In a conversation with host Bibi Raii, Tiwa didn't shy away from addressing the hierarchy of talent in the game. When asked about her place among the “Big 3”—Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy—Tiwa responded with confidence, “Don't get me started! If we are to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I am the Big 1.”
To the lighting designer Lindsey Adelman, light is at once ubiquitous and precious, quotidian yet miraculous; it can be easily overlooked or taken for granted, but it also has the potential to become transformative or even otherworldly. Through her craft-forward approach, Adelman creates pieces that defy strict labels and explore the tensions between organic and industrial forms and materials, combining hand-blown glass with industrial and machine-milled components. Since launching her eponymous company in 2006, she has built a formidable business, perhaps becoming best known for her Branching Bubble chandeliers, a series that consists of glass “bubbles” elegantly mounted on the ends of brass, bronze, or nickel “branches.” Adelman also runs an experimental space called LaLAB as a means of exploring and meditating on illumination through the creation of one-off and limited-edition pieces, as well as private commissions. On the episode, she discusses her recent decision to shift her company away from a large-scale production operation and toward a smaller, more intimate “studio” model; the great surprise of having one of her designs installed in Vice President Kamala Harris's Washington, D.C., home; and her love of hosting.Special thanks to our Season 10 presenting sponsor, L'École, School of Jewelry Arts.Show notes:Lindsey Adelman[6:05] Ingo Maurer[6:05] Gaetano Pesce[7:55] Burst Chandelier[12:22] “A Realm of Light”[14:55] Isamu Noguchi's Akari light sculptures[17:20] Yosemite National Park[18:41] James Turrell[18:41] House of Light[20:47] Noguchi's “Lunar Infant”[24:40] Writings by Agnes Martin[26:52] Hiroshi Sugimoto[27:46] David Lynch[29:08] “Paul McCarthy: WS”[29:08] Matthew Barney[30:54] Haruki Murakami[33:14] “A Cacao Ceremony That Brought Close Friends Even Closer”[48:13] Branching Bubble chandelier[48:13] Buckminster Fuller[52:01] Adelman's open-source D.I.Y. light project[52:30] David Weeks[52:30] Lunette[52:46] “The Lighting Designer From Everyone's Dream Brooklyn Brownstone”[52:46] Rich People Problems[52:46] Gwyneth Paltrow

Intimacy, particularly with oneself, is a profound journey that can be both deeply rewarding and challenging to navigate, especially for those with past traumas. Today, I have Rachel Rae Halder, a multi-faceted somatic practitioner and life-long spiritual student. Together, we unravel the complexities of healing, breaking free from patterns, and embracing intimacy in its many forms. In this podcast episode, Rachel Rae Halder takes us through: -Importance of intimacy, particularly in relation to self-acceptance and personal growth. -The mystical side of Christianity and her experience of the interconnectedness of religion and spirituality. -How she helps leaders, teachers, and healers break free from limiting patterns that hinder their growth and fulfillment. -Her upbringing, experience with sexual abuse, and her profound spiritual awakening. -How her approach to healing combines cognitive understanding, spiritual practices, and somatic therapies to facilitate deep transformation and self-acceptance. -The power of self-acceptance: moving away from the cycle of needing to fix. -The value of seeking to understand healing on different levels. And so much more! Rachel (she/her), commonly known as Rae, currently lives in the Sangre de Cristo mountains in New Mexico, the original home of the Tiwa known presently as Taos. She is a writer, thought leader, coach, and guide in the trauma, somatic, and embodiment fields. She loves working with coaches, healers and leaders who've done all “the work” and yet still sense there are unseen life-degenerating and syndromal freeze patterns dictating their reality. Rae is a seasoned practitioner, certified in over 10 different healing modalities, with a decade of experience with some of the most advanced trainings around trauma resolution, sexual liberation, and collective healing under her belt. She has a unique, mystical, and energetic approach to trauma healing + pleasure and a deep-rooted sense of the dark feminine path (a path of being and accepting, as opposed to a mental knowing and rejection). Her work goes far beyond the typical somatic experiencing principles and enters into the nature and energetic or mystical realms of the unseen. In 2020, while the U.S. was dealing with the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, Nigeria erupted in a nationwide protest movement of its own. On today's podcast, Alexandra speaks with Eve Bradford, an incredible poet, witch, and deep spiritual practitioner.Eve Bradford is an educator, artist and oracular practitioner working at the intersections of art, activism, medicine and magic to create work that is an uncompromising call into authentic aliveness and embodied belonging.Eve has been producing events, curating content, facilitating community ceremony, creating ritual theater & film and generally contributing to the evolution of underground culture for the last 20 years. With Isis Indriya, she is the co-founder of Living Village Culture and The Compass at Lightning in a Bottle, as well as a collaborator and teacher with the Academy of Oracle Arts. She has toured by sailboat creating traveling feasts of story, song and food through the Gulf Islands with the Sea to Seed Tour, invoked the