TICKING CLOCK reveals the many sides of famed news personalities such as Mike Wallace, Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Ed Bradley, Bob Simon, Katie Couric, Steve Kroft, Chris Wallace, Sam Donaldson, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo, Byron Pitts, Charlie Rose, and scores more. In his career the author broke some of the most important stories of the past 30 years, including revelations on Congress, the CIA, and corporate malfeasance. His expose of the opioid epidemic won more awards than any series in the 52-year history of 60 Minutes. But Rosen's great success and wonderful stories aren't reserved for just his time at 60 Minutes. With his star ascending, he was lured away from CBS by ABC and their dream of a competitor to 60. At ABC's upstart Primetime Live, he served as a senior producer and quickly made his mark through the use of hidden cameras. As stunning as the rise of that shows was, its fall was even more precipitous. For the first time, Rosen reveals the inside account of how things fell apart at Primetime Live. Intimate, untold, and often eye-opening stories of his decades in TV News, Ira Rosen has written a book rolling in one amazing story after another. Just when the reader thinks they've read the most incredible insider account of just how a famous news story really came about, simply turn the page, and another even more amazing awaits.

In our last episode of this series, we learned how passage of the Ensuring Patient Access and Effective Drug Enforcement Act took away the DEA’s most effective diversion control enforcement tool, the immediate suspension order. The bill was shaped in large part by a former DEA lawyer. On this episode, you’ll hear more stories about Congressman and high ranking government agency officials who have played key roles in deciding the fate of drug bills and policies; and weeks later went to work in the pharmaceutical industry. 24 years ago, the medical director for the FDA played a key role in approving OxyContin without clinical trials and shortly thereafter, left to go to work for Purdue Pharma. In this podcast you’ll hear a clip from “The Sentence that Helped Set Off the Opioid Crisis” a podcast by Caitlin Esch and Krissy Clark in their “Uncertain Marketplace” series that frames a key reason why OxyContin was approved by the FDA and the people involved in that decision. Back in 2007, a member of Congress led an all-night effort to pass legislation that prohibits the government from negotiating lower Medicare drug prices. Today we’ll play a “60 Minutes” piece by Steve Kroft from 2007, that reveals what happened after the bill was passed and why, in our country an EpiPen costs $608 and in Britain, where they can negotiate drug prices with the manufacturers, it costs just $70. The Congressman who led passage of that bill became a leading lobbyist for the Pharmaceutical Industry after its passage. Today in the final part of our 4-part series with Mr. Joe Rannazzisi, he shares his reaction when his department was asked to be more like the FDA. As we pick up our discussion, Mr. Rannazzisi talks about the shakeup in leadership that led to his departure from the DEA. Join us on this podcast, the final episode in our 4 part series, for more candid conversation with the former head of the Department of Diversion Control for the DEA, Mr. Joseph Rannazzisi.

Save your Retirement with Pat Strubbe

This show is about the #1 retirement savings vehicle – the 401(k). Major news outlets have widely criticized the 401-K - and with good reason. Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes stated “… the shortcomings of this retirement system have jeopardized the financial security of tens of millions of people.” The Wall Street Journal calls the 401(k) a “colossal failure.” Forbes calls it a “retirement savings crisis,” and a “failed experiment.” The Huffington Post goes as far as calling the 401(k) a “ticking time bomb!”

Twenty two years ago a relatively unknown Governor of Arkansas was on the ropes in his presidential campaign.  He had been accused of marital infidelity and with his wife by his side, went  on 60 Minutes to plead his case to the American people.  His wife, was even less known to the American people, so her comments in that interview with Steve Kroft, had particular resonance.Today, that woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton, has served eight years as First Lady, as a United States Senator from New York, in the seat once held by Bobby Kennedy and for four years as Secretary of State.  She came just a few cracks in the glass ceiling short of the Democratic presidential nomination. It’s a remarkable story, by any political standard. Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes tell the story of Hillary from the 2008 campaign forward, in their new book HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton. My conversation with Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes:
