paralegal certificate from New York University.Currently, I reside with the love of my life and an adorable West Highland Terrier (who is also quite lovable). Turns out: a notoriously cranky stage hand had passed away in that very location, and his haunting was just a continuation of his famous antics while alive!Natalie shares everything that went "thud" (literally), and shared more about how this experience kindled her curiosity about all things Woo and her still-unfolding spiritual awakening, which now includes psychic readings, astrology, and channeled art.Ghosts are super fun stuff, guys. Welcome to the Fairy Whispering podcast, where we delve into real encounters with fairies and the otherworld. I'm Claire, your Fairy whisperer and host. Join me as we explore who or what fairies are, how they reach out to us, and why they've connected with us for so long. This episode features Billy G W Morgan, who shares his fascinating experiences with a type of fairy called the Sidhe and with Bigfoot, or the Woodwoes as it's sometimes known in the UK. This is the first part of a two-part series, with the second part coming out next Wednesday. Billy's journey takes us from South Shields, England, to County Cavan, Ireland, with encounters ranging from seeing pixie boots to hearing crashing trees and eventually meeting "the forgotten people" in a meditative state. Thank you to artist CG Michaels for the stunning artwork of Bigfoot for this episode. Long time listener and friend of the show Drew(LP McQuack in the Discord) joins us this episode to discuss one of our favorite SnakeBros topics - the Little People. Fairies, the Fae, the Good Folk, the Sidhe....they are known by many names and come in many forms. In this episode, the first of a series on this topic, Drew takes us through a collection of tales of the Little People, with weird common elements and high strangeness. Executive Producers: Jess Redmon Andrea Johnson