humanizing and healing power of story and food with the Feasting the Enemy dinner series, and been a part-time whore with the Poetry Brothel. She was a founding member of Reclaim the Streets NYC, dedicated to undermining the privatization of public space and community gardens through unpermitted celebrations in the streets and subways. She graduated from the Gallatin Division of NYU with an independently designed BA in Art Making and Cultural Process, and from California College of the Arts with an MFA in Creative Writing. After a series of profound life-changing events in 2017, Eve began training intensively and is now a senior teacher and staff member within the Mogadao practice tradition of mythosomatic qigong, depth sexuality, and Post-Daoist philosophy. She is also a core player in SACRA Immanence Theater, a troupe dedicated to theater as the apotheosis of sacred embodiment, radical creativity and queer ontology.Eve currently stewards a small acequia-fed homestead and heritage orchard on the lands of the Tiwa and Pueblo People in what is now often referred to as Northern New Mexico. She offers drop-in classes, retreat immersions and private sessions that call upon the full capacity of our integrated personal ecology in service of full-spectrum health, liberated embodiment, radical expression and deeply rooted ecstasy. In this episode, you'll hear:Eve's definition of depth, and how depth or surface is neither good or bad, but that they simply hold opposite ends of the spectrum of our reality.Ideas and discussion on the soul and how the soul is not separate from our erotic essence, but rather at the core of it.How the villainazation of sexual energy is crucial to capitalism and the patriarchy thriving, and how reclaiming our power is key to not continuing to unconsciously feed the systems we currently exist in.The distinction between desire and craving - and how desire is the voice of the soul and craving is wanting something that is not necessarily good for us and could be coming from a trauma response or other sources, rather than the soul. The difference between circumstantial and constitutional emotion, and how practice can help us change our constitutional emotional patterns. And more!Explore all of Eve's offerings here.Grab your ticket for the Ecology of Eros: Practice for the Apocolypse workshop and event here.Book your own Jing Reclamation private session here.Grab your copy of Instructions to a Young Magician (From Herself) here.Follow Eve on Instagram here.Buy Alexandra's book, F*ck Like A Goddess, here.
Today I am joined by international speaker, confidence coach and founder of Confident and Killing It, Tiwalola Ogunlesi. Tiwa moved to the UK from Nigeria aged 15 and began to struggle with low self-esteem issues throughout her teenage years. After graduating from university she felt immense pressure to live up to the expectations she'd set for herself, get a job and become a quote on quote ‘Adult'. She finally accepted a job at an engineering firm in Oxford, despite having no real interest in the company, or the job, and so as a year or more went by Tiwa found herself slowly suffocating in the boredom and monotony of living a life she felt incredibly uninspired by. It was around this time that Tiwa decided to start volunteering at a local church and become a youth leader; there she met various girls aged 15-17 and realised from speaking to them on a regular basis that there was a major confidence crisis in yet another generation of girls growing up in the world thinking they weren't good enough. Tiwa started making videos on instagram about the subject matter and 2 years later she was working full-time on her own business, Confident and Killing It, the self-love revolution to wake women up to their worth and dare to live the life they truly desire... Since then, Tiwa has equipped over 3000 women in London, Lagos, New York and Johannesburg at The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls with the tools and knowledge they need to be confident. She has been interviewed by the likes of Jameela Jamil, spoken at UN women's conference, recently signed a book deal with Harper Collins and worked her ass off to ensure that the next generation of women we raise are ready to look themselves in the eye and say those three words which we all seemingly struggle with so much; I love myself. You can pre-order Tiwa's book 'Confident & Killing It' HEREOur favourite Millennial Minesweeper quote this week was: "Perhaps imagination is not where we go to escape reality, but where we go to remember it" - Glennon Doyle
Imagine love as a rope that ties people to one another. It can bend, shift and grow as we do. But what happens when the rope is torn? Do we sear the frayed edges in hate or do we repair the damage with forgiveness? Why must I love my neighbor, when hate is easier? Why must I show mercy when grudges hold more satisfaction? Why must I be the first to extend my hand when in the past I have been bitten? -Monologue by Hannah Mcintyre ( Co-Host of Graced with Questions) In Season 2 EP 1, we are excited to be back with 5 new ( Phebe, Deena, Emma, Hannah, and Tiwa) co-hosts in addition to Grace and Josh to unveil the difficult truths behind the heart. We are pursuing matters of the heart in this season, and we know it might get difficult for all of us but hang on. We are starting the season off with a series on "Why We Love". Grace is joined by Phebe on the first episode. We are excited to also add additional resources on the website ( gracedwithquestions.com) for more information. You are seen, loved, and worth it. Let's get this journey started!

