Steve Montgomery of Lamppost Farm is our guest on today's podcast, coming to you from a stop on the Devon Congress pre-tour - Columbiana, Ohio style this time. Steve and his family raise Devon Cattle, Coopworth Sheep, pigs, turkeys and a partridge in a pear tree (okay, no partridges, but there are more chickens than you can safely count). Their goal is to make and teach connections between living things, but the annual flock of Lamppost interns can tell you that they learn how to do the sweaty part on the farm as well. These are just plain good solid people who open up their hearts and farm to those in need, wanting to make a difference. As the Narnia bunch would tell you, when life gets rough, it's always lovely to have someone who's willing to leave the lamppost burning so others can find their way home. C.S. Lewis would be proud. I had planned on putting out some positive videos about TBI or CTE currently being free on Amazon KU but I slid into a dark place after looking at some sad stories in a brain trauma group I belong to. For those that want to check out the book you can do so here: https://geni.us/TBIorCTE This week Try Not to Die: In Brightside is also free on Amazon KU: https://geni.us/BrightMT Part of the reason I had a rough day was lack of sleep and cannabis. Thanks to COVID my lungs are garbage and I'm struggling with jiu jitsu. Still trained 6 days this week though and am hitting a seminar and belting ceremony tomorrow. No idea if I'll be receiving my brown belt but it'll be fine either way. The jiu jitsu has been essential to help keep me positive and an hour-long breathing session on Tuesday helped tremendously. I'm excited to be getting in lots of merchandise this week and I had a fantastic talk with Steve Montgomery about two of his books being turned into Doomed to Die books. Going to be extra brutal. I'm excited about my friends Mareike and Micha visiting from Germany and will be spending the day catching up.

It has been a very long, but very productive week. I've been: Mailing off books to contest winners. Talking with Steve Montgomery about finishing and releasing TNTD: Super High this year. A reminder that Ain't No Messiah is currently free on Kindle and the audiobook is only $2.99 through 4/30. https://geni.us/MessiahAllFormats Includes the first 2 chapters of Ain't No Messiah narrated by Ric Chetter.
Mike Waldmann was Swim Talk's VERY FIRST podcast guest in the summer of 2020, and returns for a second visit to share the events and circumstances surrounding his boys team capturing the VERY FIRST Texas UIL 4A-under STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! We also reminisce and reflect on the recent passing of yet another dear friend, great coach, and Texas coaching legend, Steve Montgomery, affectionately known to all as "Dr. Steve." His importance and distinguished life and career cannot be overstated. He was ... terrific.
Steve Montgomery has come a long way since taking up wheelchair racing just over a year ago. Despite being in his 50s, Steve has clocked a sub-18 minute parkrun and competed alongside the elite athletes at this year's London Marathon. But Steve's first sporting love is wheelchair rugby. He is a member of the successful Northampton Saints Wheelchair Rugby team which won this year's WR5s Premiership and Midlands Development League competitions, and came second in the first ever version of the sport's European Cup - The Poland Cup. The side's captain is Gerry McCrory, an amputee who can walk normally using a prosthetic leg but uses a wheelchair to play rugby. Running Tales spoke to Steve and Gerry about wheelchair sport, how accessible it is, and being 'different ability' rather than disabled athletes... ---------------------------------- If you like this episode please consider donating to help us keep going: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/stepforward The music in this podcast is: "Fearless First" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

It was a very productive writing week and I'm about to put the finishing touches on Try Not to Die: In the Wild West. Also had a great meeting with Steve Montgomery about his TNTD: Super High. Sage Ricci, the mastermind behind TNTD: In the Wizard's Tower is designing a new Try Not to Die shirt. Looking forward to hitting the Knotfest concert tonight with my family. I share a very embarrassing road rage incident I had earlier this week. All the talk of TBI and CTE only makes it that much more difficult to stand by and watch countless kids sustain unnecessary damage playing contact sports before 14. The repeated blows to the head and the concussions can change the trajectory of your child's life, and all because they wanted to play a sport. Please look at the research that has been done and take your emotions out of the decision. Ask yourself is this sport safe for my kid? Includes the short story "Mutual Understanding" taken from Somber Stroll and narrated by Tee Quillin.
After a two-year wait, I'm finally headed to see Rammstein tonight at the L.A. Colliseum. I'm a huge fan of their music and have been played the hell out of them as part of my passive German learning. This concert, and Knotfest in two weeks, should be great in helping me beef up and improve Try Not to Die: At Dethfest. I'm excited that I'm looking at about 6 book releases over the next 12 months. One of the ones I'm really excited about is Super High which Steve Montgomery and I just ressurected. I just went over the main path and loved how fast-paced and exciting it is. I had a great time doing an in-person yoga class at Child's Pose studio in LA with Lauren Eckstrom from Inner Dimensions. She's such an incredible instructor and that practice helped set my mind for the rest of this positive and productive week. Volleyball season is nearly over for my daughter and she's already set her sights on wrestling. She'd like to start getting stronger and training for it which is awesome. This is motivating me to get into better shape so I can train with her. Includes the short story "Ultimate Wish" off of Somber Stroll and narrated by Tee Quillin.

