This week on the pod we are so excited to be interviewing Haley Epstein! Haley is a junior in college and a firm advocate for mental health awareness. For the last few years, she has done a variety of speaking engagements entitled "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" where she shares her experience with mental health and the importance of starting the conversation. She is also the founder of the "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" Movement and has gained a strong following on social media for her braveness in opening up about her story and the tools she has learned along the way. We really enjoyed interviewing Haley and hearing more about how she got involved in the field. We also talk about how important it is to speak up against the stigma surrounding mental health and how parents can support their children in that process. Finally, Haley shares some of her own strategies in how she works through some of her own challenges. We hope you enjoy listening to this episode and got a lot out of the conversation! Be sure to check out Haley's talk and continue to follow her to see what else she is up to! This year has been a time for deep reflection, societal shifts, and hard conversations. Between being quarantined at home for months and our society experiencing an awakening of racial disparities, to say it’s a strange time would be an understatement. While major events in the world might seem out of our control, we each hold so much power in our ability to create meaning, engage in important conversations, and spark change around us. On today’s show, Anne Stevenson is back to share her perspective on navigating relationships through difficult seasons, the power of empathy, and how we can all learn more—and in turn, do better. You’re going to hear about maintaining bonds when under pressure, the importance of self-care, and why having a willingness to learn is at the root of real change. Anne is sharing tips on strengthening relationships, growing through difficulties, and what it takes to be a true ally. Enjoy! In this episode you’ll discover: How our relationship dynamic was forced to change in early 2020. What we can learn from our collective experience in quarantine. Why Anne’s perspective on homeschooling recently evolved. How to handle stress in relationships during this unique time. The importance of creating yearly goals. Why now is an opportunity to up-level and strengthen your connections. The role that self-care plays in activism. Why we all need to examine our own biases. How education and a willingness to learn can help our society heal. The pervasive problem with deflecting serious issues. How compassion empathy can create change. Why we’re in the midst of a rising of consciousness. The three types of empathy. What Black people really need from white allies. Why studying is at the foundation of a well-rounded belief. In this episode of the Dudes n Beer podcast host Christopher Jordan welcomes returning guest, owner of Central Texas Guns Works and host of Come and Talk It on Austin’s own 1370am, Michael Cargill back to the show to discuss the mad dash to the stores and hoarding by people amid the Corona virus pandemic panic and what the impact has been to local businesses and beyond. When the Covid-19 virus finally hit upon American shores the panic was soon to follow. Store shelves across the country were emptied within hours and we were left in the grip of a dilemma. What to do about critical necessities and where to get them? Meanwhile businesses within multiple states began shutting down as they were deemed “non-essential” to infrastructure in the current battle against the Covid-19 crisis. That is until Michael Cargill stepped forward and fought for his right for his store, Central Texas Guns Works and stores like it to be deemed essential. Join the Dudes n Beer podcast as we once again welcome owner of Central Texas Guns Works and host of Come and Talk It on Austin’s own 1370am, Michael Cargill to discuss the state of small business during this ever evolving health scare and how we can better prepare ourselves for those who may be purchasing firearms without prior training. In this episode of the Dudes n Beer podcast host Christopher Jordan welcomes returning guest owner of Central Texas Guns Works and host of Come and Talk It on Austin’s own 1370am, Michael Cargill to discuss suing the government and when to take a stand. What if you woke up one morning and found something so awry with the law that you just couldn’t take it anymore? What if you found yourself surrounded by spurious laws being passed without actual due process under the guise of something else entirely? This is the case everyday if you begin to look deep enough. The question is how can you, the average citizen begin to do something about it? That’s where Michael Cargill found himself not too long ago. What is it like to file a lawsuit against the government? In this episode of the Dudes n Beer podcast host Christopher Jordan discusses the deadly dangers of no knock warrants and police corruption. To further the discussion we welcome back to the show owner of Central Texas Guns Works and host of Come and Talk It on Austin’s own 1370am, Michael Cargill as well as special guest and attorney JL Carpenter of the JL Carpenter Law Firm. With the recent upheaval in the city of Houston, TX after the serving of a “No Knock Warrant” by police led to the shooting of a couple, the debate on the issue involving warrants of this type has gone viral. But after the dust settles a much grimmer picture surfaces. One of police who lied in order to obtain the warrant. Evidence listed on the warrant that was never found in the home. And what appears to be a grave miscarriage of not only justice but stated and understood police procedure. While issues like this continue to pop up all over the country how can we, the public legally protect and defend ourselves? What are our rights with our own home as law abiding citizens? What has the Houston District Attorney done to further investigate this travesty? Is this truly a case of the following proper procedure gone wrong or is there a systematic problem with the process of police serving no knock warrants? Join the Dudes and Beer podcast as we delve into the issues inherent with no knock warrants in America as well as the continued problems of police corruption and dereliction of duty with special guests JL Carpenter of the JL Carpenter Law Firm and Michael Cargill, owner of Central Texas Gun Works and host of Come and Talk It. What is it that keeps the Austin Police department mired in Corruption? From rape cases years old that cannot be solved due to improper evidence storage. Officer involved shootings and even police that are involved with crimes themselves. Why is it that the capitol of the great State of Texas cannot keep its police department in line? Does the war on the media really start at the top? Is it only on a national basis that these issues are happening? Why are local news and radio stations beginning to tie the hands of reporters, hosts and journalists to prevent them from sharing their opinions on air and in print? What is it like to be on the front lines of the ongoing media machine in the United States? How do we begin to bring a feeling of trust and comfort to the average American listener and viewer?