Embodiment for the Rest of Us Trailer: Season 1 Embodiment for the Rest of Us premieres August 2021! Meet your hosts, Chavonne McClay (she/her) and Jenn Jackson (she/her), and learn what EFTROU will be all about. Music: “Wheel of Karma” by Jason Shaw The captions for this episode can be found at: https://embodimentfortherestofus.com/season-1/season-1-trailer/#captions Captions [Music Plays] Chavonne (C): Hi, I'm Chavonne McClay. Jenn (J): And I'm Jenn Jackson. C: And this is Embodiment For The Rest of Us! Yay! J: [squeals] C: I'm so excited. [laughs] J: We are. C: I am a Black, fat woman and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2010 and I'm really, really excited about this podcast. I have a private mental health practice called Unabridged Counseling and Coaching, LLC, and I live in Albuquerque, NM, on occupied Tiwa territory with my family, my husband and two kids. I--my clinical work focuses on healing relationships with food and your body and yourself as well as parental mental health. I--in all the work that I do, I make sure to center and hold space for those living in marginalized bodies and in marginalized spaces. J: And I'm Jennifer “Jenn” Jackson. Call me Jenni, call me Jenn Jenn, call me anything you like, umm, this is just what I usually go by. I'm a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor in Albuquerque, NM, on occupied Tiwa territory. I'm a provider in a white, fat body with ADHD and I have lived experience with diabetes as an adult. These connections that I've just mentioned inform my practice, Jenni K Nutrition LLC. Umm, and all the services that are offered, that I offer, are anti-oppressive, which includes, but is not limited to, anti-racist, fat positive, Health At Every Size®-aligned, queer-affirming, non-diet, nutritionally agnostic and food neutral, sex-positive, trauma-sensitive, from a neurodiversity approach, and both justice- and liberation-driven. C: “Embodiment for the Rest of Us” is the name of this podcast, as we said before. We'd like to define what those two ideas mean to us. So, “embodiment” is the validation of the experience of every individual both within themselves and within the world. When we talk about “the rest of us", we are talking about those living in larger bodies and in marginalized spaces or are likewise blocked from defining their own existence. J: Ooh, that's good. And where can you find this podcast, “Embodiment For The Rest Of Us”? And that would be anywhere, everywhere, wherever you find your podcasts. C: And our podcast will be ready for listening in late summer 2021 in August, which is really exciting! J: [gasps] So exciting! C: Yes! J: It's June right now as we're recording this, so that's not far off. C: Yes. J: And we're about to start interviewing really soon and we are really excited. C: Mm-hmm. Yes! J: So why this topic, this podcast? We both listen to a lot of podcasts and we love really specific conversations about really similar topic happening sometimes on other podcasts, and what we're looking for is a discussion where this is happening all the time. So here we are making a podcast that's by us, but also for us. C: Yeah, kind of a one-stop shop. J: Having the conversations we want to have. Umm, and we're really excited! We're going to say we're excited a lot. And we also are really excited. C: So much. We are. [laughs] Umm, how will this podcast progress? So, We will be interviewing professionals and those with lived experiences about these intersecting topics. It is also very important to us that this is an interaction with you, the listener! We are excited to be in active conversation with you, as we learn and unlearn. J: Oh, and we cannot wait to be in conversation with you in August 2021!