In today’s episode of Live UNREAL, we’re joined by a panel of top producing agents from around the country. During the Live UNREAL summit earlier this year, Laura Gillott, Brad Kiger, Jolynne Mercieca, Steve Montgomery, and Ellie McIntire sat down to talk about their successes. These are agents and leaders who are on the ground right now, so their insights are extremely valuable! These top agents will share what it takes to grow and run a successful real estate organization with the market pressures we’re facing today, and let you in on some of the unique strategies they’re using to provide value. We discussed: What we can do to make sure technology doesn’t get in the way of the client relationship How to break into a new market How to make clients comfortable with a showing agent without feeling like they’re being handed off to an assistant Agent-to-agent referrals and creating a farming system around agents The power of adding value to the community Quotes We can train anyone to sell real estate, but the giving heart and going the extra mile is hard to train. -Laura Gillott I’m never going to ask anyone in my organization to do anything I’m not willing to do myself. -Brad Kiger You give your clients a certain level of respect and they should be giving that back. If you’re not getting that respect, that’s not someone you should be working with. -Jolynne Mercieca Create a farm for the agents who refer you and the agents you want to be in business with, and market to them consistently. -Steve Montgomery Hybrid farming has been an incredible way to get more listings. -Ellie McIntire Key Points Our clients are bombarded by technology and we need to be ahead of that. If we provide enough value and become the go-to agent for people in our database, we can build a moat around them, and create a scenario where their response to anyone else is “sorry I have an agent.” One of the greatest mistakes real estate team leaders are making today is trying to convince their agents to do things they’ve never done. No amount of motivation and telling people what to do will take the place of them seeing us do something first. The showing agent model reduces your net commission on each transaction, but we earn more from it in the long-term. When you build a team around you and delegate, you’re able to do more, and be in more places at once, which gives us freedom and balance. If we build a system for creating relationships with agents, we can create a reliable stream of referrals. We can apply the way we farm in neighborhoods to fellow agents, by marketing to them consistently and becoming known as the go-to agent in a specific market. Laura Gillott - creating a customer experience that clients can feel Brad Kiger - breaking into a new market and taking market share Jolynne Mercieca - achieving balance when you work with buyers Steve Montgomery - agent to agent referrals Ellie McIntire - adding value to the community at a high level

A quick update on the writing classes I've been doing on Facebook Live. My daughter's class at 12:30 (PST) is focusing on creating a short story and developing Try Not to Die: In 25 Perfect Days from scratch. My son's writing class has been cancelled and is now Cuddle Class where I film us just cuddling on the class. Might not be exciting to watch but I'm enjoying it. The Try Not to Die universe is expanding like crazy. Excited to be working with Steve Montgomery on Try Not to Die: Super High. We are only in the beginning stage but I'm positive it will be awesome. The construction industry is moving at a pace never before seen, and with that, there is so much data available that we're realizing that time and attendance is a crucial piece that can save significant administrative time... and reduce errors. Steve Montgomery from BuildingPoint Northeast joins us to explore the topic of access control, and time management.
Without parameters and a good process, customization adds a lot of variables and complexity. But if you manage that customization, and adapt it properly, you can actually simplify your processes and workflows. In this episode of Foundations, we’re joined by Steve Montgomery of BuildingPoint NE, to build on our conversation in Episode 3 covering custom reporting.
In today's world, we’ve become accustomed to the idea of instant gratification, and expecting things to just plug in and work. But that expectation hits some snags when it comes to the realities of construction. Often times, the stakes are too high, and the schedules too compressed, to realistically expect to learn something from scratch all by yourself. But, you don’t have to go it alone. In this episode of Foundations, we’re joined by Steve Montgomery of BuildingPoint Northeast, and Robert Beck of BuildingPoint West to tackle this subject and discuss the importance of leveraging local and on-site support partnerships.

With the amount of traffic on the modern jobsite, controlling who is on site at any given time is an enormous but necessary undertaking. But what exactly does “intelligent access control” mean? It could mean ensuring only workers who have completed the orientation and the safety training are allowed on the site. It could also mean having a detailed understanding of who is on the site at any given time. It could even mean controlling who is allowed on a restricted jobsite. All of these aspects of access control can be achieved through effective workforce management, ensuring a safe and productive environment. In this episode, we talk with Steve Montgomery and Rochelle Wintz to discuss the benefits of intelligent access control and workforce management and how contractors can use it to understand and report on workforce trends, compliance requirements and manage site access.
