This week we bring you a Studio Trigger Spotlight! It is their 10-year anniversary this year and they've got a bunch of stuff going on at conventions around the country, project announcements, and live drawings, so we thought we'd also celebrate here on OHC! And of course, it gives Dan an excuse to gush about how much he loves Trigger. So we thought we'd compare and contrast some of Trigger's high-octane action shows like Promare and Kill la Kill to some of their softer-moe shows like Space Patrol Luluco and Little Witch Academia. Across the year, we have looked closely at each arc in the Attack On Titan anime (on the most part). But how exactly did Attack On Titan begin? After thinking about this question, I thought it would only be right to look at the first arc of the anime, The Fall Of Shiganshina. This arc contains the episodes which work as the foundation for this monumental narrative concerning oppression, freedom and history. In this episode, I talk about the themes of fear & confidence, the notion of 'society-building', how we are introduced to the 'AOT aesthetic' and more. On the side waffle on about my experience with Space Patrol Luluco. Disclaimer: This episode was not intended to match the Spooktober theme (but it is actually very fitting). Happy Halloween! What's good? News- -Berserk is getting another video game in the style of a Dynasty Warriors spinoff -Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, and One Piece are all being transformed into attractions at Universal Studios Japan. The attractions will open on July 1st and stick around until September 4th . -Crunchyroll is going to Simulcast ReLIFE, an anime about a 27 year old NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) who is given a drug which makes him look younger in order to be sent back to High School. -New episodes of Inferno Cop could come in the future! A twitter user who avidly posts about the studio Trigger replied to user @nm2325 who asked “yo, is trigger gonna release the inferno cop new episodes? Crossover with LWA and the other one” to which @Trigger_Tattun explained “Sounds like we will release new episodes of Inferno Cop in the future. Not sure if it'll be another cross over though.” Swords- Sword Art Online- (A-1 Pictures- Erased, Your Lie in April, Anohana) Elucidator is Kirito's primary weapon in Sword Art Online. This sword is a demonic monster drop from a boss on the 50th Floor that Kirito wields along with Dark Repulser. Dark Repulsor was a one-handed long sword, created by Lisbeth for Kirito out of a Crystallite Ingot, which was obtained from a special quest. Whenever Kirito used the Dual Blades skill, he wielded it alongside Elucidator. This weapon was destroyed during the fight with Kayaba Akihiko on the 75th Floor. Wind Fleuret is a rapier that was Asuna’s primary weapon in Sword Art Online, on the lower floors of Aincrad. It was a monster drop, obtained after following Kirito's battle advice, and replaced her store- bought Iron Rapier. Samurai Champloo- (Manglobe- Ergo Proxy, Deadman Wonderland, Gangsta) Kill La Kill! (Trigger- Little Witch Academia, Space Patrol Luluco, Inferno Cop, Kiznaiver) Satsuki is a master swordsman who wields the Bakuzan, a black-bladed katana in a white sheath with an edge that is claimed to be keener than Ryūko's Scissor Blade. Its strength is so great that one slash is enough to damage a transformed Kamui (clothes made entirely of life fibers). While durable enough to clash with Ryūko's Scissor Blade on their multiple battles, the Bakuzan was eventually broken when clashing against Ragyō's fist. The shards are eventually reforged into Bakuzan Gako and Bakuzan Kōryu, a long blade and short blade respectively. Their effect is the same as the twin Scissor Blades, being capable of damaging Life Fibers beyond their regenerative powers. Satsuki's skill with these blades is extensive and adaptable, as she has gone toe-to- toe against various other sword wielding opponents. Durarara! (Brain's Base- Natsume's Book of Friends 4, Baccano!) Saika also known by some characters in the series as "the Slasher", is a demonic blade notable for its obsessive love of humanity and its ability to possess humans by cutting them and causing them pain. It is currently in the possession of Anri Sonohara. Saika is an ancient, powerful entity that manifests itself as a cursed Japanese sword. It has an extreme love for humanity, and, like how humans might express their love by hugging or kissing, Saika expresses its love by cutting and possessing people. Its ultimate goal is to take over all of humanity. Saika lives within the body of its owner and communicates its thoughts through a voice in their head. It is always talking about how it loves humans, how it wants to cut them, and even tells its owner what it wants them to do. The constant nature of this voice is enough to drive most normal people insane, slowly taking them over and turning them into crazed slaves. When under Saika's influence, a person's eyes glow red, often with a crazed, wide-eyed look. It is also possible that humans get a boost to their strength and fighting abilities when possessed.
