SEND ME A TEXT MESSAGE NOWThe global economic landscape trembles as gold prices shatter records, reaching an unprecedented $3,000 per ounce. Financial experts describe this precious metal as the "panic asset of choice," reflecting deep investor anxiety about President Trump's erratic trade policies and mounting geopolitical tensions. The immediate consequences are already visible in consumer sentiment, which has plummeted to its lowest level since November 2022, marking a stark reversal from post-election optimism.Meanwhile, international relations continue deteriorating on multiple fronts. The Pentagon reportedly explores military options for the Panama Canal, prompting firm sovereignty declarations from Panamanian officials. Canada transitions leadership as Mark Carney replaces Justin Trudeau amid growing tensions with its largest trading partner. Perhaps most concerning are Trump's repeated claims about annexing Greenland "for international security," which have forced the territory's Prime Minister to rally party leaders in strengthening their rejection of such designs.Americans themselves appear increasingly skeptical of their president's foreign policy approach. Nearly 60% believe Trump's handling of the Ukraine-Russia conflict is unlikely to bring long-term peace, with views breaking sharply along partisan lines. This polarization extends to perceptions of international allies and adversaries, revealing a nation deeply divided in its worldview. Amidst these human conflicts, scientists offer a welcome distraction with their discovery of the source behind mysterious radio pulses from within our Milky Way – a reminder that even as earthly affairs grow increasingly chaotic, the universe continues revealing its secrets to those patient enough to observe and analyze its patterns. What do you believe is driving this global instability? Is it primarily leadership decisions, economic factors, or something deeper in our social fabric? Share your thoughts and subscribe to continue exploring these critical developments together.AWorldGoneMadPodcast@gmail.com

Wall Street faced a significant downturn as NVIDIA plunged 18%, leading the broader tech selloff sparked by China's cheaper AI model, DeepSeek. The disruption triggered a global revaluation of U.S. tech stocks, with NVIDIA losing more than $500 billion in market value—the largest single-company rout in market history. The tech-driven selloff pushed U.S. Treasury yields to multi-week lows as investors flocked to safe-haven assets. Meanwhile, China’s economic outlook dimmed further, with manufacturing activity hitting a five-month low. Amid the turbulence, Pepsi emerged as the most improved group in the consumer staples sector, climbing 4%. On the other hand, commodities saw declines, with oil prices dropping 3% ahead of China’s Lunar New Year holiday and gold retreating as investors liquidated positions. Looking ahead, Aussie shares are expected to dip on Tuesday, with the Aussie dollar under pressure as DeepSeek-driven concerns sap risk appetite globally. Shoot us a Text.Donald Trump's return to the White House could disrupt the auto industry's EV ambitions. Plus, Elon Musk's advisory role with the new administration and his plans for autonomous tech. And, IKEA opens its first stand-alone restaurant in London.Show Notes with links:Former President Donald Trump has won the 2024 election, and his return could lead to major shifts for the auto industry, especially around electric vehicle (EV) policies, trade, and incentives. Here's what might be in limbo for automakers:EV Regulations: Trump may roll back aggressive EV mandates set under Biden, reducing pressure on automakers to hit strict electrification targets.Tax Credits: Biden-era EV tax credits could be at risk, impacting demand and profitability for manufacturers deeply invested in electric tech.California's Emission Standards: Trump might revoke California's right to set its own emissions standards, affecting states that follow its lead.Trade Policies: Trump may tighten restrictions on Chinese vehicle parts, intending to boost domestic production but likely increasing vehicle costs. The Elon factor: Here's how Musk's involvement could shape auto policies and beyond:Trump has proposed forming a government efficiency committee led by Musk, aiming to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. Musk has already expressed his interest in reducing government spending by 30%.Musk advocates for a unified federal approval process for autonomous vehicles, reducing state-by-state regulatory inconsistencies. He commented, “If there is a department of government efficiency, I'll try to make that happen.”While Trump is generally less favorable toward EV mandates, analysts speculate that Musk's influence may push for selective pro-EV policies that align with Tesla's interests.Musk, a long-time proponent of U.S.-based manufacturing, may support Trump's trade stance on limiting Chinese parts imports, which could impact supply chains and costs for EV makers.Tesla stocks spiked 15% following the election, underscoring investor optimism over Musk's potential influence in the new administration.General Motors has claimed the number two spot in EV sales in the U.S. for Q3 2024, with 32,000 EVs sold across multiple brands. Ford, however, disputes GM's approach to these numbers.GM's EV lineup includes the Chevy Silverado, Blazer, Equinox EVs, GMC Hummer EV, and Cadillac Lyriq, all on the Ultium platform.GM has sold 370,000 EVs in North America since 2016, with 300,000 of those in the U.S. Tesla remains far ahead, with over 5 million units sold globally since 2008.Ford argues it's still the “No. 2 best-selling EV brand,” claiming GM's figures count all brands together, altering the comparison. From Reddit polls to repeat diners, IKEA's food offerings are beloved, with many customers visiting the store just for the food which is why IKEA's first stand-alone restaurant next to its Hammersmith store in London marks a fresh chapter for the brand, leveraging its famous Swedish Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake that shook parts of West Texas and apparently centered near Ackerly on Monday night was also felt in other parts of the state. The seismic activity occurred around 7:49 p.m., according to the Midland bureau office of the National Weather Service. There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage from the quake; in other news,  a man facing a murder charge in Kaufman County led police on a pursuit through Richardson and Dallas on Monday before he fatally shot himself. A front passenger was hospitalized after being shot multiple times, and three children — ages 5, 15 and 17 — were in the backseat at the time of the chase and shooting; Americans are divided over whether it's more important to protect gun rights or regulate gun ownership. A Pew Research Center survey found a slight majority of 51% favored protecting the right to own guns over enacting gun restrictions. Pew said its research indicates about 4-in-10 U.S. adults live in a household with a gun. And gun ownership rates vary based on certain factors like political affiliation; and for four nights, the annual Plano hot air balloon festival will “light up the sky” at Oak Point Park and Red Tail Pavilion.
